Nigerians Lead Suppliers Of Cocaine To Drug Abusers In Hyderabad - Indian Police

Quote:Nigerians Are Leading Suppliers Of Cocaine To Drug Abusers In Hyderabad, Indian Police Claim

Nigerians have emerged as the leading suppliers of cocaine to drug abusers in Hyderabad, enforcement officials in Indians have said.

Hyderabad is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana.

According to officials, all Nigerian suppliers operate from Bengaluru and Mumbai.

"They keep shuffling between the two cities not to get identified," said an excise official.

This year alone, 235 gm of cocaine had been seized in the city, which had led to the arrest of 12 peddlers, a report by TimesOfIndia noted.

Enforcement agencies have identified Emmanuel Ummudu alias Imma, James, Devine Ebuka, Suzu alias Ebuka, Ugochukwu Cheema, Good Luck and Ben, alias Banard, MTN, as the kingpins behind the supply of cocaine into the city.

In the two recent seizures, the arrested accused had confessed that they were provided with the drug by Ebuka, Ben and Ummudu.

"These Nigerians have multiple cases registered against them in the city.

"They were arrested a few times before and are out on bail. To avoid imprisonment, they started using associates to supply the drug here," assistant excise superintendent, N Anji Reddy, said.

While Ebuka and his brother, Cheema Good Luck, have been into cocaine peddling, excise officials said Ben is more enterprising as he also operates an escort service from Uganda.

Ummudu married a Mumbai-based bank employee, Leela Shivakumar. Cyberabad police arrested the couple in 2018. A fellow Nigerian, Bongani Lucky, is supplying the drug to his associates in Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Since it is difficult to zero in on suppliers who use SIM cards of Ivory Coast and operate through WhatsApp in other states, law enforcement agencies are apprehending carriers who enter the city to deliver cocaine.

Edo girl, 9, rots away and dies after being' raped for rituals' by a 60-year-old chief who is now on the run

A 9-year-old girl has tragically died after her body began to rot following a "ritualistic rape" incident.

Habiba was allegedly raped by a 60-year-old chief in Edo state. According to Priscilla Usiobaifo, the founder of Brave Hearts Initiative, the chief confessed to the crime and begged for forgiveness but he fled the community when he discovered that the girl's parents were bent on getting justice.

Habiba, who was raped on June 11, 2020, soon began rotting away. It began with her suffering seizures hours after the rape incident. Then she became unwell and her health continued to deteriorate, causing people to suggest that she had been raped for rituals.

Last week, rashes appeared on Habiba's skin and her skin started peeling.

She died last Saturday, August 29, while she was being transferred to a more advanced hospital where she was expected to get better care.

Ms Usiobaifo revealed that Habiba had become so deformed before her death that it was "extremely difficult" to recognize her.

The mother of the deceased is inconsolable and the suspect is still free. Police at the Igarra division in Akoko-Edo, Edo state, have reportedly made repeated attempts to capture the chief, all to no avail.

Ondo Elections: Native Doctor Fortifying Eyitayo Jegede's Billboard - VIDEO
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-05-2020, 02:36 PM - No Replies

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZrmh6d2_-M

Quote:A video making rounds online shows a native doctor (Babalawo) making some incantations on a billboard erected for the PDP Governorship candidate of the upcoming elections in the state; Eyitayo Jegede. The aim of the native doctor was to prevent vandals from destroying the billboard.

Earlier, the campaign organisation of Eyitayo Jegede has alleged that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is preventing him from displaying his posters and billboards.

Mr Jegede is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is considered the main challenger to Mr Akeredolu who is seeking reelection on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Thursday, the organisation, through its spokesperson, Samuel Fasua, accused the governor of “muzzling political opponents in the state, by preventing them from erecting campaign billboards.”
READ ALSO: Ondo Deputy-Governor: Nine lawmakers dump impeachment plan, back Ajayi

Mr Fasua said the development reeked of abuse of power and flagrant disobedience to extant laws granting political parties equal rights to relevant public utilities.

“Quite shockingly, the governor who is a senior advocate and one who should be passionate on the need to uphold the rule of law, looks away as the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA) stands the law on the head,” he said.

“The agency has consistently rebuffed applications by opposition parties, most especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to mount billboards of their respective governorship candidates.

“One particular approach to perpetrating this subterfuge by the OSSAA, has been the deliberate hiking of their charges on signage permit to a ridiculously high level, all aimed at checkmating opposition parties.

“Besides, the agency has been withholding the signage licence to any advertising agency with application to mount billboards of the PDP governorship candidate, Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), without any justification for its action.

“Whereas, it keeps giving express approval to the mounting of Akeredolu’s ‘Aketi’ billboards, in any location whatsoever; and from feelers, such approvals are often granted free of charge.”

Mr Fasua called on Mr Akeredolu to call officials of OSSAA to order, noting that only the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is empowered by law to regulate the activities of political parties, and not the OSSAA.

He, however, said Mr Jegede’s supporters had been calm in the face of mounting hostilities.

But the state’s Commissioner for Information, Donald Ojogo, refuted the allegation, advising the PDP to focus on its campaign and stop looking for excuses for its imminent failure.

“We urge the PDP to face its self-imposed challenges and work assiduously for the election if only to register yet another presence on the ballot,” said Mr Ojogo.

“We doubt if they even have billboards to erect in view of the daily depletion the party has suffered lately.

“It is better for them to withdraw from the race rather than scouting for straws.”

However, the spokesperson for the Deputy Governor, Tope Okeowo, told PREMIUM TIMES that the Zenith Labour Party candidate, Agboola Ajayi, was yet to witness such frustration from the agency.

“For now, nobody has stopped us from erecting billboards or posters anywhere,” Mr Okeowo said.

“Maybe because he is still the deputy governor and he still enjoys his immunity. Otherwise, we have not experienced that kind of thing, at least for now.”

Texas Woman Suffers Burns As Hand Sanitiser Explodes As She Lights Candle

Quote:WARNING - GRAPHIC IMAGES: Mum-of-three Kate Wise suffered second and third degree burns all over her body, including her entire face, her hands, and even her legs and feet

A mum has suffered horrific burns all over her body after a bottle of hand sanitiser caught fire and exploded while she was lighting a candle.

Kate Wise, from Austin, Texas, said she put some sanitiser on her hands on Sunday before trying to light a candle at her home in the suburb of Round Rock.

Kate put her three children in bed to watch a movie before using some hand sanitiser; shortly after, she went to light something and her arm caught fire in a "bomb-like explosion".

The incident left her with second and third degree burns all over her body, including her entire face, her hands, and even her legs and feet.

Two of her daughters ran to the neighbour to call the emergency services.

Despite being on fire, the mum-of-three carried her 14-year-old disabled daughter and her dog out of the house.

The woman is currently in intensive care in Austin and needs major reconstructive surgery.

In the incident, which left her kids traumatised, their home was damaged too and they lost all their possessions.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Kate said: "Because of the hand sanitiser, it just lit my whole ... everywhere I had hand sanitiser on my hand, it just lit my hand with fire.

"It’s something that you never want your kids to see." After being released from hospital, the mum will need to find a new home for the family.

Kate now wants to raise awareness about what happened to her in order to prevent others from getting hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Round Rock Fire Department, KHOU reported.

TUC, 79 Others Plan Protestss Strike Over Fuel, Electricity Price Hikes
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-05-2020, 08:18 AM - Replies (1)

Quote:The Trade Union Congress and 79 other civil society organisations and labour unions under the aegis of the Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond codenamed ASCAB, are set to hold nationwide protests and strike action next week over the increment of the fuel price and electricity tariff.

It was learnt that the Nigeria Labour Congress, which is part of ASCAB, was still holding a meeting as of Friday evening to determine its next line of action.

Apart from NLC and TUC, some other affiliate members of ASCAB include: United Action for Democracy, Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, Journalists for Democratic Rights, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Services Technical and Recreational Services Employees, Civil Liberties Organisation (Bayelsa), and COPEAIDS Foundation, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, among many others.
Confirming the development to one of our correspondents on the telephone on Friday, Human Rights Lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), said it was evil of the government to increase the prices of essential commodities during a pandemic.

He said while other countries were making life easier for their citizens through tax cuts and palliatives, the Nigerian government was doing the exact opposite.

The activist said, “There is going to be a general strike and protest. We will fix a date after a meeting this evening. ASCAB is meeting today (Friday) with TUC leadership and about 79 others have indicated that they will take part in the national day of action against these anti-people developments. It will be next week but the date has not been picked yet.

“Other nations are giving cash to their citizens, cancelling rents but Nigeria is imposing taxes and all other levies on its citizens. We will fight against it.”

Falana said the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company, which announced the fuel price increase, had no power to do so.

He also faulted claims by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, that there was nothing the government could do to intervene in the new petrol price

The senior advocate said Section 6 of the Petroleum Act gives the Minister of Petroleum the powers to determine the price of petroleum products and this had been affirmed by the courts.

Falana said, “The PPMC has no powers under the law to fix fuel price. Section 6 of the Petroleum Act makes it clear that it is the minister that can determine the price of petroleum products and the courts have affirmed this.”

Meanwhile, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria says the recent hike in fuel price was not caused by the global price of crude oil but a deliberate devaluation of the naira by the Federal Government.

