Oyegun, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that egocentric politicking could be overcome.

“You and your exemplary Deputy have shown that with good work and principled leadership, the ills of overbearing and egocentric politicking in our nation can be overcome.”

He noted: “Your very significant victory marks a watershed in Edo and indeed Nigerian politics and so places additional responsibilities on your shoulders.”

Ondo election: Why I didn’t pick Akeredolu’s deputy as running mate – Jegede

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Ondo governorship election, Eyitayo Jegede, has revealed why he did not pick the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, as his running mate.

Agboola had defected to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a bid to secure a governorship ticket, but lost out to Jegede in the primaries.

The Deputy governor eventually left PDP for Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), where he emerged as the flagbearer.

Many observers had expected Jegede and Ajayi to team up against the APC candidate and incumbent Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

But Jegede announced Gboluga Ikengboju as his running mate.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Jegede said, “Ajayi chose not to be my deputy. His ambition is to be a governor under a political party. He left the APC, came to PDP, defeated in our primary, and went to ZLP.

“I took opinions from virtually everybody. People chose who became my running mate. When a choice is made we must respect it. One should not allow his ambition to override the choice of the people.

“All the policies that we are fighting, the pains we want to end are the product of Akeredolu and his deputy. He was in our party (as a member) for just six weeks. He is a very powerful person and humble, you cannot do away with that.”

Seek immediate and unconditional reversal of the hike in petrol price from the current N160 to N86 price of 2012, and reversal of the increase in electricity tariffs and VAT.

Security agents comprising police, Department of State Security and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps have stopped some Nigerians from staging a protest against the increase in the prices of petrol, electricity and Value Added Tax in the country.

The protest led by a civil society organisation, Joint Action Forum, started as a rally in front of the premises of the Nigerian Union of Journalists along Farm Center Road on Tuesday morning amidst heavy security presence.

In a statement by Chairman of the group, Dr Musa Bashir, and the Secretary, Abba Bello Ahmed, the Joint Action Forum called on the Nigerian Government to reverse the price of fuel from N160 to N86 and also the increase of electricity tariff and Value Added Tax.

"Immediate and unconditional reversal of the hike in petrol price from the current N160 to N86 price of 2012, and reversal of the increase in electricity tariffs and VAT.

"The government has the responsibility to make our refineries work and build new ones in order to ensure availability of petroleum products at cheaper and affordable prices.

"Re-engineering of the security apparatus to ensure organised crimes such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery are reduced to the barest minimum is curtailed."

The protesters called on organised labour to ensure that the agreed minimum wage of N30,000 was implemented in the country.

Atiku Reacts, Dismisses US Surveillance Report
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-23-2020, 10:42 AM - No Replies

Quote:Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has denied reports that he and some members of his family are under the United States of America watchlist, describing same as “recycled false allegations.”

Media reports surfaced on Monday to the effect that the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, FinCEN, an agency of the United States Department of Treasury, has flagged some transactions linked to the top politician as suspicious, in its surveillance of money movements within the international system.

Reacting to the media report, the 2019 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a statement signed by his media aide, Paul Ibe, said neither him nor any member of his family has breached any law, locally or internationally.

The statement reads: “My attention has been drawn to recycled and regurgitated lies about the person of Atiku Abubakar.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Atiku Abubakar is not under any US watch list, neither has he been charged, or will ever be charged by the United States Justice Department or any other in a foreign jurisdiction.

“It will be recalled that these recycled lies were re-unearthed just before the February 23, 2019 Presidential election, and to put paid to them, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, applied for and received a US visa, whereupon he embarked on a visit to the United States on January 17, 2019. He stayed at a hotel just miles to the United States Department of Justice.

“Atiku Abubakar in the course of that trip was also received in audience, by officials of the United States Government.

“These ‘new’ reports are a desperate gambit to recast these discredited accusations. They are meant to divert the attention of Nigerians from the recent statement by the Secretary of State of the United States, Mr Mike Pompeo, announcing visa and travel bans for certain unnamed but notorious individuals.

“Moreover, the timing of this report, less than 24 hours after the Edo state gubernatorial elections, should give some thought to thinking people.

“And considering the season that we are in, more of such jaundiced stories seeking to discredit Atiku Abubakar would come. However, it needs to be reiterated that the former Vice President and every member of his family keeps a clean business portfolio that has nothing to do with government resources and in conformity with local and foreign laws of respective countries.”

Man puts semen in colleague's water bottle and honey jar after she rejected him

A man has been convicted after he put semen in a colleague's water bottle and honey jar.

Stevens Millancastro, 30, carried out the vile acts after his co-worker rejected his advances after he asked her out on a date, a court heard.

The California man also put semen on the woman's workspace, as well as in a bottle of honey she used for her tea.

Millancastro was convicted on assault and battery charges on Monday, September 21.

The colleague had filed a complaint against him to the HR department. She also asked her boss to tell Millancastro to stop staring at her, according to prosecutors.

However, when he did not stop, she filed the complaint.

Upon arriving to work, the woman found a "cloudy substance" in her water bottles on several occasions.

Her boss then agreed to place a surveillance camera facing her desk, and when she arrived one morning to find a "milky white substance" on her keyboard the footage was checked.

According to Mercury News the footage showed Millancastro had waited until the woman left before smearing his semen from a tissue on to her keyboard.

His semen was also found in the water bottles and jar of honey, say investigators.

The woman's testimony stated that Millancastro made her feel "very, very uncomfortable."

She said she was "disgusted" to find the bodily fluid on her personal property.

The crimes occurred in La Palma, California, between November 2016 and January 2017.

A sentencing is due to take place on October 6. Millancastro could face up to two years and six months in prison, and he will be required to register as a sex offender as he committed the crimes for sexual purposes according to the judge.

The Aslem Ojezua-led faction of the Edo All Progressives Congress, APC, has dispelled rumour that plans are underway to expel Adams Oshiomhole, a former National Chairman of the party from the party.

Ojezua told The Nation that the rumour making the rounds that the APC faction has written the national body of the party informing it of their plans to expel to end Oshiomhole’s membership of the ruling party.
Ojezua insisted that the APC was yet to meet to review the entire election, adding that such plans are not known to him.

According to Ojezua, “We have not met. We are meeting on Thursday to review the entire situation. That is when we will make our decision known by way of formal briefing. We have not met. We shall meet on Thursday.”

A tweet, allegedly by Ajezua on Tuesday had read, “I have written to the APC National headquarters that I and all the party chairmen down to the ward level have all signed the petition to completely expel Adams Oshiomhole from our great Party.”

Incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeated his main opponent and candidate of the APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in the last Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

Prior to the election, Obaseki left the ruling APC for the PDP following a faceoff with his predecessor, Oshiomhole which led to his disqualification by the party due to alleged certificate issues.

Akeredolu: I Won’t Rest Until Ondo Wins Battle Against Unemployment

Quote:The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Monday, commissioned a modern chocolate factory in the ancient city of Idanre in Idanre Local Government Area of the state.

The factory, though initiated by his predecessor in partnership with a United States-based firm, Spagnvola Chocolatiers, was completed by the Akeredolu led administration.

The factory, estimated to be worth #9billion, will produce 2.8 million tons of Chocolate per annum.

The governor said his dream for Ondo “is to be a state that doesn’t rely on allocation from the federation account to pay salaries and fund infrastructure before the year 2024”.

He said, “I will work to hand over a State that does not rely on allocation to pay salaries by the year 2024.

“I want to change our narrative. Enough of Ondo being tagged as a civil service state. We are a hidden wealth of Nigeria. We shall explore all our potentials.

“Let me assure all the good people of Ondo State that this factory shall run independently of politics. It shall be run in line with global best practices.

“To guarantee a constant supply of cocoa beans to the factory, the Oda Cocoa Plantation, which is over 1,744 Hectares, has been resuscitated and made functional with over 250 Cocoa farmers upscaling daily production from the farm

“I will never rest until we win the battle against unemployment in our state through industrialisation, agriculture, and technology.

“To consolidate our foothold as the number one cocoa producer in Nigeria, this administration has established a modern cocoa farm at Ijugbere Camp in Ilale, Owo on 8,400Hectatres of land with the capacity to accommodate 2,000 youths who would be resident on the farm with a minimum of four Hectares of Land per person.”

In their separate remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture and Agro Business, Pastor Akin Olotu, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment and Development, Mr. Boye Oyewumi, said the factory was already moribund before the emergence of the current administration

Quote:The news coming out of Akoko in Ondo State, where the thugs of the All Progressives Congress’ Rotimi Akeredolu, under his supervision, ran amok in front of the Oba’s palace, shooting and destroying the vehicles of his rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party, requires the attention of all men of goodwill, especially President Muhammadu Buhari.

History must not repeat itself, as this ugly incident draws my mind back to 1983 when another Owo man was governor like Akeredolu in Ondo State. Those who were around then would shiver when they think back and remember the public disorder that became known as ‘wetie’.

A piece by Bayo Olupohunda in The Punch of November 8, 2016, captures the issue.
“The Second Republic, which was barely four years and three months old, was truncated when the military struck again in December of 1983 to bring to an end another corrupt and violent civilian regime. Once again, Ondo State, which had been carved out of the old Western Region as one of the five states created by former military ruler, Yakubu Gowon, erupted into an orgy of violence during the election of that year. One of Awolowo’s protégés, Adekunle Ajasin, was contesting re-election under the umbrella of the UPN. His deputy, Akin Omoboriowo, who had also fancied his chances had defected to the ruling NPN.

“He was backed by the federal might of the Shehu Shagari-led government. At the election, Ajasin had a clear lead, but the NPN, intent on taking the state from the UPN, had put Omoboriowo in a clear lead as a result was being announced. Then, the inevitable happened. The widespread protests that followed the announcement of Omoboriowo turned violent, and the state became a war front. Political thugs and supporters of both parties turned the state into a theatre of war.

“There were fears and apprehension as people loyal to one of the parties were targeted and killed. Houses were torched. The security agencies were powerless in a bid to rein in the perpetrators of the violence. In the end, Omoboriowo was driven out of the state and spent some time in exile. The 1983 violence was a repeat of the Western Region crisis. The effect of the violence was instant. It provided a further excuse for the military to put an end to the Second Republic that was already wracked by monumental corruption.”

Ondo is different in the Yoruba nation. They have demonstrated the ability to act their intention. They are brave, independent and fearless. Whosoever allows Ondo to go the way of violence risks too much. Mr President, you have a duty to read the riot act to all parties. Ondo must not go to the dogs. Rotimi Akeredolu, lose if you will, and go in peace, that you may salvage whatever is left of your battered image.

