Kanye West Urinates On Grammy, Declares 'Black Masters Matter

Quote:Kanye URINATES on Grammy, declares 'Black Masters Matter' and says he 'can't be muted or cancelled' after comparing the music industry to a slave ship and vowing not to release songs until he's freed from Universal and Sony contracts

- Kanye West shared shocking footage of himself urinating on a Grammy Award on Wednesday
- The rapper is enraged that most artists do not own their masters (the rights to their own work), and has been savaging the structure of the music industry
- West wants to buy his masters from Universal, and is trying to get out of his contract with the label
- He has vowed not to make new music until he owns his masters and is freed from various contracts he has signed over the years
West's masters are likely worth hundreds of millions of dollars
- Last year, Taylor Swift was left dumbfounded when her rival, Scooter Braun, snapped up the rights to her masters in a $300 million deal

Kanye West has shared shocking footage of himself urinating on a Grammy Award as he 'goes into battle' against labels Universal and Sony to try and retrieve the rights to his own music.

The rapper, 43, posted the vision to his Twitter feed on Wednesday afternoon, which showed one of his 21 Grammys placed inside of a toilet bowl.

'Trust me... I WON'T STOP,' West captioned the clip, which referred to his current bid to gain ownership of his masters - otherwise known as the copyright to his original songs.

On Monday, West started attacking the structure of the music industry, declaring that musicians actually had little to no power because record labels owned all of their work.

He took aim at his labels Universal and Sony and vowed not to release any new music until he was freed from his contracts with them.

West has won a whopping 21 Grammy Awards across the past two decades. He is pictured with three of the accolades back in 2005

In a stinging tweet on Tuesday, West also savaged the strict contracts that black NBA players were under, and stated: 'The music industry and the NBA are modern day slave ships. I'm the new Moses'.

Taking to Twitter again on Wednesday morning, the rapper repeated the same sentiment, claiming: 'There is no NBA or music industry without black people... fair contracts matter... ownership matters'.

West also shared the screenshots of a private contract he signed with Universal back in 2011, just minutes after he tweeted: 'I feel so humbled and blessed that God has put me in a strong enough position to do this ... Everyone keep praying.. It's working... I am on my knees this morning.'

He then appeared to address black artists directly, and claimed that there needed to be an overhaul in the business.

'We've gotten comfortable with not having what we deserve ... they [record labels] allow us to have a little money from touring, get some gold chains, some alcohol, some girls and fake numbers that feed our egos ... but we don't own our masters,' he wrote.

He further accused the media of 'trying to kill' black , including Michael Jackson.

He also riffed on the Black Lives Matter movement, by tweeting: 'BLACK MASTERS MATTER'.

West also referenced his wife, Kim Kardashian, by joking that she was working as his lawyer throughout the process.

The reality star last year revealed that she was starting a four-year law apprenticeship under the supervision of lawyers Erin Haney and Jessica Jackson

During his Wednesday Twitter rant, West also stated that he was too powerful to be 'muted or cancelled' and declared that he was rich enough to buy his masters from Universal and Sony.

'Universal won't tell me what my masters cost because they know I can afford to buy them,' he taunted in a tweet shared shortly after 9am.

West has a reported net worth of $1.3 billion. The cost of his masters is likely to be upwards of $300 million.

Back in 2018, Scooter Braun bought Big Machine Label Group for that price, acquiring almost all of Taylor Swift's masters in the process.

Meanwhile, West went on to share a number of Biblical verses, before writing: 'I KNOW MY LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST WILL MAKE FOOLS OF AND PUNISH ALL WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN UNFAIR CONTRACTS'.

He added: 'I will do everything in my legal power and use my voice until all artist contracts are changed, starting with getting my masters for my children. I will not stop, I promise you. I am petty and very personal.'

He further claimed that the bid to own his masters was to ensure the future financial security of the four children he shares with Kardashian.

Referencing his daughter, North, he stated: 'She will be able to do nothing but put up emojis for the rest of her life because my children will own my masters.'

On Monday, West hit out at the fact most artists do not own their masters.

'In the streaming world master ownership is everything... that is the bulk of the income ... in COVID artist need our masters,' he wrote.

'Artists are starving without tours ... Ima go get our masters ... for all artists ... pray for me.'

Later in the day, he reportedly tried to contact Universal and Sony about being released from his contracts.

The following day he shared a text conversation on Twitter about possibly taking legal action against Universal and Sony after failing to hear from them.

In the actual text conversation, the individual who could be a lawyer writes: 'Meaning that we can argue that Universal and Sony have not supported you fully. And that as a result they have breached. This is the lawsuit/termination nuclear option.'

The individual continues: 'If we went that route we would litigate and ask for your masters as part of a settlement. This is a high risk but high reward strategy.'

At some point, West and the individual spoke about Taylor Swift and the controversial $300million deal that Scooter Braun, who manages Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, struck in order to obtain her master recordings in 2019.

'Re masters ownership we can look into buying. But if Taylor's [Swift] cost $300million yours would cost a lot more I assume. Remember that if you re-recorded these songs you could own these new masters outright,' the person speaking with West wrote.

'A much more radical consideration would be to propose an entirely new relationship or joint venture with Universal. One that is equal and not one sided. I am not sure you are interested in that. But if [sic] could be a Yeezy Media/Universal joint venture play but one where you have the power,' the person continued.

In response to those text messages, West responded: 'I'm not open to any form of business with Universal or Sony.'

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP says it welcomes the European Union’s visa ban and asset seizure against election riggers.

The nation’s foremost opposition party commended the UK government for its quick response alongside the US in their bid to stop electoral fraud being perpetrated by leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and their alleged compromised Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security officials.

“The @OfficialPDPNig welcomes the decision of the @EUinNigeria to impose Visa ban as well as the seizure of assets and property belonging to those involved in undermining our electoral process, particularly ahead of the Edo and Osun governorship elections,” the PDP said in a statement it shared on Twitter on Wednesday.

The PDP further called on other countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, France, Spain, Canada as well as African countries and the ECOWAS to also ban such politicians and their family members.

“Our party, being the genuine Pan Nigeria political platform standing with the Nigerian people, urges the world community to profile the election riggers and their agents in @inecnigeria and security agencies and ban their family members from benefiting from services from other countries of the world.

“On the Edo governorship election, those at the forefront of the undermining of our democratic process, including the @OfficialAPCNg candidate, @IzeIyamu4EdoGov, vote who was seen publicly directing thugs, cultists and killers as tigers and lions to invade polling units and unleash violence on election day, should be immediately profiled for sanctions.

“The same goes to the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredelo, who was publicly exposed by a confessed @OfficialAPCNg militant and former APC chairman in the state, Isaac Kekemeke, as being behind the violent attacks against our party in the state.

“On our own part, the @OfficialPDPNig remains law-abiding but will never allow anybody to use any means whatsoever, to manipulate the Edo and Ondo governorship election.

“Never! Not after the people of Edo state had manifestly expressed their resolve to re-elect our candidate, @GovernorObaseki and when the people of Ondo state have resolved to replace the failed Governor Akeredolu with our candidate, @TayoJegedeSAN on September 19 and October 10 respectively.”

*Wike says Obaseki will win convincingly

Quote:The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Campaign Council Chairman, Nyesom Wike has declared that Governor Godwin Obaseki would win the Edo governorship election convincingly.

Wike, who is also the Governor of Rivers State, made the assertion at the Grand Finale of the Edo PDP Campaign held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Wike said the convincing evidence on ground has shown the general acceptance of the party by the electorate.

He stated that with the achievements of the last four years, it would be impossible for Obaseki not to be declared the winner.

The Rivers governor however urged Edo people not to take things for granted but turn out in large numbers to vote the candidate of PDP.

“By the grace of God, the election has been won by Governor Obaseki. That does not mean that you’ll go and sleep. Everybody that wants to fight godfatherism should come out to vote.

“Use Edo election to end godfatherism. Make sure you vote and be vigilant too.

“I agree with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the election will be free and fair. Even the Inspector General of Police has promised that nobody will rig the election. But do not leave the polling units after casting your votes.

“Repeat the Rivers State Model. Let every woman wear jean on election day, cast and defend your votes.

“Follow the votes to the Collation Centres. Do not go until INEC has announced Godwin Obaseki as the winner,” he said.

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus described the Edo election as a special one.

He said the election would determine the status of elective democracy in Nigeria that is devoid of rigging.

“Let there be more restrictions for election riggers. Just like United States has done, I call on other democratic countries of the world to rise to protect Nigeria’s democracy.

“We all know that Obaseki is a performing governor. He has impacted the lives of Edo people. Let their will prevail. Edo people should resist all forms of godfatherism,” he stated.

In his speech, the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, and Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal urged Edo people not to sell their votes.

“I hear somebody said he will come to Edo with bullion vans. Stand firm and do not sell your votes.

“I appeal to INEC to conduct free and fair election. There should not be intimidation of the electorate.

“Stay at your polling units. Ensure your votes are counted. Vote for continuity,” he stated.

On his part, the Chairman of South-South Governors’ Forum and Governor of Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa said nobody can cheat PDP of its votes because it is a majority party in Edo State.

“We are not afraid. Nobody will change the results or cheat us on Saturday.

“You have done extensive campaign, from ward to ward. Pick your PVC on Saturday, go to your polling units and cast your votes for PDP,” he said.

Former Vice Presidential Candidate of the PDP, Peter Obi also spoke and urged Edo electorate not to vote the APC candidate for the sake of Nigeria.

According to him, we want Nigeria to be good and people like Obaseki are trusted.

The mega rally was also attended by the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, and his Akwa-Ibom State counterpart, Emmanuel Udom.

Also in attendance were the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, his Abia State counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Cross River State Governor, Professor Benedict Ayade.

Other dignitaries that accompanied the Rivers State Governor were the former Governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara and former Minister of Transport, Chief Abiye Sekibo..

Over 8,000 people sign Reno Omokri's petition asking the EU and UK to bar Governor El-Rufai

A petition initiated by former Presidential aide Reno Omokri, for the United Kingdom and the European Union to place a visa restriction on Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, has been signed by over 8,000 people.

The petition shared on Change.Org, was addressed to the UK Parliament, the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson; Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.

The petition read;

Quote:Petition For The Government of the United Kingdom and the European Union to Place a Travel Ban on Nasir El-Rufai, for Promoting Genocide and Religious and Political Intolerance.

Nasir El-Rufai is a threat to the peace and security of Nigeria for many reasons chief of which are that:

On December 3, 2016, he admitted that he paid killer herdsmen who killed Nigerian citizens, because they were of the same ethnicity as him. Since that admission, there has been an intense escalation of the killings of mostly Christians in Kaduna, and on August 25, 2020, suspected herdsmen abducted seven schoolchildren and their teacher from Prince Academy, in Kaduna. They have not been seen or heard of since then

On September 8, 2014, Nasir El-Rufai falsely accused former President Jonathan and then President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor of founding and funding Boko Haram to the tune of N50 billion.
On January 27, 2013, he insulted the Lord Jesus Christ on Twitter

On February 6, 2019, he threatened foreign observers, including observers from the EU and UK with death, warning that they would return in “body bags”, should they intervene in Nigeria.

