Wike speaks on Obaseki leaving PDP again, APC’s plot against Jonathan

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said his Edo state counterpart, Godwin Obaseki, will not leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after winning a second term in the governorship election held last Saturday.

Obaseki defeated Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls with a margin of 84,336 votes.

Four years ago, Obaseki had contested under the platform of the APC, while Ize-Iyamu ran under the PDP.

Wike, while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, insisted Obaseki has promised he will not dump the party again.

“It is impossible, but assuming it happens, so what? That is politics.

“There is nothing wrong if the governor (Obaseki) believes that PDP is no longer the party for him to actualise his vision and mission.

“But he (Obaseki) has consistently told us that there’s no way he will leave PDP. If he does, for example, the people of Edo State will not be happy and he is somebody I have that trust in.

“The party clothed him and when it was raining gave him the umbrella,” he said.

Wike also claimed APC only exists, because strange bedfellows came together to conspire against former president, Goodluck Jonathan.

He said: “APC is not a political party. It’s people who came together to take power from PDP. That is the crisis they are having together.

“It’s a party of strange bedfellow that came together to conspire against the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

Gospel singer, Joe Mettle addresses rumour of marrying his wife because of unplanned pregnancy

Popular Ghanaian gospel singer, Joe Mettle has addressed rumour of getting married to his wife because of unplanned pregnancy.

Shortly after his marriage to Salomey Selassie Dzisah on 15th August 2020, there have been pockets of rumours suggesting that his wife got pregnant which made him hurriedly walk down the aisle with her.

However in an interview with Zionfelix, Joe Mettle said the rumour is blatant falsehood and his lovely wife is not pregnant yet.

He said;

Quote:I don’t know where that is coming from but it is one of those things, You know me better if even there was any comment like that you won’t hear it from me. But they are the ones saying it but I don’t know.

You want me to say yes or no. Ok it’s not true, whatever story is out there is not true. Yes I hear it all but the beautiful thing about the ear is that it’s two, so when it enters at this side, it comes out at the other side“.

The gospel singer who further revealed that his wife is not the type who likes to be in the public or attract unwanted attention, added that family is private and they are keeping it that way.

Joe Mettle added;

Quote:I am the one who has my life out there, she’s a private person and it’s going be like that.

She makes the decision if she wants to be out there or not. And it’s private and it has to be private, Family is private, family is not public. It’s the music, the music is public but the family is private."

APC, PDP Fight Over Failure To Restructure Nigeria Since 1999
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-25-2020, 09:24 AM - No Replies

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Quote:The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday locked horns over the failure of the Federal Government to restructure the country since the return of democratic governance in 1999.

Firing the first salvo, the PDP, through Kola Ologbondiyan, its National Publicity Secretary, said despite riding to office in 2015 on the promise to restructure the country, the APC had failed to do so five years after, and had even rejected the report of the 2014 national conference which would have greatly helped in repositioning the country.

Speaking further, he said Nigerians should ask President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC why it had failed to act on the Governor Nasir el-Rufai-led committee on True Federalism which has submitted its report to the National Working Committee of the APC since January 2018.

Ologbondiyan said: “For us in the PDP, we did not, for one day, take the El-Rufai committee on restructuring seriously. Part of the campaign that was made by the APC in 2015 was restructuring".

“They have not, by any effort, come close to their own promise. In whatever way you look at the administration, it has manifestly failed".

“If you make promises, even if you can’t fulfil all, you can still walk around part of the promises and provide hope that even after you have left office, any office holder that is coming after you will be able to do part of what you have left behind. The reality is that this APC government is not prepared for restructuring.

“They cannot deal with it and they cannot fulfil any promise. In a tenure of eight years, we have had this government for five years.

By next year, politics will be in full swing while governance will take the backseat. So, what is left for them to do?”

Also reacting to the September edition of the in-house monthly magazine of the APC, The Progressives, titled ‘Calm Down! Restructuring Has Begun’, Ologbondiyan said the APC should disclose to Nigerians in which area it had restructured the country.

He said: “When you talk about restructuring, it appears to different people from different angles. There are those who believe in the devolution of power as restructuring. To these ones, to restructure Nigeria, power must be taken from the centre and given to states and local governments.

“There are others who believe that the 36 states and FCT are not working and, as such, we must go back to regionalism; that is also restructuring.

“There are those who believe that a bicameral legislature is too expensive and that we should go back to a unicameral legislature; that is also restructuring".

“There are those who believe that the states should be allowed to have their own police while there are others who believe that even the local councils should have their own police, it is still restructuring.

“There are those who believe that traditional rulers should be given roles in the constitution in such a manner that they can look over their domains; it is also restructuring.

“There are those who also believe that each state should be allowed to manage its resources and return a percentage of those resources to the centre, in order to enable the centre to run its affairs. That is also restructuring.

“So, there are various ways of restructuring that Nigerians have expectations. In all these angles of restructuring that I have explained, which one can you point to that the Buhari administration has attempted to implement? None!”

“So, as far as we are concerned in the PDP, we have seen the eight years of President Buhari as a passer-by years. We do not know in concrete terms what Nigerians will be able to point to after the eight years of his administration.”

However, Yekini Nabena, deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, admonished the PDP to explain to Nigerians why it failed to restructure Nigeria during its 16 years rule.

Accusing the PDP of still being bitter because of its defeat in the 2019 presidential election, the party wondered why the PDP suddenly woke up to realise that Nigeria needed to be restructured but failed to do so while it was in power between 1999 and 2015.

“The PDP was in power for 16 years, why didn’t they restructure the country if they knew it was very important to do so? That is the question Nigerians should ask them.

“The situation we have now is that those who have been defeated and forgotten are now seeking political relevance by making noise about restructuring. You have the pot of soup in your custody for 16 years but you refused to dish out the meal because it was to your benefit.

“I think the PDP is just being hypocritical and they do not have the love of the country at heart. After spending that humongous amount of money to set up the 2014 national confab, why did they fail to implement it? Who is fooling who?

“They should first answer that question before we proceed to the next.”