The President of PENGASSAN, Festus Osifo, said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme which was monitored by one of our correspondents on Friday.

Sylva had stated that the recent rise in fuel price was caused by the increase in global crude oil prices.

He said, “What are the drivers of the pump price? The driver of the pump price is the currency exchange. What has necessitated this today is not actually because of the fact that the product pricing is increasing internationally. The crude oil price relatively in the last six months has been hovering between $40 and $45 per barrel

But what has necessitated this is actually the devaluation. Today, we observe that in the last three months, we have had a 25 per cent devaluation of our currency. The government did it deliberately to have more money.

“They now have more money having done the devaluation and are now passing the burden to us because petroleum is not refined in Nigeria but abroad and everything is priced in dollars. The cost of crude oil, labour cost and all other costs that go into it are priced in dollars.

“So, by the time you bring it to Nigeria and ask us to pay in naira which has been devalued, by the time you factor in the 25 per cent devaluation of the naira, you will have to pay more.”

The PENGASSAN boss further stated that the landing cost which had increased was solely determined by the Federal Government and was paid in naira; hence it ought not to have been reviewed upwards.

“For us, this is not the best time. If as a government you have devalued your currency and you are making 25 per cent excess on top of your currency, which is fine, (then) you have more money to pay workers and meet your naira need, it is fine.

But again, you are telling us that the landing cost has increased in naira. Not necessarily in dollars, and you are also passing that unto the majority of the Nigerian citizens; I think this is double jeopardy and all stakeholders need to engage with the government,” Osifo said.

Jonathan’s subsidy removal better than Buhari’s – PENGASSAN

The PENGASSAN president said the fuel price hike executed by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was worse than that of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan had in January 2012 removed fuel subsidy which caused nationwide protests, especially in Lagos where thousands of people took to the streets to express their displeasure.

Responding to a question on Friday, however, the PENGASSAN President said removing the subsidy in 2012 was actually a better decision because it would have had less effect on the people.

He said increasing fuel price in 2020 in the middle of the global COVID-19 pandemic and a worsening economy would exacerbate the suffering of Nigerians.

Osifo said, “I think the timing today is even more problematic compared to 2012 because we are battling a pandemic. I can tell you that for a lot of households, their income has diminished; a lot of businesses have been shut down since March.

“I can tell you that today, Nigerians are facing hardship. I believe that 2012 was a bit better than it is today because the pandemic has ravaged the average household in Nigeria. You have seen the recent figures from the National Bureau of Statistics. We are actually in negative Gross Domestic Product. By the next quarter, we could be in recession. This is not the right time to have done this.”

Osun rights’ group gives FG five-day ultimatum to reverse increment

Members of Coalition for Civil Societies in Osun State on Friday stormed streets in protest against the hike in electricity tariff and pump price.

They subsequently gave a five-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to reverse the increment or face mass street protests.

The protest, which started from Freedom Park, Osogbo around 8:30am, moved to Oke Fia area, and later terminated at Olaiya Junction, where the conveners spoke with journalists.

Members of the civil society groups, leadership of students’ movements in South-West, and some members of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, were joined by some artisans in the protest that lasted some hours.

As the protesters, accompanied by the men of the Department of State Services in mufti and policemen, moved through major streets in Osun State capital, traffic flow was disrupted, leading to gridlock.

The participants, who carried placards with the inscriptions such as “Buhari, enough is enough,” “PMB, people are hungry,” chanted anti-government slogans as they moved from street to street.

Speaking with Saturday PUNCH during the protest, one of the conveners, Waheed Saka, said Nigerians were experiencing untold hardship under the current regime.

He said, “We are here because Nigerians are angry. Buhari has betrayed the trust of Nigerians. We are here because Buhari has failed Nigerians.

“His decision is putting more pressure on the already pauperised Nigerians. We say no to increase in electricity tariff, we say no to incessant increase in pump price. We say no to the illegal Water Resources Bill that is before the National Assembly.”

Also speaking during the protest, Olatunji Ishola, the Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Nigerian Students, South West Zone, said the students rejected the hike in electricity tariff and pump price.

10 #RevolutionNow members arrested in Osun

Ten members of #RevolutionNow Movement were on Friday reportedly arrested in Iree, Osun State for distributing awareness fliers in the community.

One of those arrested, Omolola Pedro, gave the names of others as Owoeye Olaoluwa, Osungbaro Adeoti, Oguntola Sunday, Abraham Omowunmi, Akande Michael, Sunmbade Tunde, Akinbobola Jumoke Vivian, Luke Tega and Emmanuel Samuel.

Omolola also accused the police of brutalising one of those arrested, saying they were apprehended around 2:00pm in Iree but were later moved to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department at Osun State Command headquarters, Osogbo.

According to her, the group of ten member of #RevolutionNow Movement was in the town to sensitise the people to the need to speak against some policies of government.

Omolola said, “We addressed people in the market, telling them they needed to speak up against misgovernance. We also distributed fliers.”
Divisional Police Officer, Iree Division ordered our arrest and we were later moved to Osogbo where we were made to write statements at SCIID. Two of our members were assaulted for not wearing face masks but we were later released on bail around 7:00pm.

“Three people stood sureties for us. Olawale Bakare, Agbogunlori Michael, who is NANS Chairman, Osun Axis, and Akinyemi Morakinyo were our sureties. Our lawyer, Mr. Alfred Adegoke, later secured our release on bail. We were told to come back next Tuesday. Our banner was confiscated.”

Also confirming the development, Adegoke said all the 10 persons arrested had been released.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer for Osun Command, Yemisi Opalola, said she had not be briefed.

Don’t take Nigerians for granted, northern groups warn Buhari

The Coalition of Northern Groups has warned Buhari against taking Nigerians for granted following the government’s announcement of the recent hikes in electricity tariff and fuel price.

The CNGs demanded the immediate and unconditional reversal of the multiple increments or risk mass resistance.

The group said it was in touch with other regional groups such as Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and PANDEF to ground activities in the country.

They described the government’s action as insensitive and unjustifiable in the face of sundry challenges in the country, warning that its demand must not be taken lightly.

They called on Nigerians to brace for mass resistance against the Buhari-led government, saying that Buhari had yet to learn lessons after being booted out as head of state for something similar in 1985 by the military.

The mass resistance, the group said, was the first phase of its planned protest against the Buhari- led government. The second phase, according to the CNGs, was to force Buhari to resign from office.

These were the positions of the northern group at a press conference in Kaduna on Friday.

CNG’s spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, anchored the press conference titled: ‘Our stand on the rise on cost of essential services and survival in Nigeria’.

While directing all its branches across the region to brace in case the government failed to heed their calls, Suleiman said the hikes in electricity tariff and pump price of fuel were a recipe for anarchy.

“We have reached out to all segments of society. We have liaised with Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, PANDEF, except the Indigenous People of Biafra for necessary action,” he said.

Suleiman added, “Despite the administration’s claims of fighting a war against corruption, the entrenchment of mediocrity has left the country worse than it was five years ago in the global corruption perception index.

“The present administration had been tolerated for too long even with its level of impunity in the dispatch of goods and services which gravely endanger the peace, unity and development of the country.”

Meanwhile, Benue State Chairman of the NLC, Godwin Anya, who condemned the hikes in both fuel pump price and electricity tariff, said that the present administration was inflicting pains on the masses.

He said, “The hikes in electricity tariff and fuel pump price are to make the masses suffer; this government has consistently inflicted pains on the ordinary citizens.”

NURTW, NGO condemn fuel, electricity tariff increments

The Executive Director, Community Outreach for Development and Welfare Advocacy, Mr Taiwo Otitolaye, has urged the Federal Government to reverse the current increment in the price of petrol and electricity.

Otitolaye said the hikes were condemnable, adding that the Federal Government was dancing to the dictate of the International Monetary Fund to deregulate the economy of Nigeria.

He said, “The price increase in fuel and electricity is meant to cause hardship for ordinary Nigerians who are already impoverished. The price increase will affect everyone including those in the rural areas.”

Kwara State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Ariwoola, while condemning the increase in fuel price, said it would cause hardship for the people.

Ariwoola lamented that those in the transportation business had yet to get out of the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, before the government added “insult to injury of transport workers by increasing the pump price of fuel.”

He said that the government had previously assured the transport workers that it would reduce the fuel price, adding that the reverse is now the case.

Government should immediately reverse the price of fuel if it does not want the transport workers to jerk up the transport fare. If the government insists on going with this policy, we in the transport business will have no alternative but to increase the transport fare for the passengers,” he said. ,,

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SATURDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER.

STAY TRUE TO THE GOSPEL

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair (2 Corinthians 4:8).

The Christianity that we have today didn’t come to us on a platter of gold. If you read about Christian martyrs, you’d find that many were killed, beheaded, for their testimony of Christ. On one occasion, over six thousand men were slaughtered for their faith in Jesus Christ, and they were soldiers.

They believed the Gospel with all their hearts, and nothing was going to stop them from transferring to the next generation the same faith that they had received.

All the years that you’ve probably had liberty to worship the Lord, to praise Him in the church, attend crusades and participate in life-transforming meetings, that liberty came through the deep struggle, prayers, sweat, tears, blood, faith, determination and passion of other men and women who staked their lives on the Gospel.

They weren’t only persecuted, many were buried alive. Some were sawn in two; violently killed, for their faith in Jesus Christ.