On July 15, 2012, Nasir El-Rufai said, and I quote “We will write this for all to read. Anyone, soldier or not that kills the Fulani takes a loan repayable one day no matter how long it takes.” This threat has been carried out in Southern Kaduna were there is an ongoing genocide of

Christians under El-Rufai’s watch.
On August 23, 2019, he charged the Anglican Bishop of Zaria province of Kaduna, Abiodun Ogunyemi, for defamation.

Nasir El-Rufai circulated an email circulated an email referring to Southern Nigerian women as whores.

On April 13, 2020, proving that the Apple does not fall far from the tree, his son, Bello El-Rufai threatened to gang rape the mother of a Southern Christian woman, proving that the idea that Southern women are “whores” is well established in the El-Rufai household.

On April 24, 2019, another of his sons, Bashir El-Rufai, described the pogrom against Igbos as “sweet”.

It is for this reason that Nigerian citizens call on the government of the United Kingdom and the European Union Presidency to follow the lead of the United States and place a visa ban on Nasir El-Rufai, who is scheming to become Nigeria’s President, to prevent a Rwandan style genocide in Nigeria.

As at the time of filing this report, 8.896 people have signed the petition.

International travelers who are positive are arriving Nigeria with fake COVID-19 negative results- PTF raises alarm

The Presidential Taskforce PTF on COVID-19 has raised an alarm that some International travelers who are COVID-19 positive, are coming into the country with fake COVID-19 PCR negative results.

Recall that the Federal government announced that one of the protocols to be obeyed as the international airspace reopens is for all inbound passengers to undergo a COVID0-19 test 72 hours before arriving Nigeria and that the result must be negative.

However, the National Co-Ordinator of the PTF, Dr Sani Aliyu, today said fraudulent activities have been noticed in some of the test results presented on arrival. According to Sani, some travellers arrived in the country with negative COVID-19 test results but were later discovered to be COVID-19 positive. He stated this when he and other members of the taskforce appeared before the Joint Senate Committee on Health and Aviation on the testing procedures following the reopening of the International airspace.

Quote:When we started the evacuation flights, the arrangement then was that people coming into the country will need to have a negative COVID-19 PCR result, with the test validity put at the time in seven days.

There were indications from some specific countries where we had up to 40% of the passengers in the single flight coming in with a negative COVID-19 PCR result and subsequently being tested and found positive''he said

Sani said the test results presented by inbound travellers can no longer be trusted. He said 13 countries have been identified to have travelers with fake COVID-19 test results and the Federal government has written to the embassies to correct this anomaly.

• Labour meets today, TUC says planned protest, strike on course

Quote:Adelani Adepegba, Abuja

An eight-hour meeting involving the Federal Government, the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress ended in a deadlock on Tuesday, following the inability of the parties to reach a consensus.

While the organised labour was demanding the reversal of the hikes in the price of petrol and electricity tariffs, the Federal Government pleaded for understanding, saying it could not sustain the fuel subsidy.

Although the government team made presentations on its policies, it didn’t specify how the effects of the hikes in electricity and petroleum products would be alleviated.

Also on Tuesday, the TUC has said the indefinite strike and nationwide protest billed to commence from Wednesday, September 23, would hold as planned.

The congress had issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government on Monday, threatening to embark on an indefinite strike if the Federal Government failed to revert to the old electricity tariff and the price of petrol.

Olaleye in response to inquiries by The PUNCH, said in a text message at 6:30 pm on Tuesday said, “The ultimatum still stands; no acceptable explanation was presented. Still in the meeting.”

The dialogue which held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, began around 11 am and dragged on till past 7 pm without a resolution on the issues raised by the organized labour.

The parties, however, agreed that the unions should go for consultations with their executive council members and return for the second leg of the meeting at a future date.

The labour unions are expected to hold an expanded meeting today (Wednesday), where they would take a final position on the issues raised at the dialogue and revert back to the government.

Lagos promises to pay minimum wage October
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige led the government team to the parley which also had in attendance the Minister of State, Labour, Festus Keyamo (SAN); Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman; Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva and others.

The labour team was led by the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba; President of the TUC, Quadri Olaleye, Secretary-General of the TUC, Musa Lawal, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria President, Festus Osifo and the President of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Association of Nigeria, Williams Akporeha, among others.

In his welcome address, Ngige said there was an urgent need for all stakeholders in the country to join hands to fashion out “how we can survive the economic challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

He said the meeting was “a bilateral dialogue between us as Nigerians to consider the state of the economy and events that have necessitated recent increases in electricity tariff and the price of Premium Motor Spirit.”

Fuel price, electricity tariff hikes have erased minimum wage gain – NLC president

But Wabba argued that the high prices of petroleum products and electricity tariff had erased the gains of the minimum wage.

He faulted the government for unilaterally fixing the prices of electricity and petrol without consultations with Nigerians.

According to him, many Nigerians are struggling to survive because of the high cost of living occasioned by the government’s recent policies which included the increase in the Value Added Tax.

Wabba stated, “The question now is what do you have on the table to actually cushion the effect on workers and their families because they have been pushed to the wall. They are already enraged.

“Do you have anything for us so that we can say yes, despite this challenges, this is what I have for Nigerian workers so that they can have something that can cushion this effect for them?

“Already, the value of the minimum wage has been eroded; that is the reality. If Ghana compares their minimum wage with our own, you will see their minimum wage.”

He accused the government of transferring the “inefficiency in the subsidy regime” to the consumers which they (consumers) have to pay through the hike in price.

The NLC president admonished the government to fix the nation’s refineries and stop lining the pockets of fuel through a fraudulent subsidy regime.

Wabba noted, “I agree with Mr President that subsidy is a fraud but do we address it or transfer it to the customers? That is where the issue is. We don’t need to transfer it to the customers.

“More than 90 countries of the world actually have minimum wage on this. Those are the issues that are biting very hard and workers and citizens are crying aloud that there is much burden on them.

“We have increased VAT, we have increased some taxes, we have increased now the fuel price and the electricity tariff. An ordinary worker can’t pay those charges. In fact, higher-level officers are complaining seriously. This is the predicament we are in.

“Therefore let us also look for solutions. How do we mitigate this impact which is very pronounced on workers?”

On his part, the TUC president asked the government to reverse the recent price hikes, which he said, had been biting Nigerians hard.

Olaleye stated, “Nigerian workers are crying and the populace is also crying. Last December, we were so happy that when we signed the minimum wage agreement and Nigerian workers were happy that their lots were increased.

“Unfortunately, now they are crying. By calculation, we are losing an additional 15 per cent of what we gained as a result of the signing minimum wage. For somebody who is paid N6,666 as increment, now he is losing not less than N25, 000 from his income. The N6, 666 is going, additional N15, 000 is added.”

Sylva in his presentations stated that the FG had yet to begin the full deregulation of the downstream sector “because of the desire of President Buhari not to inflict more pains on the masses.”

The minister emphasized that the landing cost of petrol is N163 but it was being sold for N161 per litre, indicating that full deregulation was yet to take off in the country.

He said going by the current exchange rate, the products could have been sold at N183 per litre.

He also said the FG spent N10.4 trillion on petrol subsidy between 2016 and 2019, stressing that the country was losing N1 billion daily to fuel subsidy between 2016-2019.

He added that the country was in a bad shape because of the crash of crude oil globally.

“We have not fully deregulated because of the concerns the government has for Nigerians. Price of fuel could go up to N183 per litre going by the current rate of the dollar. We need to open up the economy, even though, the initial stage may bring pains to Nigerians,” he stated.

The Federal Government two weeks ago increased the ex-depot price of petrol from N 138.62 to N147.67, prompting marketers to adjust their petrol prices to between N158 and N162 from N148 to N150 in August. The ex-depot price is the price at which government sells petrol to marketer

The fuel price hike came at a time electricity distribution companies increased their tariffs.

.
September 16, 2020.

THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced N200 billion mortgage finance loan to Family Homes Fund (FHF).

The fund is for the building of 300,000 homes in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. It is also expected to help create up to 1.5 million jobs in five years.

The CBN framework for the implementation of the Family Homes Financing Scheme released yesterday indicates that the fund would be released to FMF on project basis, subject to the cumulative maximum limit of N200 billion.

According to the framework, the three-year term loan will enable FHF finance the construction of social housing units for people on low income at an interest rate not more than five per cent per annum (all inclusive).

The apex bank said it introduced the financing initiative to support the Federal Government’s Economic Sustainability programme.

The bank added that the programme was designed to utilise, at least, 90 per cent locally manufactured inputs so as to conserve foreign exchange.

The CBN said: “In that regard, the programme will deliberately aim to revitalise local manufacture of construction materials, including doors and windows, ironmongery, sanitary fittings, concrete products, tiles, glass, electrical fittings/fixtures and bricks, etc. For example, it is estimated that the programme will require up to 1.7 million doors, seven million door hinges and locks among others.

“The programme will house up to 900,000 children and adults (at an average of three persons/home) on low income with direct impact on health, education and economic outcomes.

“ Most of these would currently live in informal settlements with shared facilities in unsanitary environments.”

The initiative is to be implemented in collaboration with Family Homes Fund (FHF) Limited as the lead developer.

It said a construction finance facility to enable FHFL implement the Federal Government’s Social Housing programme as part of the Economic Sustainability Plan 2020.

“CBN shall appoint a technical advisor to, among others, appraise the requests for funding by FHFL, recommend for the release of funds and monitor the delivery of the programme and utilization of funds including quality of the portfolio,” it added.

Bill Gates Sr Is Dead. Microsoft Co-Founder, Bill Gates' Father Dies
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 09-16-2020, 08:48 AM - No Replies

Quote:Bill Gates Sr., a lawyer and the father of Microsoft’s co-founder, who stepped in when appeals for charity began to overwhelm his billionaire son and started what became the world’s largest philanthropy, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, died on Monday at his beach home on Hood Canal, in the Seattle area. He was 94.

[Image: merlin_36167733_078e8524-52f2-489f-a49e-...erAt3x.jpg]
The cause was Alzheimer’s disease, his family said in an announcement on Tuesday.

In 1994, Mr. Gates was 69 and planning to retire from his prestigious law practice in a few years when, one autumn evening, he and his son, Bill, and his daughter-in-law, Melinda, went to a movie. Standing in the ticket line, Bill told his father that he was being inundated with appeals for charity but that he was far too busy running Microsoft to answer them.

His father suggested that he, Bill Sr., could sift through the paperwork and, with his son’s approval, send out some checks. Bill Jr. agreed.