US 2020: Top Republicans dismiss Trump's refusal to commit to peaceful transfer of power if he loses election to Joe Biden

Top Republicans have dismissed US President Donald Trump's stunning refusal to commit to a peaceful transition of power if he loses the election to Joe Biden this November.

On Wednesday September 23, Trump refused to commit to providing a peaceful transition of power after Election Day, lending further fuel to concerns he may not relinquish his office should he lose in November, but many  Republicans on Capitol Hill, have now downplayed the remarks as merely rhetoric while others deflected questions about Trump's comments.

No American president has refused to transmit power since 1792 so
Trump's suggestion threatens a fundamental principle of American democracy.

"The President says crazy stuff. We've always had a peaceful transition of power. It's not going to change," said Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska.

House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy on Thursday insisted he is not concerned by the remarks.
"Let me be very clear to you: It'll be peaceful," McCarthy said, adding, "no questions, no qualms, no concerns, it's going to be peaceful."

The No. 2 Senate Republican, John Thune of South Dakota, told CNN.
"Republicans believe in the rule of law, we believe in the Constitution, and that's what dictates what happens (in) ... our election process and so yes,"

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (pictured below) weighed in on Thursday, although he didn't mention the president by name in a Thursday tweet.

"The winner of the November 3rd election will be inaugurated on January 20th. There will be an orderly transition just as there has been every four years since 1792,"

Mitt Romney of Utah, the only Senate Republican who voted to convict Trump during the President's impeachment trial, said:

"Fundamental to democracy is the peaceful transition of power; without that, there is Belarus. Any suggestion that a president might not respect this Constitutional guarantee is both unthinkable and unacceptable,"

Sen. Susan Collins, said she is "confident that we will see it occur once again.", referring to a smooth transition of power.
"I don't know what his thinking was, but we have always had a controlled transition between administrations. And I'm certain that if there's a change in administrations, that we have the calmness as well. It's fundamental to our democracy," she said.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham, in a difficult reelection race in South Carolina, said: "It will happen," referring to an orderly transition. "I'm not worried about that. It's the least of my concerns."
Graham added: "If there's a court challenge to the election, it will be decided in court. And the loser of the challenge will accept the results."

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

FRIDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER.

UNDERSTANDING GOD’S TIMING

Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard... (Daniel 10:12).

We’re in a very special dispensation in God’s Kingdom. Through the knowledge of the Word, we’re guided by the Spirit to walk in accordance with His plan and timing.

For example, in Daniel 9, the Bible tells us that Daniel, while in exile with the children of Israel, understood God’s timing as he studied the writings of Jeremiah the Prophet. He found out they were meant to be in that captivity for seventy years and had almost exhausted their time in captivity.

However, as nothing seemed to be changing, Daniel decided to seek the Lord in fasting and prayer to bring God’s programme into reality.

In the closing days of Jesus’ ministry in Israel, He wept over Jerusalem because they didn’t know the “time” of their visitation. The Lord whom they had been waiting for had come to them, but they didn’t know it. Many are like that today.

Make it your priority to be in sync with God’s will and timing for your life. Study the Scriptures avidly, and give time to prayer. We’re sent by God to enforce His will in the earth, using the Name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.

But if you don’t know God’s will and timing, things will happen in the earth that are neither in your interest nor in the Lord’s interest. This is why you must pray in the Spirit for the nations, for the Church of God, and for ministers of the Gospel around the world. Pray as though the kingdom depended on you, for it does. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Precious Father, thank you for seasons of the miraculous and manifestations of your works and blessings like never before, which will culminate in the rapture of the Church. I pray for the saints around the world who are facing severe persecutions and injustice, that they be strengthened to stand firm in all the will of God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Two Nigerian men, one woman arrested in Vietnam drug bust

Anti-narcotics police in Ho Chi Minh City, on Thursday, September 24, arrested two Nigerian nationals and one Vietnamese woman for trafficking methamphetamine.

Ochie Paul Ejike, 51, and his 35-year-old Vietnamese wife and business partner Ly Moc Kiu, along with fellow Nigerian Chukwuemeka Confidence Onyiriuka were identified as "major figures" in a drug trafficking ring monitored by police for several months prior to the arrests.

Earlier, police had found Chukwuemeka often received shipments of clothing from Cambodia at an apartment in Binh Tan District, though without any clothes ever seen being sold.

Every week, Chukwuemeka had met Ochie and his partner at various secret locations.
After months of monitoring, police identified the three as part of a drug trafficking ring in the city.

Last week, Kiu was driving on Quang Trung Street in Go Vap District when she was stopped by police. Officers subsequently found three kilograms of meth hidden in tea packages inside her storage compartment.

Phung told investigators she used to sell clothes and that she was married to Ochie. After giving birth to two children, they switched to trading drugs, assisted by various Nigerian compatriots.

Each week, Kiu received five to seven kilograms of meth, which she delivered to her partners. She earned VND70 million per kg, investigators said. Police are expanding their investigation.

According to top police officers, Ho Chi Minh City, also commonly referred to to as Saigon, has been a transit hub for drugs trafficked from the Golden Triangle. From there, the drugs are taken to Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, South Korea and even Europe, Australia and Latin America.

Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of possessing or smuggling more than 600 g of heroin or over 2.5 kg of methamphetamine face death.

Insecurity threatening the existence of Nigeria - Gbajabiamila

Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has expressed fear of increased insecurity witnessed across the country.

Gbajabiamila who stated that the existence of Nigeria is being threatened by insecurity while speaking at a two-day retreat in Abuja on Thursday September 24, added that citizens expect the government to fulfill its constitutional responsibility of protecting them.

He said;

Quote:“These internal security challenges threaten the very existence of the Nigerian state because they undermine public faith in the government’s ability to fulfil its fundamental obligation to protect the lives and property of citizens,” he said.

“Across the three arms of government, we have a shared responsibility to take all necessary actions to meet these challenges head-on. This is what the people who elected us rightly expect.

“National security is generally understood to be the preserve of the executive arm of government. As a result, the general public and even the political class often do not know what the legislative role in national security is or ought to be.

“This knowledge gap presents an ongoing limitation on the policy-making and oversight role of the legislature as it pertains specifically to the challenges we face in the security sector.