Persecution of Christians is still happening in several countries today. Some countries have concentration camps where Christians are subjected to harsh and heinous treatments for their faith in Jesus. A very recent report officially shows that Christians are the most persecuted group in the world.

I’m bringing this to you so you understand that the faith of Jesus Christ that we have, the message of Christ that we’ve believed, is worth everything. In spite of the persecution, those before us maintained their faith and stayed true to the Gospel. It should and must be the same in our day.

No matter what’s happening in your city or nation, stay true to Christ. Don’t vacillate. As read in our theme verse, we don’t give up; we don’t quit. Preach the Word in and out of season. Nothing should be terrifying or intimidating enough to keep you quiet, for greater is He that’s in you than all the adversaries and adversities in the world. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

Irrespective of the tribulation, distress, persecution or peril in this world, I’m more than a conqueror through Him that loved me—Christ Jesus, my Lord! I’m persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor anything, shall separate me from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus.

I remain steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of spreading the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

I affirm that my mind is attuned to God’s frequency! My spirit is aglow with the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ; the light of the knowledge of God’s glory shines perpetually in my heart.

I know my divine origin; I am from Zion, the city of the living God. I am an associate of the God-kind, with the totality of divinity tabernacled in my spirit and uniquely expressed through me today.

Therefore, I refuse to be subject to the principles
of this world’s system. I am heavenly; I am seated with Christ in the place of authority! Hallelujah.

My spirit is enlightened; I have understanding and knowledge of my victory in Christ Jesus over satan and the powers of darkness.

I live to serve the Lord, free from fear of the devil and the wickedness in this world! Today, I go out knowing that no evil shall befall me and I am delivered from wicked and unreasonable men.

I belong in God’s superior class of divine beings; thus, I look beyond the natural realm of existence to my heavenly rights, blessings, and provisions in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!

I recognize today and take hold of my divine right to live in health, prosperity, victory, success, dominion, and excellence!

I reign and rule over circumstances and exercise dominion over satan. Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

God bless you

Sanwo-Olu Suspends Bamidele Balogun For Imposing 5% Levy On Digital Platforms
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has suspended the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board, Bamidele Balogun, for imposing a five per cent tax on digital platforms including Netflix and Iroko TV.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, said this in a statement on Friday night titled, ‘Lagos State Has No 5% Levy on Audio and Visual Contents of Physical and Digital Platforms’

Omotosho, who is the Spokesman for the state government, said Balogun acted without authorisation and was therefore suspended.

The statement read in part, “There is no levy on audio and visual contents of all physical and digital platforms in Lagos State. The Executive Secretary, Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board, Mr. Bamidele Balogun, is said to have announced a five per cent levy.

“The government hereby dissociates itself from the said announcement in the media. The Executive Secretary, who was not authorised to make such an announcement, has been suspended, pending an administrative enquiry.”

He said the Sanwo-Olu administration is not insensitive to the fact that the industry has been badly hit by the effects of the COVID -19 pandemic and empathises with this and other sectors of the economy.

A Federal High Court had barred the LSFVCB from levying film and video producers.

Justice Chuka Obiozor of a Federal High Court had in a judgment in June 2020 stated that the LSFVCB could not be collecting taxes at the same time as the National Film and Video Censors Board as it amounted to double taxation.

Despite the judgment, however, Baalogun had written letters to several digital platforms including Netflix and Iroko TV demanding five per cent.

A letter, which was addressed to the Managing Director of Iroko TV, Jason Njoku, stated that the firm must pay five per cent on all visual and audio content.

The letter dated August 31, 2020, read in part, “We hereby request for immediate payment of the five per cent levy on all audio and visual content produced, sold, distributed, marketed, exhibited, streamed, downloaded and shared across all physical and digital platform situate, lying and being within Lagos State.”

When contacted on the telephone, Balogun said he could not speak on the matter.

The Executive Secretary of the NFVCB, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, had described the new levy of the state government as wrong and inimical to the growth of the sector.

“There is an existing court judgment on that matter. The move is wrong and I will be meeting with representatives of the state soon to look into the issue,” he said.

The Audio Visual Rights Society of Nigeria had also lambasted the Lagos State Government for going ahead with the levy despite a court judgment.

The President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, Mr. Pretty Okafor, described the new levy by the state government as illegal and wicked, adding that it would be challenged again in court.

Petrol May Cost More In South-east - IPMAN
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 09-04-2020, 11:19 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Enugu depot, has warned that petrol may cost more in the South-East.

It said this is because the Federal Government failed to reactivate the Emene depot.

The Chairman of Enugu depot of the association, Mr Chinedu Anyaso, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Awka on Friday.

Anyaso said that petrol might be sold for N170 in the South-East because of the cost of delivering the products at the stations in the zone.

Anyaso said that the depot had been lying moribund since 2005.

He was reacting to the increase in the pump price of petrol and the challenges faced by marketers in the zone.

He said the depot was strategic to the national economy, adding that it was serving Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, parts of Imo, Abia, Cross River and North-Central, including Benue State.

The IPMAN chief described the cost of transporting products from Lagos, Warri, Benin, Calabar and other locations as huge.

According to him, marketers do not get their equalisation fund as and when due.

He said that marketers in the zone were incurring huge losses due to incessant road crashes and spill involving their trucks as a result of the poor state of the roads.

“We want to use this opportunity to renew our appeal to the federal government to repair the Emene depot in Enugu so that our members can start loading products from here.

“This depot has been shut down for over 15 years due to what they called pipeline vandalism.

“Our members are suffering and the people of the South-East and other areas that source products from the depot are suffering.

“For instance, the ex-depot price has been increased to N151.56, we will have to pay additional N14 for transportation and other expenses per litre depending on where we loaded before it is discharged in our stations.

“That will not be the case, if the product is pumped to the depot in Enugu and lifted from there, it will be much cheaper for us and enable us to sell between N160 and N162 per litre.

“We are ready to work with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on the security of pipelines. And fixing the Enugu Depot will also help a better-deregulated sector, which the federal government is pursuing,” Anyaso said.

He called on members of the association in the zone to continue to provide quality services to the people to the best of their ability.

A 21-year-old student has accused her dad of domestic violence towards her mum and she shared photos of her mother with the injuries inflicted on her.

Gloria Ezeobi, a student of pharmacy at LUTH, said her parents have been married for 22 years and her father, Sunday Vincent Ezeobi, has allegedly been "brutally beating" her mother, Maureen Ezeobi, for all of those years.

She claimed that her father's apprentice also beats her mum in front of her dad. She said the alleged domestic violence from her dad has caused her mother to have miscarriage twice.

She added that her mother recently gathered courage and reported to the police but they did nothing.

Gloria claimed her father also abuses her and her sister and that he once stripped her naked and flogged her with a fan belt before sending her out of the house late at night.

She said her father also regularly locks her mother out of the house, causing her to sleep in the streets for days.

The student said her father has boasted that nothing can be done to him.

"My money will get me anything in Nigeria so no one can save you," she claims her father told them.

Petrol price hike: God told me Nigeria will break up – Primate Ayodele

The leader of INRI Evangelical spiritual church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has reacted to the recent increment in electricity tariffs and fuel price in Nigeria by the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The federal government had a few days ago hiked the fuel pump price of petrol to N151.6 per litre, a piece of news that was greeted with widespread reflection.

Ayodele, however, said the development marked a confirmation of one of his prophecies in 2015 during the release of his annual book of prophecy titled ‘Warning to the nations’.

He frowned at the government for making policies that will not make life better for Nigerians, noting that the government is in a confused state, hence, difficult for it to know what to do.

He further prophesied that Nigeria could break up and warned citizens to brace up for more crises.

While berating the performance of the government in security and employment, he lamented that the dollar may soon likely exchange for N500.

“Nigeria has just started to suffer, this government has nothing to offer, they don’t know what to do, they don’t have direction, we are not talking about that alone, we are talking about security, the government of Buhari is not interested in making lives better for the citizens, how long do we continue to manage this?

“The Lord spoke to me that Nigeria will break, international debt is nothing to write home about, the rate of unemployment is high, Nigeria will still go into recession no matter what, the people in charge of the economy are confused, this is the fulfilment of my prophecy.

“I said in 2015 that Nigeria will still buy petrol at 150 if care isn’t taken, the dollar will jack up to 500 naira, some governors will not be able to pay the N30,000 minimum wage.

“Nigeria needs prayers, the crisis has not started, as from next year, there will be a water shortage, famine, food scarcity.’

Three burnt to death in Lagos -Ibadan expressway auto crash

on
 September 4, 2020

Three persons were on Friday burnt to death in an accident involving a pick-up van around Danco filling station on the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway.

Mr. Ahmed Umar, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta.

According to Umar, the crash occurred around 4:37pm and was caused by excessive speeding and loss of control by the pickup van driver.

He said that the pickup van with no registration number was on top speed, when it lost control, hit a truck in its front and immediately burst into flame.

The sector commander explained that five persons, all males were involved in the accident, with one person sustaining injuries and three others burnt to death.
“One vehicle was involved; a pick-up van with no registration number on it.

”The suspected cause of the lone crash is excessive speeding which led to loss of control and the van hit a truck in his front and immediately went into flame,” NAN quoted him as saying.

The FRSC boss added that the injured victim had been taken to Idera Hospital in Sagamu for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at the mortuary.