What Mr. Gates Sr. found later were dozens of cardboard boxes filled with requests for money, many with heartbreaking stories of need. A week later, Bill Jr. set aside $100 million to open what was initially called the William H. Gates Foundation. His father, sitting at his kitchen table, wrote the first check: $80,000 for a local cancer program.

Over the next 13 years, while Bill Gates focused primarily on Microsoft, his father managed the foundation day to day, conferring with its executives and philanthropic experts, sending his son lists of proposed grants, writing checks and shaping the charity’s major goals: improving health and education and alleviating poverty in America and the third world.

“I consider Bill Gates Sr. the conscience of the Gates family,” said Pablo Eisenberg, a columnist for The Chronicle of Philanthropy. “He was instrumental in not only starting the foundation but growing it, and his motive was that with all that money, you ought to do good.”

In 2000, Bill Gates and his wife combined three family foundations and donated $5 billion in stock to create a successor charity, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Mr. Gates, his wife and his father became co-chairs of the new entity, although it was still being managed by Mr. Gates Sr. In many respects, the modern foundation still dates its inception from his first check in 1994.

With Patty Stonesifer, who bridged the old and new foundations as chief executive from 1997 to 2008, Mr. Gates Sr. channeled support for campaigns to eradicate polio, reduce infant and maternal mortality, build schools, foster an agricultural revolution in Africa and invest in technology that created savings accounts for impoverished farm families. Under him, the foundation also gave hundreds of millions to the search for a vaccine to control AIDS, the spectrum of often-fatal conditions caused by H.I.V.

“An enormous part of his contribution was not only the strategic focus and the institutional structure of the foundation, but he helped establish the principles we worked by,” Ms. Stonesifer said of Mr. Gates Sr. in an interview for this obituary in January. “He was a daily reminder that just because you have the checkbook doesn’t mean you have the knowledge or the experience on the issues we are trying to address; that we need to listen to the people who have the experience and the knowledge.”

Bill Gates Jr. credited his father with the early success of the foundation. “I make sure the resources are available, and he works to wisely spend the money,” he told The Seattle Times in 2003.

A prominent Seattle lawyer with heavy civic and professional obligations, Mr. Gates Sr. had largely left to his wife, Mary, the duties of raising their two daughters and one son, Bill, who, all agreed, became insufferably argumentative as a boy — resisting his mother’s requests that he clean up his room, that he stop biting his pencils and that he sit down to dinner on time.

Their test of wills exploded one night at the dinner table, with Bill shouting at his mother in what he described years later to The Wall Street Journal as “utter, total, sarcastic, smart-ass kid rudeness.” In response, his father, in “a rare blast of temper,” The Journal wrote, threw a glass of water in his son’s face.

Young Bill was taken to a therapist, who advised his parents to ease off on discipline. They sent him to Lakeside, a private prep school in Seattle, where he had access to computers. There he met Paul Allen, a student computer whiz.

Years later, the parents acquiesced when Bill quit Harvard and moved to Albuquerque, where he and Mr. Allen founded Microsoft in 1975.

Microsoft grew into the world’s largest personal computer software company. Its 1986 public offering turned its founders into billionaires and 12,000 employees into millionaires. It became one of America’s most valuable publicly traded companies — the third, after Apple and Amazon, to reach the magical trillion-dollar market capitalization.

“I never imagined that the argumentative young boy who grew up in my house, eating my food and using my name, would be my future employer,” Bill Sr. told the Seattle Rotary Club in 2005.

Bill Gates Jr. announced in 2006 that he would give up his daily role with Microsoft over a few years, allowing him more time to work with the foundation.

Weeks later, the financier Warren Buffett pledged to give annual gifts of stock in his company, Berkshire Hathaway, to the Gates Foundation for the rest of his life. Through 2018, his gifts totaled $24.6 billion, sharply raising the Gates endowment and charitable initiatives.

By 2008, when Bill Gates Jr. began working full time at the foundation, his father’s role had begun to diminish after 13 years as the only family member with a daily presence there. For the first time in their lives, father and son were working together. Both were strong-willed executives, but there was no question who was the boss.

“At s6-foot-6, Bill Gates Sr. is nearly a full head taller than his son,” The Journal noted. “He’s known to be more social than the younger Bill Gates, but they share a sharp intellect and a bluntness that can come across to some as curt.” The Journal added, however, “He isn’t prone to introspection, and he plays down his role in his son’s life.”

In a family line of similarly named men, William Henry Gates Sr. was called William Henry Gates Jr. at birth in Bremerton, Wash., on Nov. 30, 1925, the younger of two children of William and Lillian (Rice) Gates. (After his son, Bill — born William Henry Gates III — became famous, the father adopted the suffix “Sr.,” and the son became “Jr.” to simplify things.)

While Bill Sr.’s family was not poor during the Depression, his father, who owned a furniture store, would pick up coal that had fallen off delivery trucks and take it home to heat the house. William attended local schools and was in the Army from 1944 to 1946, rising to first lieutenant in the occupation of Japan. He went to the University of Washington on the G.I. Bill, graduating in 1949, and earning a juris doctor from its law school in 1950.

In 1951 he married Mary Maxwell, a Seattle civic leader and longtime regent of the University of Washington. Besides Bill, they had two children, Kristianne and Libby. Mary Gates died in 1994. In 1996, Mr. Gates married Mimi Gardner, the former director of the Seattle Art Museum.

In addition to his son, Bill, he is survived by his wife; his daughters, Kristianne Blake, who is known as Kristi, and Elizabeth MacPhee, who is known as Libby; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Gates co-founded what became Preston, Gates & Ellis, a leading Seattle law firm, in 1964, and was a partner until 1998. (The firm is now called K&L Gates.) He was president of the Seattle/King County Bar Association and the Washington State Bar Association and a director of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, the King County United Way and Planned Parenthood. In 1995, he founded the Technology Alliance to expand jobs in the field. He also served 15 years as a regent of the University of Washington.

But his principal focus after 1994 was the Gates foundation. During his tenure, he directed grants that created children’s vaccines; provided sanitation and clean water to impoverished rural areas in developing countries; distributed bed netting to reduce mosquito-borne malaria; supported the education of girls; and promoted contraceptive use, nutritional supplements and single-use syringes.

In an age of income inequality, Mr. Gates Sr. argued that the purpose of wealth was not to pass it on to loved ones. With Mr. Buffett and the financier George Soros, he opposed a repeal of the federal estate tax in 2001. In 2003 he published “Wealth and Our Commonwealth: Why America Should Tax Accumulated Fortunes” (written with Chuck Collins). And he campaigned unsuccessfully in 2010 for a Washington State income tax on individuals earning $200,000 and couples earning $400,000.

Unlike most philanthropies, the Gates foundation’s bylaws mandate the disposal of all its assets within 20 years of the death of Bill or Melinda Gates, whichever comes later. By 2019, the foundation had given away about $50 billion but still had a $47 billion endowment. Forbes magazine said Bill Gates had $108.8 billion in January 2020, exceeded only by the fortune of the Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos ($115.6 billion) and that of Bernard Arnault, the LVMH luxury goods titan ($117 billion).

In his book “Showing Up for Life: Thoughts on the Gifts of a Lifetime” (2009), Mr. Gates Sr. wrote: “Those who claim that the wealth they have accumulated is theirs to pass on without returning anything back to the American system show a shocking lack of appreciation for all that the system and public monies did to help them create wealth.”

Unless Buhari retraces his steps, there will be no Nigeria left by 2023 - Femi Fani Kayode

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, says unless President Buhari "retraces his steps in presiding over the affairs of the nation, there will be no Nigeria left by 2023."

Femi Fani Kayode stated this in a post shared on his Facebook page this evening. His post comes days after former President Olusegun Obasanjo opined that Nigeria is slowly becoming a failed and divided state under the Buhari-led administration.

Read FFK's post below

Quote:In 2015 I said Buhari WOULD divide Nigeria, you didn't believe me.
In 2017 I said Buhari HAD divided Nigeria, you didn't believe me.

In 2019 I said Buhari had pushed Nigeria to the BRINK of disintegration, you didn't believe me.

Today I say unless Buhari retraces his steps and we build bridges between ourselves there will be no Nigeria left by 2023, you do not believe me.

At every point over the last 5 years my words have proved to be prophetic, I have been proved right and I have been vindicated.

Those that doubt my admonitions, counsel and words do so at their own peril and frankly it takes NOTHING from me one way or the other. It is the message that matters and not what you think of the messenger.

The bitter truth is that the greatest catalyst for the disintegration of Nigeria and the most useful and prized gift to those that believe Nigeria ought to break up into pieces is Muhammadu Buhari.

He has served their purpose very well because he has not only totally divided Nigeria and destroyed our country's sense of national cohesion and unity but he has also butchered her, hacked her into pieces and buried her in many different locations!

A precious egg called Nigeria was placed into his hands in 2015 but he has crushed its shell, broken its spirit and destroyed its soul.

Today you see hundreds of thousands of sons and daughters of the South West proudly marching and demonstrating in the streets of the capitals of many of the western powers demanding for the right of self-determination and the establishment of the sovereign and independent state of Oduduwa.

Today you see millions of IPOB youths all over the world defying the odds, risking their lives and liberty and demanding for a referendum in the South East and the establishment of the Republic of Biafra.

Today you see emboldened, fiery and courageous men like Obadiah Mailafia fearlessly speaking up for the millions of people in the Middle Belt who have been subjected to the indifference, callousness, wickedness, tyranny and subjugation of this Government.

Today the people of the core north itself are speaking out in anger and saying "enough of this barbaric carnage" that they are witnessing on a daily basis in their farms and streets.

If these matters, challenges and agitations are not handled with sensitivity, understanding, restraint, wisdom and care and if the Buhari administration continues to display its characteristic impunity and disdain for the concerns, fears and will of the people, we may be pushed over the brink and our country may well be plunged into a long, terrible and catastrophic conflict in which millions will die and no-one will win.

Today in Nigeria we are no longer our brothers keeper and love, kindness and charity to our neighbours and to one another have become scarce commodities.

Sadly we have become a failed state of shattered dreams sitting on the brink of yet another civil war.

For this alone, history will judge President Muhammadu Buhari harshly and posterity will not be kind to him.''

Ighoyota Amori: DISCOs, GENCOs Far Worse Than NEPA In All Aspects
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Senator Ighoyota Amori, the Political Adviser to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, on Tuesday said Power generating companies (Gencos) and Distribution companies (Discos) are the major problems Nigerians are experiencing.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent in Abuja, Amori who said Nigeria is retrogressing on a daily basis in the management of electricity said the Discos are far worse than the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) in all aspects.

He said the Discos and Gencos have been carrying on as if they are established to cater for the needs of wealthy Nigerians alone while neglecting the masses.