Ologbondiyan: Buhari's Eight Years Is A Passing Phase; Nigerians Should Endure
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-23-2020, 09:40 AM - No Replies

Quote:Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in this interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, speaks on the just concluded Edo governorship election, Nigeria at 60, restructuring and other issues. Excerpts:

Your party, the PDP just secured victory in the just concluded governorship election in Edo state. How do you feel?

I feel so elated for a hard battle won. It is a collective victory for all of us. Like I said on my social media page, this victory is historic, the aroma is sweet and its lesson for political godfathers will last a lifetime. The people’s power will always prevail. Once again, congratulations to Governor Obaseki, his deputy, Phillip Shaibu and the good people of Edo state.

Nigeria will be celebrating 60 years of independence as a sovereign nation on October 1st, how far do you think we have come as a nation?

I think we might not have been able to reach the expectations of our founding fathers. However, prior to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, I think we were progressing as a people. Painfully however, the last five years has expanded the divisive tendencies in our nationhood. It is shocking that under a watch of our President that served the Nigerian Army and rose to the position of Major-General, our nation can become so divided to an extent that ethnic demands have overridden the bands of unity.

I don’t know how the Buhari administration will want to manage this and take us back to a united country. But like eminent Nigerians have said in the last few weeks, we have become much more divided than we have ever been in the last 60 years of our nation.

The Presidency, through Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media said the division in the country did not start under this government and that Nigeria has always been divided. What is your take on that?

I think Femi Adesina’s argument is far misplaced or maybe he did not understand the context of the question he was responding to. What Nigerians are saying is that there can be conflicts and divisions, but we have not had a President whose policy direction and approach to national cohesion has been this divisive. We have never had a President whose policies have demonstrated a huge division in our nation like President Buhari.

We are not saying there have never been grounds for people disagreeing or have challenges; after all, we have had a civil war. But what we are saying is that we have never had a leader, a President whose actions and policy direction has demonstrated a huge division in our nation like President Buhari. That is the question Femi Adesina ought to have responded to. It is disgusting and painful that a government that came into office on a mantra of change, saying that things were not going well under the previous administration and that if elected, they will come and repair the crisis area in our nation, to have allowed itself by the manner of the leadership it is providing for the nation. It is worthy of note that this division is affecting their policies.

How do you mean?

For instance, President Buhari said agriculture is the main focus of his policies. He also said that the youths should go back to the farm. But today, if you go and plant, Fulani herdsmen will come in and destroy your farmland. No matter what you do, you cannot get justice. We even have a situation where the Presidency said we should go and live with our neighbours. So, these are the tendencies that have become worrisome in the lives of our nation. We have never had a President whose policies is driven on the basis of where he comes from; a president whose policies of his administration can be manifestly seen that he taking side with a particular region of the country.

Will that encourage unity in our country? Will that foster the spirit of togetherness? All these actions have failed to enable us more than ever before to see ourselves as one Nigerian. Part of the legacy President Buhari must work towards leaving behind is that of a united Nigeria because no matter how Femi Adesina wants Nigerians to believe that the country has always been divided, it has never been this divided in the history of our nation.

Do you agree with former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s position on the state of affairs of the nation under President Buhari?

There is no Nigerian that has the love of this country that will not speak in the manner Baba (Olusegun) Obasanjo, Prof. Wole Soyinka and other eminent Nigerians have spoken. In whatever way you look at it or in whichever manner you want to ascribe the blame of our crisis, what Nigerians are saying is that we have never had it this worse under this administration.

When the presidency was attacking Obasanjo, our party counseled President Buhari to listen to the voice of wisdom. His approach to governance is to say the least, very disappointing. Those who packaged Buhari in 2015 gave Nigerians the impression that he was coming to make the difference and be the Messiah that Nigerians have been waiting for. Can any of them now in their clear conscience say they have been justified given what has happened in the last five years? They cannot, because the performance of the administration has been a disappointing one.

One major issue that has continued to dominate the political space is the restructuring of the country. The APC-led federal government has refused to implement the reports of the 2014 national conference but rather set up the El-Rufai committee on True Federalism which has already submitted the report. Why do you think the party has not done anything in that regard?

For us in the PDP, we did not for one day took the El-Rufai committee on restructuring serious. Part of the campaign that was made by the APC in 2015 was restructuring. They have not by any effort come close to their own promise. In whatever way you look at the administration, it has manifestly failed. If you make a promises, even if you can’t fulfill all, you can still walk around part of the promises and provide hope that even after you have left office, any office that is coming after you will be able to do part of what you have left behind.

The reality is that this APC government is not prepared for restructuring. They cannot deal with it and they cannot fulfill any promise. In a tenure of eight years, we have had this government for five years. By next year, politics will begin in full swing while governance will take the backseat. So, what is left for them to do.

The APC recently said Nigerians should calm down that restructuring has already begun. Are you saying the party is not sincere?

When you talk about restructuring, it appears to different people from different angle. There are those who believe in devolution of power as restructuring. To these ones, to restructure Nigeria, power must be taken from the centre and given to the states and local governments. There are others who believe that the 36 states and FCT is not working and as such, we must go back to regionalism; that is also restructuring.

There are those who believed that a bicameral legislature is too expensive and that we should go back to a unicameral legislature; that is also restructuring. There are those who believe that the states should be allowed to have their own police while there are others who believe that even the local councils should have their own police; it is still restructuring. There are those who believe that the traditional rulers should be given roles in the constitution in such a manner that they can look over their domains; it is also restructuring.

There are those who also believe that each state should be allowed to manage its resources and return a percentage of those resources to the centre, in order to enable the centre run its affairs. That is also restructuring. So, there are various ways of restructuring that Nigerians have expectations. In all these angles of restructuring that I have explained, which one can you point to that the Buhari administration has attempted to implement? None! So, as far as we are concerned in the PDP, we have seen the eight years of President Buhari as a passer-by years. We do not know in concrete terms what Nigerians will be able to point to after the eight years of his administration.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER.

LIVING IN CHRIST BY PASTOR CHRIS
OYAKHILOME.

So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him (Colossians 2:6 NIV).

On a certain day, as Jesus taught in one of the synagogues, He noticed a woman who was bent double; she couldn’t straighten herself. She had been in that condition for eighteen years. Then, Jesus said to her, “...Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God” (Luke 13:12-13).

Before we review Paul’s amazing submission in the verse above, let’s read what he said in the 20th verse: “Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances” (Colossians 2:20). Notice his amazing communication; he says the Christian doesn’t live in this world, in this natural plane of life. Where then does the Christian live? He lives in Christ!

Christ is the home and new environment of the one who’s born again. Notice 2 Corinthians 5:17; it says, “If any man be in Christ…”; Christ is a place. You’re not supposed to be affected, ruled or influenced by the rudiments of this world, because you live in a different environment. In that environment, everything is perfect; there’s no failure, weakness, defeat, sickness, disease, poverty or anything of darkness. We only have God’s glory and righteousness.

Now you can better understand what we read in our opening verse; “just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him.” Living in Christ is living in the kingdom of heaven in the earth, with absolute mastery over circumstances, shielded, nourished and protected by His divine power. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Christ is my home; Christ is my life and Christ is my all! In Him I live, and move and have my being. His glory is all I see, have and experience. I’m not subject to circumstances; rather, I reign and manifest the glory and righteousness of Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN 23RD SEPTEMBER

I affirm that Christ is my wisdom; I have insight into mysteries and secrets; I know how things run, and I know how to tame the circumstances of life to conform to God’s perfect will for my life. Hallelujah!

Daily, I am propelled by the force of wisdom to say and do the right things, the right way, for God’s glory and purpose.

I am filled with all the fulness of God; thus, I am energized on the inside for the supernatural. I think and talk differently because the Word of God has renewed my thinking and given me the mind of Christ.

Hallelujah! I’ve been ushered into a life of unlimited possibilities, victories, and dominion by the wisdom of God.

There’s no regret or uncertainty in my path because I live in, and by, the Word! Everywhere I go, and in everything I do, divine wisdom is heard in my words, and seen in my actions!

I live and function in God’s perfect will, having insight into ther realitiesof the Kingdom. Hallelujah! God’s divine blessings and promotions are evident in my life.

My eyes are empowered to see the right opportunities because the wisdom of God has made His home in the quarters of my heart.

I function from the standpoint of advantage, power, and excellence. I live in triumph over circumstances, in total fulfilment, joy, glory, and dominion! Blessed be God!

You lack knowledge of what APC stands for — Buhari’s ex-aide, Kawu Sumaila hits Governor Uzodinma

Kawu Sumaila, the former SSA to President Buhari on National Assembly House of Representatives Matters has stated that Governor Hope Uzodinma cannot speak for the All Progressives Congress (APC) because "he lacks knowledge of what the party stands for."

Sumaila who averrred that Uzodinma did not know why APC was formed and was not there when the ruling party struggled in all its campaigns, told reporters in Kano that Uzodinma's alleged comment about the just concluded Edo state governorship election is "unjust".

The former SSA also called on the APC to look inwards and bring all those who brought the party into disrepute to book. Sumaila also accused former national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole of leading the party to near collapse.

He said;

Quote:“I believe that it is high time the APC looked inwards and bring all those who caused the party into disrepute to book. They should pay for their misdeeds, and this should be from 2019 to date.

“Anybody who does not go with the party’s position should seek relevant legal attention.

“Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma ranting was nothing but unjust, because in the first place, the governor lacked knowledge of how and why APC was formed and he cannot speak for it.

“Hope Uzodinma was not there when APC struggled in all its campaigns and I had never seen him following President Buhari anywhere during the campaigns, so he lacks knowledge of what APC stands for and he cannot speak for it.”

Nigeria’s Debts: How Each Nigerian Owes ₦155,000
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 09-23-2020, 08:36 AM - No Replies

Quote:The Debt Management Office, DMO, has announced that the total debt stock of Nigeria rose to N31 trillion as of June 2020.

It also said the debts are expected to rise this year following more debts to be sourced from international financiers.

As of March 2020, the debt was at N28.6trn comprising all debts of the Federal Government, the 36 state governments and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The latest debt total of N31.009trn debt is about $85.897 billion while that of March which was N28.628trn was about N79.303bn.

Cause of increase

The debt stock grew by N2.38trn or $6.59bn within the three months interval.

