BRT Bus Kills 2 People In Lagos
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 09-30-2020, 03:43 PM - No Replies

At the early hours of 30th September, 2020, an accident occurred at Abdul moruf, close to Pleasure, between Iyana Ipaja and Ile Epo. This allegedly lead to the death of two Lagosians on a bike.

According to eye witness report, a bike man and his passenger commuted along the newly constructed BRT express lane and was met with an untimely death as a result of a collison with a BRT bus.

This incident enraged other bike men and in hasty retaliation attacked the bus and vandalised the mercedes benz BRT until the police came to control the situation.

Prior to this incident, the government of Lagos State had banned the use of bikes in the state. However, this new rule has not completely adhered to; as some bike still ply the roads, and the people of Lagos patronize them. Consequently, bikes caught on the road were also seized but these defaulters have found a way of getting their bikes back, after they ‘settle’ the task forces in charge.

WHO IS TO BLAME?

• The bike men whose means of livelihood had been taken from them and their families? Who are looking for means to survive?

• The BRT driver who might have been careless in his driving?

• The task forces who seize bikes and later release them after being ‘settled’?

• Lagosians who still patronize bikes even as they know the disadvantages and dangers of doing so?

We await the response of the Governor, his Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu concerning this issue. We must remember that the change we want must begin with us.

SPN condemns suspension of strike by NLC, TUC

[Image: spn-Socialist-Party-of-Nigeria-e15328946...x672-1.jpg]

Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) has condemned the action of the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for suspending the planned protest and strike which was to commence on Monday.

DAILY POST gathered that NLC and TUC had in the early hours of Monday suspended the strike at a meeting with representatives of the Federal Government.

SPN, while reacting, said it was wrong for the two labour unions to call off the strike and mass protest without achieving its purpose.

SPN noted that the party rejects the agreement signed between the labour leadership and the Federal government.

The party, in a statement signed by its Acting National Chairperson, Comrade Abiodun Bamigboye and National Secretary, Comrade Chinedu Bosah, maintained that workers and the Nigerian people must fight for the return of the power sector under a democratic control of workers and consumers.
The duo noted that it was worrisome that the strike was called off without winning the reversal of the prices of fuel and electricity tariff.

The party added that workers, youths and the masses must continue to organize to resist the hike in fuel price, hike in electricity tariff and other anti-poor capitalist attacks.

“The strike was called off without winning the reversal of the prices of fuel and electricity tariff. Rather, labour leaders acquiesced to the position of the government on deregulation and only agreed to suspend the electricity tariff for two weeks.

“It is more ridiculous for labour leaders to agree to palliatives that is so insignificant even if it is implemented, an area wherein government has failed woefully in the past.

“We recall that it was the pressure from below in trade unions and outside as well as the groundswell of anger which forced the labour leadership to issue ultimatum for strike in the first instance.

“It should be recalled that different protests were held over hikes in fuel price and electricity tariff including Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) on September 10, 2020 and Joint Action Front (JAF) on September 16, 2020.

“Regardless of the position of labour leadership, we call on workers, youth and the poor masses to continue to organize to resist the hike in fuel price, hike in electricity tariff and other anti-poor capitalist attacks.

“We call on workers and trade union activists to reject the anti-poor deregulation policy which the labour leaders have accepted on their behalf, more so without any democratic discussion and engagement.
“It is also clear that the labour leaders have not rescinded their support for neo-liberal policies of privatization and deregulation as labour representatives sit on the board of the National Council for Privatization, a body that sells our collective assets to the thieving bourgeois elite.

“As long capitalist policies are implemented, there will more attacks on the working conditions of the working masses through price hikes for the purpose of guaranteeing huge profit for the capitalists.
“For the SPN, only a nationalized planned economy under workers democratic control and management can ensure the use of human and material resources for the needs of all.

“Therefore, workers and the working people must fight for the return of the power sector under a democratic control of workers and consumer in order to guarantee the judicious use and democratic planning of its resources and thereby ensure affordable and regular electricity.

“It is the lack of this clear socio-economic and political alternative by the labour leaders to the anti-poor policies of the government that is responsible for the usual rotten compromise and their difficulty to defend the interest of the working people.

“Therefore, we call on workers and trade union activists and workers to agitate for a fighting labour leadership and truly democratically run labour organization that leads the working people to resist anti-poor capitalist policies and for better working conditions”.

800 Houses To Go As Lagos Proposes $2.2 Billon For 4th Mainland Bridge
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 09-30-2020, 10:11 AM - No Replies

Quote:The Lagos State Government is proposing the sum of $2.2 billion for the construction of the 37.4 kilometres 4th Mainland Bridge.

Upon completion, the bridge would have 2 x 4 lane carriageway cross-sectional road with allowance for BRT Lane and future road expansion.

It would also become the longest Bridge in Africa second only to the 6th October Bridge in Cairo, Egypt, featuring three toll plazas, nine interchanges, 4.5Km Lagoon Bridge, Rest and Service Areas and an eco- friendly environment amongst other added features.

800 houses are also expected to go when construction begins against the 4,000 houses earlier marked for demolition in the previous design before it was realigned.

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu disclosed this Tuesday at the first stakeholders meeting on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the bridge held at Adeyemi Bero Hall, Ikeja .

The freeway bridge is subdivided into three sections namely Island Section, Lagoon Section and Mainland Section.

It starts at the Abraham Adesanya Roundabout in Lekki where a “free flow” interchange will be constructed as well as some traffic flow alterations to the existing Lekki – Epe Expressway so as to maintain traffic movements during construction.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat , said the event is very significant in the state’s joint effort to change the narrative of the socio-economic development of the state through the provision of critical infrastructure for sustainable prosperity.

He stressed that the 4th Mainland Bridge project was deliberately included during their electioneering campaign as a key deliverable in their manifesto.

As an administration, he said, the government decided to upgrade the project and develop a method to deliver “this strategic piece of highway infrastructure and have since left no one in doubt about our commitment to ensure that this project becomes a reality.”

According to him, the history of the 4th Mainland Bridge project goes back almost 15 years when it was first raised due to the ever-decreasing efficiency of the existing 3rd Mainland Bridge in addressing the transportation needs of a growing population.

The 3rd Mainland Bridge , he said, was the first real piece of strategic infrastructure deployed in Lagos Metropolis and the proponents and developers of that project should be commended for their vision. Lagos today without the 3rd Mainland bridge is simply unimaginable.

Hamzat stressed that engagement and consultation on Environmental and Social impact assessment is a precursor to the third step which will involve issuing a “Request for Proposal” (RfP), to the six Consortia who will be required to present their respective financial proposals and methodologies for carrying out the project. It will be concluded with the selection of the “Preferred Bidder” and “2 Reserved Bidders”.

He urged stakeholders to use the meeting to consult amongst themselves on the steps to take in order to remove all the bottlenecks that may impede the delivery of 4th Mainland Bridge.

All the components of Lagos mobility, he said must be considered, including Road planning, public transport integration and urban freight;

Strengthening the current radial commuting connections towards Lagos urban core and the establishment of transversal connections that will serve both long distance traffic (avoiding the metropolitan traffic) and also other connections within the Megacity which are not Lagos bound.

He assured that the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge project has been well integrated into the overall Lagos Master Plan in relation to Transportation Infrastructure. The project allows for the first time “direct access” from the large suburb of Ikorodu to the Island and the Lekki Free Trade Zone area.

Aisha Umar: Abaribe Kicks As Buhari Nominates Chairman, DG For PENCOM Board
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-30-2020, 09:58 AM - No Replies

Quote:Senate Minority Leader Enyinnaya Abaribe has kicked against the nomination of Aisha Umar (North East) as Director General of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).

President Muhammadu Buhari had in a letter urged the Senate to confirm the nomination of Oyindasola Oni as Chairman and Aisha Umar the DG of PENCOM Board respectively.

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, read the letter on the floor of the Senate during plenary.

Abaribe however raised a point of order following the reading of the letter by Lawan.

The Abia South Senator insisted that the nomination of a candidate from the Northeast to replace the former Director-General (DG) of PENCOM, Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu from Southeast was in breach of the Act establishing PENCOM.

He noted the National Pension Commission Act 2014 provided that “in the event of a vacancy, the President shall appoint replacement from the geo-political zone of the immediate past member that vacated office to complete the remaining tenure.”

He maintained the replacement for Mrs Anohu-Amazu must come from the South East.

Abaribe said: “I recall that the tenure of the incumbent was truncated therefore, the new letter from the President that has now moved the Chairman of the Commission to another zone may not be correct because it is against the law setting up the National Pension Commission.

“Before you send it to the appropriate committee tomorrow, I wish to draw the attention of the committee to it.”

Lawan, in his response, said: “That is for me to interpret because I interpret the laws here.

“If there is any petition to that effect it should be sent to the committee.”

But an expert and senior official in the pension industry countered Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s submission, stating that the nomination is back up by the PRA 2014.