“Workshops such as the one we have gathered here for today are an essential tool in reversing this gap.”

On how the house of representatives has contributed to security in the country, Gbajabiamila said;

Quote:“Key followers of the house would notice that security has been a very important part of our work. It’s part of our legislative agenda. When I came in, I visited three key states affected by insecurity.

“I went to Katsina, Borno and Zamfara. We now have in our process the means of alternative funding for the security agencies. I think we should have the roles of each security agencies clearly defined.

“It’s important that we understand the separation. Anything else relies on security. That’s why when this government came in, security was one of the legs.”

An officer of the Department of State Services in Plateau State, Barrister Muktar Modibbo, has been killed in a shoot-out with arms smugglers.

It was gathered that Modibbo, who also worked with the legal department of the security outfit, died after armed gunmen in a gunrunning ring opened fire at him and other officers during an operation.

A top security source within the DSS, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, told SaharaReporters that the incident occurred during a raid on the criminals' hideout in Shendam Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the gunrunners, who supply illicit weapons to criminals were initially traced to Qu’anpan Local Government Area by the secret police but the operation was aborted after it was discovered that intel had leaked to the gunrunners, who then swiftly changed location.

The security source said after receiving new intelligence that the arms smugglers were in Shendam, a team was constituted to burst their operation.

The operation was, however, met with heavy shooting from the criminals, who were well equipped with sophisticated firearms and seemed to have had prior intel about the raid. The resulting gunfire led to the death of Modibbo,

“They (gunrunners) also took his weapon, a Galil Automatic Rifle, and a few other things,” the source added.

Dog mauled newborn baby to death 'while mum was in the toilet and dad was in garden'

A family's pet dog mauled a newborn baby to death while his mother was in the toilet and his father was in the garden with another child, a coroner heard.

Elon Jase Ellis-Joynes was 12 days old when his family's Chow Chow-cross is believed to have bitten him on September 13, 2020.

The child, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, was still alive when mum Abigail Ellis frantically called for an ambulance, but died at the hospital.

Doncaster Coroner's Court heard Elon was "bleeding from his leg or his stomach".

Police are currently investigating his death and senior coroner Nicola Mundy adjourned the inquest until a later date.

Coroner's officer David Copley said: "At 3.04pm on Sunday, September 13, a call was made to South Yorkshire Ambulance by Abigail Ellis.

"She stated that her son, Elon, was breathing, but was really poorly.

"He was bleeding from his leg or his tummy, she thought that one of the dogs had bitten Elon.

"She had been on the toilet and her partner Stephen was outside with another child and came running in.

"Officers attended and Stephen Joynes identified Elon to police officers."

A police spokesperson said the baby had suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a dog.

They said the pet, called Teddy, was removed from the address and will remain in secure kennels until the force's inquiries have been completed.

We decide who visits the UK – British govt fires back at FG over visa ban

[Image: British-High-Commissioner-to-Nigeria-Cat...x720-1.jpg]

The UK Government has said it is surprised by the federal government’s stance, that it would consider disrespectful to Nigeria’s sovereignty, for any outside authority to sit in judgment over the conduct of its citizens and apply punitive measures such as visa restriction, unilaterally.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, stated this while speaking at an orientation programme for people with disability seeking Chevening scholarship opportunities in the United Kingdom.

Laing made it clear the issue of visa restriction on perpetrators of electoral violence was the UK’s visa policy and they determine who travels to the country.
“It is our visa policy, the UK, and we can determine who comes to the UK. So, that is a non-sovereign right.
“And all we are saying is that in line with Nigerian policy, that those who commit violence or who incite violence, there may be an implication for that person when they apply for a visa in the UK.

“So, I think it is actually completely consistent with the Nigerian policy. This is our visa policy, but obviously, it is for Nigeria to determine how they deal with these perpetrators in Nigeria,” Laing said.
The United Kingdom has threatened to ban politicians who resort to electoral violence, ahead of the Ondo and Edo governorship elections.

Quote:We've Not Been Allowed To Leave For Six Months, Workers At Indomie Cry Out For Help

Workers at De United Foods Industries Limited, makers of Indomie noodles, have cried out for help over what they described as modern-day slavery and unfair labour practices meted out on them since March.

The workers said cooks, drivers, nannies, stewards and other groups working for the largely Asian staff of the company, had not been allowed to return home to see their families by the management of the company under the guise of preventing the spread of COVID-19.

The workers in a statement on Thursday said, “Ironically these bosses go out everyday including attending social functions while a few of them have even contracted the COVID-19 and infected the helpless domestic workers. The affected domestic workers are largely drawn from those living with their bosses around Ikoyi and Victoria Island parts of Lagos.

“The Federation of Informal Workers Organisations of Nigeria, a network of working people under informal employment in Nigeria, was alerted about this development almost two months ago during which time efforts were made to reach out to the management of DUFIL to review its inhuman policy without any response or acknowledgement of the effort.”

They called on the Nigerian Government, investors and the international community to intervene in ensuring that they were released to leave the confines of their bosses homes where they had been denied access to public holidays, weekends.

A man who allegedly beat his stepson to death with a stick could be jailed for life, along with the boy’s mother, who is accused of not intervening.

Tony Essobti Badre, 25, is accused of beating his partner’s son, Giuseppe D. to death with a stick on January 27th, 2019, in Italy.

He is also accused of badly beating the boy’s three-year-old sister, Noemi, leaving her with a bloodied face.

The victim’s mother, Valentina Casa, could also face a life sentence for failing to intervene in the attack on her son.

Casa stands accused of leaving her dying son unattended for a long period of time, before calling the emergency services. Casa also allegedly defended her partner and attempted to cover up for him after the incident.

Her partner, Badre, has been charged with voluntary murder, attempted murder of the victim’s younger sister, and mistreatment of the family aggravated by cruelty.

Requests from prosecutors Paola Izzo and Paolo Sozio to see both defendants imprisoned for life were presented at the Court Of Naples.

The defendants attended the hearing through videoconference calls from prison, according to La Republicca.

During the hearing, the defendants were shown intercepted recordings of Tony Badre speaking of the incident.