In his words “To be sincere, the major problem we are having in this country today is this Discos and Gencos. I think we are retrogressing when it comes to management of our electricity in this country. I can remember very well that when I was growing up, especially in my secondary school days, we never really heard of anything called generator”.

“Generators were limited to industries, not for everyday home use. In the then Mid-west, hardly can you see people using generators to power their houses. Yes, we have issues with electricity and power failures but it was not enough reason for people to have private generators”.

“Then, the electricity company will inform people that they want to switch off power and after some time, it will be restored. By so doing, people have no need to buy generators. Today, there is no city in this country that has stable electricity. All those claiming they have 20 to 24 hours power supply are just being insincere”.

“These Discos and Gencos have a mindset that they are programmed to provide service to wealthy Nigerians and forget masses. Since they have been privatised, they believe that their focus is more of commercial gains alone and so, they look down on poor Nigerians”.

“They only listen and focus on rich Nigerians and commercial enterprises who can afford to pay any bills they are charged. They have no time to address the yearnings and complaints of the masses at all.”

“During NEPA’s time, power supply was made available to everybody. Even though it was poor, it was far better than what we are experiencing now under the Discos and Gencos. Even after you have paid and you have issues with your electricity, these Discos will want you to bribe them before they will come and rectify it. They are worse than NEPA in every aspects”.

•Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Most Rev. Wilfred Anagbe

By EMMANUEL ANTSWEN
The Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Most Rev. Wilfred Anagbe, has suspended all pastoral activities at St. Peter’s Parish, Low-Level, in Makurdi, following a desecration of the Holy Eucharist and the looting of sacred vessels in the Church.

Rev. Fr. James Utav, the Diocesan Deputy Director of Communication, confirmed the development on Tuesday, in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to him, the Bishop, while reading the decree sanctioning the suspension of pastoral activities, said the Parish would henceforth be closed from the celebration of Holy Mass and all other activities in line with Canon 1211.

“The suspension, which took effect on September 15, 2020 followed two sacrilegious attacks on the Parish on 12 August and 13 September by yet-to-be identified persons.

“The decree sanctioning the suspension states that the Parish will be closed from celebration of the Holy Mass and all other pastoral activities in line with Canon 1211 with effect from today, 15 September, 2020 until further notice,” he explained.

He quoted the Bishop as revealing that the Chapel of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the main Church building were broken into, during the attacks.

“The sacred specie of the Most Holy Eucharist was desecrated and sacred vessels looted thereby defiling the Church.

“The closure is to enable us to adequately prepare for penance required by law in order to repair the injury this profanation has done to the sacred body of Christ.

“Pastoral activities shall resume only after a proportional satisfaction is made with regards to this sacrilege and we are also fully guaranteed of a better security outfit and structure for the parish in accordance with canonical requirements.

“When that is done, the entire worshiping community of this Parish, among other things, must perform a novena of reparation to be concluded with a rite of atonement in line with diocesan liturgical norms,” he further quoted the Bishop as saying. (NAN)

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER.

THERE ARE FALSE BRETHREN

And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage (Galatians 2:4).

The Bible tells us about these three groups: false teachers, false prophets, and false brethren. It also clearly shows us the different things they’ll do in these last days. Could there really be false brethren in churches? Absolutely! False brethren are those who come in amongst God’s people, not for their love for Jesus Christ, but for a different purpose.

Our opening verse says they come in unawares, to spy out our liberty in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage. They present a false image, in order to gain some advantage. The Bible says, “And in their covetousness (lust, greed) they will exploit you with false (cunning) arguments…” (2 Peter 2:3 AMPC).

False brethren always look for ways to make money off other brethren. Meanwhile, they’re the ones who neither tithe nor give in church. Their goal is to make merchandise of the brethren. They can do anything for money, including betraying their Pastor, leader, or even the church.

They’re the ones who take church matters to the public or report to the authorities or news media for pecuniary reasons. The Bible says they’re among us to spy on us, hoping to get some matter of accusation against us.

It may not be so easy to identify false brethren because of their pretentious ways. But Jesus said, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them” (Matthew 7:20). One of the identifying signs of false brethren is that they despise authority. They’ll try to convince others on why they shouldn’t believe or do everything the Pastor or leadership of the church says. If they heard you wanted to seek pastoral guidance for something personal to you, for example, they’ll ridicule the idea and make you feel you’re being naïve.

God’s counsel to us concerning false brethren is that we mark, and not associate with them, because of their corrupting influence. Many true Christians have fallen away from the Faith because of such unwholesome association. Therefore, do what the Word says: “Withdraw yourself from every brother or sister that walks disorderly” (2 Thessalonians 3:6).

Thank you Lord, that through the Spirit, I can identify the spirit of error and act wisely. The Word guides me in the right paths and in my relationships. I’m piloted in the direction of your perfect will and purpose for my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

How should customer support be organized in a good business? I want to provide high-quality, fast, 24/7 assistance to my clients, because I know how important it's when a business is as client-oriented as possible, but I'm just an owner of an online store that increases its sales and doesn't yet have enough money to create a support center. I found outsource services. I read on their website how it works and I think it's a good idea, what do you think?

She Hugged Me & I Lost My Sense’ - Grandpa Rapes 12-Year-Old Girl In Lagos

Quote:67-year-old man arrested for defiling 12-year-old girl

Police operatives have arrested 67-year-old James Olajoyetan for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl who came to spend the recently marked Sallah with her visually impaired grandfather in Ejigbo area of Lagos State.

The suspect, a commercial tricycle operator, was alleged to have defiled the girl four times since she came visiting. It was gathered that one of the occasions was in her grandfather’s one-room apartment. He was alleged to have gagged her mouth to prevent her from shouting in order not to alert her blind grandfather.

However, at the weekend, Olajoyetan, a widower, was said to have called the girl, pretending to send her on an errand. Explaining her ordeal, the victim said: “When I went, I stood in front of his door. He told me to come inside to collect the money. When I did, he shut the door and raped me. While he was doing it, I wanted to shout but he hit me several times and covered my mouth.”

A neighbour said to be returning from a journey was alerted by the girl’s cry. Out of curiosity, he peeped through the window, forced the door open, and caught Olajoyetan in the act. He raised the alarm that alerted residents who rushed to the apartment and handed the suspect to the police at Ejigbo division.

During interrogation, the suspect claimed he was under a spell. He said: “I had a disagreement with a pastor in Christ Apostolic Church, Kajola. He accused me of being instrumental to his leaving the church. Six months ago, he boasted that he would place a spiritual load on my head and ensure I was publicly disgraced.

“Since then, I didn’t know what came over me. They claimed I raped the girl four times, but it was only once. My wife died in 2005. I have six children, the first is 35 years old while the last is 17 years. I am still shocked that I could lay with a child that is much younger than my last child. When she came in, I gave her N100 and she hugged me. At that point, I lost my sense of judgement.”

Israel Signs Peace Treaties With Arab States At Whitehouse Ceremony
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:This is peace in the Middle East, a strong peace,” said the American president, referring to “at least five or six additional countries that want to see peace with Israel.”

On Tuesday, Israel signed historic agreements with two Gulf states, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

Prior to the ceremony, which U.S. President Donald Trump presided over, the American leader offered Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a “special token of affection,” which consisted of a “key to the White House and a key to our hearts.”

Trump referred to Netanyahu as an “amazing leader.”

“You have the key to the hearts of the people of Israel,” responded Netanyahu, “because of all of the things you have done for the Jewish state.”

Prior to the signing, Trump referred to “at least five or six additional countries” that “want to see peace [with Israel], they’re tired of fighting.” Trump was likely referring to Saudi Arabia, Oman, Sudan and Morocco.

There’s going to be peace in the Middle East,” added Trump. “I believe Iran wants to make a deal”

Trump noted that he “cut off payments to the Palestinians … they speak badly about Israel and the U.S., I said ‘Why are we paying them?'”

Netanyahu issued comments during the meeting with Trump, declaring, “Israel is breaking out to the entire world. The tyrants of Tehran are isolated, I hope they’ll come around to the circle of peace.”

More than 700 guests attended the White House signing ceremony on Tuesday, which was held on the South Lawn.

The peace agreements were signed by Netanyahu and the foreign ministers of the UAE and Bahrain, with Trump serving as a signing witness to the agreements, which have been dubbed the “Abraham Accords.”

Trump referred to the exchange of ambassadors and the opening of embassies in all of the nations.

At the ceremony, Netanyahu lauded the treaties for “bringing hope to all of the children of Abraham!”

He referred to this as a “new era of peace.”

Israel signed individual bilateral agreements with the UAE and Bahrain, in addition to a document signed by all three nations, which formalize official diplomatic relations between the Jewish state and the two Gulf nations.

The Palestinians rejected the peace treaties, with Palestinian Authority officials repeatedly calling them “a stab in the back by fellow Arabs.

According to a poll cited by the Associated Press, “Fifty-three percent of Palestinians described the [Isrel-UAE-Bahrain] agreement as a ‘betrayal’ while 17% said it marked the ‘abandonment’ of their cause. To that end, small pockets of Palestinians on Tuesday “trampled and set fire to pictures of Trump, Netanyahu and the leaders of the UAE and Bahrain,”

Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan calls for rapists to be hanged or chemically castrated after a woman was 'gang-raped at gunpoint in front of her children'

Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan has called for rapists to be hanged or chemically castrated after a woman was reportedly gang-raped at gunpoint in front of her children, last week.

Khan made his comments while demanding 'exemplary sentences' for the woman's rapists, saying he would sentence them to be hanged at the site of the attack, but admitted that hanging them might lead to Pakistan being punished by the EU, so it might be better to chemically castrate them instead.

Speaking on Pakistani TV on Monday September 14, Khan said: 'What I think is that there should be chemical castration, I have read it is happening in many countries.

'The way murder is graded: First-, second- and third-degree. This should also be graded, and for first-degree (sex crimes) there should be castration.'

According to Mail Online, the attack took place in the early hours of Thursday last week after the woman's car broke down on a highway near Lahore when she ran out of petrol.

While still in her car, she locked the doors and called for assistance, but a group of men smashed her window and dragged her out before they attacked her.

After the rape ordeal was over, the woman was also robbed.

Police arrested 15 men last week but said none of them were involved in the rape. Officers have since named two primary suspects as Shafqat Ali and Abid Malhi in the case.

Shafqat was taken into custody on Monday, with police saying his DNA matched samples found at the scene, and he has confessed to the crime.

PDP asks US to extend visa ban to family members of individuals that rigged Bayelsa and Kogi governorship elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the United States government for imposing a visa ban on individuals found guilty of undermining democracy and the electoral process in Nigeria.

The US government on Monday, September 14, announced the decision to impose a visa ban on any individual found guilty of rigging the 2019 governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi state, as well as anyone found guilty of undermining democratic practices in the building towards the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo state. Read here.

In a statement released today, September 15 by its National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said the visa ban should be extended to the family members and assets of such persons. The party also enjoined the European Union and the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to also take a queue from the US government and issue a visa ban on anyone that works against democratic processes in Nigeria.