The expert, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that in furtherance to Section 20 (1) and Section 21 (1) and (2) of the Act, Section 106(4) of the PRA 2014 provides that notwithstanding section 19(2)(a) and 26(2)&(4) of the Act, where a Board of the Commission is yet to be reconstituted after six months of the dissolution of the last Board, the President of the Federal Republic may appoint fit and proper persons with pension cognate experience to constitute the Board at the first instance, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

Also, Section 171 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) vests in Mr. President the power to appoint persons to hold or act in certain offices and to remove such persons.

These offices include heads of all Federal Government extra-ministerial departments, howsoever designated.

He stated that the Act did not define what constitutes ‘vacancy’, a situation that created ambiguity as to the exact occasion when Section 21(2) of the PRA 2014 becomes operational.

He said: “However, it will appear from the context that the subsection contemplates the ceazation of membership of the board through any of the scenarios listed in Section 21(1)(a) -(h) of the PRA 2014, which include resignation, death, bankruptcy, conviction of a felony, removal by the President, among others. The argument therefore is that Mrs. Amazu’s replacement as DG of PenCom must come from the Southeast zone to complete here remaining term. However, contrary to this submission, a careful review of the relevant provisions of the PRA 2014 would lead to the following conclusions:

“A reading of both subsections (1) & (2) of Section 21 of the PRA 2014 indicates that they consistently use singular phrases such as ‘a member’; ‘a vacancy’; ‘a replacement’; ‘immediate past member that vacated office’ etc. Accordingly, it is submitted that the correct interpretation of Section 21(2) of the PRA 2014 is to hold that it addresses only cases of occasional vacancies created by the exit of individual members of the board of PenCom as enumerated in subsection (1) of the same section, rather than where the whole board is dissolved or all executive management are removed by Mr. President. Section 21(2) of the PRA 2014 seeks to ensure compliance with the provision of Section 19(4) of the Act, which requires that at all times, the Chairman, Director General and four Commissioners of PenCom shall each represent each of the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

“There had been a precedent which illustrates the application of a similar provision under the defunct PRA 2004. Thus, in 2006 when the then President Obasanjo removed only the Chairman of PenCom, Mr. Fola Adeola, who was from the Southwest, his replacement came from the Southwest when late Chief Wole Adeosun was appointed to complete the term started by Mr. Fola Adeola. The provision of Section 21(2) of the PRA 2014 applies not only to the office of the Director General but also the Chairman and other four Commissioners of PenCom where the respective individuals vacate office leaving others in office.

“Without prejudice to the foregoing submissions, we would like to draw attention to the overarching provision of S. 171(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which gives the president unfettered powers to appoint or remove head of any Federal Government extra-ministerial department, howsoever called. This includes appointments to the office of the Director General of PenCom. This constitutional power cannot be eroded by any Act of parliament in the light of the provision of S. 1(3) of the Constitution which provides that “if any other law is inconsistent with the provision of this Constitution, this Constitution shall prevail, and that other law shall to the extent of the inconsistency be void”, he added.

Angry man 'arrests' Nsukka deity for making his business fail, claims it tied up many girls from getting married and rendered people useless

A man identified as Nnajiofor Donatus was taken into police custody in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State last Saturday, after he ‘arrested’ a deity which he claimed had been tormenting his community for a long time and causing his business to fail.

Speaking to Vanguard at St. Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral before Nsukka Urban Police Division took him away for further interrogation, Nnajiofor, who hails from Ibeku Opi community in Nsukka, claimed that a stronger force from above compelled him to remove the deity as it had rendered many members of the community useless, thrown others out of business and tied up many girls of the community from getting married.

According to him, the deity was responsible for the level of poverty and stagnation being experienced in Ibeku Opi, adding that his once thriving honey business in Nnewi, Anambra State, crashed and he returned home empty-handed.

The security officer at the cathedral said that Nnajiofor who exhibited violent tendencies,  threatened to attack anybody that tried to stop him from gaining entrance to Okunere adoration museum at the cathedral to liberate Ibeku Opi community from the deity.

The Administrator of St. Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral, Nsukka, Rev. Fr. Matthew Eze, who confirmed the incident, said that Nnajiofor would have contacted any priest in the cathedral to wade in and carry the deity to the museum of Okunere adoration where other deities are kept, rather than inviting the Police.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES,

WEDNESDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER 2020

. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

TOPIC: FAITH IN HIS WORD

...Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour (Matthew 8:13).

On a certain occasion, after His resurrection, the Lord Jesus appeared to His disciples as they rounded off a fruitless fishing mission. The disciples had toiled all night and caught nothing. Then Jesus said to them, “...Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find...” (John 21:6). The Bible says, “…they threw the net out and could not pull it back in, because they
had caught so many fish” (John 21:6 TEV).

Imagine if they had argued with Jesus! They had faith in His Word and that’s where the fish came from— the Word of God. The Bible says, “Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God...” (Hebrews 11:3). The fishes were framed by the Word of the Master. Jesus set a precedence for us on how to live triumphantly every day, how to experience the miraculous through faith in the Word.

Consider this: A certain Centurion’s servant was sick and dying. Then the Centurion sent the elders of the Jews to beseech Jesus to come heal his servant. The Master agreed, but almost immediately, the Centurion sent words back to Jesus saying, “You don’t have to come under my roof; just say the word, and my servant shall be healed” (Luke 7:2-7).

When Jesus heard the words of the Centurion, the Bible says He marvelled at his faith and said, “I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.” When the messengers got back to the Centurion’s house, they found the sick servant perfectly whole at the word of Jesus (Luke 7:9-10).

What’s your desire? In which area do you require a change or a miracle? Act your faith in God’s Word. The Word of God is the answer to every trouble. You don’t have to become suicidal because you lost your job or business.

You can trust the Lord for something better. He’s the God who quickens (gives life to) the dead. He can give you back, and much more, all that you thought you lost.
Even now, act on His Word. He said in John 14:14, “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it”; ask whatever you will, knowing He’s bound by His Word and never fails.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for your precious Word which bolsters faith in my spirit and puts me over and above all of life’s predicaments. Your Word is mixed with faith in my heart; therefore, my faith is alive and active, prevailing over circumstances, and causing them to align with your perfect will for me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Woman, 20, dies two weeks after horrific gang-rape attack by four men that left her paralysed with a broken spine in India

A 20-year-old woman has died two weeks after a horrific gang-rape by four men that left her paralysed with a broken spine in India.

The men reportedly attacked the woman near her home in the Hathras region, around 60 miles from Delhi, on September 14. The victim had been cutting grass near her home when she was dragged into millet fields where her attackers stripped and raped her.

The unnamed victim who had been on a ventilator in intensive care after the horrific rape attack died today. She was only yesterday moved from a hospital in upstate Uttar Pradesh to another one in the capital.

Speaking to NDTV,  the victim's brother said: 'My mother, sister and elder brother had gone to a field to get some grass. My brother went home earlier with a large bundle of grass, while my mother and sister continued to cut them.

'The women were a little far from each other. Four-five people came from behind, they threw my sister's dupatta (shawl) around her neck and dragged her inside the bajra (millet) field.

'My mother realised she was missing and went looking for her. My sister was found unconscious. They had raped her. The police did not help us initially... they did not take quick action. They acted only after four-five days.'

The four attackers are in custody and will now be charged with murder.

The Hathras district magistrate said today: 'All four accused have been arrested. Under the SC/ST Act, her family has been given the financial support of Rs 10 lakh (£11,000), in total. Reports of her tongue being chopped off are not true.'

The woman's brothers, who say the police only acted when the case became a national scandal, accused the uthorities of failing to move her to adequate medical facilities in time.

'We were told that she would be taken to AIIMS (All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, New Delhi) but she was taken to Safdarjung,' one of them told reporters.

'Her condition was very bad. She was found in the bajra field, without clothes. Initially we even wondered if she was bitten by a snake. Three bones on her neck were broken. She had difficulty breathing... She needed oxygen right from the beginning. We reached here (Safdarjung Hospital) yesterday,' another brother told the local press.

The police in Uttar Pradesh state denied the family's claims with Hathras police chief Vikrant Vir saying: 'This is a very unfortunate incident but we have been proactive in making arrests and helping the family in whatever manner possible. I will personally ensure swift investigation and that these men are tried in a fast track court.'

According to Daily Mail, around 300 protesters from the Bhim Army, a party championing the rights of Dalit community of which the woman was a member, went inside the premises of Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi to protest over the woman's death on Tuesday.
Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Siddharth Nath Singh said: 'The incident is very saddening. Our government stands with the victim's family.

Investigation started immediately and four accused have been arrested. Strict action will be taken. The law will take its course.'

'There is next to no protection for women. Criminals are openly committing crimes,' Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a leader of the opposition Congress party, said on Twitter.

Reps In Shouting Match, As Speaker Withdraws National Water Resources Bill
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-29-2020, 08:35 PM - No Replies

Quote:The House of Representatives has withdrawn its controversial National Water Resources Bill, 2020.