He said: “I don’t know what got into me that day, but I punched him so many times, then took a bat.
“I didn’t understand anything anymore."

The case continues.

Quote:By Ogochukwu Isioma, Umuahia

Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, on Thursday, empowered members of his Abia North Constituency of Abia State with motorcycles and sewing machines.

Igbere TV reports that the distribution exercise, which is second phase of the OUK’s empowerment scheme, kicked off at Isukwuato Local Government Area of the State.

Our correspondent, covering the ceremony, witnessed Senator Orji Kalu, a former Governor of Abia, hand over several empowerment kits to his constituents.

As at the time of filing this report, the OUK empowerment programme was still on, with a live broadcast on the Senator's Facebook page, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Senator Orji Kalu had in August distributed over 400 motorcycles, 150 generators and several sewing machines to his constituents, in the first phase of the empowerment exercise.

The former governor told Igbere TV that the gesture was part of efforts to fulfill his campaign promises of providing an improved living standard to the people.

He had pledged to distribute more additional items to other constituents that didn’t benefit, saying he has concluded plans to also rebuild Aro-Ikpa road in the next few months.

According to Kalu, the idea behind the empowerment was to support the mobility of the youths and give them motivations in their farming activities.

The senator said such motivations will reduce the rate of unemployment and over-dependence among youths, hoping that such motivations will encourage productivity.

A body modification fan who wants to look like a “sinister” creature has unveiled his latest transformation.

Michel Faro do Prado, 44, a tattoo artist from Brazil has been undergoing a series of procedures to achieve his "sinister creature" look. He has now taken his transformation to another level by shaping his teeth into arches, removing his nose, and implanting two horns onto his head.

Michel's wife, who specialises in body modifications reportedly helped him to achieve his new look.
She claims he's "only the third person in the world" to have completely removed their nose.

He previously said: "I have been a tattoo artist for 25 years, most of my tattoos I get from artists and professionals who I have paid.

"I focus on blackwork and brutal tattoos, which are types of tattoos where you ink a large part of your body.
"But my wife specialises in the area of modifications and the idea is for me to become her masterpiece when it comes to tattooing."

According to Michel, he has a high pain tolerance and will keep enduring more discomfort to achieve his desired look.

He added: "Actually I have a good resistance to pain, I don't think anything is so painful.

"I suffer a lot more in the post-procedures than at the time. The truth is there are changes that without anaesthesia would be almost impossible to be done, I would love not to feel any pain.

"But if I have to feel pain, to achieve what I want, for sure I will face it."[Image: 5f6cd869eeda2.jpg]

25 killed, 3,500 houses destroyed in Bauchi flood

About 25 people have been killed in the flooding incidents across Bauchi state in 2020.

Deputy Governor Baba Tela revealed this while receiving officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the government house on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed.

He said;

Quote:“Areas that have not seen water or flood for the last five years or so are now impassable with a lot of water there.
“We have over 3,500 houses and over 2,200 farmlands destroyed. And you know in this part of the country, we depend on farming. So when you have over 2,000 farms destroyed, that will give you an indication of what is to come – lack of food as time goes on.

“The issue of flooding has been a reoccurring decimal not only in the state but across the country. In Bauchi State, about 15 local government areas have been affected by flooding, which is because of the unusual rainfall earlier predicted by NEMA.

“We have also lost about 25 lives and that is quite substantial; it is okay to lose something you can replace, but you can’t replace lives. We also have those who were injured, about 20 people.

“On the money lost as well as the farmlands and houses that have been destroyed this year, it’s almost N950 million, which does not include the infrastructure that the government has to replace as some roads have been washed away.”

Tela who thanked NEMA for providing relief materials for the state, also asked for federal government's intervention.

He added;

Quote:“I will like to mention that through NEMA, we have received various types of food items, totalling 220 trailers as relief materials."

CHRIST EMBASSY TO BUILD WORLD CLASS MEGA HOSPITAL

Ground Breaking Ceremony Kicks off Construction of LoveWorld Medical Center by Trauma Care International Foundation

Multi-specialty hospital to provide quality community healthcare, catering to trauma and emergency victims.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, the Trauma Care International Foundation (TCIF) kicked off the construction of a world class multi-specialty hospital; the LoveWorld Medical Center. The special ground breaking ceremony which took place at the LoveWorld Crusade Grounds, Aseese, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Southwest, Nigeria, was well attended. The foundation embarked on this project in recognition of the need for adequate in-facility care for trauma and emergency victims, strategically siting the hospital along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway — the busiest interstate route in Nigeria — which is used by over 250,000 passenger car units on a daily basis.

Trauma injuries are among the top 10 leading causes of death globally, and they are usually associated with significant morbidities and subsequent disabilities in many of those affected. The Trauma Care International Foundation (TCIF); a member agency of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International has through the years focused on improving trauma management and emergency response services in Nigeria. TCIF has achieved this through its numerous initiatives which promote enhanced pre-hospital care and first responder education, its voluntary blood donation programs and community based health projects.

Dignitaries led by the Chairman of the occasion, the highly esteemed Rev. Tom Amenkhienan, officially flag off the construction of the medical center.

Studies have shown that on the average, 12 people die every day from traumatic accidents in Lagos State. This explains the need for such a facility which will cater to the health needs of those in surrounding communities while providing a point of care to victims of trauma and emergencies along the expressway and across Lagos and Ogun States.

While delivering his speech, the Chairman of the auspicious event, the highly esteemed Rev. Tom Amenkhienan, (Member of the CEC), expressed profound gratitude to the man of God, Reverend (Dr.) Chris Oyakhilome for the vision of the multi-specialty hospital. He said it is a laudable gesture as it will contribute significantly to the care of critically ill patients, and mark a new beginning in trauma and emergency care in Nigeria.

In her address at the special ceremony, the Chairman of the Trauma Care International Foundation, Dr. Deola Phillips, heralded the hospital as the LoveWorld Nation and the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International's significant contribution to nation building, and as part of a strategic plan to ensure definite improvements in the state of trauma care and emergency response in Nigeria.