The statement in part reads

Quote:Our party enjoins the United States Department of State to include family members and assets of such anti-democratic agents who have destroyed the credibility of our electoral.

Our party urges the United States to also invite the European Union as well as other nations, particularly the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia, to impose similar sanctions on electoral violators, who are bent on destroying our democracy.

The PDP further demands an extension of the ban to the families as well as confiscation of assets of such individuals to serve as stronger deterrent to protect innocent Nigerians who are left to bear the brunt of the misdeed of such unpatriotic persons.

This Visa ban, if taken across the globe, would be a final warning to the leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as compromised security and INEC officials, being used by the APC to perpetrate electoral violence and manipulations.

It is instructive to note that this announcement by the US, which reinforces the determination for resistance in Nigeria, is also an unambiguous cautionary to the sacked national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, the APC governorship candidates in Edo, Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his Ondo counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, over their plots to use violence to undermine the sanctity of the Edo and Ondo state governorship elections.

Our party asserts that the position of the US Department of State is a confirmation that 2019 general elections, the November 2019 Kogi governorship election, as well as other elections under the Buhari regime were massively rigged with unrestrained violence against the people and rampant manipulations by the APC and their compromised security agents.

The world is aware of how our compatriots were killed and maimed in Kano and various parts of our nation in the 2019 elections; how collation of results were compromised by relations of APC candidates and how compromised security operatives were used to frustrate the will of the people.

Without saying, Nigerians know the individuals who unleashed violence to rig the November 2019 Kogi state governorship election; who deployed thugs and security agents to shoot and kill voters, cart away ballot boxes, used police helicopter to fire tear gas on Nigerians, burnt an innocent woman, Mrs Salome Abuh, alive, altered election result figures to make themselves winners.

The US ban is therefore a firm support to our stiff resistance to plots by Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu, who have been overheating the polity in Edo state with serial attacks on other political parties while assembling thugs, cultists, fake policemen as well as their ‘tigers and lions” who they publicly instructed to invade polling centers to unleash violence and undermine the electoral process.

In Ondo, Nigerians are already aware of how the self-confessed APC militant and former APC chairman in the state, Isaac Kekemeke, boasted that the APC will use violence to rig the October 10 election and that Governor Akeredolu was behind the violent political attacks rocking the state.

It is instructive to note that after Kekemeke’s boast, INEC facility in Akure, Ondo state capital was set ablaze, leading to the destruction of not less than 5141 card readers meant for the election were destroyed.

Furthermore, Nigerians know the faces of INEC and security officials used as political mercenaries to manipulate elections in Kogi, Ekiti, Osun and other states. Our party vehemently rejects the deployment of same individuals to Edo and Ondo.

The presence of such persons is an invitation to crisis as the people of Edo and Ondo will use every means available and allowed in a democracy to resist them.

Our party charges INEC and all security agencies to note that the world is watching and as such strive to act by the rules, knowing that a shameful end awaits those who undermine the will of the people.

The PDP, in commending the United States, urges Nigerians, particularly in Edo and Ondo state to remain at alert and strengthen their resolve by voting and firmly defending their votes from the polling and collation centers to the final declaration of results, with the determination to unbridle the instrument of resistance to anybody, anybody at all, who attempts to undermine their will at any level of the process.

NBA: Buhari’s Minister, Malami set to lose SAN title, as lawyers move against AGF

on
 September 15, 2020
[Image: Abubakar-Malami-SAN.jpg]

Lawyers in the country have begun a move to strip the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami of his Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, title.

This is following Malami’s amendment to the rules of professional conduct for legal practitioners (RPC), 2007.

The AGF is said to have removed the requirement for the NBA stamp and seal on court processes.
The lawyers accused the Minister of taking the decision without proper consultation and creating room for non-lawyers to submit court processes.

The AGF took the decision barely a week after a splinter group known as the New NBA emerged from the Nigerian Bar Association.

The group had written a petition to Malami, asking his Ministry to recognise it as a decision making body of lawyers in the country.

The New NBA is mostly a group of aggrieved northern lawyers who were angered by Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s removal from the list of speakers in the 2020 NBA conference.

The lawyers are calling for Malami to be stripped of SAN in the petition started on Change.org by Izu Aniagu and titled “Sign to strip Nigeria’s AGF, Abubakar Malami the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.”
The petition added:

“Since his assumption of office as the Attorney-General of the Federation has continued to go rogue, from his disobedience to court order, to his lackluster prosecution, to his outright failure to prosecute, to allegations of corruption and bias against his person, to usurpation of office, to shielding of suspects, to his general dereliction of duty.

“This time, the AGF has decided to take his imprudence to top-notch by unilaterally deleting the provisions of the Rules of Professional Conduct which provide for stamp and seal as well as bar practicing fee for government lawyers. The AGF does not have such power. Section 12 (4) of the LPA gives the General Council of the Bar power to make any such amendment and make other decisions concerning the NBA.

“There is no record of any meeting convened by the  Attorney General of the Federation who is the president of The Bar Council.

The AGF took the decision alone and his actions constitute a threat to the rule of law. His action is totally shameful and is underserving of a lawyer in the rank of a Senio Advocate, let alone a Chief Law Officer of the federation.”

As at yesterday, 973 lawyers have signed the petition to strip Malami of SAN title.

Soyinka backs Obasanjo’s claims, says Nigeria is close to extinction

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has backed claims made by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, that Nigeria is more divided under President Muhammadu Buhari than ever before.

Soyinka made his stance known in a statement released on Tuesday titled, “Between ‘Dividers-in-chief’ and Dividers-in-law,”.

He said although he was not a fan of Obasanjo, he supports the duty of calling attention to the issues of the nation

“Nonetheless, I embrace the responsibility of calling attention to any accurate reading of this nation from whatever source, as a contraption teetering on the very edge of total collapse.

“We are close to extinction as viable comity of peoples, supposedly bound together under an equitable set of protocols of co-habitation, capable of producing its own means of existence, and devoid of a culture of sectarian privilege and will to dominate.” The Prof. said

The Presidency had in a swift rebuttal of Obasanjo’s allegations, insisted that Buhari has continued to promote nation-building and the unity of Nigeria.

Quote:African makes history as first elected member of Cologne’s City Council

On Sunday 13 September, millions voters went to the polls in towns and cities across North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, to vote for Lord Mayors, Mayors, Councillors and the Integration Councils.

Many candidates of African origin participated at the elections. Results are now coming in. Dr John Emeka Akude, a Nigerian-born political scientist, was elected member of the Cologne City Council (Stadtrat). He made history by becoming the first Councillor of African origin in Cologne, Germany’s 4th biggest city with about 1 million inhabitants.

Reacting to Akude’s victory, Rahab Njeri, the only other African-origin candidate who took part in the election in Cologne said though she was not elected but all African-descendant inhabitants of the city were winners with the victory of the Nigerian-born politician. Both ran on the platform of Klima Freunde (Friends of the Climate).

Other results that have been released show that several African candidates won elections into the Integration Council (Integrationsrat) in their cities and towns, including Kevin Uguru in Essen, Pastor Lumbu in Dortmund and Elizabeth Kaneza in Aachen.

Integration Council – in some cities also known as Ausländerrat or Ausländerbeirat (Foreigners’ Advisory Council) – is the official representative organ of the residents of foreign origin in a city, municipality and district.

The main task of the Council is to represent the interests of the foreign-origin population and, above all, to advocate for integration and equality between foreign and German residents at local level.

Comprehensive results of elections into all the Integration Council in the state will be announced on Wednesday.

Sunday’s election in North Rhine-Westphalia is seen as a test for next year’s federal elections. Exit polls suggest the CDU with 36.2% of the popular votes emerged the overall winners in the municipal elections, followed by SPD (23.7%) and Greens (19.1%).

The management of Arik Air has announced the resumption of normal flight operations after Monday’s disruption by some workers unions.

Mr Adebanji Ola, the Communications Manager of Arik Air announced the resumption in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.

According to Ola, all Arik Air’s early morning flights for Tuesday, Sept. 15, operated in and out of Lagos on schedule, and all other flights for the day will operate as scheduled.

Mr Innocent Atasie, Chairman, Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Arik Air Branch, told NAN that the strike was put on hold based on the request of Capt. Musa Nuhu, the Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), who asked for a meeting with the union.

He mentioned that the outcome of the meeting with the Director-General would determine the next line of action.

DAILY POST recalls that Aviation Unions, on Monday, shut down the operations of Arik Air for non-payment of salaries.

The unions that included the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) claimed that Arik Air has since April not paid its workers after placing 90 per cent of its workforce on compulsory leave.

Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello, are also among those affected by the latest US sanction, it was gathered.

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna on the other hand had his own visa ban extended.

He has been banned from entering the US since 2010 over a graft case.

According to US officials, more Nigerian politicians may be included on the visa ban list after the Edo governorship election if they are involved in electoral malpractice.

He has been banned from entering the US since 2010 over a graft case.

According to US officials, more Nigerian politicians may be included on the visa ban list after the Edo governorship election if they are involved in electoral malpractice.

Those affected by the latest visa ban have received notification by email and or text messages, it was learnt.

A statement by spokesperson for the Department of State, Morgan Ortagus, on Monday said those issued visa bans received the sanction for undermining democracy in Nigeria.

It reads, “In July 2019, we announced the imposition of visa restrictions on Nigerians who undermined the February and March 2019 elections. Today, the Secretary of State is imposing additional visa restrictions on individuals for their actions surrounding the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa states elections and in the run up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo states elections.

“These individuals have so far operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and have undermined democratic principles.

“The Department of State emphasises that the actions announced today are specific to certain individuals and not directed at the Nigerian people. This decision reflects the Department of State’s commitment to working with the Nigerian Government to realise its expressed commitment to end corruption and strengthen democracy, accountability, and respect for human rights."

The Presidential Candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 General Elections, Atiku Abubakar, has urged the people of Edo State to cast and defend their votes for Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Quote:The democracy that we enjoy today was bought at a great price. We can only deepen and sustain it by respecting the sanctity of the ballot and necessary review of our electoral processes.

As the great people of Edo State go to the polls to elect their governor this weekend, they need to be provided with a secured environment to cast their votes and be assured that their votes will count.

I urge all duly registered voters of conscience and who truly care about the wellbeing of Edo to turn out enmasse to cast and defend their vote for @GovernorObaseki.

Abuja-Kaduna train allegedly attacked by bandits

An Abuja-Kaduna train reportedly suffered a bandit attack on Monday September 14.

Some social media users who shared the story, said the attack went on for 20 minutes before the security operatives on the train repelled the attack.

Facebook user Hassan Mohammed wrote;

Quote:BRAZEN Vs. BRAVE

My colleagues were met with shock of their lives today as bandits brazenly attacked and opened fire on the Abuja-Kaduna train. They said, the fight went on for 20 minutes. But our brave security apparatus attached to the train did well in repelling them.