The additional increase was due to the $3.36bn Budget Support Loan from the International Monetary Fund IMF), new Domestic Borrowing to finance the Revised 2020 Appropriation Act, the issuance of the N162.557bn Sukuk, and Promissory Notes issued to settle Claims of Exporters.

The components of the debts are:

The multilateral debts are the highest of the stock of N16.360trn accounting for 51.97% of the total stock. The 10 agencies include IMF, World Bank Group, the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Eurobonds and Diaspora bonds.

The bilateral debts account for N3.948trn representing 12.54% of the debt stock taken from the international development agencies of China, France, Japan, India and Germany.

The third debt category is the commercial debt which is N11.168trn and represents 35.48% of the debt. This is the second largest debt after those of the multilateral agencies with Eurobonds and Diaspora bonds accounting for them.

Further rise

The debt stock will rise with the expected borrowing from the World Bank, African Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank which were arranged to finance the 2020 Budget Appropriation.

The Nigeria Customs Service was recently given part of these funds to automate its services at the ports, to the tune of $3.1 billion.

Most of the loans are long term facilities with the repayment beginning already while the fresh loans’ repayment begin from 2022.

On the Sukuk bonds and other domestic bonds, their maturity periods are often between five and seven years for the repayment.

What you owe

The ministry of finance recently said there are plans made for the loans to be repaid. So far in the 2020 budget, over N3 trillion or a quarter of the budget is dedicated to debt servicing, for repaying the debts.

At N31 trillion, every Nigerian from the over 200 million population owes the debtors N155,000 in debt.

This debt per Nigerian will rise further when the loans from World Bank, AfDB and IsDB comes in later this year.

A suspected internet fraudster, Felix Osilama Okpoh, who has been on the radar of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) following his alleged involvement in $6million internet fraud, has reported himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement released on Monday September 22, the EFCC Head, Media, and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said the commission had commenced an investigation into the matter.

He said Okpoh, alongside Richard Izuchukwu Uzuh, Alex Afolabi Ogunshakin, Abiola Ayorinde Kayode, and Nnamdi Orson Benson, were declared wanted by the FBI sometime in 2019 for their alleged involvement in a Business Email Compromise (BEC) scheme that defrauded over 70 businesses in the United States, of over $6million.

Uwujaren said the suspect allegedly provided over 40 bank accounts to his conspirators, which were used to receive fraudulent wire transfers from their victims totaling over $1million.

Quote:“He was, on August 21, 2019, indicted in the United States District Court, District of Nebraska, on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

“However, Okpoh, on Friday, September 18, 2020, turned himself in at the Lagos Zonal Office of the Commission in company with his parents, Col. Garuba Okpoh (rtd) and Chief (Mrs.) Justina Okpoh.

“Okpoh, during interrogation, said he made the move to surrender himself to the Commission out of respect he had for his parents and his resolve to be morally upright”.

Fuel Hike: No Going Back On Strike, Protest – NLC, TUC

Quote:The Nigeria Labour Congress has vowed to proceed with its planned strike and protest with effect from September 28 following the failure of the Federal Government to reverse the hike in electricity tariff and fuel price.

Rising from its National Executive Council meeting in Abuja a few minutes ago, the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, said the proposed action by the organised labour would proceed from next week.

He stated that the decision was unanimously taken by the chairmen of the 36 states and FCT chapters of the NLC.

Quote:TUC to join NLC in nationwide strike
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria has on Tuesday disclosed that it will join the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other the Civil Society allies to execute the nationwide strike which is to commence on the 28th of September.

TUC, after an exhaustive meeting held to review its mobilsation strategies to protest the fuel hike and electricity tariff, resolved that the Congress is going to work in collaboration with its sister Labour unions.

The TUC President, Comrade Quadri Olaleye, in a said: “Consequent upon this, the ultimatum which should expire by midnight of today 22nd September, 2020 has been shifted to 28th September, 2020 for effective and maximum effect. We want to use this opportunity to call on Nigerians, especially those in the informal sector to bear with us while the industrial action lasts.

“There is no need for the pains we bear. It is a needless one. They ask us to tighten our belts while they loosen theirs. Services are not rendered yet we are compelled to pay estimated bills. You will recall that this government during its electioneering campaigns in 2014 told the world there is nothing like subsidy. We were told that they will build refineries, all that are history now. We run a mono-economy and any hike in fuel automatically will have adverse effect on us yet successive government tow that path because they are not creative.

“As at today, about eight states are yet to commence the payment of new minimum wage and its consequential adjustment even though the president signed it into law on April 18, 2019. We have written letters to the governors and also engaged them in dialogue but all to no avail. Sometimes we wonder if these people have conscience at all.

“The Congress hereby appeals to all Nigerians to get ready for the unprecedented mass action against corruption, obnoxious policies, rape and other violent offences, breach of Collective Agreement, unemployment, etc. We also call on the USA, UK, Germany, Spain, etc. to support our struggle by placing indefinite VISA ban on our political leaders whose stock in trade is to loot and impoverish the masses and the country. We can no longer take it. Enough is Enough.”

Ex-Nigerian Minister Arrests Hotel Staff, Strip Them Naked For Allegedly Stealing N5,000

Quote:A former Minister of State for Education, Kenneth Gbagi, who is currently nursing a governorship ambition in Delta State in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, has arrested and charged four of his staff working in his hotel to court for allegedly stealing his N5,000, SaharaReporters has learnt.

It was reliably gathered that Gbagi last week Friday arrested the four staff working in Signatious Hotel, Warri, Delta State, after they were striped naked and photographed inside the hotel before handing them over to the police.

[Image: WhatsApp%20Image%202020-09-22%20at%2010....k=wkM8WGkM]

Our correspondent gathered that after dehumanizing the four staff, a male and three females, they were taken to the Ebrumede Police Station to be remanded in custody.

Speaking in confidence with our correspondent, a staff of the hotel revealed that his colleagues were arrested by the former minister over the alleged theft of the said amount.

He said, "My boss, former Minister of State for Education and owner of Signatious Hotel, Chief Kenneth Gbagi, arrested four of my colleagues working for him over the stealing of N5,000 from the hotel when actually the N5,000 was given as a gift to them by a guest because of their good behaviour."

While giving the names of the arrested colleagues as Gloria Oguzie, Victor Ephraim, Rosslyn Okiemute and Achibong Precious, the source said, "Before they were arrested by the police on Friday last week at the hotel, the four staff were stripped naked while they were photographed in the presence of the police.

"We learnt that the dehumanising treatment was instructed by our boss."

[Image: WhatsApp%20Image%202020-09-22%20at%2010....k=RZj0SHQi]

It was further gathered that the hotel management forcefully made some withdrawals from the bank accounts of the four staff through their ATM cards before the police took them away in a waiting van.

The four staff were charged before a magistrate court sitting in Effurun after four days of detention.

In a five-count charge, the police accused the suspects of conniving among themselves to steal monies ranging from N156,000, N110,000, N5,000 and N2,000 owned by Signatious Hotel and committed an offence punishable under section 516 and 390 (9), of the criminal code Law Cap21C Vol.1 Law of Delta State.

The four staff, it was learnt, were granted bail on Monday through the intervention of some anti-corruption and human rights activists, who decided to take up the matter.

Warri-based human rights lawyer, Omemiroro Maxwell Ogedegbe, who confirmed the story, said that the four staff were granted bail by a magistrate court sitting in Effurun, Delta State.

Akeredolu Commissions Chocolate Factory In Idanre (Photos)

Quote:Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, lhas commissioned the Sunshine Chocolate Factory in Alade Idanre, Idanre local government area of the state.

The factory a Public Private Partnership between Ondo State Government and a United States company, SPAGNVOLA CHOCOLATIERS, was established for the purpose of job creation and economic development of the state, using cocoa value-chain.

Governor Akeredolu said the occasion was remarkable in view of the fact that what his administration inherited from the immediate past government was described by the facility consultant contracted by that same government as not suitable for a chocolate factory as a result of lack of modern equipment which have now been imported by his administration.

Arakunrin Akeredolu said to make the Sunshine Chocolate Factory productive and sustainably profitable, the factory has been extricated from all forms of political control and influences.

To guarantee constant supply of cocoa beans to the factory which has initial processing capacity of about 28 Metric Tons of Cocoa to 2.8Million of Chocolate, Governor Akeredolu said the Oda Cocoa Plantation which is over 1,744 Hectares has been resuscitated and made functional with over 250 Cocoa Farmers upscaling daily production from the farm.

The governor said to consolidate its foothold as the number one cocoa producer in Nigeria, his administration has established a modern cocoa farm at Ijugbere Camp in Ilale, Owo Local Government Area on 8,400Hectatres of land with the capacity to accommodate 2,000 youths who would be resident on the farm with a minimum of four Hectares of Land per youth.

Russian president Vladmir Putin 'probably directing' efforts to interfere in 2020 election against Joe Biden - CIA assessment says

According to a new report by the Washington Post, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) secretly assessed in August that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his top aides "are aware of and probably directing Russia's influence operations" aimed at undermining Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and favoring Donald Trump in the 2020 election

The CIA compiled its August 31 assessment with input from the National Security Agency and the FBI using public, unclassified and classified intelligence sources, the Post reported.

"We assess that President Vladimir Putin and the senior most Russian officials are aware of and probably directing Russia's influence operations aimed at denigrating the former U.S. Vice President, supporting the U.S. president and fueling public discord ahead of the U.S. election in November," the first line of the assessment reads, according to the Washington Post report.

Former CIA officer Douglas London speaking to CNN in response to the report said that the agency's use of the word "probably" when concerning an issue of such importance means its "analysts are sufficiently confident based on their deep expertise to put their reputations on the line in making such a call."

"It means the intel is good enough that they're not guessing, but have enough pieces of the puzzle to confidently make out the image," London said.

US intelligence in August publicly accused Russia of actively interfering in the 2020 election.

"We assess that Russia is using a range of measures to primarily denigrate former Vice President Biden and what it sees as an anti-Russia 'establishment.'

This is consistent with Moscow's public criticism of him when he was Vice President for his role in the Obama Administration's policies on Ukraine and its support for the anti-Putin opposition inside Russia," William Evanina, director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, said in a statement in August.

Following the 2016 presidential election between Trump and Clinton, the US accused Putin in 2017 of directing election meddling efforts.

"We assess Moscow will apply lessons learned from its Putin-ordered campaign aimed at the US presidential election to future influence efforts worldwide, including against US allies and their election processes," US intelligence said.