The House was thrown into a turmoil on Tuesday, while considering a Matter of Privilege, raised by Rep. Benjamin Mzondu(PDP-Benue) to be heard on the contentious National Water Resources Bill, 2020.

Mzondu’s motion sought the withdrawal of the Bill, owing to the public outcry against it and its breach of House’ Rules.

In presenting his Matter of Privilege, Rep. Mzondu cited Order 6, Rule 1(1), 2 and 3, as he argued forcefully, against the transmission of the Bill to the Senate and its finally becoming law.

According to him, “I wish to refer to Order 6, Rule 1(1), 2 and 3 and Order 12, Rule 18 to state that I was deprived of my legislative Privilege of sighting a gazetted copy of the National Water Resources BillHB 921, and such could not participate in the consideration of the report by the Committee of the Whole, which also deprived me of my rights and privilege of representation to my people.

“Mr. Speaker, Hon. Colleagues, it is in the effort to eliminate the “Element of Surprise”, that the House in its wisdom, included in its Standing Rule, that every Bill, must be gazetted or clean copies circulated. It is important to note that the word emphasized here, is “gazette”, which means appearing in the Bills Journal of the House.

“The words used are clear and unambiguous, they ought to be given their ordinary meaning, as stated.

“Mr. Speaker, Hon. Colleagues, I was misled by the use of order 12, Rule 18 of our Standing Orders. Mr. Speaker, Hon. Colleagues, it is an issue of law and procedure, and Hon. Speaker, the onus of interpretation, lies with you. Where the Bill was labeled as Bill 2020, it was not considered as such.

“The laws lay, on your shoulder to interpret these rules as stated in Order 7 Rule 1(7). It is important to emphasize that I have painstakingly searched through all the journals of the House, and cannot find where the Bill is gazetted and I stand to be challenged or corrected.

“The next question for your consideration, Hon. Speaker, deals with jurisdiction, whether the House such powers to entertain a bill, such proceedings become a nullity, ab initio no matter how conducted and decided”.

” So having not met this condition, I wish to move, relying on Order8 Rule 8 and the above-stated rules, that “The House do rescind/expunge its decision of 23rd July 2020, which adopted the National Water Resources Bill, 2020 HB921 to have been read the Third time from our records”.

His latter prayers were granted, after a prolonged debate from both sides of the legislative divide, as the Speaker ordered for the withdrawal of Bill.

“Fundamental issues have been raised by Hon. Mzondu. He has backed them up, with a clear language, that such bills, must be re-gazetted”, Gbajabiamila said.

While the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rep. Idris Wase who argued against Mzondu’s position, stressed that the Bill followed due process in its passage.

Wase’s argument was buttressed by the sponsor of the Bill, Rep. Sada Soli(APC-Katsina), and the Chairman of the Rules and Business Committee, Rep.Hassan Fulata(APC-Jigawa).

Lawmakers, led by Rep. Kingsley Chinda(PDP-Rivers), however, put up a strong defense for Mzondu’s submission, leading to the decision of the Speaker to Order for the withdrawal of the Bill, for a fresh gazetting.

Recall that the same Bill which was earlier introduced as Executive Bill was killed in the Senate, but passed in the House. The instrument, however, couldn’t be retransmitted to the Senate for Senate’s concurrence before the 8th Assembly lapsed.

Covenant University Releases Video After Being Called Out For Not Conducting COVID-19 Test

Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State has released a video showing procedures students must follow as the varsity resumes after months of lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemi, Igbere TV reports.

The video followed allegations by a Twitter user @booghy_ who claimed to be a female student of the school. The alleged student wrote on Monday that the school was not conducting COVID-19 test on returning students.

The Twitter user also called on the Ogun State Government to look into the matter.

Quote:“Covenant University is not doing covid-19 test for students! They lied to our parents. They are only doing pregnancy and drug test! I resumed today and all they did was take my urine and blood sample.

“@ogsgofficial please help! I am scared to my wits! Retweet when you see this,” the alleged student said.

She continued: “They brought out only 2 canopies to search and test us. We were so many! Rain fell and they left us under the rain. Our provisions were destroyed and our luggages soaked to the last.

“One of the staffs even said that if any of us is infected, that we should not worry that papa is praying. That we should forget COVID-19.

“And to top it all, in the hostels, we are FOUR in a room! FOUR! No difference from every other semester before COVID-19.”

September 29, 2020

FILE: Arik Air

The negotiation between workers of Arik and the management has slowly nosedived into a deadlock, The PUNCH has learnt.

It was gathered that none of the conditions which caused the staff to embark on a strike action on September 14th, 2020 had been met.

The Chairman of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Arik Air, Innocent Atasie, said the workers were offered 50 per cent of their basic, transport and housing allowances as terminal benefits.

Atasie also alleged that some of the staff maybe be sacked as the carrier was unwilling to recall 90 per cent of the workers still at home.

He said, “They offered us 50 per cent of our basic, transport and housing multiplied by the number of years one has been in Arik Air. Arik Air salary is very poor. We have people that earn as low as N40,000- N45,000.”

Atasie also raised alarm over the issue of unremitted pensions as 19 persons had not received their pensions after leaving the airline.

An Anambra couple have been called out for maltreating their 8-year-old househelp.

The couple identified as Mrs Ogochukwu Anichukwu and Mr. Emmanuel Anichukwu were accused of flogging the little girl mercilessly and starving her repeatedly. It was further gathered that the girl has been seen several times eating sand because of starvation.

The couple were recently dragged to the human right legal initiative in Ekwulobia, Anambra State following the injury the 8-year-old househelp sustained after allegedly being poured hot water by Ogochukwu.

The lady reportedly poured hot water on her househelp because she caught her licking milk meant for her baby.

Facebook user, Jane Iyke who shared their photos wrote;

Quote:This case is before Human right legal initiative Ekwulobia Anambra State already but if you know this girl Mma from Awgu Enugu State, kindly advise the family to come and pick their child before they bring her back in corpse.
This child is living with Mrs Ogochukwu Anichukwu from Ndikelionwu and Mr. Emmanuel Anichukwu from Enugu State as a househelp in Nanka Anambra state.
This girl's offense was that she licked the milk meant for her baby, she poured hot water on her and locked her inside so that neighbors won't see her in that state.
The neighbours confirmed to have seen the girl eating sand severally because of starvation. She's now used to flogging which was why the woman used hot water this time.
The neighbor that reported to the Human rights legal aid according to them entered their house unexpectedly and caught Mma trying to run inside to avoid been seen as she was vehemently warned not to allow anyone see her.
The girl is now in the hospital for proper medical care.

8 year old girl ‘gang raped by 14 pedophiles' before gang leader’s mum threatens to kill victim if she tells police

An eight year old was repeatedly gang raped by 14 men in Sudan and then the gang leader's mum threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it according to reports.

The  young child says she was brutally abused on several occasions after going to play with a friend at her neighbour's house and the ordeal only came to light after the girl asked her father who is separated from her mum if she could leave her mum and go and live with him instead.

He says he noticed she was anxious and had lost her appetite when she asked the question.

The victim revealed how she went to her neighbour's house to play, and her friend's brother would lead her to another room where he and 13 other fiends raped her.

She also claims the rapist's mother knew what was going on.
"She threatened to kill me if I told someone what had happened," the girl said.
The girl and her father joined protesters in the Sudanese capital Khartoum last week demanding the death penalty for all child rapists.

She was pictured holding a sign which reads: "I am the child who was raped, eight and a half years old, by my neighbour and 13 others.
"I appeal to the minister of justice for retribution in a public domain."

Her father says he has spent "five months knocking on doors of the prosecutors to restore my daughter's rights."

He has reportedly filed a legal case naming 17 people including the ring leader.

Lesbian lovers dismembered man to use his fingerprints to steal $77,120, then kept his head for themselves

Prosecutors in Portugal have alleged two lesbian lovers dismembered a man so they could use his fingerprints to access his mobile phone and steal $77,120 from his bank account.

The lovers, one a security worker known as Maria Malveiro, 19, and 23-year-old nurse Mariana Fonseca (both pictured below) are accused of throwing Diogo Goncalves' torso into the sea, but keeping hold of his head.

[Image: 5f7313bb06441.webp][Image: 5f7313cc79214.webp]

According to prosecutors in Portugal preparing to put the pair on trial this October, Malveiro is said to have admitted to an Algarve judge who questioned her after the crime they were inspired by US police series Dexter.

Diogo (pictured below) was strangled to death on March 18 and the woman allegedly threw his torso into the sea from cliffs in the Algarve town of Sagres

Four days later they used a print from a finger they had cut off his right hand to access his mobile and transfer the cash, then waited another 24 hours to dump the rest of his body.

The indictment says they spent the three days between March 20 and 23 sending messages from his Facebook account to fool colleagues and friends into believing he was still alive.

They will be tried for murder, desecrating a body, computer fraud and using a stolen vehicle.

According to reports, Malveiro took advantage of the fact Diogo was attracted to her her to give him an orange juice laced with sedative Diazepam after promising him a lap dance at his home.