May we never suffer such torment. May Allah protect us from us.

Michael Ilesanmi And Angela Deem Wedding Photos: She Says She Can't OBEY HIM

Michael Ilesanmi and Angela Deem of 90 Day Fiancé recently had their wedding in Lagos, Nigeria and there was a mild drama at the wedding reception.

Everyone takes their places, and Angela walks down the aisle toward her future. Michael is wearing a purple suit and waits for his bride on the other side of the aisle. They come together, and Michael unveils his soon-to-be wife. Michael says his vows first, and Angela gets a little teary during his part.

Angela was emotional when Michael said his vows to her at the Minister's prompt. However, when it was her turn, she wasn't comfortable with making certain promises.

When it’s Angela’s turn, she starts to repeat the words to the vows. However, when the person performing the ceremony says, “to obey,” Angela reacts. “What?” she asks. It’s repeated to her again, and she seems unsure of how to reply. “Obey what?” Angela asks. “And obey who?” Then Angela laughs, and says the words, albeit almost inaudibly. They get married.

Her act caused a mild tension at the wedding as guests were surprised at her utterance and waiting for the next line of action.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER

HE’S WITH YOU AND IN YOU

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you (John 14:16-17).

The comforting and soul-lifting words above were spoken by Jesus prior to His ascension. He knew the disciples would miss Him; so He said, “Relax! I’m going to the Father, and I’ll ask Him to send you the Holy Spirit (another Comforter). When He comes, He’ll live in your heart, and you won’t have to look for me or feel my absence. Instead of walking in the streets with you, I’ll walk in the streets in you.” Glory to God!

Jesus fulfilled His promise and the Father sent the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost (read Acts 2:1-4). Now that you’re born again, you never have to look for Jesus; you never have to cry, “Lord, where are you?” He’s in you now!

That means the presence of God is in your heart! I don’t know what your perception of God and Christianity has been prior to now; but know this, if you’ve received the Holy Spirit, you have God inside you. No wonder John said, “Ye are of God little children, and have overcome “your adversaries,” because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Hallelujah!

Irrespective of what you may be facing in your life, there’s a new revelation; it’s the revelation of divinity in you! Paul called it the mystery which was hidden in the past generations, but is now made manifest to God’s saints, which is “...Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:26-27).

Adam didn’t know it. Abraham didn’t know it. Isaac didn’t know it. None of the patriarchs of old knew this mystery. This is greater than “Emmanuel” (God with us); this is Heaven in you! The fullness of the Godhead fully tabernacled in you, and expressed through you! Blessed be God forever!

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the great honour and blessing of having Christ live in me by the Holy Spirit; by virtue of His indwelling and abiding presence, I’m infused with divine energy and supernatural wisdom to do the will of God, and live triumphantly over the devices of the evil one and the corrupting influences in this world. Hallelujah!

#TALKINGSESSION

Dear Heavenly Father, I lift my hands to You today in holiness, to bless and adore You for Your glory, majesty, and grace!

Thank You for the great love wherewith You’ve loved me, and thank You for the glorious life You’ve given me in Christ Jesus.

I rejoice in You today, knowing that You’re the glory of my life and the solid rock on which I stand. I thank You for the understanding of Your Word granted me even now; thank You for making all grace—every favour and earthly  blessing—come to me in abundance, so that I may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need, be self-sufficient, possessing enough to require no aid or support, furnished in abundance, for every good work.

Your grace is at work in me today; therefore, everywhere I go I am highly favored, for I carry the presence of God. I grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The beauty of God in my spirit is bursting forth on the outside in an undeniable fashion. Excellence, glory, virtue, and success are the hallmarks of my life.

I thank You for the glorious presence of Your Spirit in and around me, and the heavenly atmosphere of bliss and victory that surrounds me.

Thank You for Your divine presence that shields me from harm and protects me against evil and violence.

Your Word has made me wise unto salvation, and the forces of success, prosperity, and divine health are let loose in my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

Protesters Cook In Front Of Shell In Rivers As They Protest Sacking Of Kinsmen

Quote:Drama as aggrieved youths reportedly blocked the entrance of the multinational company in Rumubiakani, Port Harcourt in protest against sacking of 11 indigenous contract workers at the premises of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) on Monday, Igbere TV reports.

The youths who are residents of four host communities Rumuozelu, Oginigba, Rumuomasi and Rumubiakani said that the decision of the oil giant to lay off 11 indigenous contract workers from the communities left them without any form of income for the past 5 months.

Igbere TV also learnt that the youths arrived well prepared with cooking pot, firewood, plates and set out to prepare food in anticipation of a long stay.

One of the organizers of the protest and Vice President of Rumuozelu Youths Association, Chinedu Ogwutum said that the youths decided to stage the protest to express their displeasure over the action of the company.

According to Ogwutum, SPDC had cited dip in revenue as reason for the sack of their kinsmen. But the youths are not buying it.

“What is happening here is as a result of the members of the community that were dropped from work and we are not happy about it. They have been at home for the past 5 months without any salary. About 11 of the workers from this community were dropped, including the youth president. They used to work at the pipeline on contract. We have tried to discuss with them but there has been no resolution till today. The only reason they gave was because of the state of the economy,” he said.

Ogwutum also lamented that SPDC has not deemed any graduate from the four host communities qualified to be employed as staff.

“We are the host community and there is no Shell staff among us. People from other communities are still working at the same pipeline our own workers were dropped from. This is injustice,” he said.

However, calm was restored after leaders of the protesters met with some management staff where the youths issued a week ultimatum for the reinstatement of the 11 sacked indigenous workers or an even bigger protest will be held next week.

Four arrested for allegedly beating policeman to death in Ogun (photo)

The police in Ogun state have arrested four men for allegedly beating a yet-to-be-identified police officer to death in Dalemo, Sango, in the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, September 13.

In a statement released on Monday, September 14, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the four arrested men identified as Jelili Ismaila, 22; Amidu Bankole, 34; Elijah Samson, 36; and Moses Proboye, 34, were reportedly hired by a truck driver who had an argument with the deceased police officer and his colleague

Oyeyemi said the deceased constable and one other were escorting their principal from Idah in Kogi State to Lagos State when the incident happened.

Quote:“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased officer and one other escorted their principal from Idah in Kogi State to Lagos State. On their way passing through Sango Ota, a truck driver, Jelili Ismaila, drove dangerously and almost pushed their vehicle off the road.

While trying not to hit the vehicle conveying the officers, the truck entered a pothole as a result of which its tyre got punctured.

This made the two policemen to come down and caution the truck driver to always be mindful of other road users. But the driver accused them of being at fault, thereby mobilizing hoodlums who attacked the officers and their principal with weapons and beat the deceased to a coma.

Having realised that the policeman may not survive the attack, the driver and his hired hoodlums took to their heels. But luck ran out on four of them when the DPO and his men on a tip-off stormed their hideout and got them arrested, while four others escaped.

The remains of the deceased officer have been deposited at the General Hospital Ota mortuary.” the statement read

Oyeyemi added that the police has launched a manhunt for the other fleeing suspects.

Quote:Kainji Hydroelectric Dam has experienced a sudden burst which could lead to blackouts in some Nigerian states, Daily Times gathered.

The embankments of the Kainji dam, one of Nigeria’s hydro-power stations caved in after the opening of the four spillway gates to free surplus water caused by heavy rains.

On Sunday, the management, Mainstream Energy Solution Limited, opened the points but discovered that the dam was impounding more water than it should.

“We opened the 4 spillway gates because of the water pressure. Now, it is hitting the embarkment and will continue to expand if not reinforced. The embarkment is falling, rocks are falling into the water”, an official disclosed the information

The dam, which produces hydroelectric power, is located in the New Bussa town of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

Authorities and the firm have shut down the hydro-power station for repairs and will take about 760MW of electricity off the national grid.

Abdulrasaq Jakada, a top official of the Emir of Borgu’s palace said the monarch has been informed of the development.

Customer Shoots Man Dead Over Shawarma, Flees

Quote:A yet-to-be-identified suspect is on the run after allegedly shooting one Kayode Oloruntoba in the stomach at a food joint in the Alagbado area of Lagos State on Friday.

Efforts to save Oloruntoba by some good Samaritans, including his friend, Kazeem Okikiola, proved abortive, as he died.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Okikiola on Friday , September 11, went to Avid Bar at Alagbado to buy Shawarma and called Oloruntoba to join him.

While waiting for the Shawarma seller to attend to him, it was learnt that Okikiola got into an argument with another customer, who also wanted to buy the dish.

The argument, which centred on who should be served first, however, degenerated into an altercation and out of annoyance, the suspect left the spot, entered his car and drove away.

A few minutes later, Oloruntoba met Okikiola at the spot and while they waited for the Shawarma, the suspect reportedly returned, brought out a gun and shot in the direction of the two friends.
The bullet was said to have hit Oloruntoba in the stomach, while the suspect fled.

A resident, who identified himself as Chinedu, said the suspect mistakenly shot the 35-year-old.
"He actually thought that he shot the person (Okikiola) he argued with. Unfortunately, the bullet hit the wrong person. Immediately, the suspect got back into his car and drove away,” he added.

Another resident, Seyifunmi Akinola, said a native doctor assisted in removing the bullet from Oloruntoba’s body, adding that he died while being rushed to hospital for further treatment.

Akinola said, “Immediately the incident happened , his friends rushed him to the Merit Hospital where he was rejected because there was no police report.
He was later referred to the General Hospital, Otta, Ogun State, where he was cleaned up and transferred to the General Hospital in Abeokuta.

“But instead of taking him to Abeokuta, they took him to a native doctor to remove the bullet from his body and returned him to the General Hospital in Otta, but he was rejected. He died on the way to another hospital.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said six suspects, including Okikiola, were being questioned over the incident.

Adejobi said, “After the shooting, his friend and witness, Kazeem Okikiola, who had earlier called Oloruntoba to join him at the Shawarma spot, refused to report the incident to the police, but rather took the deceased to a herbalist in Ogun State, where they extracted the pellets from his body.

“He later took Oloruntoba to his brother’s house in the Ipaja area of Lagos State, where he died. As a follow up to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, directed that police detectives be mobilised to hunt the suspects linked to the killing.

“During the investigation, the owner of the Shawarma spot, Chimezie Amaechi; the deceased's friend, Kazeem Okikiola; the Manager of the Avid Bar, Olayinka Oyedokun, and his friends, Femi Victor, Taiwo Morokola, and Omole Wasiu were arrested. These suspects are giving useful information that can assist the police in the investigation.

“Meanwhile, the CP, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, to take over the case for discreet investigation.”

Horror! Young man arrested with fresh head of a child at Uganda Parliament, says it is 'gift' for the Speaker

What can only be described as a horror movie played out on Monday September 14th at the Parliament building in Uganda when a 23-year-old man was arrested as he attempted to deliver a child’s head to the Office of the Speaker.