Politician's son and two others arrested for allegedly circulating rape video of soon-to-be bride in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Hisbah Commission has arrested three people including a politician's son for allegedly circulating a video on social media while sexually assaulting a young lady.

According to reports, the victim was said to be scheduled to get married on October 17, but the marriage was called off as a result of the viral video circulated by the suspects.

Confirming the arrest to newsmen, the state Hisbah Commandant, Dr. Adamu Kasarawa, said the suspects would be handed over to the police for prosecution.

The mother of the victim told newsmen that the principal suspect who is the politician's son, sexually abused her daughter sometime in 2017 when she was 16 years old. She alleged that the suspect stored the video clips for three years with the intention of destroying her daughter’s life.

Quote:“Exactly on June 20, 2020, I received a call from Lagos on the circulated video of my nude daughter being sexually abused by Baffa Hayatu Tafida.
“The suspects shared the clips to my daughter’s suitor along with other online groups,” she said

The distraught mum said the wedding which was earlier scheduled for October 17 was canceled by the groom after Baffa released the phonographic video of him sexually abusing the girl.

She alleged that officials at the Department of State Services and the National Human Rights Commission in Sokoto refused to respond to her cry for justice until she lodged a complaint at the Hisbah commission.

The victim’s mother claimed that the father of the principal suspect had made attempts to induce her in order to drop the case, and threatened her on different occasions when she refused.

When contacted, Hayatu Tafida, the father of the principal suspect, confirmed knowledge of the case but denied inducing the victim’s mother or threatening her life.

Edo election: How my prophecies ensured victory for Obaseki – Primate Ayodele

The leader of INRI Evangelical spiritual church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has claimed that his prophecies about the Edo State governorship election ensured victory for Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Obaseki won the Saturday’s election against his closest opponent and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu with over 80,000 votes.

Primate Ayodele had consistently spoken out on issues around the Edo State election.
One of his prophecies was that there will be a fight between Obaseki and a former National Chairman of the APC Adams Oshiomhole that will affect his second term ambition with the APC.

He had also prophesied that Oshiomhole will not see 2023 as the national chairman of the APC.

He also said it was revealed to him that Obaseki was ordained to win the election but he only needs to work against manipulation

“Without mincing words, this is what the Lord said, Obaseki should be focused, do all the needful things, Obaseki will win, not Ize Iyamu, excepts APC rigs and anyone who rigs will die, just as I said COVID-19 will kill those who corrupted Nigeria,” he said.

In a statement to DAILY POST on Tuesday, Ayodele said his prophecy has “just been fulfilled as he put it but that it was worthy of note that the words put Obaseki on serious alert,” he said.

He added that “These prophecies also helped the people of Edo to have a direction of what God wants for them in the election, which in turn made them vote massively for Godwin Obaseki.

“It is evident that Godwin Obaseki worked seriously against every form of manipulation in the election, videos were seen where he was personally searching vehicles against stolen ballot boxes,” he said.

Serving NYSC member cries for justice after SARS in Anambra allegedly brutalized her

A serving NYSC member has accused officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State of brutality.

The corps member, whose name was given simply as Akinlabi to protect her identity, said the harassment began on September 17 when men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad broke into her compound while she was asleep and pointed a flashlight to her face while claiming to be looking for “yahoo boys”.

Narrating her ordeal to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, September 22, Akinlabi said, “On 17th of September 2020 by 2:00am, a team of people broke into our compound claiming to be SARS and searching for yahoo guys. They broke my window net, pointed their torchlight at my face while asleep and commanded me to open the entrance door for them.

“I was scared to do as commanded because I couldn't identify who they were, rather, I shouted and ran into the passage for help.

"On getting to the passage, I saw another set of people at the window threatening to deal with me if I did not open the door. As I continued to shout for help, one of my neighbours opened her door for me and I entered her room and was shocked as they still came to the window of the woman insisting that we must open the door or they would break the door.

“Some of them later broke into an empty room by cutting off the burglary and entered the passage. The others broke the burglary of the room we were, opened the door for others to have access to the room. They started assaulting me by slapping and hitting me with cutlasses and sticks.

"At this point, I was practically naked and had to plead with them to allow me to put on my clothes which they eventually allowed but violated my privacy as I was forced to dress up in their presence. The beating continued after that and I got handcuffed like a common criminal for an offence I knew nothing about. They threatened to lock me up for 48 hours for refusing to open the door for them.

“I and another guy in the lodge were taken to their van and they asked us to stand in the rain for hours. They insisted on us giving them money for fuel before we could be released. We were released when they realised we were not ready to give any money.”

Akinlabi said she reported the incident to NYSC officials in the state and was asked to make an official report at the police station, but she claims her report was falsified and never shown to her.

She told the publication: “The following morning, I called my LGI first and my PPA principal and they both asked me to go to the police station to make a report. On getting there, one officer initially refused to take my complaint until she was informed that the DPO was aware of the incident.

“In spite of this, she insisted on writing my statement by herself and in her own way. Please note that I never wrote or signed any statement at the police station as the officer refused to allow me to do so,” she said.

Akinlabi, who says she currently fears for her safety and that of her family, called on the Inspector-General of Police, rights groups and the international community to investigate the brutal invasion of her residence and assault against her and bring the officers involved to book.

She also asked the IGP to see to it that she is duly compensated for damages done to her physically and on her properties in the process of the crime committed against her while serving her country.

Russian cult leader who claims he is the reincarnation of Jesus is detained by special forces in Siberia

A former traffic cop who now leads a sect in Siberia, claiming he is Jesus Christ, has been detained.

Russian special forces in the early hours of today, September 22, staged a special operation to detain him, Daily Mail reports.

Sergei Torop - known as Vissarion - and his closest aide Vadim Redkin, a former rock musician, were reportedly detained and flown away under armed guard.

Torop, 59, is a former Red Army conscript and traffic policeman who claimed he was reborn in 1990 as the literal reincarnation of the son of God.

Russian agents carried out a large military-style operation with four helicopters and dozens of heavily armed troops storming the remote compound called Sun City.

The operation appeared to involve the Russian National Guard, a force under the command of Vladimir Putin, but also involved the FSB security service.

The Russian Investigative Committee said the sect was being probed for using "psychological violence" causing some followers "serious harm to their health."

Sergey Torop and two other sect leaders Vadim Redkin and Vladimir Vedernikov were detained in the raid, said a statement.

Insecurity Under Current Service Chiefs Unbearable –Borno Elders

The North East leaders, under the aegis of Coalition of North East Elders for Peace and Development, have demanded decisive actions to end Boko Haram terrorism.

While expressing concern over the security situation across the country, the coalition said “the excuses being tendered by the Service Chiefs”, were no longer tenable.

The Chairman of CNEEPD, Zana Goni, in a statement titled, ‘We are tired of excuses, sack Service Chiefs now,’ called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to rejig the country’s security architecture with a view to improving the security of Nigeria.

The statement reads partly, “The worsening security situation in the country is further reinforcing the urgent need to inject new hands with fresh ideas to handle the nation’s security architecture. We have seen that the security situation under the current service chiefs has reached an unbearable state.

“There is no denying the fact that at this moment, the entire nation is distressed by the incessant mindless killing of our citizens and pillaging of defenseless communities by insurgents, bandits and kidnappers. There is no denying the fact also that these have resulted to indescribable agony, anguish and torment to the Nigerian citizens.

“And following these mentioned above, we, the Coalition of North East Elders for Peace and Development, in the strongest terms, restate the call to President Muhammadu Buhari to honor the resolution of the National Assembly and positions of majority of Nigerians to immediately remove the service chiefs and bring in new hands to effectively confront the security challenges starring us in our face as a nation.”

Following his victory at the September 19th Governorship election, the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has sent a warning to his erstwhile godfather, Adams Oshiomhole.

The Governor who was re-elected on Saturday said on Tuesday that his governrment will have no mercy on his predecessor if he continues to misbahave.
He made the statement while appearing on Arise TV on Tuesday.

When asked about reports that there is a plan to “run Oshiomhole out of the state” he responded that no such plan exists, but the response of his administration depends on the behavior of Oshiomhole.

“I don’t have any plan, but if he continues to behave the way he always does, if he continues to be disruptive, if he continues to fund his lions and tigers, and tries to create problems for us here, then we will not have any mercy.”

He added that he has no plan to move to the Senate at the expiration of his tenure.

“After the next four years, i’ll seek admission and go back to school to teach. I don’t have any wishes to go to the Senate,” he stated.

Two suspected robbers killed, set ablaze by angry mob in Calabar

Angry mob last night killed and set two suspected armed robbers ablaze in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The incident happened along the popular Marian road, opposite Lion’s park, around 9pm on Monday, September 21.

It was gathered that the suspects, said to be in their teens, were part of a 3-man gang that allegedly attacked a popular super market named Sunnytex and were about to escape when someone raised alarm.

According to an eyewitness, residents around Sunnytex Supermarket noticed suspicious movements, raised an alarm and went after the armed youths immediately they fled. Narrating how they captured the robbers, the witness said,

"When we noticed that the boys were robbing, we decided to lay siege and accost them, we were not afraid because we discovered they had locally-made gun.

“Immediately they came out from the supermarket the mob went after them, and raised the alarm, funny enough, one of them too joined the mob in shouting “thief ooo” not knowing that he has been marked already.

“Two ran through a nearby street while the one who joined us in raising alarm wanted to escape via Rabana roundabout, he was apprehended and lynched. The other was also lynched and set ablaze."

Bobby Shmurda denied parole, to stay in prison till 2021

Popular US rapper, Bobby Shmurda will have to remain in prison till 2021 after being denied parole.

Though his parole hearing was originally set for mid-August until it was pushed back for one month, he was denied the opportunity following his interview last Tuesday September 15 with the Board of Parole.

Bobby was denied release and given a hold until the maximum expiration of his sentence on December 11, 2021. TMZ reported that no reason was given for this.

The rapper has been behind bars for about six years (two years in city jail, followed by four in state lockup) after his arrest in December 2014. Prosecutors said he was part of an East Flatbush–based gang, GS9, which engaged in a “protracted turf battle with multiple other rivals,” such as Brooklyn’s Most Wanted, from January 2013 to October 2014. Twenty-one people were charged in the indictment.

He was sentenced to seven years in prison after accepting a deal to plead guilty to 4th-degree conspiracy and 2nd-degree criminal weapons possession.