Eminent dignitaries that graced this occasion
were some members of the Central Executive Council of the Loveworld Nation, members of the TCIF Board, the representative of the Ogun State
Commissioner for Health, Dr Kudus, Dr Adelakun,
Director Ogun State Ambulance and

We will drag Buhari to court over railways to Niger Republic – Rights group

on
 September 24, 2020
[Image: Muhammadu-Buhari.jpg]

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has described the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari government to build railways from Kano to Niger Republic with borrowed Chinese money as fraudulent and against Nigeria’s security interests.
HURIWA also threatened to sue President Muhammadu Buhari in order to stop the multibillion Naira project.

A Statement by HURIWA, signed by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko and made available to DAILY POST on Thursday strongly condemned the approval of about $1.96 billion contract of the proposed project.

The human rights group described the planned project as a misplaced priority and a grave threat to national security, insisting that it is fraudulent to borrow from China and build for Niger Republic and then tax Nigerians to pay back.

The Federal Government had yesterday approved a $1,959,744,723.71 contract for a rail line that would link Nigeria to Niger Republic.

The railways will connect at least seven cities in Nigeria and one city in Niger Republic and is expected to start from Kano and pass through Dambatta, Kazaure, Daura, Mashi, Katsina, Jibia and terminate in Maradi, Niger Republic.

HURIWA said that the project is another proof of misplacement of priority by the Buhari regime.
However, the rights group described the project as a ticking time bomb and a grave threat to National security, adding that when completed, it will ease the influx of illegal aliens into Nigeria.

“We are worried that this project when completed will be express entry for killer herdsmen and terrorists from Niger. We see it also as a plot to flood Nigeria with illegal aliens for purposes of undermining the 2023 polls,” the group said.

“Therefore, we condemn this venture as wasteful because of the danger of being used to import weapons that will set Nigeria ablaze. Whereas there are no such rail lines linking Lagos to Enugu and Port Harcourt or Maiduguri to Enugu, President Buhari is investing almost $2bn to build railways for terrorists and bandits to flood into Nigeria and destabilize the country. Is this government just for the North?

“In any event, the bottom line is that security everywhere in Nigeria, particularly across the north, appears to be rapidly deteriorating, resulting to popular discontent. Hence, this rail project is ill-timed and a wasteful effort.

“Beyond the security aspect, Let us even look at it from the point of view of the economy. What is the economic benefit of this project to Nigeria? The Nigerian economy, as it is today, is not in a state to contain this kind of wasteful spending.

“Generally, illegal immigration in Nigeria is a serious problem and the border has become quite porous. According to authorities, people from Niger are the biggest group of illegal immigrants, and the problems with illegal influx migrants are seen in the dangers faced by the host or receiving country, which are social, economic, political and security.

“A rapid influx of illegal immigrants has led to crisis of identification and an increase in the crime rates in Nigeria. It is alleged that among the illegal migrants, there are militants, who enter the nation to carry out terrorist activities.

“Terrorism has become a global trend, and it is thought that the current government of Muhammadu Buhari would seek out practical ways to strengthen our porous borders, instead, it is creating easy and accessible means of illegal arms trafficking and immigrants.”

Gov Abiodun’s whereabouts raises concern in Ogun as PDP demands explanation

on
 September 24, 2020
[Image: Ogun.jpg]

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Governor Dapo Abiodun to explain where he is and what he is doing there, DAILY POST reports.

The PDP said it condemned in strong terms, “his absence from duty.”

In the past few days, Ogun indigenes have been asking to know the whereabouts of Gov Abiodun across different social media platforms.

The concerns about Abiodun’s whereabouts became more pronounced during the recent workers’ strike, when the Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Bankole, described him as an ‘absentee governor’.

Bankole said, “We cannot afford to have an absentee governor. Ogun State is too civilized to have an absentee governor. Governance is a serious business. If our governor is not ready, let him pack his bags and go.”

Ogun PDP said it observed that the last time Gov Abiodun was sighted in public was on Saturday, September 5, 2020, when he joined other governors and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State to campaign for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s reelection.

Before then, he was in Abeokuta on September 2 to inspect the ongoing Panseke-Adigbe road construction.

On September 3, Abiodun was at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja to meet President Muhammadu Buhari, where he said he presented to President Buhari, “a photo documentary detailing the achievements of our Administration in 52 weeks in Ogun State.”

It was observed that the Deputy Governor, Mrs Naimot Salako-Oyedele, and other top government functionaries have been standing in for Gov Abiodun for the past three weeks or thereabouts.

Our correspondent reports that when the projects and contracts review committee submitted its report on September 8, Abiodun was not physically present at the occasion. He joined the event virtually through zoom.

The Deputy Governor received the report on his behalf.
Same day, Abiodun, on his Facebook page said, “my Deputy, Her Excellency, @noimot.oyedele received a team from the Federal Government/IFAD-Assisted Value Chain Development Programme on my behalf.”

On September 11, the Ogun State Task Force on Human Trafficking was inaugurated. Representatives of NAPTIP were in the Governor’s office. Gov Abiodun said he was represented by his Deputy.

Reacting, in an interview with DAILY POST, the Ogun PDP Publicity Secretary, Akinloye Bankole, said the party is “very worried at the levity with which the Governor is handling the issues of productive governance for the people.”

According to him, “it is very sad that Gov Abiodun has shamefully added the audacity of ‘absenteeism’ to his horrible status of executive insensitivity.”

“In clear terms, PDP rejects and condemns in strong terms, his absence from duty,” Bankole said.

“We, therefore, demand detailed explanation of his whereabouts. The Governor has a responsibility to the people. So, he should tell us where he is and exactly what he’s doing there,” the PDP sought to know.
DAILY POST contacted two spokespersons of the Governor for clarifications on his whereabouts.

The Special Adviser on Public Communications, Remmy Hazzan and the Chief Press Secretary to Abiodun, Kunle Somorin, did not answer phone calls made to them.

However, Kunle Somorin, replying to a text, said the Governor is in Abeokuta.

He was asked, “Sir, Ogun indigenes and the PDP said they’re worried about the whereabouts of Gov Abiodun since Sept 5. They seek to know, where is the Governor?”