Buhari gets five days ultimatum to reverse fuel price, electricity tariff

The Coalition of Civil Societies, Osun State and National Associational of Nigerian Students (NANS), have given the Federal Government of Nigeria five days ultimatum to reverse the petrol pump price and electricity tariff.

The protesters in Osogbo, the state capital of Osun on Friday, demanded the government to reverse the pump price to its original N130 and also reverse other anti-human taxes and tariffs increase.

Recall that the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, had earlier announced an increment in the pump price of petrol to N151.56 per litre.

The chairman of Osun Civil Societies Coalition, OCSC, Comrade Waheed Lawal, who led the protest, lamented that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari has failed Nigerians over unfulfilled promises he made during the electioneering process.

According to him, “Nigeria belongs to all and the masses voted for President Muhammadu Buhari because of the promises he made during his campaign, but Buhari has failed Nigerians.”
They, however, give the President Buhari five days ultimatum to reverse electricity tariff and petrol pump price or see a riot of the masses.

Heartbreaking video of Black man, Daniel Prude's death shows how cops put hood on him during an arrest until he suffocated

A video showing the moment a Black man, Daniel Prude, was killed during an arrest in the United States, has sparked outrage after it was shared online.

Daniel Prude, 41,  died of asphyxiation after a group of police officers put a hood over his head, then pressed his face into the pavement for two minutes, according to video and records released Wednesday, September 2, by the man’s family.

Daniel Prude died March 30 after he was taken off life support, seven days after the encounter with police in Rochester that left him brain dead. His death received no public attention until Wednesday September 2, when his family held a news conference and released police body camera video and written reports they obtained through a public records request.

“I placed a phone call for my brother to get help. Not for my brother to get lynched,” Prude’s brother, Joe Prude, said at a news conference. “How did you see him and not directly say, ‘The man is defenseless, buck naked on the ground. He’s cuffed up already. Come on.’ How many more brothers gotta die for society to understand that this needs to stop?”

The tragedy began when Daniel Prude, who was coming from Chicago, arrived in Rochester for a visit with his brother. He was kicked off the train before it got to Rochester, in Depew, “due to his unruly behavior,” according to an internal affairs investigator’s report.

Rochester police officers took Prude into custody for a mental health evaluation around 7 p.m. on March 22 for suicidal thoughts — about eight hours before the encounter that led to his death. But his brother said he was only at the hospital for a few hours, according to the reports.

Police responded again after Joe Prude called 911 at about 3 a.m. to report that his brother had left his house. Daniel Prude had run naked through the streets of a western New York city.

Police responded and the videos released on Wednesday by the Prude family show what transpired then.

The videos show Prude, who had taken off his clothes, complying when police ask him to get on the ground and put his hands behind his back. Prude is agitated and shouting as he sits on the pavement in handcuffs for a few moments as a light snow falls. “Give me your gun, I need it,” he shouts.

Then, they put a white “spit hood” over his head.

One officer said that they put the hood on Prude because he was spitting continuously in the direction of officers and they were concerned about coronavirus.

Prude demands they remove the hood but they do not listen to him.

Then the officers slam Prude’s head into the street. One officer, who is white, holds his head down against the pavement with both hands, saying “calm down” and “stop spitting.” Another officer places a knee on his back.

“Trying to kill me!” Prude says, his voice becoming muffled and anguished under the hood.

“OK, stop. I need it. I need it,” the prone man begs before his shouts turn to whimpers and grunts.

The officers appear to become concerned after he stops moving, falls silent and they notice water coming out of Prude’s mouth.

“My man. You puking?” one says.

One officer notes that he’s been out, naked, in the street for some time. Another remarks, “He feels pretty cold."

The officers then remove the hood and his handcuffs and medics can then be seen performing CPR before he’s loaded into an ambulance.

Spit hoods have been scrutinized as a factor in the deaths of several prisoners in the U.S. and other countries in recent years.

A medical examiner concluded that Prude’s death was a homicide caused by “complications of asphyxia in the setting of physical restraint.” The report lists excited delirium and acute intoxication by phencyclidine, or PCP, as contributing factors.

The city halted its investigation into Prude’s death when state Attorney General Letitia James’ office began its own investigation in April. Under New York law, deaths of unarmed people in police custody are often turned over to the attorney general’s office, rather than handled by local officials.

Letitia James said Wednesday that investigation is continuing.

Activists demanded that officers involved be prosecuted on murder charges and that they be removed from the department while the investigation proceeds.

Daughter of Daniel Prude, Tashyra Prude spoke following her father's death. She called for officers involved to face murder charges.

Deadly jihadist attack Cameroon village hosting displaced people, kills 7

Seven civilians were killed on Tuesday, September 1, after a suicide bomber attacked a village housing displaced people in Cameroon's northern tip bordering Nigeria, the United Nations and a police official said.

The police officer said the bombing followed a Boko Haram raid on a village, adding: “The people fled and a young man strapped with explosives chased them and blew himself up.”

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees said it “firmly condemns this attack which killed seven civilians and wounded 14 others in Kouyape village.

“The suicide bomb attack took place near Kolofata, close to the border with Nigeria, where some 18,000 internally displaced people have sought safety over the past seven years,” the refugee agency said.

The jihadist group first launched its insurgency in Nigeria in 2009, before extending its deadly operations to neighbouring Cameroon, Niger, and Chad.

The group has killed more than 30,000 people, forcing three million to flee their homes, according to the UN.

“We are horrified by these senseless attacks on people who have been torn from their villages, fleeing violence perpetrated by armed gangs which rage in the region, only to be stripped of safety again after they just found refuge elsewhere,” said Olivier Guillaume Beer, UNHCR Representative in Cameroon.

“The killing of innocent civilians has to stop,” he said. “We call on armed groups to respect the rights and lives of civilian populations.”

The attack comes a month after 18 people died and 15 were injured by an armed group on the Nguetchewe IDP site. Two young suicide bombers were involved in the attacks, according to officials.

Further Petrol Price Hike Likely, Marketers Warn Nigerians
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-04-2020, 02:27 PM - No Replies

Quote:Fuel marketers across the country adjusted their pump prices on Thursday to between N158 and N162 per litre of petrol, saying a further increase in global crude oil prices would push the pump price of petrol higher.

Petrol prices have increased for three straight months, rising from N121.50–N123.50 per litre in June to N140.80-N143.80 in July, N148-N150 in August and N158-N162 in September.

The Petroleum Products Marketing Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had, on Wednesday, increased the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) to N151.56 per litre from N138.62 per litre but later reduced it to N147.67.

The ex-depot price is the price at which the product is sold to marketers at the depots.

When the collapse of global crude oil prices triggered the reduction of the pump price of petrol from N145 per litre to N125 in March, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency said it would advise the NNPC and oil marketing companies on the monthly “guiding retail price” at which the product shall be sold across the country.

The Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, in a statement on May 15, said deregulation was approved on March 19 this year.

“But as you all know, PMS and other petroleum products are very strategic commodities, so you cannot allow the prices of these commodities to be determined wholly by the marketers,” he added.

In June, the Executive Secretary, PPPRA, Abdulkadir Saidu, said, “For the avoidance of doubt, it is instructive to state that no private individual or group has the mandate to fix prices of petroleum products, however, the statutory regulatory body is saddled with the responsibility of advising guiding prices.”

But the PPPRA failed to issue any guiding prices in August and September and has remained silent since then, despite repeated calls and messages sent to the agency by one of our correspondents on the issue.

The spokesperson of the agency, Kimchi Apollo, however, told our correspondent on Thursday that he would get information on the development and revert. He had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

The National Operations Controller, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mr Mike Osatuyi, told one of our correspondents that the increase in petrol pump prices was a reflection of the global oil prices.

“In July, the crude oil price was around $43 per barrel. But rose to about $44-$45 in August. Last Monday, it increased to $46. If the crude oil price falls to $40, petrol prices will come down. But if it goes up to $50, we should be expecting petrol price to rise to about N163 per litre if the exchange rate remains the same,” he said.

Osatuyi stressed the need for government to create a level playing field by allowing marketers to also have access to foreign exchange at the official rate like the NNPC to enable them to import products.

The Chairman, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mr Adetunji Oyebanji, said earlier on Thursday that pump prices would have to be adjusted to reflect realities of the increase of ex-depot prices by PPMC.

“However, the magnitude of the increase, timing and location is a decision left to each company. Consistent with global best practices, MOMAN does not dictate prices to its members as this would be anti-competition in a fully deregulated market.

“We welcome government’s action in allowing the market to determine prices, as we believe it will prevent the return of subsidies, while allowing operators the opportunity to recover their costs. This will, in the long run, encourage investment and create jobs,” he added.

But a groundswell of public opposition across the country have greeted the hike in petrol prices.

TUC says government action wicked, demands immediate reversal

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria condemned the increase in petrol price and electricity tariff in the country.

In a statement titled, ‘Killing the dead,’ and signed by its president, Quadri Olaleye, and Secretary-General, Musa-Lawal Ozigi, the TUC said, “Like the book by George Orwell, titled ‘1884’, the government and its agencies have resorted to doing the opposite of what they were set up to do.

“Government, instead of providing welfare, is killing the people systematically.”

It said increasing petrol prices and electricity tariffs, among others, “at a time people are losing jobs, businesses are not moving in the light of COVID-19, is, to say the least, wicked.”