Back in 2018, Shmurda dialed into This is 50 for a phone interview where he spoke about his possible release in 2020. He said at that time;

Quote:"When I get out, we're going to f--- everything up. I got two years, 2020. You know how that sh-- goes. I like to see real n---as doing their thing with more constructive sh--. I hope a lot of motherf---ers learn from me."

September 22, 2020

The international oil benchmark, Brent crude, declined by about five per cent on Monday, as rising coronavirus cases stoked worries about global demand and a potential return of Libyan production bolstered oversupply fears.

Brent, against which Nigeria’s crude oil is priced, fell by $1.63 to $41.52 per barrel as of 8:15pm Nigerian time as of Monday.

Crude oil followed other equities and commodities markets in turning risk-averse on Monday as rising COVID-19 infection rates in Europe and other countries prompted renewed lockdown measures, casting doubt over economic recovery, according to Reuters.

“We’re seeing more depressing news on jet fuel demand. We’re looking for a much softer market. The economic picture doesn’t look as rosy as it did before,” said Gary Cunningham, director of market research at Tradition Energy in Stamford, Connecticut.

Oil prices pulled back amid mounting concerns that an increase in coronavirus cases could cut demand.

More than 30.78 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus, a Reuters tally shows, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was on Monday pondering a second national lockdown, while cases in Spain and France have also climbed.

Workers at Libya’s major Sharara field have restarted operations, two engineers working there said, after the National Oil Corporation announced a partial lifting of force majeure. But it was unclear when and at what level production might restart.

Meanwhile, a Suezmax tanker is making its way to Libya’s Marsa El Hariga terminal, according to Refinitiv Eikon shipping data.

Goldman Sachs stuck to its forecast for Brent to reach $49 per barrel by year-end and $65 by the third quarter next year, despite the Libyan developments. Barclays raised its 2020 Brent outlook to $43 a barrel and $53 next year.

FG slashes spending on JV oil assets by 62%

September 22, 2020

Amid the coronavirus-induced sharp drop in its revenues, the Federal Government reduced its spending on oil and gas assets being developed through joint ventures with private firms by 61.83 per cent in July.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, which represents the Federal Government in the JVs, has an obligation to make cash call payment for the development of the assets.
The NNPC’s cash call payment fell to $94.84m (N34.14bn) in July from $248.48m (N89.45bn) in the previous month, the corporation’s latest data showed.

The nation’s oil and gas production structure is majorly split between the JV (onshore and in shallow waters) and the Production Sharing Contracts in deepwater offshore.

Under the JV arrangement, both the NNPC and the private firms contribute to the funding of operations in the proportion of their equity holdings and generally receive the produced crude oil in the same ratio.

The NNPC said the total export receipt of $122.44m was recorded in July as against $378.42m in June.

“Of the export receipts, $67.45m was remitted to the Federation Account while $54.98m was remitted to fund the JV cost recovery for the month of July 2020 to guarantee current and future production,” it added.

In addition to the dollar allocation of $54.98m to the JV cash call account, the naira portion of N14.35bn ($39.86m) was transferred to the account from domestic crude oil receipts in July, according to the NNPC.
In June, the dollar allocation to the JV cash call account was $154.68m while the naira portion was N33.77bn ($93.80m).

The national oil firm also said it remitted the sum of N70.15bn to the Federation Account Allocation Committee.

Production from the JV assets has declined over the past few years, partly due to funding constraints occasioned by the NNPC’s inability to fulfil its cash call obligations as and when due.

 treatments could prevent cancer deaths’

The JVs accounted for 33.20 per cent of the average daily production of 1.69 million barrels recorded in June, according to NNPC data.

The federation crude oil and gas lifting is classified into equity export and domestic, both of which are lifted and marketed by the NNPC and the proceeds remitted into the Federation Account.

The equity export receipts, after adjusting for the JV cash calls, are paid directly into the Federation Account domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Domestic crude oil of 445,000 barrels per day is allocated for refining to meet domestic product supply.

Payments are effected to the Federation Account by the NNPC after removing crude and product losses, pipeline repairs and management costs incurred.

Petrol subsidy gulped N8.94tn in 10 years, says PPPRA

September 22, 2020

The Federal Government spent N8.94tn on petrol subsidy between 2006 and 2015, figures released by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency on Monday showed.

Data from the PPPRA showed that during the 10-year period, the government consistently spent billions of naira subsidising Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol.

It said that in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, the government spent N257.36bn, N271.51bn, N630.57bn, N469.31bn and N667.08bn respectively.

Also in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, the government paid N2.104tn, N1.354tn, N1.315tn, N1.217tn and N653.51bn respectively on petrol subsidy.

The PPPRA had in March commenced the deregulation of the downstream oil sector in a bid to halt the continued payment of subsidy.

Before March, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the sole importer of petrol into Nigeria, had been recording under-recoveries as a result of its subsidy spendings on petrol.

Last week, The PUNCH reported that the PPPRA gazetted a market-based pricing regime for petrol in its bid to further boost the deregulation of the downstream oil and gas sector.

Spokesperson of the agency, Kimchi Apollo, told our correspondent that with the new gazette, oil marketers were now empowered to fix petrol price in accordance with the market realities

September 22, 2020

 •  Ekiti, Kogi, Imo, Zamfara, four others yet to begin wage implementation
 •  Petrol/electricity tariff hikes: Talks resume Friday, palliatives plan on agenda

Our Correspondents
Negotiations on the N30,000 minimum wage, which were suspended in some states in the wake of COVID-19  outbreak in March,  would resume this week.

The PUNCH gathered on Monday that workers in no fewer than eight states had yet to be paid the minimum wage nine months after the deadline the Nigeria Labour Congress gave state governments.

Labour leaders told The PUNCH that Osun, Kwara, Ekiti, Imo, Gombe, Kogi, Zamfara and Ebonyi state governments had not started the minimum wage implementation.

Findings indicated in states, where minimum wage negotiations had been concluded,  workers were demanding fresh talks in view of the hikes in the fuel price and electricity tariff.

The Trade Union Congress said together with the  NLC it would stage street protests in states where implementation of the minimum wage had not started.

It said such protests were held in Rivers and Ogun states, a few days ago, adding that workers would storm Imo State soon for the minimum wage protests.

Although the new minimum wage bill was signed by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.),   into law on April 18, 2019,  both labour and the Federal Government did not agree on consequential adjustment of workers’ salaries until October 17, 2019.

In October, the Federal Government and the NLC agreed on 23.2 percentage increase for workers at grade level 07; 20 per cent for those at grade level 08; 19 per cent for workers at grade level 09; 16 per cent for those on levels 10 to 14; and 14 per cent for workers at grade levels 15 to 17.

In a communiqué issued after its meeting on December 11, 2019, the NLC gave state governments a  December 31 deadline to conclude negotiations on the minimum wage.

It was learnt that the fuel price hike had brought to the fore the issue of minimum wage in states, where it had not been implemented.
Petrol price hike: Osun  workers demand fresh terms as talks begin on Thursday
In Osun State, the Chairman of the NLC, Jacob Adekomi, told one of our correspondents that labour leaders and the state government would resume minimum wage negotiations on Thursday.

According to him, the state Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, during a meeting on Sunday told the labour leaders to work out the financial implications of their demands and submit them to the state government.

Adekomi explained that in  December,   a committee consisting of government and Labour representatives was set up.
He stated, “Recently, we met with the commissioner for finance and Mr Governor on the need to go back to the negotiation table and finalise the agreement we reached before. But with what is on the ground now, we have to start all over again because of the hikes in electricity tariff and petroleum price.

In  Kogi State, the NLC   Chairman, Onu Edoka in a chat with one of our correspondents on the telephone, said negotiations would resume this week.
Edoka said activities of a 17-man negotiating committee set up by the state government were stalled because of COVID-19 pandemic in March.

On its part, the Chief of Staff to the state governor, Asuku Jamiu, in an interview with The PUNCH,  said labour leaders were part of the negotiations.

Kwara workers write  gov, demand minimum wage
The Chairman of the Kwara  State Joint Negotiating Council,  Saliu Sulaiman,  told The PUNCH that workers in the state had written the state Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, asking him to sign the minimum wage bill and begin its implementation.

He said although labour leaders and the state government had agreed on modalities for implementing the new minimum, he said the payment was suspended as a result of outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
Sulaiman stated, “Apart from COVID-19,  hikes  in electricity tariff and fuel pump price have also made the current salary earned by workers in the state to be meaningless.”

“We met last week and one of the issues we discussed was the minimum wage which the government has yet to implement. We have written a letter to the governor to sign the collective agreement.”

In  Sokoto State, the NLC Chairman,   Ahmed Umar,  in an interview with one of our correspondents in Sokoto said the state government began the payment of the new minimum wage in January.

He, however,  said the payment had not started in local government areas because of the bloated  “staff strength”  in the LGAs.

Ekiti workers to write state govt
Also,  the NLC in Ekiti State said the state government had not concluded talks with workers on the minimum wage.

The NLC Secretary in the state, Taiwo Akinyemi, in an interview with The PUNCH,  said negotiations would soon resume in the state.

Akinyemi said since COVID-19 infection, which was the reason the negotiation was suspended was already thinning out, the NLC would write the government on the need to conclude the negotiation.

The Enugu  State Chairman of the NLC,  Virginus Nwobodo, on his part, said the minimum wage implementation in the state had started.

He, however, said inflation had made a mess of it. “Enugu State Government has started minimum wage implementation.” He, however, noted that the  minimum wage had been greatly affected by  inflation
But in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, the Bauchi State Chairman of the NLC,  Danjuma Saleh, said negotiations with the state government had not been concluded before the COVID-19 lockdown.

He stated, “We reached an agreement six to seven months ago and workers from level six down have been getting the minimum wage. It is only salaries of senior staff from level seven upwards that we have not agreed on. We will soon resume the negotiations.”

The  Gombe State Chairman of the NLC, Mohammed Adamu,  said,  “We have resumed talks but we have yet to conclude them. We have not reached the stage to plot a strike as we hope to conclude discussion on resumption of payment before the end of this  month.”

Recall that Gombe is one of the few states that adopted the 30,000 minimum wage, but suspended its implementation due to the impact of COVID-19.

In Oyo State, the acting Chairman of the NLC, Mr Kayode Martins, told The PUNCH that the majority of the workers were being paid the new minimum wage.

He, however, said some departments, higher institutions and agencies were still taking the old salaries.