Replying, Somorin tersely said, “Abeokuta, sir.”
He confirmed that the Governor was in Ondo on September 5; saying, however, that it was not true that Gov. Abiodun has not been in his office since then.

Also, Remmy Hazzan replied to the text, saying, “5th of September? He still hosted UNILEVER on Monday 21st September, 2020, and presided over the state weekly EXCO meeting this week, Tuesday, 22nd September, 2020. Your 5th September timeline seemingly smacks mischief.”

Reports have it that the Tuesday weekly State Executive Council meeting was held virtually through an online platform.

Zamfara killings: Arewa groups petition President Buhari

The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, has called on President Muhammad Buhari to take proactive action over the blood letting in Zamfara and other parts of the North.

The Coalition of Northern Groups, through its spokesman, Suleiman Abdul-Azeez, while presenting the petition to the Speaker, Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Magarya, expressed dismay at the ugly security scenario in the State despite the several measures being taken by the government.

The groups noted that the situation in Zamfara was becoming worse due to the activities of some selfish and heartless individuals whom they described as the enemies of the people.

The groups called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that all those figured to be supporting or collaborating with bandits in Zamfara State are arrested and prosecuted no matter how big or influential, stressing that they are the greatest threat to peace and tranquility in the country.

The CNG spokesperson noted that the disturbing reports of bandits and internal collaborators is creating a fearful society, noting that there is the need by relevant authorities to take drastic measures to nib it in the bud.

The groups explained, “We are here to condemn what happened in the State recently when some politicians attacked the State’s police command to rescue some of their members arrested by the police. We condemn their action and want appropriate lawful action taken.”

The Coalition said that Zamfara State has for long faced problems with armed groups stealing cattle, kidnapping for ransom and attacking communities.
More recently, the groups noted that there has been a growth in informal mining activity in the mineral-rich region that has attracted people from outside the State, thereby, further fuelling instability in the State.

Responding, the Speaker, Zamfara State House of Assembly, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya, reiterated the commitments to promote security in the State.

He said that the State government is aware that despite the peace achieved, some elements are trying to disabuse the efforts of government towards ensuring peace.

Edo election: I’ve realized my mistakes, please return to APC – Ize-Iyamu begs Obaseki

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the last governorship election, in Edo State, has appealed to the winner of the election, Governor Godwin Obaseki to return to the APC.

Ize-Iyamu said this in a television broadcast on Wednesday night.

“We are going to talk to everybody. We are going to bring everybody back. I want to salute my brother, the governor. I would like to appeal to him to return to the party. In every family, we have a disagreement,” he said.

The APC candidate said he does not want the governor, whom he described as his senior brother, to make the same mistake he, (Ize-Iyamu) made.

“I made that mistake before and I have come to realise that it was a grievous error and I will not want him as a senior brother to make the same mistake.

“I will like to appeal to him to set aside his anger and come back. In APC, he is recognised as a leader and it would be difficult for him to be recognised as a leader in the new party he is going to.

“Certainly, we are ready to work with him and all well-meaning Edo people. We believe it is time to bring peace back to Edo State,” he added.

Obaseki defeated Ize-Iyamu in the Saturday governorship election, according to the result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The Governor dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, after he was disqualified from contesting the primaries over alleged certificate issues.

He decamped to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where he was received and given the ticket to run in the governorship election.

Ize-Iyamu was the standard bearer of the APC and was backed by the former National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole

We want our own country – Yoruba leader, Akintoye tells Buhari

 September 24, 2020

The leader of Yoruba ethnic group, Professor Banji Akintoye has said that Yoruba ethnic group is in dire need of its own country out of the present Nigeria.
Akintoye said that over 55 million people of Yoruba extraction, will get their freedom without breaking the law of the country or shedding blood.

The renowned historian made these declarations during the celebration of Kiriji war held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Wednesday.

DAILY POST gathered that Kiriji war happened in Yoruba land many decades ago.

Present at the celebration included Otun Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun who represented the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Otunba Deji Osibogun, Wale Alabi, Comrade Olu Omotosho, Opeoluwa Elisha Ademoyegun and Iyanda Wasiu.

Akintoye while insisting that nothing would stop the liberation of Yoruba from its enemies, awakened the youths, who he said, were very important in the fight for struggle.

He said, “We have been saying we will have a Yoruba nation of our own. Yoruba World Congress is committed to helping Yoruba nation to secure its position in the comity of nations.

“They do say I don’t compromise. It is not every time. But once we say, we will take a common stance, I don’t know how to betray. We will get Yoruba nation free without violence, we will not break the laws of Nigeria. If there is anyone who wants to be violent, we will tell them, no.

“If you are violent and there are dead bodies on the streets, you are circumventing our purpose. We are telling the world that we want our own country. We have the rights to demand for our rights. When we launched Amotekun, was there any arrest, violence? If you want to stage a rally, do so. It’s your rights but no violence.

“I have passion for the youths. If you don’t have people who can take after you, no matter the amount of wealth you have it’s nothing. These youths are important. We elders can only guide and lead you. We can write letters but it is you who will do it. It must succeed. Anybody saying contrary, I’m not part of that idea.

“In the past of 30 and 40 years ago, the youths have not been the same again. I graduated from the University College Ibadan in the morning and by evening my wife and I were employed. I can’t do the things I’m doing now if I don’t have the youths around me.

“We are hurting our future in a very vicious way. Yoruba are 55 million, 74 percent are 40 years and. Step forward and. They have the authority of the land to say you can’t do it. Go back home. No violence. Go to market places, mechanic workshop, farmers on their way to the farms. If you can do this, getting our resolve done will not be difficult.”

“We don’t force our will on people. Explain to those organizations who don’t understand what you want. Yoruba will not suffer. We are the most populous in Africa. We want to take our own country and begin to build it. Nothing more,” he concluded.

In his own contribution, the leader of Movement for Oduduwa Republic, Architect Akin George explained how they had mobilised other people in Yorubaland.
“We went to Okemesi where the Kiriji war started. We saw the king. From there, we went to Imesi Ile and Igbajo. At Igbajo, we noticed disunity between Imesi Ile and Oke Imesi, between Igbajo and Ibadan people there.