The union said, “In droves, Nigerians flee the shores of this country. Just two days ago, we protested the hike in electricity tariff and sadly, yesterday, they slammed us with fuel [price] hike at a time countries like Ghana and Canada are giving out palliatives to cushion the effects of coronavirus pandemic. It is difficult to cope in this circumstance.

“Do we still wonder why unemployment and insecurity have increased? This is disgustingly shameful. We urge the government to listen to the voice of reason and reverse the [petrol] price immediately.

“Stop pushing Nigerians to the wall. This is too daring. The congress is calling a meeting of its organs to take decisions on this obnoxious move. The dead are dying again; stop killing the dead!”

Ojota Protest: I Will Not Join You To Protest, Nigerians Trust President Buhari

  Senators Protest Fuel, Electricity Hikes
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-04-2020, 09:44 AM - No Replies

Quote:There is tension in the camp of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, over increasing protests from lawmakers, following recent actions taken by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The fear, Daily Sun gathered, is borne of claims that some of the lawmakers drawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were plotting to convene an emergency sitting next week.

The emergency sitting, it was further gathered, is to provide an avenue for lawmakers to question the response of the leadership to recent hikes of electricity and petroleum products.

The Petroleum Pipeline and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporations (NNPC), had on Wednesday announced a new ex-depot price of N151.56k for petrol.

However, some filling stations owned by Independent marketers dispensed the product at between N162 and N164 per litre, depending on their location.

Lawmakers spearheading the move against Lawan are complaining that the inaction of the leadership was fueling a conspiracy against them.

“There’s this sentiment against lawmakers in our constituencies. They think that we are not doing enough and they’ve now labelled us stooges of Buhari. They call us rubber stamp and Lawan and other leaders of the Senate are not doing anything. Yet, Lawan wants us to approve everything sent to us by Buhari because they put him in office. We made a mistake by not insisting on having our own as president. We wanted to be loyal to our party, the APC. Today, we regret it,” a senator said in confidence.

Senate spokesman, Ajibola Basiru, in a chat with newsmen, said he was currently out of town and could not confirm if there were plans to convene an emergency sitting.

“President of the Senate called me a while ago. I’m not sure what he wanted to discuss with me. It may have been related to that. But I can’t tell. The Senate committee chairman on Rules and Business can confirm that,” he said.

As part of moves to further escalate the issue, the senator told Daily Sun that a world press conference was being planned. He said consultations were ongoing at the zonal caucuses about the protest which according to him, could be concluded by the weekend.

He said many senators were disappointed in the hurried manner the fuel price hike was done without consultation with the National Assembly.

Senate president had earlier this year claimed he waded into a planned hike in the electricity tariff. He had also claimed the development resulted in its postponement till the first quarter of 2021.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Obinna Ogba, said the increase in electricity tariff and fuel price at a time the economy was yet to recover from the deadly effects of COVID-19 showed government’s insensitivity.

“The country and indeed the whole world is facing serious problem right now because of the pandemic. Therefore, these increases are not good at all. It is adding salt to injury,” he said.

But Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun has defended Federal Government’s decision to hike petrol pump price and electricity tariff, saying the right amounts must be paid to attract investments to the sectors.

He told journalists after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari to present a publication on his first one year in office that Nigerians should be able to pay the slight increase since they will also enjoy lower prices when the prices of crude oil drop.

“First, you want to enjoy lower prices when the prices of crude are low and then not want to pay for a slight increase when there is an increase in price of crude.

“The price of crude is directly proportional to the price of refined products. So, I believe that is what is happening at the moment.”

On electricity tariff increase, he observed that there had not been an appropriate pricing, which had militated against the value chain of the power sector.

He said there was, therefore, the need make the electricity value chain profitable to attract investment and have enough electricity for transmission.

“In terms of the tariff increase in the electricity industry, again, we also have to decide what we want to do. We all complain that we are not generating enough electricity and we all complain about the fact that we don’t have the right infrastructure to transmit electricity, we complain about the fact that the distribution companies do not seem to be efficient. The problem is because, perhaps, the pricing is not right.

“If you want people to invest in production of gas, in gas floatation, which our turbines and our power plants rely on, we must ensure that the entire value chain is profitable. Because if one part of it is not profitable, that means there will be a short fall in one of the value chains, if we don’t have enough investment.

“So, if you don’t have enough investment in gas gathering, if we don’t have enough investment in gas transportation, we will not have enough gas supply to sustain the quantum of generation we require as a government or as a nation. And when we don’t have that, we don’t have enough that will be transmitted to our homes and the transmission grid, and then, we continue to complain. So, really the truth is that it’s a cache 22 situation.“

Nine-year-old girl dies after her mum applied pesticide on her lice-infested hair

A nine-year-old girl has lost her life after her mother applied a pesticide, Sniper, on her hair to kill lice in Rivers state.

Dr Gloria Nwosu,  a paediatrician at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, disclosed this to newsmen at a press conference on Thursday, September 3. She said the woman followed the advice of her hairdresser and put the pesticide on the hair of two of her daughters, aged nine and four, respectively.

Nwosu said after applying the harmful liquid, the nine-year-old girl convulsed for hours before she died and that the prompt effort of the doctors in the hospital helped save the life of the four-year-old.

Quote:“Their mother felt that the hairdresser would know what to do since it has to do with lice. We did everything we could to bring the child back to normal, but it was all abortive.

“She (the deceased) was very sick. The second child slumped in our presence and we immediately admitted her and gave her an antidote. So, the question now is how many of these children may have gone through this?

It affected her brain because she convulsed for over two hours. Now, there is something we do to check for oxygen saturation; it remained low. It never went back to normal. Then they can have something coming out from their mouth. This child kept pouring out saliva. It never went off until she passed on.

They also have high blood pressure. This child’s blood pressure was high. We saw all those symptoms on this child,” Nwosu said

The federal government has informed international travelers to obtain their COVID-19 results before flying in or out of Nigeria.

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, spoke on Thursday at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Abuja.

Sirika assured that all preparations have been completed.

He said passengers must register online, pay for COVID-19 test fee and upload the negative result not older than 72 hours before boarding.

The minister reiterated that airlines would be fined $3,500 per passenger without the result.
In addition, such a traveler will be turned back if he or she was a foreigner.

The government is acting on the principle of reciprocity, meaning planes from countries that banned flights from Nigeria will not enter the country.
International flights resume on September 5.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

 FRIDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER.

SEE YOURSELF THROUGH THE WORD

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit (Romans 8:1).

In our opening verse, the Spirit, through the Apostle Paul isn’t telling us that there’re two groups: those in Christ Jesus who walk in the flesh, and those in Christ Jesus who aren’t walking in the flesh. That’s not the essence of His communication; rather, He’s holding out a picture of who you really are.

When you study and understand the New Testament, you’d observe what’s called the “Mirror Principle”; God’s Word is a mirror. You’re what you see in the Word (2 Corinthians 3:18). Therefore, don’t read our theme verse and assume you’re not free from condemnation or that you’re still “walking in the flesh” because you err sometimes; no!

Read the 9th verse of the same chapter; it clarifies it by saying, “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you…” (Romans 8:9). That’s God talking! When He describes those in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit, He’s referring to you.

Therefore, see yourself through the Word. Now that you’re born again, there’s no condemnation for you. When you understand this and live accordingly, you’ll never again struggle with sinful habits, bad thoughts or works of the flesh.

The Bible says, “Sin shall not have dominion over you” (Romans 6:14); see yourself thus, for that’s how God sees you.

God knows that if you saw yourself the way He sees you, you’d act accordingly. Accept who He’s made you—His righteousness in Christ Jesus—and walk in that light. Glory to God!

CONFESSION

I’m a child of God, with the nature of God in my spirit. I’m justified before God, without guilt, fear, inferiority or condemnation. Sin has no power over me and I can’t be entangled by any yoke of bondage. I’m conscious of my nature of righteousness and walk accordingly. Glory to God!

Man faces life imprisonment after bodies of two women are found in his freezer

Man faces life after bodies of two women are found in his freezer

A man who killed two women and hid their bodies in a freezer has been convicted of murder.

Zahid Younis received a life sentence, with a minimum jail term of 38 years.

The remains of Henriett Szucs and Mihrican Mustafa were discovered at Zahid Younis's flat in Canning Town, east London, in April 2019.  He had subjected both victims to "very significant violence" in the days before he killed them, it was reported.

The body of one of the women, Henriett Szucs was hidden in the chest freezer for almost three years before it was found by police in the 36-year-old killer's flat in east London in April 2019.

Ms Szucs, 34, a Hungarian national, was last seen in August 2016 and is believed to have gone to live with Younis at his home in Canning Town.

The second victim, mother-of-three Mihrican Mustafa, 38, had not been seen or heard from since May 2018.

Ms Szucs and Ms Mustafa were "vulnerable women living somewhat chaotic lives", including periods of homelessness and drug addiction, the court heard.

Jurors were told Younis purchased the freezer shortly after killing Ms Szucs "for the sole purpose" of concealing her body.

Prosecutors at Southwark Crown Court said Younis preyed on the vulnerable women, subjecting them to "very significant violence".

The four-week trial heard police made the "grim discovery" when looking for the defendant at his home following a call about his welfare.