But the NLC in Ebonyi State is divided. The NLC Chairman, Ikechukwu Nwafor, who is recognised by the national leadership of the congress, said the state government had not negotiated with the state chapter.

Nwafor,  in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents in Abakaliki, said efforts of the NLC to negotiate with the state government failed.

Nwafor said, “I didn’t negotiate with the  Ebonyi State Government. They didn’t allow negotiations.

They called some people and made them to sign some documents.

“The people negotiated with them and agreed on a table that they have been using to pay people. They went and did it as a hidden thing when I was writing the governor to come up with a negotiation team and all of a sudden they said they had paid the minimum wage.

“The minimum wage is not being implemented in this state. We have the table and we can make it available for you;  what Ebonyi has been paying before now, what it is paying now and what it should be paying after now.
But the factional Chairman,  Mr Leonard Nkah, told The PUNCH that “the negotiation on the national minimum wage was concluded about one year ago. We are enjoying the national minimum wage in Ebonyi State, and workers are not just happy with it.”

The  Zamfara State Chairman of the congress,  Bashir Mafara, said negotiations on the minimum wage had been concluded but implementation had not begun.

The chairman said the committee set up by the state government had submitted its report to state Governor, Bello Matawalle.
Also, the Kano State Government has yet to refund salaries of workers it deducted for three months after it started the implementation of the minimum in December 2019.

A reliable source told The  PUNCH that the state government promised to refund the deductions before the end of August 2020, but it had yet to fulfil the promise.
Recall that the state chapter of  NLC, had on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 threatened to embark on a strike over the May salary pay cut.

A source said, “The state government deducted the workers’ salaries in May, June and July. It was only in August the deduction was not made.”

Following the dwindling revenues arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government slashed workers’ salaries which the state NLC kicked against.
The state NLC while reacting on the development, had described the state government’s action as a violation of the existing minimum wage law 2019.

However,  following an agreement between the union and the Kano State Government, the workers suspended their planned strike.

However, all efforts to contact the state NLC chairman,  Kabiru Ado-Minjibir,  to comment on the situation failed as did not pick phone calls from The PUNCH.

But a competent source at the state ministry of finance said it was the labour union that was supposed to know when the workers’ money would be refunded.
Meanwhile, the TUC and the NLC  have concluded plans to hold a massive protest in Imo State to compel the state government to implement the minimum wage.

The TUC President, Mr Quadri Olaleye, said the organised labour would soon arrive in the state in solidarity with the workers who he said were being denied their rights and benefits by the government.

Speaking to one of our correspondents on Monday on the refusal of about eight states to implement the minimum wage, the union leader said the TUC and NLC would deal with the errant states.
He stated that the unions had addressed the delay in implementing the bill in Rivers and Ogun States, noting that the former would start paying the minimum wage this month.
The TUC and NLC had planned a major street protest in Port Harcourt, the state capital, but it was shelved following calls for dialogue by the state government.

The meeting subsequently agreed on the implementation of the minimum wage, prompting the organised labour to shelve the rally.
Olaleye said, “I’m sure you are aware of what happened in Rivers State and Ogun states last week. We are taking it one by one. We have resolved that of Rivers state, they would start paying this month. The remaining five or six states, we are going to deal with them jointly with the NLC. Imo State is next, that is where the action would be.”

Labour writes FG on states’ failure to pay minimum wage
He further explained that the failure of some states to pay the minimum wage was part of the demands presented to the Federal Government during their meeting with the FG team on the hikes in the prices of petroleum products and electricity tariffs, in Abuja last Tuesday.

He added, “We already reported to the Federal Government in the letter of ultimatum we gave them that they should mandate all states that have not paid the minimum wage to implement it immediately.”

The TUC disclosed that the labour movement would again meet with the FG officials to further discuss the hikes in electricity tariffs and fuel pump price.
It said the government was expected to unfold its plans and palliatives to address the socio-economic impact of the increase on Nigerians.
The TUC leader stated, “We have not discussed those who have not been paying the minimum wage issue with the Federal Government, we only mentioned it during our presentation. So, at the meeting, they would give us their plan. I think we should be meeting by Friday this week.”

Woman slumps while protesting against her sack by Cross River State government

An unidentified lady slumped on Monday September 21 in Calabar while protesting against her sack by the Cross River State Government.

Governor Ben Ayade had mid 2019, directed the delisting of about 2,500 names from the payroll of the Cross River State government, claiming that most of those employed between 2014 till then did not follow due process.

The sacked workers on Monday blocked access to the state secretariat in protest over what they described as “unfair and illegal delisting from the state payroll.”

The protesters who carried placards with inscriptions ‘we shall protest till the end’, ‘Head of Service should be sacked’’, ‘Ayade you betrayed us’, said they were tired of not hearing from the government and that the state labor union is complicit in their plights.

Speaking to newsmen, Comrade Paul Ajie Abang who led the protesters said that they had initially given the state government a seven-day ultimatum to take action or face a massive protest and that it was their silence that has led to the peaceful protest.

Abang disclosed that the group had met with the Head of Service and all other relevant stakeholders to iron out the matter but it seems the government is insincere and doesn’t want to act, and that the group will not back down till the right thing is done.

One of the protesters who identified himself as ‘Papa’ said the protesters were part of the 2500 workers from the state who were employed and then delisted from the state’s payroll.

“We are the 2500 staff of the state government who were duly employed, got their appointment letter, and then delisted from the payroll by the government. We are taking this struggle upon ourselves because labor has failed us. We are out here fighting for our rights and we have no plan of leaving here until our voices are heard.” he said.

"We are here to let the world know of the injustice being meted to us. for a year and one month now we have not received our salaries and the government is tossing us around.” He added.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the woman who was until her sack a staff of the ministry of health, was later revived and taken home.

She was born on November 29th 1921 in Washington DC, she lived through prohibition, the depression, and World War II."

"I would talk to her for hours about the '20s '30s and '40s. It was a history lesson. Her mind was as sharp as a razor till the day she died. She never wore a mask a true revolutionary gal.   Idahosa: Oshiomhole Refused To Believe Obaseki Has Finished Him Politically
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-22-2020, 09:58 AM - No Replies

Quote:Chief Charles Idahosa, is a former Commissioner for Information in Edo state. In this interview, the chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is one of the major backers of Governor Godwin Obaseki, speaks on the outcome of last Saturday’s governorship election in Edo state. TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI brings the excerpts:

As a major stakeholder in Edo, what is your assessment of last Saturday’s governorship election which was won by Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP?

The governor’s victory in the election is my biggest birthday gift ever. I said so because this is a project I am a major stakeholder in. I have never fought any political battle and lost and I’m glad that we have been able to prove that nobody can take the people of Edo state as slaves. We have proven to Adams Oshiomhole and his likes that Edo is not Lagos. I have always said that Edo may go the way of the opposition given the impunity with which Oshiomhole was running the affairs of APC as national chairman. He feels his words were law and nobody can question him. I have said it severally that only Obaseki can win the governorship election for APC and any attempt to replace him will spell doom for the party. I also said if by omission or commission Obaseki was forced out of the party, APC is dead. I also said we will go anywhere he goes. When Oshiomhole masterminded the qualification of the governor from participating in the APC primary, I knew that was the end of my stay in the party. When Obaseki moved to the PDP, I also moved with my supporters with him to PDP. We knew we were going to win by a landslide because we control the structures in the state. We are closer to the grassroots unlike Oshiomhole who went and bring someone from Lagos with bullion vans, thinking that they can buy the people of Edo with money. So, I am very happy with the victory of Governor Obaseki and the PDP, especially on my 67th birthday. We have successfully liberated Edo from the shackles of godfatherism. Our next port of call is Lagos.

Some people are of the view that the election was the best conducted in the history of Edo since 1999, do you share that view?

The election was free and fair. The people of Edo have spoken and their voices were reflected in the outcome of the election. Before the election, they boasted of federal might but they were disappointed. I want to specially thank President Muhammadu Buhari for rising above party politics and providing an avenue for free and fair election. I have always known him as a forthright man; a man of integrity and he has again proven that in the Edo election. I had to go to my village with fear because they withdrew all the police. All the policemen attached to VIPs were removed. Even Government House was devoid of policemen except three or four that were attached to the governor. They did all this to show that the security agents will be neutral and the election will be free and fair. In all, I feel so sorry for Oshiomhole that he had to end his career this way. God raised him from nowhere but he wanted to assume the power of the almighty. A man without primary six certificate; a common tailor who was privileged to become president of NLC and later governor. I contested against him in 2007 during the AC primary. They rigged the primary for him saying because he was already popular. They said I should be his running mate but I rejected it saying deputy governor is not what I wanted. I said I knew what I wanted and I will do it at my own time, in my own way. I later accepted to be his Political Adviser for eight years and he knew what I did for him. All the battles against godfatherism in Edo, we fought it together. We fought the biggest godfathers that ever existed in this state.

The APC have rejected the outcome of the election and have said they will announce their next line of action soon. How will you react to that?

It is expected. You don’t give a child such a serious beating and expect him not to cry. Let them go to the Tribunal. They did that in 2016 up to the Supreme Court and they lost; the same will also happen now. You want to go to court for an election that is so transparent, free and fair and was commended by local and foreign observers. You want to go to court for an election that was not even a close contest between the two parties? Let them go. We are waiting for them. Now, they are saying they want to go to court, let them go because the lawyers too are waiting to make their money. I feel so sorry for Oshiomhole because he allowed himself to be deceived. Most of the commissioners that worked with Oshiomhole when he was governor, I gave them to him. He didn’t know many of them. Most of them are lightweight people who only begged to get appointments. But after getting these appointments, they assumed big title such as ‘Chief of Staff ’; ‘Special Adviser’; ‘Minority Whip’; and feel they are in charge of the political situation. Immediately they got appointment, they forgot how they begged and rolled on the ground to get to where they were; they abandoned their people and thought they can buy them over with money after four years. Here we are today.

With the victory of PDP, what becomes the fate of Adams Oshiomhole on his dominance of Edo politics?

Oshiomhole tried everything in the books but he couldn’t succeed. This election was the last card for him and everybody could see that everything he did was like the last kick of a dying horse. Oshiomhole refused to believe that he is finished politically. He is politically finished and there is nothing he can do about that. He was removed as national chairman after two years and two days. He instigated 14 lawmakers to come and be living with him in Abuja so that he can put a rope around the governor’s neck. This is something he never tolerated when he was governor of Edo state but he wanted to do it to his successor. He instigated 42 appointees against Governor Godwin Obaseki and they left the government because they fell for Oshiomhole’s lies. I just looked at them with pity because they failed to realise that money is not everything. They didn’t know what politics is all about. They are coming up with sensational headlines that a Commissioner resigned from Obaseki’s government.