They both then allegedly strangled him and dismembering him.

The women allegedly tried to make it look as if he had killed himself by leaving the car overlooking the sea in Cape St Vincent in Sagres but investigators found out their plan after they threw away the torso because it failed to land in the water and ended up on dry land, leaving vital clues.

A former staff of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Oreoluwa Adesakin, has been sentenced to 98 years in prison by Justice Muniru Olagunju of Oyo High Court for fraud.

A statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, said Adesakin was found to have committed financial fraud against her employers to the tune of N49,320,652.32 and an additional $368,203.00 belonging to the bank, which she converted to personal use.

She was prosecuted by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 14-count charges bordering on stealing, forgery, and fraudulent accounting.

One of the charges read

Quote:“That you Oreoluwa Adesakin sometime between the months of May 2013 and November 2013, at Ibadan within the Ibadan Judicial Division, whilst being a staff of First Bank PLC stole the sum of N25,974,116.13 from First Bank PLC MoneyGram Payment Naira Account, the property of First bank PLC.”

She pleaded not guilty to all the charges, which necessitated her trial.

EFCC counsel, Usman Murtala, presented every vital document and witnesses which nailed the convict. The judge noted the EFCC amassed a pool of incontrovertible evidence against the convict and did a diligent investigation and prosecution.

He pronounced Adesakin guilty of all the charges, sentencing her to seven years in prison without an option of fine on each of the 14 counts, which will run concurrently.

Apart from the jail term, the convict is also to restitute the First Bank, through the EFCC, all the money she stole.

According to EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, Adesakin was arraigned April 4, 2014, by the EFCC following a conclusion of investigations against her which arose from a petition from her former employer, dated December 18, 2013.

The bank alleged in the petition that Adesakin, as its Money Transfer Operator, who was saddled with the responsibility of effecting payments through Western Union Money Transfer and Money Gram platforms, fraudulently manipulated accounting and withdrew N49,320,652.32 and another $368,203.00 for herself, which the bank only uncovered while reviewing its internal account.

The EFCC was also able to establish that Adesakin used part of the proceeds of her crime to acquire landed properties in different parts of Oyo State.

Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore has called on singer Burna Boy to join the #RevolutionNow protest planned for October 1, Igbere TV reports.

Sowore made the call in a message he shared on social media on Tuesday.

According to the former presidential candidate, many describe Burna Boy as a revolutionary musician and he has been likened to the late afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.

Quote:Questioning the musician’s activism, Sowore wrote “I am yet to see you lead anyone to a police station carrying a coffin for head of state!”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CFuK-JHnULR/?igshid=eox7vum2cdzv

Sowore leads a group known as Coalition for Revolution (CORE), organisers of #RevolutionNow protest.

The first protest was staged in August 5, 2019 and the second edition on the same date in 2020.

Igbere TV reports that the October 1 protest is planned to hold in all 36 states across Nigeria as well as in London, Sweden, Netherlands, San Francisco, New York, Washington DC, Germany and Canada.

Burna Boy had not responded to Sowore’s invitation as at the time of filing this report.

The musician has, whoever, said he does not feel good about comparison to Fela.

“I don’t think anybody in their right mind would compare me to Fela.

“Fela is my inspiration and my childhood hero, so if you think comparing me to Fela is honourable, it’s actually not.

“It actually makes me feel weird. Fela was Fela, and if it wasn’t for Fela, there probably wouldn’t be any me, so I don’t understand the comparison,” Igbere TV reports that the Grammy nominee said in a GQ interview earlier in the year.

Buhari: 'I Fought Corruption Headlong As A Military Leader'
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-29-2020, 06:18 PM - No Replies

Quote:Buhari seeks stronger collaboration to end corruption

For Nigeria to successfully win the war against corruption, all sectors must collaborate better in a bid to end the menace that has hindered the country from making progress and becoming a greater nation that would be the envy of Africa and the world.

President Muhammadu Buhari made the assertion yesterday while restating his administration’s commitment to end corruption in the country.

He, therefore, sought a stronger collaboration among all tiers of government to tame the menace ravaging the country.

President Buhari spoke in Abuja at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) second National Summit on Diminishing Corruption and launch of the National Ethics and Integrity Policy to mark the 20th anniversary of its establishment.

The Policy was put together by the ICPC, in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

The President also charged Nigerians to join the government in combating the menace and return the country to the values of honesty and integrity.

His words: “As military Head of State, I fought corruption headlong and held public officers who abused their offices or misused public funds to the account.”

I introduced the War Against Indiscipline (WAI), one of whose cardinal objectives was to promote ethical conduct, integrity, and hard work.

“In 1984, I recognised, as I do now that corruption poses a clear danger to Nigeria, so, we cannot relent in efforts to eradicate it in all its ramifications. As I have often reminded Nigerians that if we do not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria.

“Also in my inaugural speech in 2015, I affirmed my administration’s determination to rebuild and reform the public service to become more effective and serviceable. I charged public servants to apply themselves with integrity to stabilise the system and solicited the cooperation of the legislature to maintain their brief of making laws and carrying out oversight functions.

“We must all join hands together to fight corruption and return to our traditional values of honesty and integrity. I hereby use the opportunity of this summit to launch the National Ethics and Integrity Policy as a fresh roadmap to return Nigeria to these critical national values.”

President Buhari, who underscored the significance of setting up the ICPC, further canvassed a reform of the country’s judiciary system so as add fillip to the fight against corruption.

Speaking to State House correspondents, President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, argued that when prosecution of indicted corrupt persons lingered too long, indicated that something was wrong and tacit support for graft.

He pointed out a judiciary that works to ensure that corruption cases were treated with dispatch would help in the fight against corruption.

Responding, Chief Justice of the Federation, Mohammed Tanko, stressed that the judiciary was ready to contribute its quota in the fight against corruption.

Boss Mustapha: Nigeria May Break Up, It Has Cracks
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:SGF: There’re obvious cracks… Nigeria may break up

Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), has warned that Nigeria risks breaking up if its current challenges are not addressed.

The SGF gave the warning while speaking at an interdenominational church service to commemorate Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary in Abuja, on Sunday.

Mustapha, who represented Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the event, likened the nation’s challenges to the biblical story of Nehemiah who prayed to God when he faced some challenges in trying to return to Jerusalem.

He said Nigeria currently has cracks in its walls which he said “signifies the essence of the state of the nation”.

“The story should be a challenge to every Christian in Nigeria. It’s only that kind of Nehemiah’s love that will make us, as Nigerians, to rebuild the cracks we have in our walls today,” he said.

“For us in Nigeria, Nehemiah should be taken as a metaphor for those Nigerians who either reside in Nigeria or outside, to cry to God to use the abandoned opportunities in Nigeria to address our challenges of nation building.

“Fortunately for us, our walls are not yet broken but there are obvious cracks that could lead to a break if not properly addressed.

“Nehemiah started with fervent prayers, seeking the face of God and pleaded with his king to allow him return to Jerusalem to rebuild the broken walls because wall signifies peace, security, contentment and prosperity.”

Quote:Speaker, 9 other duly inaugurated Edo Assembly members, visit, congratulate Obaseki

The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Hon. Francis Okiye and nine (9) other duly inaugurated members of the assembly, have congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki, on his reelection.

The assembly members who visited the governor at Government House, in Benin City, on Monday, included Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje, Hon. Yekini Idiaye and Hon. Nosa Okunbor, who are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the speaker, “I am in Government House with the other nine members inaugurated to congratulate Governor Godwin Obaseki on his victory in the just-concluded governorship election in the state.”

He added that “members of the state assembly rejoice and congratulate the governor on his reelection as the assembly remains united. We are here as one indivisible, united family. You can see that 10 of us were inaugurated and we are all here to congratulate the governor and appreciate God for the victory granted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last governorship election.”

The majority leader of EDHA, Hon. Henry Okhuarobo noted that at inception, the members of the state assembly inaugurated were 12 in number, before two out of the 12 absconded while 10 remained in the House for over one year and five months, adding that five months to the election, three out of the 10 members pitched tent with the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their own political reasons.

Okhuarobo maintained that there is no faction in the Edo State House of Assembly as the legislators remain one, noting, “As we speak, we are back to the assembly and we remain one. The issue of faction is not there as we remain one house. We have seven members of PDP in the house while three members are of the APC.”

The three APC legislators who joined the PDP assembly members during the visit to the governor are Emmanuel Agbaje, Yekini Idiaye and Nosa Okunbor.

Ondo Guber: APC Will Lose Over Anti-People Policies - Segun Sowum
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-29-2020, 01:55 PM - No Replies

Quote:Akure- Spokesman for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Segun Sowumi has declared that the people of Ondo State would vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the October 10, 2020 due to its anti-people policies.

He said the recent hike in fuel price and electricity tariff would affect the performance of the APC in the poll.

Sowumi handed down the verdict on Monday while addressing a section of the media in Akure the state capital on the October 10 gubernatorial election in the state.