He was not in but officers gained entry and noticed the lockable freezer, around which flies were gathering.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding said the freezer had been forced open by one of the officers on "an old-fashioned police hunch" about what was inside it.

He said: "He broke open the freezer and discovered what could only be seen, at the time, as only one body.

"It actually took the freezer being taken away and X-rayed for it to be seen there was another body underneath that. It was a gruesome discovery for the officers."

The nature of the crime scene meant a cause of death could not be established, but the scientific evidence showed that the women had been subjected to serious violence before their deaths.

They had both suffered numerous rib fractures while Ms Szucs had sustained "dreadful" head injuries and Ms Mustafa's sternum and larynx had been fractured.

The court heard that Younis has several previous convictions for assaulting partners.

Younis, known as "Boxer", denied murder but did admit putting the women in the freezer, pleading guilty to two counts of preventing the lawful and decent burial of a body.

He claimed he was out when Ms Szucs died at his flat and did not tell police because he was "panicking".

Jurors deliberated for over 16 hours before returning majority verdicts.

As Nigeria plans for the resumption of international flights on Saturday September 5, September 5, the Federal Government has barred some airlines from operating in Nigeria.

Speaking at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Thursday, September 3, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said the international airlines denied flying approval include Air France, KLM, Etihad, Rwandair, Lufthansa, TAAG Angola Airlines and others.

According to Sirika, the airlines that have been given licence to operate include Middle-East, British Airways, Delta Airlines, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Egyptair, Air Peace, Virgin Atlantic, Asky, Africa World Airways (AWA), Air Cote-d’Ivoire, Kenya Airways, Emirate, and Turkish airlines.

Quote:It is important that we announce the airlines that are allowed for operations into the country. The ones not approved are Air France. Middle East Airlines is approved for only Lagos (airport). British Airways (is) approved – allowed entry under Covid-19 protocol.

The reason for Air France is that tourists business holders are not allowed entry. KLM not approved for the same reason as Air France. Delta Airlines, no restrictions – USA, we have an Open Skies with them and they also allow us in.

Qatar Airways are allowed and approved under Covid-19 protocol. Etihad, not approved. Ethiopian Airlines allowed entry under Covid-19 protocol. Egyptair approved, allowed entry under Covid-19 protocol.

Rwandair not approved. Air Peace, not applicable, they are our own carrier in Nigeria, we thank them. Virgin Atlantic, approved, allowed entry under Covid-19 protocol. Air Namibia, not approved. Asky, approved. Royal Air Maroc, not approved. African World Airways, Ghana, approved.

Air Cote d’Ivoire, approved. Lufthansa, not approved. Kenya Airways approved. Emirates Airlines, approved. Turkish Airlines, approved. Cabo Verde not applicable as international flights are not resumed. Angolan TAG, not approved. South African Airways not applicable as international flights are yet to resume.” he said

The Minister also announced that passengers who undergo COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests more than four days before their departure date will not be allowed to enter the country. According to him, all COVID-19 tests must have been done within 72 hours before the departure date.

Quote:“All intending travellers to Nigeria must have tested negative for COVID-19 by PCR in country of departure before boarding. This has not changed,” he said.

The PCR test must be within four days before departure and we prefer 72 hours pre-boarding and note that in certain countries, the PCR test will only be accepted from identified laboratories.
Tests done more than four days before departure are not valid.

This is very important. And persons will not be allowed to board; but for the 72-hours minimum, this is advisory and will not preclude boarding.” he said
The international airspace was shut in March as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Two officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were caught on camera fighting passengers in a vehicle going from Ikeja to Obalende.

The LASTMA officials with badge name E. A. Fagbuyi and N. Oladega accosted the bus driver at Toll Gate (7up) bus-stop, along Berger road in the Lagos metropolis. They accused him of boycotting them since last week and demanded money for the supposed ‘offense’.

The bus conductor told a Premium Times correspondent in the vehicle that they were seeking N100 bribe, and things took a different turn after Fagbuyi took charge of the vehicle and began heading to an unknown location.

It was gathered that after the passengers protested, the heated argument which ensued degenerated into a physical combat. During the fight, Mr Oladega assaulted one of the passengers identified as Sandra and also broke her phone screen.

The officials allegedly threatened to harm the lady for demanding that her phone be repaired. Sandra told the Premium Times reporter at the scene;

Quote:“I have been molested and I can’t take it. I was receiving when one of the officials came to drag my phone and threw it on the floor. He broke the screen already. These guys are thugs and should not be accommodated in Lagos."

We are doing everything in our power to bring down the prices of food items across the country- President Buhari

President Buhari says his administration is doing everything within its power to bring down the prices of food items across the country.

The COVID-19 pandemic, flooding, among other issues have led to a recent spike in the prices of food items in the country.

In a tweet posted on his Twitter handle on Thursday, September 3, President Buhari assured Nigerians that this period of increase in food prices will be a transient one.

Quote:''To ease the current high cost of poultry production, I have approved the release of 30,000 tons of maize from the national reserves, to animal feed producers.

We are very mindful of the challenge of high food prices, at a time when the economy is already in a slowdown caused by the global coronavirus situation, and are doing everything in our power to bring down the prices of food items across the country.

Let me assure Nigerians that this situation of spiraling food prices will be a transient one.

We are also engaging with food producers associations and groups to tackle the issue of exploitative behaviour by middlemen and other actors, which is one of the factors responsible for the high food prices being experienced.''

Fuel pump price: Ex-APC Spokesman, Timi Frank tells NLC, TUC, CSOs to shut down Nigeria

on
 September 3, 2020
[Image: images-3.jpeg]

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Thursday urged the leadership of the organized Labour in Nigeria to mobilise and shut down the country in reaction to the astronomical hike in fuel price and electricity tariff by the Federal Government.

In a statement issued and sent to DAILY POST on Thursday in Abuja, he also called on the National Assembly to urgently reconvene and speak on behalf of Nigerians who elected them just like the 7th National Assembly did in 2012 when fuel was increased from N65.00 to N140.00 by the administration of ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan, in January 2012.

Frank strongly condemned the increase in the price of petrol from N148.50 to N151.56 per litre by the Pipeline Products Marketing Company (PPMC) and electricity tariff from N22.00 to N66.00 per kilowatt by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

He called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigerian (PENGASSAN), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nigerian Median Association (NMA), Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other Civil Society Organization (CSOs), to rise up and defend the weak, poor and helpless masses in the face of this massive and unbearable onslaught against their very being.

“The NLC has rejected the evil price increase through a statement, it is now time for the Ayuba Wabba leadership of the Union to match their words with action on the streets just like ex-NLC President, Abdulwaheed Omar, did in collaboration with the Change Nigeria Group (CNG) in 2012,” Frank said.

He said that the fuel price and electricity tariff increase are most untenable especially at a period when crude oil prices have plummeted internationally and while majority of Nigerians who are not metered are languishing under the yoke of estimated billing respectively.

“The action of the Federal Government in hiking the prices of essentials goods and services, like fuel and electricity, is tantamount to removing economic ventilators from majority of Nigerians on life support due to COV-poverty.

“This is manifestly anti-God, anti-people, unacceptable, provocative, oppressive, insensitive, wicked, satanic and a total negation of the social contract between a people and its Government,” Frank declared.

According to him, since the primary function of Government is to seek the welfare and security of its citizens, the Federal Government must as a matter of urgency increase the nation’s minimum wage to N100,000.00 to mitigate its induced rise in the cost of living.

He called on the Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to urgently reverse the increases as well as reduce its over- bloated cost of governance by 50 per cent in order to conserve scarce resources.

The Bayelsa-born political activist lamented that rather than follow international best practices in giving Nigerians stimulus packages to cushion the harsh effects of the current economic downturn, occasioned by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Government has chosen to deliberately inflict pain and impoverish Nigerians.

“The duty of Government is to shield its people, especially the poor and vulnerable population, from the harsh effects of market forces and not to heap pain and anguish on them under the guise of full deregulation.

“Why have they chosen to increase the burdens of Nigerians rather than lighten them?

Why have they chosen to give Nigerians stones instead of bread? Why have they chosen to give Nigerians snakes instead of fish?

“It is dangerous for the Federal Government to aid a tiny cabal in preying on the people in order to satisfy their ostentatious cravings,” Frank said.

According to him, the Federal Government should be mindful of political upheavals in Sudan and Mali following its kind of anti-people policies and actions.

Petrol price hike: Buhari govt worse than military – PDP

on
 September 3, 2020
[Image: Muhammadu-Buhari.jpg]

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that the All Progressives Congress(APC) government of President Muhammadu Buhari is worse than the military government with the brazen manner it jacked up the price of petroleum without consideration for poor Nigerians.

The party’s factional Chairman in Ekiti, Hon. Bisi Kolawole, said the action was an eye-opener for Nigerians to vote for the PDP in the 2023 election to put a halt to the maladministration and sufferings being inflicted on them by the APC government.

But the APC through its State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ade Ajayi, said the PDP was not competent to brand the ruling party as being militaristic, saying Buhari has been devising ways to clear the mess left by 16 years of PDP’s misrule in the country.

The federal government had on Wednesday jacked up the pump price from N150 to N152, which propelled the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to direct its members to start selling petrol for N162 per litre across the nation.

Kolawole, who responded via the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju, in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, described the action coming during the COVID-19 crisis as “wicked, inhuman and militaristic in nature”.