Who is the Commissioner without a party leader? The leader put him there. Now that they have left, other party members are waiting to take that position. Despite all their boasting in my local government that Samson Osagie, former Minority Whip will win, he lost his unit and ward. Since 1999, it was PDP all the way. In 2007, we moved to form Action Congress (AC) and we fielded Oshiomhole as governorship candidate. From 2007 till date, APC has been winning my local government until I turned it around for PDP now with my supporters.

We are now back to PDP. All these commissioners, Special Advisers who resigned and are making noise in the media are creation of party leaders who are silent operators. The leaders are in the ones in the village who controls what happened at the grassroots. But when the leaders now nominate these people and they get to the centre, they feel they are popular and they can do and undo. All of the 14 lawmakers who were making noise alongside the multi-billionaire who was saying he will spend his last kobo to ensure Obaseki is removed, none of them won their wards. I read a news analysis where they said Obaseki will lose because the 14 lawmakers will get sympathy votes from their constituency. No one sympathised with them and they lost because they were not on ground.

Girl, 16, is gang-raped by four men and dumped to slowly die on building site

A schoolgirl was allegedly gang-raped and killed by four migrants who dumped her on a building site and left her to die.

Desiree Mariottini, 16, from Cisterna di Latina, Italy, was found dead after being drugged and raped in the construction site in the district of San Lorenzo in October 2018.

A witness claims that the 16-year-old girl went to the abandoned site used by homeless people to buy drugs from the four men.

Narcisa Leon, an Ecuadorian woman who squatted in the abandoned site, told the court that she found the victim lying motionless on a dirty mattress.

She had seen the schoolgirl with the four defendants earlier in the day.

She also said that one of the suspects, Mamadou Gara, confirmed in a conversation with her that they had given the victim a strong tranquiliser and that he had then had "sex with her".

The case is ongoing.

The four men, Yusif Salia, Mamadou Gara, Brian Minteh, and Chima Alinno, are on trial for the rape and death of the 16-year-old.

They are accused of giving the victim a cocktail of drugs before raping her in turn and leaving her to die.

According to Leon, one of the defendants said "better she is dead than us be in prison".

Other people who were apparently squatting at the site knew that the girl was badly hurt, but did nothing after hearing what the suspected drug dealers had said.

Leon claimed that the suspects wanted the teenage girl to die to escape possible jail time.

Members of a cabal were enriching themselves with susbidy payments - NNPC GMD, Mele Kyari

Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has alleged that members of a cabal were enriching themselves with susbidy payments before it was removed by the federal government.

Kyari who said this in an Hausa programme on Liberty FM, Kaduna, insisted that fuel subsidy was not beneficial to the masses and was removed because it was characterised by fraudulent activities.

The NNPC GMD also disclosed that the money from subsidy payment will now be channeled into projects that will have a direct impact on the masses.

Kyari said;

Quote:“The crude oil is a global commodity and its price is not hidden, everyone can calculate and know how much is the cost of every final product from the crude at the international market. But, since the inception of oil importation, the government has been paying subsidy on petrol to make it cheaper for Nigerians to buy below the cost price.

“This subsidy is designed to assist Nigerians, that is the intention. But in reality, the masses are not the beneficiaries. First, the masses are not the owners of the exotic cars, buying fuel, owning the filling stations, and doing the oil business.

“This subsidy that the government has been paying over the years is the root of all the atrocities and fraud committed in this country.

“For example, if you look at it from 2006 till 2020, we have spent over N10 trillion on fuel subsidy. Apart from that, there is also subsidy on foreign currencies, everybody knows how much is dollar in the market, but the government is also subsidising it. So, this and the fuel subsidy, within this period, have gulped between N14 trillion and N15 trillion.

“It was not the masses of Nigeria that were enjoying this subsidy, except some members of a cabal, who are rich and powerful. They were enriching themselves with the subsidy money at the detriment of the masses who were the primary target.

“From this money, Nigeria has been able to pay workers’ salaries without retrenching despite the effects of the COVID-19 on the global economy.

“In the whole of West Africa, it is only Nigeria that didn’t retrench workers as a result of the pandemic. Apart from that, part of the money will be used to support farmers and other business owners.”

17-year-old boy allegedly drugs, rapes 14-year-old girl in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a secondary school drop out for allegedly drugging and defiling a 14- year-old girl in Ejigbo area of the state.

It was gathered that the suspect, Pelumi Oloyede-Bello,17, who is said to be an agent of an electricity company, met the victim when he went to install prepaid meters for some residents of Akinwunmi street, Ile-Epo area of Ejigbo.

The girl was trying to recharge her parent’s prepaid meter so Oloyede offered to assist. He took her to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Okota branch where the recharge was done.

On their way back to Ejigbo, he reportedly took the girl to a hotel at Jakande gate, where he allegedly drugged her drink and raped her. During interrogation, he confessed to have drugged her with 200 milligrams of tramadol.

"I offered to go and recharge their meter myself but her grandmother asked her to follow me. On our way back, I bought her a bottle of soft drink. But before giving it to her, I went to the hotel where I dropped 200 milligrams of tramadol inside. I took her to the hotel where I paid N2,500 and had sex with her," he said.

"She slept for too long because of the drug and by the time she woke up, it was late. When she got home, they asked what kept her long and in the process, beat her in order to extract the truth from her. That was how she opened up.

"I have never committed such a crime in my life. This is the first time. I used tramadol to sleep because of the noise of the power generating sets in my compound every night. My intention was never to end up in this type of trouble.

"I dropped out of school two years ago because my mother, a widow, didn’t have money to pay for my SSCE exam. I started installing prepaid meters and was paid N1,000 commission. I have been saving the money to enrol for the SSCE examination. My mother is working as a maid to keep the family going”, he said.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest.

"The boy is in our custody, under investigation." He said.

Kim Kardashian "is planning to divorce" Kanye West, new reports say

New reports have it that Reality TV star, Kim Kardashian is planning to divorce her husband, Kanye West.

According to Page Six, a source close to the couple says Kanye's anti-abortion comments about their daughter North have taken a toll on their marriage.

The rapper months ago during a rally spoke about how Kim nearly aborted North when she was pregnant with her, then in September, Kanye again addressed the topic of abortion on Nick Cannon's podcast

He said his greatest achievement was “still being sensitive enough to cry at the idea of aborting my daughter.”

Just last week Kanye included his daughter's name in a tweet alleging he could be murdered.

He wrote: “NORTHY I AM GOING TO WAR AND PUTTING MY LIFE ON THE LINE AND IF I AM MURDERED DON’T EVER LET WHITE MEDIA TELL YOU I WASN'T A GOOD MAN.
“WHEN PEOPLE THREATEN TO TAKE YOU OUT OF MY LIFE JUST KNOW I LOVE YOU.”

Kanye then surprised everyone when he recently filmed himself urinating on his Grammy award.

Now, according to Page Six, an insider said;
"Kim has the whole divorce planned out but she's waiting for him to get through his latest episode." The report says.

“She is deeply disappointed and sad because Kanye is struggling.

"It’s a vicious cycle that Kim has had success at interrupting successfully for months at a time.”

"She isn’t surprised that her husband has not been abiding to terms of his care plan and blamed part of his downward spiral to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Kanye being isolated and alone essentially in his head isn’t healthy."

"Kim doesn’t care about the tweets, that is Kanye being Kanye but the mood swings and the manic episodes [that] are extremely difficult for Kim to help Kanye cope with.”

In another report by People Magazine, a source told the magazine that Kim is "at the end of her rope – again" following Kanye's tweets.

The insider claimed: "He's off his meds.
"He promised he'd stay on them. The last time, part of his negotiation with Kim was that he'd get back on his medication and he would work very hard to control his impulses.

"He made a lot of promises. And now those promises are broken, less than a month later."

The insider told the outlet: "It's the same thing over and over and over again.
"He's on very thin ice with her right now, and she's truly trying to decide what to do to protect the kids, but also her own sanity. The whole thing is discouraging and difficult for her."

The source added: "Kim had zero clue that he was going to tweet anything.

"None whatsoever. And she saw the tweets and was like, 'Seriously? Again?' She wants to be a supportive partner, she's doing everything she can do to support him. But he has to support himself.

"He has to take care of his own health. She can't force-feed him medication. She can't make him do anything he doesn't want to do."

Indian man desperate for a son 'slits open his pregnant wife’s belly' to check their baby’s gender (graphic photos)

An Indian man who has five daughters was so desperate for a son that he allegedly split open his pregnant wife's belly to determine the gender of their baby.

The man, identified as Pannalal,43, attacked his wife Anita Devi, 35, with a sharp-edged weapon on Saturday night , September 19, at their home in Budaun in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, The Times of India reported.

She was rushed to a Bareilly hospital in a serious condition. Her baby in the womb was unhurt, but Anita’s condition deteriorated due to severe damage and excessive bleeding from the attack.

Confirming the attack,  Civil Lines Police Station SHO, Sudhakar Pandey said the man got into an argument with his wife who is six to seven months pregnant over fear that their next child would also be a girl.

"A priest had predicted that their sixth child would also be a girl. Pannalal then attacked Anita with a sickle on her abdomen to kill the fetus after she refused to have an abortion."

Their neighbors arrived at the scene and rushed Anita to the district hospital, the police said.

The SHO told the publication that the woman's husband has been detained over the attack.

"We have detained the accused and he is being questioned," Sudhakar said while adding that they are waiting for a written complaint from the woman's family to register a case.

Anita's younger brother, Ravi Kumar said, "My brother-in-law used to beat up my sister often for giving birth to five daughters. Even my parents tried to resolve the problem, but no one had ever imagined that he would take such a cruel step."

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER.

ALERT AND SENSITIVE IN THE SPIRIT ALWAYS

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).

Although the religious leaders present were indignant that Jesus healed the woman on a Sabbath day, the Master’s response revealed something striking. He said, “…ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” (Luke 13:16).

The Master stated clearly that it was Satan who kept the woman in that condition through “a spirit of infirmity.” And as soon as He dealt with the spirit, the woman straightened up; she was made whole by the power of God.

Jesus understood the spirit world. He knew life was spiritual, and demon spirits are real and responsible for a lot of the infirmities that people suffer from. And through the Scriptures and insight He grants us by the Holy Spirit, we understand how to identify Satan and his works.