According to him, “If a governor has been elected for the past four years, a second term election for him is a referendum. Because the people can engage in whatever he has been doing and take a decision on it. Has he done well to the people on education, health? The answer is no. Has he done well to the people on poverty alleviation, social harmony? The answer is no.

“Everywhere you turn, you hear people say they’ve been hijacked by a filially of family relationship that leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

“When you look at their programmes and policies. Political parties run on ideology and manifesto, no descent Nigerian would say he’s happy with APC. And there’s nothing to differentiate between APC at the national and the APC at the state because they are like two sides of same coin.

“You can’t have the people of Ondo deal with increase in fuel price and electricity tariff occasioned by the Federal Government, and then have their governor increased their school fees by 500 percent and cancelled the Mother and Child programme for the people. There’s a pattern in APC, they are anti-people.”

Sowumi stated that the Peoples Democratic Party’s standard bearer, Eyitayo Jegede was that right person the people of the state needed to turn their fortune round.

He said: “It’s the turn of the man who can get the job done. The difference between Jegede and their candidate is beyond the primordial sentiment.

“A governor in Ondo must be good enough for all the tribes in Ondo and even for all the settlers, visitors and every resident of the state. Except you don’t know who the Ondo people are.

“The conglomeration of people who formed Ondo are very principled, determined people and fiercely independent. Yes, some small sentiments would play, but not big enough to override competence, capacity, good character, what you call Omoluabiism.”

The PDP chieftain noted that the reception being received by Jegede in everywhere he went had revealed that the people of the state had made up their mind to reject the APC-led government in the state.

According Sowumi, “I will tell you that perhaps not winning the first time was a blessing in disguise, because wherever we went with our candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, the reception has been really heavy. The people troop out. The energy level is great.

“Across all levels, even against the pattern that in some areas that everyone goes with their sons even in Owo. I must tell you, this is different. We will do well. Ondo people are ready for us and we are ready to serve them.”

N2.67bn meant for school feeding programme during lockdown found in private accounts –ICPC says

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC says it has uncovered up to N2.67 billion meant for school feeding during the COVID-19 lockdown in personal bank accounts.

The Chairman of ICPC, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, disclosed this on Monday, September 28, while delivering a keynote address at the second National Summit on Diminishing Corruption with the theme: “Together Against Corruption and the launch of the National Ethics and Integrity Policy” held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The ICPC chairman also disclosed that it recently uncovered over N2.5 billion diverted by a deceased senior civil servant in the Ministry of Agriculture and his cronies. He highlighted other assets recovered in the Agric ministry to include 18 buildings, 12 business premises and 25 plots of land.

According to Owasanoye, under the Open Treasury Portal review carried out between January to August 15, 2020, out of 268 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), 72 of them had cumulative infractions of N90 million. He said while 33 MDAs tendered explanations that N4.1 billion was transferred to sub-TSA, N4.2 billion paid to individuals had no satisfactory explanations.

Quote:“We observed that transfers to sub-TSA was to prevent disbursement from being monitored. Nevertheless, we discovered payments to some federal colleges for school feeding in the sum of N2.67 billion during lockdown when the children are not in school, and some of the money ended up in personal accounts. We have commenced investigations into these finding.”Owasanoye said

The ICPC boss also said under its 2020 constituency and executive projects tracking initiative, 722 projects with a threshold of N100 million (490 ZiP and 232 executive) was tracked across 16 states.

He mentioned that a number of projects described as ongoing in the budget were found to be new projects that ought to have been excluded in order to enable the government to complete existing projects.

He also observed the absence of needs assessment resulted in projects recommended for communities that do not require them being abandoned; projects sited in private houses on private land thus appropriating common asset to personal use, hence denying communities of the benefit; absence of synergy between outgoing project sponsors and their successors.

Owasanoye added that the commission also found that uncompleted projects sponsored by legislators who do not return get abandoned to the loss of the community and the state; use of companies owned by sponsor’s friends or relatives or companies belonging to civil servants in implementing MDAs to execute projects which are abandoned or poorly performed; conspiracy between legislative aides of sponsors and implementing MDAs and contractors to undermine the quality of project without knowledge of the sponsor; vague project description that results in the diversion of funds by implementing MDAs or project sponsor with the collusion of contractors and absence of community ownership of the project because they were not consulted or largely ignorant of projects allocated to them.

Prof Owasanoye said in the education sector, 78 MDAs were reviewed and common cases of misuse of funds were uncovered.

He listed some of the discoveries to include life payment of bulk sums to individuals/staff accounts, including project funds; non-deductions/remittance of taxes and IGR; payments of unapproved allowances, bulk payment to microfinance banks, payment of arrears of salary and other allowances of previous years from 2020 budget, payment of salary advance to staff, under-deduction of PAYE and payment of promotion arrears due to surplus in Personnel Cost, abuse and granting of cash advances above the approved threshold and irregular payment of allowances to principal officers.

  Emmanuel Uduaghan Returns To PDP
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 09-29-2020, 08:57 AM - No Replies

Quote:Former governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, officially returns to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Uduaghan had left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the build-up to the 2015 general elections and contested for the Delta South Senatorial district ticket but lost to incumbent Senator James Manager of the PDP.

Unconfirmed reports last week had it that Chief Uduaghan was at the verge of returning to the PDP after a closed-door meeting with Chief James Ibori, a former governor of the state.
Ibori regaled as the political godfather of Delta politics was said to have met Uduaghan along with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa at the Government House, Asaba as well as in Oghara, the country home of Ibori. Scores of Uduaghan’s supporters, who are currently at Abigboro, the Itsekiri home of the former governor, are on the ground for the official defection to the PDP.

The ceremony is holding today at Unit 1, Ward 6, Abigborodo, Warri North Local Government Area of the state. Uduaghan was governor of Delta on the PDP platform for eight years (2007-2015), he was also a Commissioner for Health and later Secretary to the State Government under the administration of former Governor Ibori. The former governor was said to have had a frosty relationship with his successor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, also a medical doctor, leading to his defection to APC.

He, thereafter, formed an unrewarding alliance with ousted APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and other chieftains of the party in Delta State even as he made an unsuccessful effort to unite the APC tendencies in the state.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER.

A SURE WAY TO EXERCISE YOUR SPIRIT.

But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come (1 Timothy 4:7-8).

Exercising yourself unto godliness means exercising your human spirit, which is the real you. And one sure way to exercise your spirit is praying in tongues; it keeps your spirit aglow and afire for God. Jude 1:20 says, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.” 1 Corinthians 14:4 says, “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself..."

Christians who regularly pray in tongues are more attuned to the things of the Spirit. They’re more sensitive and responsive to the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit; no slothfulness in them. When you pray often in tongues, your spirit is trained and ready for dynamic evangelism.

Cultivate the habit of starting out your day speaking in tongues. Then at regular intervals during the course of your day, pray in tongues. The beautiful thing is, you can speak in tongues under your breath even while at work or conducting your business. It’s the fastest way to activate and energize your spirit.

There’re people who are more concerned about keeping their bodies fit than paying the most attention to exercising their spirits. As you train yourself to pray often in other tongues, apart from the many other benefits it has on your life, it’ll open your spirit to receive and understand God’s Word and enhance your walk in the divine life.

PRAYER

Dear Father, how I love your Word! Thank you for showing me how to exercise and energize my spirit through speaking in tongues. My spirit is activated to receive your guidance today; and I’m making tremendous progress in my life, and the work of the ministry, from glory to glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

1 Timothy 4:7-8 AMPC But refuse and avoid irreverent legends (profane and impure and godless fictions, mere grandmothers’ tales) and silly myths, and express your disapproval of them. Train yourself toward godliness (piety), [keeping yourself spiritually fit]. 8 For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.

1 Corinthians 14:4 AMPC He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself, but he who prophesies [interpreting the divine will and purpose and teaching with inspiration] edifies and improves the church and promotes growth [in Christian wisdom, piety, holiness, and happiness].
Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

#AFIRMATIONTRAIN

I affirm that I am mightily helped of the Lord to see my success, wisdom, health, wealth, progress, promotion, and every good thing I require to live the good, glorious and victorious life which the Father had called me into.

I am full of the wisdom of God, for Christ is made unto me wisdom! That Wisdom is in my heart and in my mouth today! I function in it; I am guided by it, and I am growing in it daily as I continually meditate on the word and fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

My faith is strong and operative, I refuse to cower in fear or timidity when faced with challenges or adverse situations, but I rise to the occasion, knowing that I am what God says I am and I have what He says I have and can do what He says I can do! I walk day after day by the light of God’s Word.

I am not moved by the natural circumstances that exist in the world. God’s Word is the light by which I operate in my job, finances, family, and everything that concerns me.

I am aware of God’s bountiful provisions for me, and I am enjoying them because I see by the greater light of His Word.

I am backed by God to rule and dominate my world with His Word. The Word of faith is in my heart and my mouth; as I speak it forth, it produces the desired result.