The PDP leader said it was only a government that is sadistic and thinks less of its citizens’ welfare that would bring such a harsh policy under a debilitating economy caused by coronavirus pandemic.
“This is an eye-opener for all Nigerians that the APC government was a mistake. It should be voted out in 2023, because no power is greater than the will of the people.

“It was sad that President Buhari could contemplate this when other nations were giving stimulus packages to private organizations and palliatives to their citizens, this failed APC government was inflicting hardship on the populace.

“In 2014 when the former President Goodluck Jonathan increased the pump price from N65 to N100, the APC members engineered protests across Nigeria calling that government a failure. But if that was a failure, how would Nigerians describe this?”.

Kolawole advised Nigerians that only a change of government can restore normalcy to Nigerians and not protests as being suggested in some quarters.
“In my humble opinion, I don’t want Nigerians to protest, because the APC government is capable of anything. I don’t want them to be killed on the streets, but let them wait till 2023 and vote them out, that is the best way out”.
But the APC spokesman, Ade Ajayi, urged Nigerians not to listen to the vituperation from the opposition, saying the party was ignorant of how petrol economy is run.

“The PDP was only acting and basing its criticisms on ignorance. The petrol prices are not determined by government solely, it’s by market’s demand and supply forces.

“About three months ago, the prices of petrol products went down and a litre was sold for between N120 and N100 naira. That was determined by market forces and I know the price will come down soon, all we need is patience.
“This government is trying to clear the mess left by the PDP government and gradually we could see the gains. So, the PDP should stop this shameful act, because Nigerians won’t listen to its noise”

Two Nigerian nationals arrested in India for hacking bank account

The Surat Crime Branch on Wednesday, September 2, arrested two Nigerian nationals and three others for allegedly hacking the bank account of a builder and transferring Rs 1.71 crore through net banking.

The Nigerian accused are identified as Raphael Yinka (38) and Kelvin Ozombe (38), who reside in Mumbai. Others are Nevil Shukla, a resident of Rajkot, Rakesh Malaviya from Katargam, and Imran Kazi from Mumbai.

According to the Indian Express, the builder lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Rs 1.71 crore was fraudulently transferred from his bank account on July 26 and July 27, 2020. While investigating, police found out that of the total amount, Rs 18.20 lakh was transferred to two bank accounts belonging to Vikash Solanki from Surat.

When police questioned Solanki a couple of days ago, he told them that he saw an advertisement in a local daily which claimed that a person could earn while working from home. Accordingly, he contacted the phone number mentioned in the advertisement.

The person on the other side identified himself as Mohit Parmar, who told Solanki to open two bank accounts in ICICI and provide all the details to him. Solanki did as he was told, police said. Parmar then handed over Solanki’s ATM cards, pass books and other bank details to Imran Kazi. Police have also interrogated Parmar along with Solanki.
Imran then handed over everything to Nevil Shukla and his aide Rakesh Malaviya. The five members divided Rs 18.20 lakh among themselves.

Police have recovered 10 mobile phones and five ATM cards from the accused. After carrying out Covid-19 test, the accused were arrested by Crime branch officials on Wednesday afternoon.

Police inspector of Surat crime branch A K Chauhan in a statement said that the five members who have been arrested told them that Rs 1.71 crore that they stole from the Surat builder’s account has been transferred to 11 other bank accounts.

"Of this, we have already got details of Rs 18.20 lakh. The gang members used to target unemployed youths and lure them to work from home and earn money. Vikash Solanki is one of them.”

The inspector added, “Imran, Nevil and Rakesh provide bank account details to the Nigerian nationals in which the fraud money is transferred. We have not pressed any charge against Solanki and Parmar yet, as their role in the gang has not been established yet.

See the 'sick' rap lines composed by two teenagers after hacking man to death with samurai sword

Two teenagers, Kiyran Earnshaw, 18, and 16-year-old Luke Gaukroger hacked a man to death with a samurai sword before writing a sickening rap about the gruesome murder.

Robert Wilson, 53, a father of two, was stabbed more than 100 times by the teenagers before they tried to behead him outside a factory in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Kiyran Earnshaw and Luke Gaukroger, used a 20in Samurai like blade to carry out the attack while shouting "pass me the shank."

After being charged with murder, Gaukroger then wrote a vile rap called "No Remorse" boasting about the killing.

The lines included "sitting in the dock trying to show remorse but I don’t feel it" and "fake apology just to be at home".

Another line in the song reads "We will never snitch on each other. To you, he’s a psycho, To me, he’s my brother”.

Read the rap lines by Luke Gaukroger below.
Sitting in the dock, tryna
Show remose but I don’t feel
It an’ I can’t even talk, can’t
Chat at the judge like ‘I’m
Sorry, I was too fucked, didn’t
Mean to catch a body’.

In all Honesty I wouldn’t mean it though
Fake apology just to be at home
It wouldn’t work though, cos I killed
A guy with a big long Sammy,
Not a kitchen knife. My Codee
Sat up in Doncaster,
FREE MY
GUY KIYRAN, HE AIN’T NO ACTOR
He got nicked with class As
As well.
 Both bagged on the scene
But we won’t tell. Na, we
Never will snitch on each other. To
You he’s a pyscho. To me, he’s my
brudda And truss me, it worked the
Other way round.

 If I heard
He had beef I’d put a paigon
In the ground. But now I’m just
Sitting in the pen looking at 15, won’t
See him again or I might get
Hit with less but still 10 years is
A fucking stress. If it gets droped Down to manslaughter, get get wid a 10

After the pair were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court today, Wednesday, September 2, his bereaved wife, Elaine said: "The hardest part of losing Robert has been the manner in which he lost his life.
"That he had such a horrific death has been hard to bear for us.

"We have tried to look for positives and are thankful that it was only one life that was taken, it could quite easily have been more.
"We are just so glad that these youths are now off our streets as they obviously have no regard for anyone.

'To do what they did is incomprehensible to any "normal" human being and they do not deserve a place in society."

The police in Anambra state have arrested a 25-year-old pregnant woman, Oyinye Chime, for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, Eleyi Azubuike, to death at his home in Ochiagha street in Nkpor, an area in the state on Wednesday, September 2.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Muhammed Haruna, who disclosed this to newsmen, said the police received a report of the alleged murder and immediately visited the scene on Wednesday.

Quote:'Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased allegedly impregnated the suspect and wanted an abortion which she declined and demanded some money for her upkeep which the deceased also refused to oblige. ''Come out and lead a protest''- Nigerians tell Atiku Abubakar as he rejects increase in electricity tarriff

Some Nigerians on Twitter have called on former Vice President and PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to lead them in the protest against the increase in electricity tariff.

On Tuesday, September 1, the electricity distribution companies (DisCos) across the country began the implementation of a new electricity tariff regime which will see Nigerians paying more for electricity. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had ordered the DisCos to maintain a N4 tariff for all customers consuming less than 50kWh of energy per month.

Atiku Abubakar via his Twitter handle, joined other Nigerians to condemn the increment. According to him, the increment is ill-advised and ill-timed.

Quote:''I reject the increased electricity tariffs. Coming out of the lockdown, Nigerians need a stimulus, not an impetuous disregard for the challenges they face. Many Nigerians have not earned an income for months, due to no fault of theirs. This increase is ill-timed and ill-advised.'' he tweeted
[Image: 5f50e5cc99fcf.PNG]

Nigerians took to the comment section of Atiku's post to ask him to come out and lead a protest if he is indeed against the increment. See tweets below

Confusion As Petrol Marketers Fix Price At N162 A Litre
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas

Quote:• Marketers blame govt for chaos • Say govt still toying with subsidy

• Increase unacceptable, House minority caucus declares

• PDP describes the hike as callous, cruel, punishing

• SPN asks NLC, TUC to lead a protest

Barely two days after electricity tariff was increased by about 300 per cent, oil marketers yesterday fixed the pump price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol, at N162 per litre. The marketers fixed the new price following the Federal government’s announcement that the product would now be sold to marketers at the depot price N151.56.

But no sooner had the government and marketers announced the new price regimes than a hail of attacks and criticism greeted them.

Among those that rejected or kicked against the hikes were the minority caucus of the House of Representatives, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN), and Advocacy for Integrity and Economic Development (AIED).

Marketers’ new price announcement came as Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), the agency expected to modulate the price monthly, failed to announce the new retail price.

They claimed the absence of the PPPRA’s template created confusion coupled with the issuance of two conflicting statements by a subsidiary of the NNPC, Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC). The two statements fixing two ex-depot prices: N147.67 and N151.56.

The PPMC, in the first statement dated September 2, 2020, with reference number PPMC/IB/LS/020, notified stakeholders that the price had increased to N151.56 per litre.

The same agency, in the second statement, with reference number PPMC/MOD/SALES/346, put ex-depot price at N147.67 for petrol.

With an ex-depot price of N151.56, some marketers noted that additional charges for distribution margin, transporter allowance, retailer margin, bridging fund, marine transport as well as administration charges would push the retail price up to an average of N162 per litre, based on market fundamentals.

As of the time of filing this report, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) was uncertain of the price as the association’s Vice President, Abubakar Shettima, told The Guardian the situation was being weighed.