“We reconciled them. We can’t fight the enemies if home front is divided. We may have misunderstanding but should not lead to quarrel,” he revealed.

Prophetess Juliet Masakanire who is said to be the founder of Pray Deliverance and Testimony Ministries International, was also accused of bribing the congregant with US$16 and making several EcoCash transactions to buy her silence.

The alleged sexual molestation victim alleged that the Prophetess sucked her breasts while putting her fingers in her private part on three different occasions. She also revealed that they stayed together and shared the same bed.

The victim said;

Quote:“She used to give me money every time she abused me. She gave me US$10, US$6, R50 and transferred varying amounts to my account via EcoCash. She said I should do what she wanted if I entertained any thoughts of getting married."

Jilted taxi driver commits suicide after killing girlfriend who dumped him

An investigation into the death of a 45-year-old taxi driver identified as Emmanuel Kwakye and his alleged girlfriend Georgina Lamisi Awuni Sayel has been initiated by the police in Cape Coast.

Kwakye’s lifeless body was found hanging on a tree at Bronyibima M.A. Basic school on Tuesday, September 22, while Sayel was also found dead in his room, a development that fueled suspicion of him committing suicide after killing his girlfriend of three years who ended their relationship.

The bodies were discovered after Kwakye's friend filed a missing person complaint with the University of Cape Coast's police station, Ghana.

It was gathered that a deep stab wound was found on Lamisi's left rib with her bra and dress stained with blood. Further checks in the room revealed a kitchen knife with a bloodstain on it.

Insiders alleged that Kwakye and Lamisi dated for three years and he allegedly sponsored her tertiary education at the Ola College of Education in Cape Coast. Upon completing her tertiary education, Lamisi ended their relationship and left Kwakye heartbroken.

It is speculated that the jilted man killed his girlfriend out of vengeance as all effort to get her back was futile. Their bodies have been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Mortuary.

A man is fortunate to be alive though badly injured after his pregnant wife jumped into water to rescue him when a shark attacked him in Florida.

Andrew Eddy, 30, was snorkeling on a private boat at Sombrero Key Light, Florida, on Sunday, September 20, when he was bitten on the shoulder by a shark “almost immediately” upon entering the water, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Eddy, who lives in Atlanta, was taken from the water to Sombrero Beach around 10:30 a.m., and airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, the sheriff’s office’s statement said.

His injuries were described as "severe" though his condition has not been released.

Female workers allegedly stripped naked on ex-minister, Kenneth Gbagi’s order, demand N1bn as compensation

The four former staff of Signatious Hotel in Warri, Delta State, who were allegedly stripped naked naked on the order of the owner of the hotel who is a former Minister of State for Education, Kenneth Gbagi, have written a letter to him demanding N1bn compensation and a public apology from him.

In a letter drafted by their counsel, Kunle Edun and dated September 23, the four employees namely Mr Victor Ephraim, Gloria Oguzie, Mrs. Precious Achibong, Roselyn Okiemute Diaghwarhe, said they were stripped naked on the orders of the ex-minister because of the tips a guest who lodged at the hotel for four days gave to them on his departure on August 20, 2020.

The letter is titled, ‘Trial by ordeal, torture, stripping naked and bestial conduct of Signatious Hotel and yourself in an organised show of shame and animalism: Notice of intention to seek full legal redress’. It reads in part

Quote:“That after the guest’s stay, he gave our clients the sum of N105, 000 as tips for the good time that he had at the hotel.
This again, is not unusual in the hospitality business. That the hotel did not lose any money neither was any alleged to have been stolen.

You told our clients menacingly that they are not entitled to tips, as all tips belong to you. As a matter of fact, you categorically stated that they were not supposed to have monies in their accounts as long as they were working for you.”

According to the letter, the ex-Minister on September 17, forcefully took the victims, one of whom was a married woman to the hotel warehouse in the presence and assistance of the armed mobile policemen and at gunpoint ordered them “to pull off their clothes”.

Quote:''The threatening presence of the armed policemen who willingly did your bidding, you directed your son of 15 years old (a minor) Master Egba Gbagi, to film and take photos of our clients’ nakedness” and then “summoned the other staff of the hotel to see the nakedness of our clients”the letter read

The ex-minister has now been given five days to among others, pay the former employees N1bn as compensation and tender an unreserved apology to them.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER

YOUR MOMENT TO SHINE

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid (Matthew 5:14).

This present world is a world in spiritual darkness. It was the same in the days of Jesus. Recall at His arrest, He said, “…this is your moment, the time when the power of darkness reigns” (Luke 22:53 NLT).

After Jesus ascended to heaven, the world remained in darkness. But you’re the solution to that darkness. We read in our opening verse that you’re the light of the world. You have to shine ever more brightly in these last days, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Our world isn’t for the devil; it’s for the Lord. He put us here to run this world with His light and righteousness from the realm of the Spirit. As you walk in faith, putting the Word to work and insisting on your divine rights and heritage in Christ, you’re making your light shine.

It doesn’t matter the darkness in the world—the sickness, disease, poverty and insecurity ravaging this world—you’ve been empowered to rule and reign in Christ, through the Word. Others would see you and understand who a true Christian is; they’d see the glory and excellence of Christ in you.
Isaiah 60:1-2 says, “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.” This is your moment to shine as the light in a dark world by walking in righteousness, prosperity, health, soundness of mind and body as guaranteed in the Word of God.

PRAYER

I’m the light of the world, a city set on a hill to bring illumination to my world. The glory and righteousness of Christ are manifested in and through me; I walk in prosperity and blessings, soundness of mind and body, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#TALKINGSESSION 24TH SEPTEMBER.

KINDLY SAY THIS WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the life of splendour, grace, prosperity, and greatness You’ve brought me into.

I am established in Your righteousness, planted in the house of the Lord; therefore, I flourish like the palm tree, with grace and glory! I bring forth fruit in season, and out of season, because I am like a tree planted by the waters, ever in blossom.

I walk day after day by the light of God’s Word. I am not moved by the natural circumstances that exist in the world. God’s Word is the light by which I operate in my job, finances, family and everything that concerns me.

I am aware of God’s bountiful provisions for me, and I am enjoying them, because I see by the greater light of His Word.