I am obtaining promises, producing righteousness everywhere I go and effecting great changes by the Word of God through faith. Through faith, I’ve overcome the world! Glory to God. Hallelujah!

God bless you

Nigeria at 60: I am extremely sad – Ozekhome

on
 September 28, 2020
[Image: Mike-Ozekhome-SAN.jpeg]

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Mike Ozekhome, has said that he was extremely sad about Nigeria at 60.

Ozekhome explained that after 60 years of existence as a nation, Nigeria still grapples with the issue of social justice, equity, religious and inter-ethnic tolerance.

He stated this on Monday in Abuja while articulating his thoughts on how the country has fared after 60 years as an independent nation, NAN reports.

He said: “I’m extremely sad about Nigeria at 60. Surely, a 60 year and above old man or woman, is already a senior citizen; a grandfather, or grandmother. I’m one.
“This means such a man or woman has grown; or is at least, presumed to have grown, in maturity and development but I’m sad that Nigeria, “our own dear native land” has neither developed nor matured.

“I’m sad that she hasn’t even been allowed to take full advantage of the various constitutions fashioned out by our Colonial Masters and various indigenous governments to give her meaningful nationhood after she was named “Nigeria” in 1897.

“It doesn’t matter that there is an absence of social justice, equity, egalitarianism, mutual respect, religious and inter-ethnic tolerance.”

“I am quite sad that we grow geometrically in population, yet, arithmetically in growth and development,” the lawyer continued.

“Nigeria, by available UN data, at mid-2020, ranks number 7 (2.64 per cent) in the list of most populated countries of the world, with a population of about 206,139,589 people.

“I’m sad indeed that we only operate civilian governments, but never democratic governments.”

Ozekhome also said that it was worrisome that young Nigerians were still struggling to obtain a mere first degree at ages 26-32.

“The same Nigeria had, once – upon – a – time, in the 50s and 60s, produced ministers, military governors and Heads of State at the same 26 – 32 age bracket.”
“Government’s wanton breach of citizens’ fundamental rights, reckless disregard to court orders, and brazen desecration of the rule of law.”

Recall that Nigeria will celebrate its 60th year anniversary as an independent country on October 1, but the Federal Government says the celebration will be low-key due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Muhammadu Buhari had said that the theme of this year’s anniversary celebration; “together shall we be” had been chosen to forge a more united and cohesive Nigeria.

Amaechi should be in jail, not a Minister – Wike fires back

on
 September 28, 2020
[Image: amaechi-wike-money.jpg]

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said his predecessor, former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi should not be walking free if Nigeria truly practices democracy.

Wike said the shutdown of Rivers State Judiciary under Rotimi Amaechi’s administration as Governor of the state was a violation of the rights of the people of the state.

The Governor said this during a live interview on AIT’s Focus Nigeria beamed from Government House, Port Harcourt in reaction to comments by Amaechi over the weekend.

He stated that in civilized climes, Amaechi should not be walking free or be appointed as a government official because of the closure of courts.

“With due respect to President Muhammadu Buhari, I think he shouldn’t have had such a man as a Minister. He (Amaechi) should be in jail for violation of human rights.

“How can somebody oversee the locking up of the judiciary? There was nowhere for people to ventilate their anger. Contracts were breached and people cannot go to court. People relied on police to settle their differences.

“A woman was detained the day she was to be given bail. A pregnant woman was to be given bail right on the day the courts were shut down. The woman gave birth in prison. Imagine that kind of a harrowing experience.

“And that is the man they say is one of the best Governors. No, he is not the best Governor,” Wike said.
On Amaechi’s investments in education, especially the building of model schools, Wike said the funds were wasted, adding that much more could have been achieved, “with the billions of naira”, spent on building new schools.

According to him, “What we are trying to do is that with the little resources we are getting, we are trying to renovate old schools through SUBEB.

“You know my former Governor; I worked with him, so I know him too well. When he is flying with people in the helicopter, he will be pointing his fingers and telling them see that school there, I built it. He is that kind of man. If he hadn’t started something, he would kill it.

“But when I see a project that will impact the lives of the people, I complete it. The Degema General Hospital which he started has been completed but when I see a political project, I have no business. So many roads he (Amaechi) did not do and the once he did not complete, I completed them.”

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi had lamented the recurring spate of insecurity and political intimidation in Rivers State.

Amaechi, a former Governor of the State, while speaking during the funeral service of the late Justice Adolphus Godwin Karibi-Whyte at Saint Augustine’s Anglican Church, Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, said fear has pervaded the state he bequeathed in 2015 but residents have failed to openly challenge the current administration.

“Everyone is scared. We are going back to when Ateke held sway. We are going back to the period where we run away from our people. We are back to a period when nobody can speak. But from next year, I will begin to speak, if nobody wants to speak,” Amaechi had said.

Take your useless Igbo presidency and give us Biafra – IPOB

The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has stated that it will continue its agitation for Biafra in spite of the ''promise'' of an Igbo presidency in 2023.

The proscribed group insists on observing the sit-at-home order by its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on October 1, 2020, adding that Biafra is non-negotiable.

IPOB in a statement released by its Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful, disclosed that the sit-at-home order is a ''peaceful protest of their discontent with the injustices, misrule, oppression, genocidal killings and other atrocities perpetrated by the government of Nigeria against Biafrans and other indigenous people. ''

The statement read;

Quote:"To those who think we can drop our agitation for Biafra because of their promise of Nigeria President of Igbo extraction in 2023 must be smoking mind bending drugs because their hallucinations will not get them anywhere.

“Take your useless ‘Igbo Presidency’ and give us Biafra. Biafra is non- negotiable and very soon we shall restore our dream republic!

“This order which is a peaceful protest of our discontent with the injustices, misrule, oppression, genocidal killings and other atrocities perpetrated by the government of Nigeria against Biafrans and other indigenous peoples in this British-created contraption must be observed throughout Biafraland.

“Any governor, political office holder, shameless poverty stricken Caliphate slave or Efulefu in Biafraland or anywhere in Nigeria who thinks he can endear himself to their Caliphate masters by issuing any counter directive must understand that what awaits every traitor in the history of liberation struggle is inevitably waiting for them.

“Those using the cover of political office to surrender Ebonyi State to the murderous Miyetti Allah terrorists and their counterparts using the name of inconsequential and roundly compromised socio-cultural groups to issue statements designed to attract Fulani patronage must be made to understand that treachery never pays.

“All markets and business premises in Biafraland must remain closed from 6am to 6pm on October 1st. The same way, Biafran traders outside Biafraland should stay away from their shops and business environment on that day.

“All roads in Biafraland must be deserted. Every motor-park should be under lock and key, it must remain closed. Motorists, tricycle and motorcycle operators should keep-off all roads in Biafraland.

“More importantly, parents and guardians should not make the mistake of allowing their children to step outside or gather in large numbers as terrorists are planning a deadly attack on that very day.”

Femi Fani-Kayode denies reports of planning to remarry

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has denied reports that he is set to take another wife.

There have been speculations that he is set to take Halima, the lady he is pictured above with, as a wife. The rumor became strong following the crash of his marriage to former beauty queen, Precious Chikwendu.

In a post shared on social media on Monday afternoon, September 28, FFK said the reports of him remarrying is false. He said that Halima, like many others, has been a source of comfort to him in ''this period.'' His post reads

Quote:''There have been wild speculations in the social media that I am planning to get married again. This is false.

Miss Halima Yusuf, who has been cited as my fiancee, is simply a dear friend and confidante who I have the utmost respect for and who I hold in high esteem.

She, together with others, has been a source of immense comfort for me and mine at this time and for this I am eternally grateful to her.

I appeal to all those peddling the falsehood that we are about to get married to please desist from doing so.''

Alleged human trafficking kingpin arrested in Lagos after 5 year manhunt

An alleged human trafficking kingpin, Muritala Sanni, has been arrested in Lagos after a five year manhunt.

A non-governmental organisation, Kick against Human Trafficking and Human Rights Abuse Foundation facilitated the arrest and handover to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for prosecution (NAPTIP)

It was gathered that Sanni was arrested last Wednesday, September 23, at his hideout in a hotel in the Amukoko area of Lagos State by policemen from the Amukoko Police Station.

Sanni was reportedly arrested after one of his victims was used as a bait to trick him to the hotel.

According to the president of Kick against Human Trafficking and Human Rights Abuse Foundation, Ojay Akinwale, his arrest was a major success for the organisation as his alleged trafficking network cut across Libya and East Africa.

Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the Public Relations Officer, NAPTIP, Hajara Tunde- Osho, said he will be prosecuted after investigation.

“The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, and handed over to us on Thursday, September 24, 2020. We will carry out our investigation and prosecute him afterwards,” she said.

36 State Governors Drag Buhari To Supreme Court

Quote:36 states drag FG to Supreme Court over courts’ funding

The 36 states of the federation have gone before the Supreme Court to challenge the Presidential Executive Order No. 00-10 of 2020 signed in May by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on the funding of the courts.