The Southwest Zonal Chairman of IPMAN, Dele Tajudeen, however, told The Guardian the association had directed its members to dispense the product at N162 per litre.

Tajudeen alleged that the NNPC had been selling to their retail outlets at different prices, bringing disparity in the system, especially for other marketers.

“This pits us against the masses. Government has been insensitive to people’s plight”, he said.Reacting to the hike, the minority caucus in the House ofRepresentatives, in a statement by its leader, Ndidu Elumelu, described price increase as unacceptable.

The caucus said the hike would worsen high cost of consumer goods and services and economic hardship suffered by Nigerians.

Elumelu said: “The minority caucus in the House of Representatives rejects the announced increase in the pump price of fuel.

“This is because such increase will directly result in more hardship on our citizens, particularly at this critical time when the majority of Nigerians, across the country, are struggling to survive under the burden of the high cost of living and low purchasing power occasioned by the prevailing economic challenges.’’

The caucus asked PPMC to revert to former price.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described the increase as callous, cruel and punishing.

The party called on the National Assembly to caution the APC Federal Government and prevent it from plunging the nation into chaos.

The party demanded reversal of the prices to avert national crisis, stating that the increase “will result in upsurge in costs of goods and services and worsen the biting hardship faced by Nigerians, who are already impoverished and grappling with high cost of living in the last five years.”

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said increasing fuel price from N87 per litre to N151 and hiking electricity tariff from N30.23 per kwh to over N66, had left no one in doubt that APC’s agenda was to inflict pain and hardship on Nigerians to satisfy their selfish interests.

The party challenged the APC and the Buhari administration to publish parameters with which they arrived at the increase of fuel price, arguing that with the prevailing values in the international market, the appropriate price template for domestic pump price in Nigeria ought not to be above N100 per litre

SIMILARLY, Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) condemned the price increase.

The party, in a statement signed by its acting National Chairman, Abiodun Bamigboye, and National Secretary, Chinedu Bosah, described the increment as one too many. It called on the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), not to only issue statements but to mobilise to fight back.

It said, “SPN strongly condemns this increase and demands its immediate and unconditional reversal to pre-May 2020 price. But condemnation in words alone will not be enough, especially for an obdurately anti-poor capitalist regime which has made it clear to everyone it is desperate at offloading economic catastrophe on the heads of working class and poor Nigerians.

“We, therefore, call on the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) not to simply issue statements as it has been doing for months now, condemning in strong terms one anti-poor government policies or another without taking any serious action to mobilise to fight back, thus effectively allowing the capitalist ruling elite to condemn the masses to suffer in silence while disarming the advanced layers of the working class and youths who are rearing to fight back but need bold and militant leadership.”

Advocacy for Integrity and Economic Development (AIED) described the hike as “draconian anti-masses policy by a heartless administration.”

In a statement on Wednesday by its Director of Media and Publicity, O’Seun John, the organisation urged the Federal Government to revert to old price and tariff.

The statement read, “We received with shock the report of yet another increase in the price of petrol at the depot just two months after it was hiked.’’

A Professor of Economics, at the Babcock University, Segun Ajibola, noted that hiking prices of essential products such as electricity and petrol would worsen the standard of living and increase poverty level.

Idayat Hassan, who is the Director of the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), noted that the hike would undermine efforts to reduce cases of COVID-19, saying the masses would be forced to look for means of survival in the absence of palliatives from the government.

“Income has not increased but prices of basic amenities are going up at a time when people are losing jobs. It shows our government is not thinking,” she stated.

Katsina Man Keeps Son, 16, In Cage For Four Years - Picture

Quote:A 16-year-old boy, identified as Sadiqu Daura, who was confined to a cage for four years by his father because of his condition, has been allocated a room in the man’s house.

Sadiqu’s father, Mallam Salisu Daura, confirmed the development when a team from a non-government organisation, Save the Children, visited his house in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday.

The organisation is at the forefront of those protecting the boy’s interest to ensure that he lives a normal life.

Salisu told the team, “I regret my actions and it’ll never happen again. The people, who took up this case, are not my enemies. They will live long, because I’ll keep praying for their success. They’ve helped me and I’ve now realised my mistakes.

“I don’t have enough rooms in the house as you can see. I didn’t put him in the cage to punish him or because I don’t love him. It was just my way of allocating a room to him.”

The father of 16, who is also a tailor, showed Sadiqu’s new room, which is about 90 per cent complete, to the team.

Investigation revealed that Sadiqu’s predicament started when he lost his mother six years ago.

Being a cripple, he was then taken to his paternal grandmother, who also died shortly thereafter.

Sadiqu was thereafter brought back to his father’s house and was put inside a cage because of his condition.

It was learnt that a change agent of the Save the Children in Daura, Mallam Aminu Gambo, drew the attention of the organisation to Sadiqu’s plight and the NGO consequently took it up.

“Upon finding out about Sadiqu’s predicament, we swung into action by first visiting the house. We took the matter to the Police Area Commander, who sent us to the command headquarters in Katsina,” Gambo stated.

A top police source revealed that Sadiqu is mentally ill, a development which he said occasionally affected his behaviour and interaction with people.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “The father is not wicked. We all have our individual challenges. When the matter was brought to our notice, we carried out our investigation and we discovered that apart from being crippled, the boy is also mentally ill.

“We directed the father to ensure that the boy is well taken care of. And this, the father did according to his ability.”

Pastor Adeboye Buys New Helicopter For Rural Evangelism

Quote:BREAKING!
Rural Evangelism: Pastor Enoch Adeboye Buys Brand New Helicopter

by Daniel Breakforth

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has just received a brand new helicopter. Church Gist can authoritatively reveal that the Helicopter with registration marking ‘5N-EAA’ representing ‘Enoch Adejare Adeboye’ arrived Nigeria very recently, precisely about 2 weeks ago.

Recall that in December 2019, the 78 year old General Overseer of the Church with the ‘most ambitious evangelism drive globally’ according to News outfits Al-Jazeera and American News Outfit ‘Cable News Network’ (CNN) went on an apostolic/evangelical visit usually known as ‘LET’S GO A FISHING’ to about 20 towns around Nigeria within 4 days preaching and winning souls to Christ.

Church Gist stated then that the only possible way for such to be achieved was through an easy means of transportation such as a helicopter. The G.O, Pastor Enoch Adeboye had stated in 1981 as a 39 year old leader of the RCCG that the Church intended to plant Churches within 3 minutes driving distance in the developed world and 5 minutes walking distance in the developing world. This has led the Church to grow from 38 Churches when he stepped into office to over 40,000 Churches in the last 39 years and as old age finally arrives, the easy and sensible way to spearhead the continuing expansion is to the make use of an easy mode of transport to access the hinterlands.

Recently, the Bishop Oyedepo led Living Faith Church also acquired a new helicopter. The Living Faith Church is also planting 10,000 new churches in 2020 with over 5,000 already planted around Nigeria and in some other African countries inspite of the lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The RCCG and the Living Faith Churches who are usually maligned ‘ignorantly’ on social media are the Churches presently spearheading the most aggressive evangelism move with massive church planting the World has ever witnessed from all records available.

The Church in Nigeria has recently come into the eye of the public as a result of issues raised by Bishop David Oyedepo regarding controversies over the recently signed CAMA (Company and Allied Matters Act) Law while 2 day’s ago, Pastor Adeboye visited the Seat of Power to meet the Nigerian President at the Aso Rock Villa in what was touted to be a meeting to among other things resolve the CAMA Controversy.

The brand new helicopter ‘5N-EAA’ is presently parked in the Winners’ Chapel owned hangar‘Dominion Aviation Center’ at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

Pastor Adeboye had famously stated to Al Jazeera’s Mohammed Adow in an interview monitored by Church Gist on 13th April 2013...”There are things you need...when you have to oversee churches in 160 nations, you can’t do that on a bicycle”. Today, the RCCG has churches in over 190 countries of the world.

Mohammed Adow of Al-Jazeera had ended that interview report by saying “More and more Nigerians have convinced themselves that their government has gone to sleep, so to their pastors they run for help”.

Navy arrests 8 suspected foreign rice smugglers

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory has arrested 8 suspected foreign rice smugglers in Calabar, Cross River.

Among the suspects arrested for smuggling 1,522 bags of foreign bags of rice is a 16-year-old boy.  Commander of NNS Victory, Commodore Idi Abbas said the suspects were arrested in two batches.

The first group of four men were arrested on Sunday August 30, around Tom Short Island with a large wooden boat containing 1,482 bags of foreign parboiled rice. The second group of four persons were arrested on September 2 with two fibre boats, containing 40 bags of foreign rice suspected to have been smuggled from Cameroon.

Abbas told newsmen that the confiscated items and eight suspects will be handed over to the Team Leader of Operation Border Drill for further investigations and prosecution.

He said;

Quote:“We have been up and doing as part of our patrol effort not only to check smuggling but also curb all forms of criminality within our waterways.

“We are aware that most times when kidnapping is carried out, the fastest way for them to escape is through the creeks, so we have placed our boats at vantage positions that you cannot go into the sea without being seen.

“We all know that times are hard but no matter how hard times are, there are other ways of earning a living legitimately."

Receiving the suspects and items, Superintendent of  the Nigerian Customs Service, Chuks Ofilli said the procedure of the service was to take the items confiscated to the government ware house. He said that the suspects would be handed over to the legal unit.