It is said that the alleged fresh human head was wrapped in form of a gift that was meant to be delivered to the Speaker, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga’s office.

The man whose identity is not yet disclosed was intercepted at the parliament gate opposite the National Theatre by security while trying to access the speaker’s office.

When he was asked by security where he was going, he said he was delivering a gift to the speaker. This prompted the security officers to ask what was in the gift parcel and on opening it, they reportedly discovered that it was a child's head.

They quickly apprehended the man and briefly detained him at the parliament police offices before whisking him away.

It was gathered that when he was asked why he did such thing, the young man calmly informed them that it is a gift to the speaker. His intention to deliver a fresh child’s head to the office of the Speaker is still uncertain.

The man is currently detained at Kibuli. Police CID Headquarters as investigations begins. He was later on paraded with the human head that he was carrying. It is not yet established whether he was sent by someone to make the delivery or if he is mentally ill.

Police officers at the security checkpoint who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the incident and said that the messenger was a smart, composed man, with a face mask.

Helen Kaweesa, the assistant director of communications and public affairs says that her office is yet to receive an official report from the parliament security detail and police on the reported incident.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, who also confirmed the incident, said that they are still investigating the incident.[Image: 5f5fb104dd6c4.jpg][Image: 5f5fb128c9e30.png]

US imposes visa ban on individuals involved in election rigging in Kogi, Bayelsa, Edo and Ondo states

The United States has imposed a visa ban on individuals for their actions in the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa State elections and in the run-up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo State elections.

US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said the visa restriction will also include individuals involved in negative practices in the run-up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo State elections due to their conduct in the run-up to the poll.
The US didn't reveal names of the individuals banned.

A statement signed by the spokesperson for the Department of State, Morgan Ortagus, on Monday, September 14 reads;
“In July 2019, we announced the imposition of visa restrictions on Nigerians who undermined the February and March 2019 elections.

Today, the Secretary of State is imposing additional visa restrictions on individuals for their actions surrounding the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa State elections and in the run up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo State elections.

“These individuals have so far operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and have undermined democratic principles,” the statement read in part.

“The Department of State emphasises that the actions announced today are specific to certain individuals and not directed at the Nigerian people.

This decision reflects the Department of State’s commitment to working with the Nigerian government to realise its expressed commitment to end corruption and strengthen democracy, accountability, and respect for human rights,” the statement read.

The US said it remained a steadfast supporter of Nigerian democracy and condemned all acts of electoral violence, intimidation, or corruption that undermined the democratic process.

“As the Edo and Ondo State off-cycle elections near, we urge all stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission, the political parties, and the security services, to uphold the tenets of democracy and facilitate genuinely free and fair elections, conducted in an appropriately transparent and non-violent manner,” the US stated.

TRACKING__As Nigerians continue to endure unprecedented misery due to the country’s current fuel scarcity, the Federal Government has blamed the crisis on the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

As gathered by Daily Times, the government said Jonathan was to blame because his government never included sufficient fuel subsidy provision in the budget for 2015.

This was even as it clarified that from the immediate past administration it inherited the vandalisation of the pipelines, rendering it impossible even to transport the fuel to the respective distribution points in the country.

Speaking to State House Correspondents, Monday, after the rescheduled emergency Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, alongside Minister of Budget and Planning, Udoma Udo – Udoma, insisted that the fuel scarcity being experienced now was as a result of inadequate provision for fuel subsidy in the ongoing year by the Jonathan – led regime.

“One of the reasons for the fuel scarcity was the inability of the last government to make adequate provision for fuel subsidy.

“We do face some other logistic problems but majorly, we are paying for the sins of the last administration .”

‘What I will be telling Nigerians is that what we met on ground is such that we are paying for the sins of the last administration. I am being very serious. You remember that about two weeks ago, we had to go to the National Assembly for a supplementary budget of ₦674 billion.

“Of that figure, ₦522billion was for arrears of fuel subsidy which was incurred as far back as August last year.

“The solution is what you have seen us doing. The first thing we have done now is to make sure that unlike before when the marketers used to import the major percentage of the fuel. NNPC has been involved in the importation because some of the marketers had stopped importing for a couple of months.”

“If you see any fuel anywhere today, it is imported by the NNPC. We also inherited the vandalisation of the pipelines which has made it impossible for us to even transport the fuel. In tanks today we have 14 days reserve and off-tank we have 10 days reserve.

“The issue is not non-availability of the product it is the distribution, because of pipelines that have been vandalised and the gridlock in Lagos. It takes about five days for anybody to take fuel with tanker in Lagos.

“As two days ago this matter has been resolved. The Mosinmi Pipeline has been secured and it has lead to the improvement in the distribution,” he said.

Nigeria’s debts may rise to N34 trillion in Q3
September 14, 2020

Nigeria’s public debts may continue its quarterly increase to hit about N34 trillion in the third quarter ending September 30.

Data provided by the Debt Management Office (DMO) had shown that the nation’s public debt had risen by 8.3 per cent or N2.38 trillion to close the second quarter 2020 at N31.01 trillion. The second quarter increase was due to combined foreign and domestic loans during the period.

The Federal Government had in the second quarter secured N1.21 trillion or $3.36 billion budget support loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). the government also issued new domestic conventional bonds valued at N666.76 billion in addition to non-interest Sukuk bond of N162.56 billion. It also issued promissory notes of about N255.42 billion to settle claims of exporters.

In many reviews at the weekend, leadng investment banking groups said Nigeria’s public debts will continue on the upward trajectory in the third quarter.

In one review, Cordros Group indicated that Nigeria’s public debt may continue on the upward as the government struggles with declining revenue amid bloated expenditures.

The report indicated that with Nigeria expected to access more foreign loans from the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB) and Islamic Development Bank (IDB) as well as continuing domestic issuances, public debt stocks may rise by 4.8 per cent to about N32.50 trillion by September ending. Other reports indicated that the loan portfolio may close around N34 trillion citing devaluation effect.

The loans during the third quarter include multilateral loans of $1.5 billion from the World Bank, $211.5 million from AfDB and $113 million from IDB. Domestic issuances, including the monthly Federal Government of Nigeria Savings Bond (FGNSB) are expected to top N588.9 billion while state governments may close the shelf with borrowings of about N200 billion.

“Faced with the severe impact of COVID-19 on all economic units, the government has grappled with low revenue in the face of increasing expenditure to limit the impact of the pandemic on the economy,” Cordros Group stated.

Data provided by DMO showed that external debts accounted for 36.65 per cent of Nigeria’s total public debt by the end of the period ended June 30, 2020. This consisted of 31.68 per cent for the Federal Government and 4.96 per cent for the state governments. Domestic debts accounted for 63.35 per cent. Of the N19.65 trillion domestic debts, the Federal Government accounted for N15.46 trillion while states held N4.19 trillion.

DMO said it also expected the national debts to increase as it continues its domestic issuances. The agency noted that additional promissory notes might be issued in the next quarters while state governments’ borrowings may increase

Many analysts have criticised the crowding effect of government’s domestic bond issuances but the DMO has repeatedly noted the developmental impact of government’s sovereign issues on the debt capital market, including breaking new markets in alternative debt and climate issuances.

At the last count, Nigeria’s total outstanding non-sovereign bonds stood at about N1.03 trillion, including N630 billion in outstanding corporate debt issues and some N400 billion outstanding sub-national bonds.

In terms of debt servicing, total payments in second quarter 2020 rose 42.6 per cent to N416.4 billion, driven by both domestic and external debt. Federal Government’s domestic debt servicing burden rose by 45.6 per cent to N312.8 billion from N214.8 billion in 2019. External debt servicing cost increased by 13.8 per cent to $287 million in second quarter 2020 from $252.3 million in second quarter 2019.

“The increase in debt servicing burden suggests that Federal Government’s debt service to revenue ratio would continue to worsen, especially given weak revenue growth and further currency devaluation to N381.00 per dollar in third quarter 2020,” Afrinvest Securities stated at the weekend.

In its report, analysts at Afrinvest Securities noted that the share of external debt in total debt for the Federal Government has now reached 38.9 per cent, nearing government’s target of 40.0 per cent.

According to analysts, the rise of external debts to almost 40 per cent should ordinarily prevent the issuance of further external loans given the strong chance of further currency adjustments, but there may be sustained rise in government’s external debts due to additional budget support of $2.1 billion yet to be disbursed by World Bank, AfDB and the IDB.

“Looking forward, we expect more domestic debt issuances to bring down the share of external debt and lower devaluation risk. On a brighter note, we believe the removal of energy subsidies-electricity and petrol, could herald a new fiscal era which would ease Federal Government’s expenditure burden, freeing up resources for investment in critical sectors,” Afrinvest Securities stated.

Missing Nigerian student, Caleb Obari found dead in Ukraine weeks after his parents issued plea to help find him

Caleb Obari, the 21-year-old Nigerian graduate who went missing in August after attending a yacht party with friends, has been found dead in Odesa Oblast, Ukraine.

Caleb's body was found on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, near the coastline in Chornomorsk. According to the police, the cause of death is yet to be established and his case is currently being investigated as an accident.

Recall that weeks ago Caleb's parents released a video begging for help in finding their son who attended a Yacht party with friends after they were invited by a woman only for them to return without him. They stated that the friends and the woman should be questioned about what happened to their son (read here).

According to a volunteer group called Rescue Platform 911, Obari was invited to a party on a boat by Vera Topalova, owner of a BDSM-themed bar Iznanka in Odesa. Out of about 10 passengers on the boat, Obari was the only foreigner. The boat set sail from the Sauvignon Yacht Club in Odesa and went four kilometers out from the coast but returned without Obari.

The deceased friend who waited for him after the party was over said that when the boat arrived without Obari, other passengers gave his personal belongings, including a mobile phone, to him without any explanation of what happened.

Few days after Obari’s disappearance, Topalova in a Facebook post, admitted to inviting him to the party but said he went swimming in the sea together with other guests and went missing which indicates he had drowned since he couldn’t swim.

After his disappearance, friends took to Twitter to trend the hashtag #JusticeForCaleb and a protest was held near the Nigerian Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kyiv on Aug 31.

Lawyers sign petition to strip AGF Abubakar Malami of SAN rank over ‘controversial amendment’

Minister for Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has ignited the wrath of Nigerian lawyers following his amendment to the rules of professional conduct for legal practitioners (RPC), 2007.

Malami reportedly removed the requirement for the NBA stamp and seal on court processes. He was accused of taking the decision alone and creating room for non-lawyers to submit court processes.

The amendment occurred less than a week after a splinter group known as the New NBA wrote a petition to Malami, asking to be recognised by the Federal Government. The splinter group of mostly northern lawyers had emerged after Governor El-Rufai was removed from the list of speakers in the last NBA conference.