The 36 states, who filed the suit through their respective attorneys general, are seeking an order of the Supreme Court quashing Buhari’s Executive Order for being unconstitutional.

The sole respondent in the suit is the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

In the suit filed on their behalf by nine Senior Advocates of Nigeria, led by a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Augustine Alegeh (SAN); and six other lawyers, the 36 states explained that Buhari, by virtue of the Executive Order he signed on May 20, 2020, had pushed the Federal Government’s responsibility of funding both the capital and recurrent expenditures of the state high courts, Sharia Court of Appeal and the Customary Court of Appeal, to the state governments.

They contended that Buhari’s Executive Order No. 00-10 of 2020 was a clear violation of sections 6 and 8(3) of the 1999 Constitution, which make it the responsibility of the Federal Government to fund the listed courts.

The 36 states, which said they had been funding the capital projects in the listed courts since 2009, are also praying the Supreme Court to order the Federal Government to make a refund to them.

“Since the 5th of May 2009, the defendant had not funded the capital and recurrent expenditures of the state high courts, Sharia Court of Appeal and the Customary Court of Appeal of the plaintiffs’ states, apart from paying only the salaries of the judicial officers of the said courts.

“The plaintiffs’ states have been solely responsible for funding the capital and recurrent expenditures of the state high courts, Sharia Court of Appeal and the Customary Court of Appeal of the plaintiffs’ states, which the defendant has failed and/or refused to fund,” they said.

Ich wei?, ich wei?, der Winter in Utah ist normalerweise schneereich und kalt. Ondo elections: If Akeredolu is not careful, I will enter Ondo – Wike warns

Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP National Campaign Council in the just concluded governorship election in Edo State, and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has warned that he may be forced to get involved directly in the Ondo State governorship election should the ruling All Progressives Congress drag him into their politics.

Wike issued the warning while reacting to comments by his Ondo State counterpart, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who accused him of being the godfather of Rivers politics.

Governor Akeredolu, had in a statement by Donald Ojogo, Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo State, said the people of the state will resist Wike’s “attempt to play the r noole of a godfather” in Ondo.

“Wike’s imperialistic approach was most unfortunate and unbecoming,” he said.

But Wike who maintained that he has no ambition to be a godfather to any politician said he won’t hesitate to campaign with the achievements of his party, the PDP.

“First of all, I don’t want to believe that Akeredolu can make such a statement. He does not have what it takes to make such a statement. Godfather of what and for who? We are the ones fighting against godfatherism.

“The question is that, have you (Akeredolu) done well for your people and my party is saying no, you have not done well and I believe so. Therefore, I am saying that Ondo people should protect their votes. They should repeat what happened in Edo.

“I still want to doubt that Akeredolu said that against me. And I am going to go and look for that Newspaper and read to be sure he did not say that.

“I want to see that he Akeredolu declared Wike persona non grata. He knows he can’t try that. If he tries it, then he is going to get into trouble. If they are not careful, I will be in Ondo,” Wike warns.

A man was left with a broken skull after police officers broke into his home in Abraka, Delta, with no search warrant and attacked him.

The 27-year-old man named Kelvin Ilome, was brutalized by a team led by Corporal Godspower, activist Harrison Gwamnishu reports.

"The rented apartment of a 27yr-old Kelvin Ilome was not spared as they forced their way into his house. He demanded for search warrant from these officers but was assaulted instead.

"These officers later took him to Divisional Police Headquarters Abraka where Corporal Godspower hit the victim on his head with a baton which in turn caused severe injuries on the head.

Court orders senator Elisha Abbo to pay N50 million for assaulting a nursing mother in a sex toy store

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has awarded N50 million in favour of the woman assaulted by Senator Elisha Abbo.

In 2019, a video went viral showing the assault play out in a sex toy store in Abuja.

Elisha Ishaku Abbo savagely attacked Osimibibra Warmate during a misunderstanding and the video caused outrage.

There was even more outrage in July 2020 when a court dismissed charges against Abbo. The magistrate ruled that the evidence and exhibits tendered to the court did not prove the criminal charges against the lawmaker, despite a video recording showing the assault and an apology from the senator admitting his wrong.

Weeks after the magistrate court found the senator not guilty of criminal assault, the FCT High Court found Senator Elisha Abbo liable for his assault on Osimibibra Warmate. The court has ordered him to pay 50 million Naira.

The judgement comes after Osimibibra Warmate initiated a civil claim for damages.

PFAs invest N7.43tr in Fed Govt securites in Q2

Acting Director General, PenCom,

OF the pension fund assets worth N11.09 trillion recorded by Pension Fund Administration (PFAs) in the Second Quarter of the year, about N7.43 trillion or 67 per cent, was invested in Federal Government Securities, the Acting Director-General, National Pension Commission (PenCom), Mrs Aisha Umar-Dahir, has said.

She made this known in a document on pension fund investment released over the weekend entitled: “PenCom Second Quarter 2020 Report”, obtained by The Nation.

She stated that the 67 per cent investment Federal Government Securities was traded with an allocation of 57 per cent in FGN Bonds, nine per cent in Treasury Bills, one per cent in Sukuk Bonds, while less than one per cent was allocated to Agency Bonds and Green Bonds.

She said the value of investments in Domestic Quoted Ordinary Shares was N524.77 billion, which represents five per cent of the assets under management as at June 30, an increase of N82.82 billion or 18.74 per cent compared to the value of N441.94 billion as at March 31, 2020.

She said the increase in the value of investments in domestic quoted equities, was primarily due to the appreciation of some stocks prices during the reporting period, as the Nigerian Stock Exchange All Share Index (NSE-ASI) appreciated by 15.05 per cent from 21,300.47 basis points as at March 31, 2020 to 24,479.22 bps as at June 30, 2020.

Mrs Dahir-Umar stated that the value of investments in FGN Bonds increased by N706.41 billion, or 12.60 per cent, FGN Sukuk by N27.43 billion and Agency Bonds by N0.52 billion, while investments in Treasury Bills decreased by N297.53 billion or 22.58 per cent.

She explained that the reduction in the value of the Treasury Bills was due to maturities and reallocation to other asset classes, mainly FGN Bonds and other Money Market Securities.

She added that the total value of pension fund assets based on unaudited valuation reports grew from N10.33 trillion as at March 2020 to N11.09 trillion as at June, 2020, representing a growth of 7.36 per cent, noting that the growth was mainly due to market valuation of quoted equities.

Three police officers returning from Edo election to Lagos die in crash

Three policemen who participated in the September 19 governorship election in Edo state and were returning to Lagos have died in a fatal accident that occurred on the Benin-Ore Expressway in Ondo State.

The deceased were returning back to their base alongside some of their other colleagues when the vehicle they were traveling in got involved in the accident.

While the others sustained different degrees of injury, the three police officers died on the spot and their bodies have been deposited in the morgue at the Ore General Hospital.

Quote:“An accident claimed three policemen while on our way back from election duties in Edo State last Sunday, September 20, 2020. One of the victims was Corporal Oluwafemi Adeyanju, an indigene of Ondo State, where the accident occurred.

The other two policemen were inspectors. I was also deployed in Edo State for the election and we had completed the national assignment and were coming home when the accident happened in Ore and three of my colleagues were killed.

“Apart from the three policemen, who died on the spot, others sustained varying degrees of injury. The family of Adeyanju has gone to claim his remains and buried him in his home town of Akure.

We don’t know about the rest of the victims. When we were departing for Edo State, more than 80 buses parked outside the gate of the police command’s headquarters in Ikeja and conveyed us to Edo State.” an officer who was also invovled in the accident said

The state police command is yet to comment on the unfortunate incident.

Present cracks may lead to Nigeria’s break-up - Vice President Yemi Osinbajo warns

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has warned that Nigeria may break up if efforts are not made to address the "existing cracks."

Osinbajo gave the warning while speaking at an interdenominational church service to commemorate Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary on Sunday, September 27.

The Vice-President who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, at the National Ecumenical Centre, where the anniversary service was held, said efforts to mend the crack might be opposed, but such opposition would be defeated with focus and consistent prayers.

Making reference to the biblical story of how Nehemiah championed the rebuilding of the broken walls of Jerusalem, Vice President Osinbajo said

Quote:“The story should be a challenge to every Christian in Nigeria. It’s only that kind of Nehemiah’s love that will make us, as Nigerians, to rebuild the cracks we have in our walls today.

For us in Nigeria, Nehemiah should be taken as a metaphor for those Nigerians who either reside in Nigeria or outside, to cry to God to use the abandoned opportunities in Nigeria to address our challenges of nation-building.

Fortunately for us, our walls are not yet broken, but there are apparent cracks that could lead to a break if not adequately addressed.

Nehemiah started with fervent prayers, seeking the face of God and pleaded with his king to allow him to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the broken walls because the wall signifies peace, security, contentment and prosperity. It represents the essence of the state of the nation.

There’s an urgent need for a Nehemiah in our country, Nigeria, today. And like Nehemiah faced opposition in his efforts to rebuild the walls, any Nigerian that desires to rebuild Nigeria must also be ready to face stiffer opposition which will come in torrents. It can only be diffused by consistent focus and prayers.”