If you don’t know the Scriptures, you could be a victim of Satan’s devices. Study and meditate on the Word often; speak in tongues every day; be filled with the Spirit, and your spiritual alertness and sensitivity will always be at its peak. There’re spiritual dimensions to life. You need to know what God initiates, and what the devil instigates. The Bible says “...we are not ignorant of his (Satan’s) devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11).

CONFESSION

By the authority given me in Christ, I keep Satan and his cohorts under my feet! I live in God’s glory, walking in divine health, peace, safety, abundance and joy. I walk in the fullness of the blessings of the Gospel today. Hallelujah!

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge You as the Lord of my life; You’re the Lord over my choices, desires, plans, and purposes. Always and at all times.

I thank You for granting me the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. Now, I am filled with the knowledge of Your will, in all wisdom, and spiritual understanding, to deal excellently in life.

I function daily from a place of inward sufficiency and operate from a vantage position of rest and satisfaction, irrespective of circumstances. Hallelujah!

With my faith, I consistently frame my life in the path of glory and excellence, living the life of victory, success, joy, health, and prosperity which God has ordained for me.

I refuse to be disadvantaged or helpless in this life; my faith in the Word is effective and prevailing.

Thank You, for I am the first and the best of Your creations; I am indestructible and impregnable to the corrupting influences of this world because greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.

I’m a new creature; I am supernatural! My life is a manifestation of the glory and beauty of divinity. I am alive to God, spirit, soul, and body, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you[Image: 20200903_0439042.png]

Nsukka Residents Laud INEC On Credible Election In Edo
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 09-22-2020, 08:52 AM - No Replies

Quote:Some residents of Nsukka town in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State have commended INEC for conducting a credible, free and fair governorship election in Edo, on Saturday.

The residents spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka on Monday.

They attributed what they described as violence-free election to the fact that INEC operated as a neutral umpire and gave all the political parties that fielded candidates level-playing playing field during the exercise.

Dr Ifeanyichukwu Abada, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said that INEC deserved commendation for presiding over a credible, free, fair and violence-free governorship election in Edo.

Abada, the immediate past head of the department, said that what INEC did in Edo had restored the confidence of many Nigerians in the commission, urging it to do same in the October 10 governorship election in Ondo State.

“I commend INEC for conducting a credible, free and fair governorship election in Edo. I urge the commission to do same in Ondo State during the October 10 governorship election.

“The result of Saturday’s election in Edo has shown that power indeed belongs to the people and that the era of godfatherism in that state is over.

“I urge the APC governorship candidate to show maturity and spirit of sportsmanship by accepting the outcome of the election, as the people of the state have spoken,” he said.

Mr Fabian Onah, the chairman of People Democratic Party (PDP) in Nsukka Local Government Area, commended the people of Edo for trooping out in their numbers to vote for the candidates of their choice.

“The victory of Gov. Godwin Obaseki in the governorship election on Saturday reflected the voice of Edo people.

“I commend INEC and security agencies for providing a conducive environment that ensures the success of the election. I want to urge them to keep it up.

“I also urge Obaseki to be magnanimous in victory and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the APC candidate, to show a spirit of sportsmanship by accepting the outcome of the election,’’ he said.

“The Edo election should be a lesson to politicians in the country, especially those who see themselves as political godfathers, that only God crowns a king,” he said.

Mr Anthony Ozioko, an APC chieftain in Nsukka, hailed the exercise, saying that the electorate came out to vote without any molestation or intimidation.

Ozioko attributed the loss of the governorship election by APC to what he called the misunderstanding between Obaseki and a former APC National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, which resulted in the former leaving APC to join PDP.

“With the victory of PDP Edo, the number of states being controlled by APC has reduced and if care is not taken, this may affect the party’s performance in the 2023 general elections,’’ he said.

Ekiti APC Members Accuse Fayemi Of Supporting Obaseki In Edo
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-22-2020, 08:42 AM - No Replies

Quote:Some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State have alleged that Governor Kayode Fayemi is planning to expel them from the party.

The stakeholders also alleged that the governor supported Godwin Obaseki, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded Edo State elections.

Mr Obaseki, who joined the PDP after he was denied the APC ticket, defeated Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC to win Saturday’s governorship election.

The crisis rocking the APC in Ekiti State has been on for several months.

Last week, PREMIUM TIMES reported that the special adviser on political matters to President Muhammadu Buhari, Babafemi Ojudu, and 11 others were summoned to appear before a panel for allegedly disobeying the party’s directive and failure to withdraw cases instituted against the party in court.

In an official reaction to their summon, the affected politicians in a statement signed by Bamgboye Adegoroye, sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Monday, said Mr Fayemi was responsible for their summons.

“A curious process is taking place in the Ekiti State branch of our progressive party. Our governor and the chairman of Nigeria’s Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi, after installing the governor of Edo State in a clear case of anti party, is bent on expelling leaders of the party.

“Towards achieving this purpose he (Fayemi) has set up a committee of his adulators to put us on trial in a predetermined process. The committee is chairmanned by one Mr Ajigbolamu who recently left the PDP to join our party. We also know that the affairs of the committee is managed by the office of the Attorney General Mr Wale Fapounda, his anointed for the position of governor when his term is over in 2022.”

The stakeholders also said despite assisting the governor politically, Mr Fayemi has decided to punish them by appointing new executives of the party in a private home in Iyin-Ekiti, which they said violates the constitution of the party.

“We demanded of him the dissolution of this product of illegality and institution of a legitimate executive in compliance with our party’s constitution. We intimated our party leaders of these concerns; the same problem which was present in his first term that led to our losing the state to PDP with ignominy in the year 2014.”

They also accused the governor of hounding them and suspending members, leading them to resort to instituting court cases to protect their rights.

The stakeholders, however, said that they are threatened by the strategy the governor “is trying to employ by setting up a committee to expel us. We, however, insist we shall under no circumstance leave the party to join another. We were members of the party from foundation and also members of ACN, a legacy party that joined with others to form APC. We were in the other progressive parties, AD, AC that existed before and transformed to the present party.”

“We also make bold to say that some of us being threatened with expulsion were responsible for inviting Governor Fayemi in 2005 to come home and run for the governor of our state. We also worked tirelessly for the period of three and a half years it took to get him installed as governor through the court process.”

“Ekiti is a progressive state and this has been right from independence. We shall not sit down and allow one man’s incompetence to turn our state to a PDP state or a state where batons are exchanged between PDP and APC every four years thus depriving it of the necessary stability to ensure its growth. We are therefore calling our national leadership to stop Dr Kayode Fayemi from killing our party in Ekiti. Things are bad enough now for the party in the state.”

“Allowing him to carry out our expulsion will only spell doom for our beloved APC.”

Mr Fayemi’s spokesperson, Yinka Oyebode did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES calls and text messages seeking comments from the governor as regards the expulsion allegations and support for Mr Obaseki levied against him.

Teenager accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend claims he was 'playing around' when the gun went off

A teenager accused of killing his pregnant 19-year-old girlfriend has claimed he was just "playing around" with a gun when it went off and shot her.

Gage Gillentine, 18, has been charged with murder after allegedly killing Klowie Moore, 19,  on Friday, September 11, in Graham, Texas.

According to a press release from the Graham Police Department, Gillentine was staying at the Executive Inn, located at 1919 Hwy. 16. A representative with the Executive Inn said the two checked into the hotel on Aug. 16.

At 7:09 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, police received a call of a shooting in room 106. Moore was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital, where she died.

Upon an initial investigation, it was discovered that Moore was staying in the room with her reported fiancé Gillentine. Officers and investigators discovered Gillentine was in the motel room when the incident occurred. No arrest was made at the time but authorities said they considered the incident "suspicious."

On Thursday, September 17, Gillentine was arrested and charged with murder. His bond is set at $500,000 dollars.

Gillentine allegedly pointed the gun at Moore and pulled the trigger, but didn’t know there was a round loaded in the chamber, according to an affidavit.

He could not keep his story straight with the police, telling them he was not in the room when the shooting happened, then saying he was in the bathroom, according to court documents.

In the same interview, police said he was trying to take the slide off the handgun and it "just went off."

Moore was sixteen weeks pregnant when Gillentine allegedly shot and killed her.

Her funeral took place on Friday, KJTL reported.

Colonel D.C. Bako Dies After Boko Haram Ambush. Army Confirms Death
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 09-22-2020, 07:45 AM - Replies (1)

Quote:The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of a colonel after an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists.

The army described D.C. Bako as “one of our gallant and finest war heroes.”

PREMIUM TIMES reported the ambush, near Damboa, which led to the death of Mr Bako, a colonel who also commands an army brigade in Damboa.

Ado Isa, the spokesman of the Nigeria Army’s Operation Lafiya Dole, in a press statement, confirmed the death.

He said Mr Bako was until his death the commander of 25 Task Force Brigade in Damboa.

Mr Isa said the colonel died in a military hospital where he was receiving treatment after the ambush.

The statement was silent on the fate of the soldiers who were with Mr Bako during the ambush with an army source telling PREMIUM TIMES that six other soldiers died in the ambush. That information was, however, not corroborated by other sources.

Read the full statement by Mr Isa, an army colonel, below.

“Operation LAFIYA DOLE wishes to intimate the general public of the demise of one of our gallant and finest war heroes Col DC Bako. It could be recalled that the professional, gallant senior officer who always led from the front and a patriotic Nigerian, led a patrol to clear Boko Haram Terrorits from Sabon Gari-Wajiroko axis near Damboa when his patrol team entered an ambush at about 10 a.m Sunday 20 September 2020. Under his able leadership, the troops cleared the ambush resulting to the killing of scores of terrorists and recovery of weapons and equipment.

“Sadly however, he was wounded in action and immediately evacuated by the Air Task Force Operation LAFIYA DOLE to the 7 Division Hospital at Maimalari Cantonment. The late senior officer was recuperating well after successful operation at the hospital, in good spirit and also said his prayers in the early hours of this morning before his sad passing at the hospital. May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest. Ameen.

“The Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai on behalf of himself, gallant troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE and indeed well meaning Nigerians hereby express his heartfelt condolences to his esteemed family. We are most grateful for his contributions and sacrifices to the motherland. May God grant eternal rest to the gentle soul of Col DC Bako and the souls of all Nigerian Army officers and soldiers who paid the supreme prize in the defence of our father land.”