In the petition started on Change.org by Izu Aniagu and titled “Sign to strip Nigeria’s AGF, Abubakar Malami the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria”, Malami's alleged wrongdoings which led to the move to strip him of his SAN title (highest rank for lawyers in Nigeria) were also listed.

It read;

Quote:“Since assumption of office, the Attorney General of the Federation has continued to go rogue, from his disobedience to court order, to his lackluster prosecution, to his outright failure to prosecute, to allegations of corruption and bias against his person, to usurpation of office, to shielding of suspects, to his general dereliction of duty,” the petition read.

“This time, the AGF has decided to take his imprudence to top notch by unilaterally deleting the provisions of the Rules of Professional Conduct which provide for stamp and seal as well as bar practicing fee for government lawyers. The AGF does not have such power. Section 12 (4) of the LPA gives the General Council of the Bar power to make any such amendment and make other decisions concerning the NBA.

“There is no record of any meeting convened by the The Attorney General of the Federation who is the president of The Bar Council.

The AGF took the decision alone and his actions constitute a threat to the rule of law. His action is totally shameful and is underserving of a lawyer in the rank of a Senio Advocate, let alone a Chief Law Officer of the federation.”

As at the time of filing this report, 973 lawyers have signed the petition.

Mailafia honors DSS' third invitation, says 'if I perish I perish'

Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Obadiah Mailafia has honoured the invitation of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Jos, the Plateau state capital for the third time.

The economist turned politician had gotten the invitations over his claim of a northern Governor being one of the commanders of Boko Haram.

Mailafia arrived the DSS office with some of his supporters who held up placards with different inscriptions calling for an end to his interrogation by security agents on Monday September 14.

Speaking at the DSS office, he said he honored the invitation to show that he is a law abiding  citizen of Nigeria and to clarify whatever issues the security officials had with him.

Mailafia said;

Quote:“I do not know why I have been invited yet again. This has nothing to do with politics. I spoke as a citizen of this country, who loves the people of this country.

“I am the voice of thousands of voiceless people; Muslim youths have taken me as their voice, Christian youths have taken me as their voice; thousands of people have been killed in this country, in Borno, in Yobe, in Adamawa, in Katsina, in Daura, in Birnin-Gwari, in Zamfara, in Niger, in Southern Kaduna, in Benue, in Plateau, all over the country.

“Even the other day, a pregnant woman was killed in Bayelsa. I am the voice of the holy martyrs, and if I perish, I perish.”

Nigerians are suffering, Jega, Onaiyekan tell Buhari

 September 14, 2020

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)

Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja
A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega; and a former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, have told the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), that Nigerians are facing “double suffering” due to insecurity and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

They therefore called on the President to do everything possible to address the security challenge even if it means sacking service chiefs.

They stated this in a statement titled, ‘Mr. President, Governors: The Time for Dialogue is NOW’ on Sunday.

The statement was signed by Jega, Onaiyekan, Gen. Martin Agwai, Amb. Fatima Balla, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, Mrs. Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode, Dr. Nguyan Feese, Dr. Usman Bugaje and Dr. Chris Kwaja who are all members of the Nigeria Working Group on Peace-building and Governance.

The statement read in part, “Nigeria, like the rest of the world is battling the coronavirus pandemic. However, citizens in Nigeria are facing double the suffering because they also have to contend with rising insecurity and violence across the country.

“The Nigerian government must immediately address the rising insecurity, if it is to succeed in the fight against the pandemic. A recent USIP-commissioned survey in Nigeria found new linkages between COVID-19, instability, and conflict.

“In particular, the survey found that victims of recent violence are less likely to trust the government’s coronavirus response measures compared to those who have not experienced violence.

They subsequently made recommendations on how the Nigerian government could strengthen its efforts to manage the pandemic by addressing the rising insecurity across the country.

“Kidnapping for ransom is an acute concern across Nigeria. The North-East is witnessing resurgence in Boko Haram activity, and thousands of people are internally displaced by banditry across rural communities in the North-West.

“Criminality in rural areas further complicates the situation by undermining food security, as many farmers have been unable to go to their farms for months for fear of losing their lives,” the group said.

They called on the President to initiate a process of dialogue to address the multiple acts of violence from inter-communal and ethno-religious conflicts.

The group said the National Council of State should initiate the dialogue process at the national level while the Nigeria Governors Forum would ensure it reaches the grassroots.

They said the crisis between herders and farmers had claimed thousands of lives and deepened ethnic polarisation but few persons had been prosecuted.
The group therefore called on the Federal Government to order the reinvestigation of all recent major incidents of farmer-herder violence.

They asked the government to sack the service chiefs if it would ensure that things improve.

“There is a growing public consensus that the current leadership of our security agencies have failed woefully, and that our Commander-in-Chief has so far refused to act. This cannot continue.

Mr. President, you must show more concern and do what is necessary to improve the effectiveness of our security agencies, even if it means replacing the current leadership of our security agencies,” the group said.

They called on the President to stop paying lip service to police reform, adding that it is not enough to recruit police officers from the community but there is a need to be trained and re-orientated towards building community partnerships and promoting durable peace in the conduct of their duties.

Quote:Striking workers of three tertiary institutions in Lagos State on Monday kept to their threat of embarking on an industrial action to press home the payment of the new minimum wage by the state government.

The staff unions of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), Epe, this morning locked the main entrance to their institutions disrupting academic and administrative activities.

While at the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu, the workers complied and are on strike but did not lock the gate.

Among those affected by the lock out include the Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof Olarenwaju Fagbohun and his management team, final year students and bank workers.

At MOCPED, the staff unions locked the gate early in the morning. The Provost and his management who were locked outside had to hold meeting with unions leaders in front of the gate.

Report from LASPOTECH indicate that the workers resolved to embark on strike after meeting twice with the management.

At AOCOED, members of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) opted out of the strike while the congress of the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) congress is scheduled for this afternoon to give directive to members to comply with the decision of Joint Action Committee (JAC) for workers of the four tertiary institutions in Lagos to embark on strike.

Recalled that union leaders of the four tertiary institutions met on Wednesday, September 9, with state government officials and discussion ended in a deadlock.

JAC says civil servant in Lagos State have been enjoying the new minimum wage since April 2019 and also got paid arrears same year.

Missing girl, 9, found dead in man's wardrobe before angry neighbours 'kill suspect' in South Africa

A 9-year-old South African girl who disappeared while playing with friends on 1 September 2020, has been found dead.

The body of Boipelo Sesele was found in a man's wardrobe after a 12-day search before neighbours then allegedly killed the murder suspect.

Free State police spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele said Sesele’s body was found not far from her home on Saturday afternoon.

“It is alleged that the children were playing in the street when they sensed a bad smell from a shack not far from Boipelo’s home and alerted community members who’ve been assisting to look for the child.

“They went to the shack and found it locked, forced entry and opened the wardrobe where the smell was coming from and found the body of Sesele, then alerted the police.”

Makhele said while at the scene, the owner of the shack surfaced and he was attacked by the community.

“The police tried to intervene, but were also attacked, ultimately, they managed to take him out of this volatile situation, but was later declared dead by the emergency medical service,” said Makhele.

The discovery came amid a massive 12-day search for the girl by concerned community members.

A member of the search team and community leader, Mr. Thebe, told SABC News that he was approached by a child around 16:00 on Saturday who reported a bad smell coming out of the shack before Sesele’s body was found.

“I opened the door, the shack was just in a mess, it was all filthy there. Then I went to check the wardrobe. As I was going to the wardrobe, her hand was showing from outside. She was seated inside the wardrobe. She was decomposed. It broke me, but I thank God we have finally found closure.”

Sesele was reported missing by her mother, Lynette, who said she was last seen playing with friends in the street not far from her home on 1 September 2020 at about 1pm.

At the time she went missing, Lynette alleged that she had gone to visit a friend in Phomolong.

On her return, Lynette said she couldn't find her child, and when she went to enquire from her friends, they told her they saw Boipelo talking to a tall man before they left for the tuck shop and never returned again.

Two suspected mobile phone fraudsters arrested in Lagos (photos)

Two suspected members of a syndicate who specialize in advertising expensive mobile phones at cheaper prices on a Nigerian online marketplace to lure their buyers to places where they fraudulently dispossess them of their money in exchange for fake mobile phones, have been arrested by the police.

The suspects, Chukwu - Emeka Ogbona (45) and Olabode Kehinde (34), both mobile phone technicians at the Computer Village, Ikeja were arrested at Olowu Street, Ikeja in separate incidents last Wednesday, September 9.

The duo, who are members of the same syndicate, advertised Iphone X, a phone valued at N240,000 for N155,000 to lure buyers into their nets.

Quote:''The suspects, along with other gang members, lure the buyers to locations around Olowu Street and Computer Village,  Ikeja, where they fraudulently collect money from the buyers after showing them the real phone but within a twinkle of an eye substitute it with fake Iphone X.

The suspects thereafter flee the scene leaving their victims stranded.''the police said in the statement released

When interrogated, the suspects disclosed that apart from advertising on the Nigerian online marketplace, they also fraudulently sell fake mobile phones on the streets of Computer village to unsuspecting buyers as well as return fake or paper money to their victims after collecting the real money from them.

One of the suspects, Chukwu Emeka Ogbona, said
Quote:''The leader of the gang is Ibrahim. He advertised on jiji.com and supply us with the real Iphone X and the fake Iphone X. The real Iphone X is N240,000 while the fake is an android phone made to look like an Iphone X. It is N30,000.

The Iphone X was advertised for N155,000. The buyer negotiated for N120,000. Knowing what I want to sell to him, I encouraged him to meet me at Olowu after changing meeting locations twice to ensure that we were not being baited by the police.

I showed him the real Iphone X for him to confirm it while the fake was in my back pocket. I took the real one back from him again for us to settle our bargain.

Meanwhile, I had arranged with other gang members to come around and distract the attention of the buyer so as to create room for me to swap the real Iphone X with the fake version.
.
This I did and we shared the victim’s N120,000. Unknown to me the police baited and arrested me the third day of the fraud.

Times are hard. I stopped doing it before. I need money to feed my family. That is why I came back into it. We are many doing it. We call it street hustling. I wont go back to it if released” Ogbona said

The second suspect, Olabode Kehinde was arrested by the Decoy Team of RRS for collecting N100,000 and an Iphone 6S from one Obinna, who he lured to Computer Village after agreeing to swap them for an iPhone X but ended up fraudulently giving him a fake iPhone X.

He also confessed to be a member of the same syndicate. He added that they are many on the streets of Computer Village.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu advised Lagosians to be wary of suspected fraudsters masquerading as phone dealers with a view to exploiting them of their hard-earned money, adding that they should ensure they obtain a receipt with traceable addresses for mobile devices phones they are buying.

He warned Lagosians to stop buying fairly used phones whose sources they don’t know.