Wike & Amaechi Exchange Words At The Burial Of Adolphus Karibi -Whyte
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-28-2020, 08:59 AM - No Replies

Quote:Rivers State Governor , Nyesom Wike, and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday engaged in a verbal fight at the burial of a former Justice of the Supreme Court , Adolphus Karibi -Whyte, in the Abonnema, Akuku - Toru Local Government Area of the state .

Amaechi, who is the Minister of Transportation , while speaking at the funeral service , lamented what he term the rising insecurity and political intimidation in the state , saying the state was back to the time of Ateke Tom , a former militant leader , who is now the traditional head of Okochiri town in Okrika LGA of the state .

“ You have lost your voice . The sage ( the late justice ) has gone under and nobody is speaking . When I was governor , I gave people voices , but they have blocked those voices .

“Everyone is scared . We are going back to when Ateke held sway . We are going back to the period where we run away from our people . We are back to a period when nobody could speak . But from next year , I will begin to speak , if nobody wants to speak .
“We are all here because we need to bury a man God has blessed . I have stopped travelling because of bad weather, but I told myself I must be here because of Justice Whyte.

“If you knew Justice ( Karibi -Whyte) very well, you will know I was close to him . I was one of the few people he mentored, ” Amaechi stated .
Wike on his part described the late Karibi -Whyte as an epitome of unshakable integrity , civility and dignity, but noted that comments credited to Amaechi were embarrassing.

Responding to Amaechi, Wike who was represented by his Chief of Staff , Chief Emeka Woke , said the minister had lost touch with developments in the state , adding that since the launching of Operation Sting by his administration , the security situation had improved greatly.

Wike said , “It is unfortunate for Amaechi to come to Kalabari land and accuse former President Goodluck Jonathan of not developing the area six years after he had left office .

“ I wonder why the former governor will choose to make such embarrassing remarks at the funeral of late Justice Karibi - Whyte, a man he ( Amaechi) claimed to be his mentor .”

PDP condemns fresh attack on Gov. Zulum’s convoy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the fresh attacks on two convoys of Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno along Maiduguri Baga Road, by Boko Haram insurgents, resulting in the death of security operatives attached to the governor.

The party in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan said the repeated attacks on the governor as well as the rising wave of terrorist attacks, was a sign of security compromises and lapses in the country, NAN reports.

He said the repeated attacks on the governor also stressed the need to immediately rejig the nation’s security `apparatus’.

“Our party is alarmed by the frightening situation where insurgents now have the temerity of repeated attacks on the armed convoy of a state governor.
“This highlights the nightmare being witnessed by ordinary compatriots, as soft targets, in various troubled areas across our dear nation.

“The PDP restates our call to President Muhammadu Buhari to heed the call by well-meaning Nigerians, including the two chambers of the National Assembly, to immediately rejig the nation’s security apparatchik.

“Mr President should rejig the nation’s security apparatus by replacing his service chiefs with fresh hands to effectively confront the security challenges facing our nation, ‘‘he said.

He also commiserated with the governor as well as the families of the victims of the incessant attacks and urged the governor not to be deterred.

“The PDP also salutes the gallantry of our troops fighting in the fronts in spite of the odds and urged Nigerians to remain prayerful and alert in this trying time,” he added.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER.

REFUSE THE “DIRTS” THAT CAN CLOG YOUR “WELLS”

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:38).

Isaiah 12:3 says, “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” Wells of salvation refer to all the blessings of Christ inherent in the deep recesses of your spirit. The Bible says out of your spirit are the issues of life.

You carry within you a fountain of blessings.
Now, the devil always seeks to block up “the wells.” Think about it in line with what happened in Bible days: whenever an invading force came into a city, they blocked up the wells in that city with dirt to frustrate the inhabitants. The wells were the people’s source of water—a spring of life, as it were.

Isaac suffered a similar ordeal in the hands of the Philistines. In Isaac’s case, the Bible records, “For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth…And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham…” (Genesis 26:15,18).

In the same way that the Philistines stopped the wells of water belonging to Isaac (in order to frustrate him), Satan seeks to clog the wells of living water in your spirit by ensuring the joy of Christ isn’t expressed in your life. He also wants to keep you from ministering the same joy to other people.

His tools for clogging your “wells” include bitterness, jealousy, hatred, resentment, unforgiveness, fear, and judgmental attitude. Don’t allow Satan plant such “dirts” in your life. He knows you can’t live happily, enjoy life or bless your world effectively when you’re angry, resentful and malicious.

Choose rather to let the joy and love of God radiate from within you to others every day and the devil will have no foothold in your life.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for your love that’s shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Spirit, and for the fullness of Christ in my heart. I’m riding through life gloriously, making progress with giant strides, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

I affirm that I’ve been chosen and ordained by God to be productive in all aspects of my life! I walk by faith, and not by sensory perception! I live from my spirit; therefore, the circumstances of life are subdued before me.

I live on God’s terms; I reason with the mind of Christ, and my outlook on life is from the perspective of the Word! There’s now no condemnation for me because I walk not after the flesh but after the spirit.

My spirit, soul, and body are under the dominion of the Word, and the influence of the Spirit! I have an unction from the Holy One!

That anointing is working in my body, finances, family, and all that concerns me. It sets me apart for greatness, causing me to spread and make progress on every side, to the glory of the Father.

Irrespective of daunting challenges, persecutions, hardships, and troubles, I remain steadfast, courageous, and bold in my commitment to the Gospel, and its spread around the world.

The Spirit of God strengthens me in my inner man and my youth is renewed like the eagles. I refuse to get old in my mind; rather, I open

my heart and mind to fresh ideas from God’s Spirit. Nothing can stop me, for I am daily vitalized and refreshed through the Word. When men are cast down, I am lifted, because of the lifting power of the Holy Spirit that’s at work in me!

Nothing is impossible with me for I hail from above. All the forces of life and nature are at my disposal, they work together for my good because I am the King’s kid.

I am conscious of my heavenly heritage and walk in the light of who I am; an associate of the God-kind! Glory to God.

God bless you

Quote:Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has suspended its planned nationwide strike that would have started today, Monday, September 28, in protest against the hike in pump price of fuel and electricity tariff.

Earlier, there were indications that the Federal Government and NLC might reach an agreement to avert the looming nationwide strike.

The Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo(SAN) tweeted that there was hope the industrial crisis might be avoided.

He stated on his verified Twitter handle(@fkeyamo): “Still negotiating with labour at exactly 12.34am. Some progress have been made. Concrete proposals on the table from both sides.

“Details being worked on by the temporary Secretariat. Gradually moving towards a point of convergence. Let’s hope….”

Furthermore, a source told Vanguard that it is possible the tariff will be suspended for two weeks, but said nothing specific about fuel pump price.

The source also said a joint government/Labour committee will be set up to review the issues within those two weeks.

Vanguard also learned that a communique is being hammered out, an indication that some sort of agreement had been arrived at.

Recall that Vanguard reported that the issue of pump price hike had links with IMF, the World Bank and other international finance bodies Nigeria is indebted to.

The Organised Labour in Lagos State has said all sectors would be shut from Monday.
He said airports, banks, and offices would not be allowed to function.

Deputy Vice President, Nigeria Labour Congress, Amaechi Asogwuni, spoke at a news conference on Sunday.

“No airport will be in operation in Nigeria; banks are not expected to function, so no business owners should risk himself, for Nigerian workers have taken that decision”, NAN quoted him as saying.

“We are the workers and we are withdrawing our services; we have the right to do so because protests are our constitutional right. And I believe we will enforce it; schools shall remain closed until this action ends.”

The labour leader appealed to Nigerians to join the protest.

He reminded them that it was part of their quota to democracy.

On the increase in petrol price, Asogwuni said the federal government should have engaged the organised labour and other stakeholders.

“The government did not do that at a time it ought to; it failed in its duty to engage labour before time. On the issue of electricity, the government had earlier had an interaction with labour in Kano and we discouraged it from proceeding.”

Hawks have rescued 10 women from an alleged human trafficking ring and arrested five people in early morning raids in Rustenburg and Kuruman.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, who confirmed the development on Sunday, September 27, said the women are from Limpopo, Lesotho and Namibia and were trafficked to work in brothels in Rustenburg and Kuruman. The brothels were disguised as bed and breakfast accommodation.
"The women were trafficked from neighbouring countries and used as sex slaves. The brothels were disguised as BnBs and the women were made to pay rent while working there," Mulaudzi explained.

According to Mulaudzi, the arrests were a culmination of an investigation which lasted more than a year.
"The investigation started in June 2019. Since then, we have been working on collecting intelligence," he said.

The investigation identified six suspects. One of them died in 2019, but the remaining five were arrested during a swoop on three properties, which began at 06:00 on Sunday, Mulaudzi said.

The Hawks are working with the Department of Social Development to take the rescued women to places of safety.