I am excelling and making progress on every side, and my faith is prevailing over circumstances,as I walk in the fullness of Your blessings.

I am an offspring of the Word; a joint heir with Christ, therefore, the lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, for I have a goodly heritage.

I am conscious of my glorious heritage in Christ, and through meditation on the Word, and fellowship with the Spirit, I get to know more and enjoy my inheritance in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

God bless you

Quote:A former National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has finally broken silence following his party's defeat at the September 19 Edo Governorship election.

Igbere TV had reported how the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu lost to incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the keenly contested election.

Oshiomhole, a former Governor of Edo State, had thrown his weight behind Ize-Iyamu, a former Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Edo State Government, in the guber polls.

On Wednesday, Oshiomhole, while at the gym at his private residence, in Benin City, said he did not break down as being alleged in some quarters, following the loss suffered by his party.

While thanking the good people of Edo State for their support towards his party, the APC former national chairman said, "in life you win some, and lose some ... but life goes on".

He said no matter the outcome of any election, the people must have faith in the country, and strengthen her democracy, adding that he has no plans of leaving Nigeria as he has only the Nigerian passport.

Sadiya Farouq Marries Sadique Abubakar In Private Ceremony - Sahara Reporters
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 09-23-2020, 10:16 PM - No Replies

Quote:About one year after grabbing the headlines for being President Muhammadu Buhari’s potential bride, Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has tied the nuptial knots with Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, in a secret ceremony in Abuja.

The extremely private event, which took place last Friday, was the culmination of a love affair between the two public figures that dates back to more than a year ago, it was confirmed.

However, in an attempt to get at the First Lady, members of the cabal around Buhari approached her parents in a bid to have her marry the President.

But with that episode now firmly behind them, Farouq and Abubakar proceeded to cement their relationship last Friday in the private ceremony.

The minister, who clocks 46 on November 5, has never been married and has no children.

The Chief of Air Staff, who is from Bauchi State, on the other hand, has 10 children from two wives – one of whom he has since divorced.

The two have kept their marriage a secret just the same way their relationship escaped public radar.

Farouq was appointed minister by President Buhari in 2019 while Abubakar, who is among service chiefs Nigerians have asked the Commander-In-Chief to fire for their poor tackling of insecurity in the country, has been in office since July 2015.

SaharaReporters reliably gathered that the marriage was delayed till last Friday after the controversy that followed the rumoured affair between Farouq and Buhari in October 2019 where it was alleged that the President was set to take her for a wife.

Sadique Abubakar and Sadiya Farouq
The news set the entire media space on fire, leaving many disappointed at the end when the purported wedding never became a reality.

Perhaps to fully banish the ghost of that rumour and keep it several radius away from her husband, it was reliably gathered that Farouq and Abubakar’s wedding was facilitated by the First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, apparently in a self-saving move.

Although, it was rumoured that she dated and was planning to marry Buhari last year, Farouq, who had been around the President since she was a teenager, has never dated the retired military general.

FG, Labour To Meet On Thursday Over Electricity, Fuel Hike
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:The Federal Government will on Thursday meet again with the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress on the threat by the organised labour to proceed on an indefinite strike and protest over the hike in electricity tariffs and fuel pump price.

The FG is expected to unfold its palliative plans during the parley which would hold at the Banquet hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Charles Akpan, disclosed the meeting date in an email on Wednesday.

It read, “The Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige will be hosting a meeting with the Organised Labour. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2020, and the venue is the Banquet hall, Presidential Villa, by 3pm.”

The FG and the unions had met penultimate Tuesday but the dialogue ended in a deadlock following the failure of the government to reverse the price increase or offer palliatives to cushion the effects on the workers.

The NLC and TUC subsequently declared strike and protest scheduled to commence from Tuesday.

Both unions said they would collaborate to execute the industrial action for maximum effect.

Rising from a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, the National Executive Council of the NLC comprising the chairpersons of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory endorsed the decision earlier taken by the Central Working Committee of the Congress on the strike last Wednesday.

The CWC had handed down a two-week ultimatum to the FG to reverse the price hike or face industrial action.

The TUC had also mobilized its affiliate members to participate in the proposed civil disobedience.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday told the international community that Nigeria was still battling Boko Haram and bandits.

Buhari’s message was contained in his pre-recorded address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

He urged countries to take a strong action against illicit flow of small arms and light weapons.

“Nigeria remains deeply concerned over the illicit trade, transfer, and circulation of small arms and light weapons, particularly on the continent of Africa. In Nigeria, we are still facing violent extremism from the insurgency of Boko Haram and bandits,” he said.

He noted that Nigeria counts on cooperation with neighbours and UN counter-terrorism bodies to overcome terrorists in the Lake Chad Basin and the wider Sahel Region.

The President said his administration will sustain the rehabilitation, reconstruction and resettlement of victims of terrorism and insurgency in the North-East.
On COVID-19, the Nigerian leader added his voice to supply of safe and effective coronavirus vaccines for all.

Toothbrush Removed From Indian Man Stomach After He Swallowed It While Brushing

Quote:A bloodied toothbrush had to be removed from a man’s stomach after he swallowed it while cleaning the back of his throat.

Doctors removed the 19cm-long brush within 24 hours, fearing that leaving it any longer could have been fatal. The patient, 39, whose name has been withheld, was brushing his teeth on September 15 when it slipped.

He rushed to a nearby health clinic, which quickly referred him to a hospital more than 100km away.

An X-ray and further tests couldn’t locate the brush in the man’s throat – leading doctors to conclude it was in his stomach. A minor operation was performed a short time later and the brush was removed.

The man remained in hospital while he recovered and was discharged a few days later. Dr Bomni Tayeng, a senior surgeon at Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pradesh, India, said:

‘The patient was taken to a private hospital in Pasighat – from there he was referred to our hospital. ‘The ENT surgeon of our hospital investigated the patient and planned to conduct an esophagoscopy, while I checked the patient at around 6pm.

‘The esophagoscopy procedure was conducted on September 16 morning, but the toothbrush couldn’t be found in the oesophagus – the muscular tube connecting the pharynx (throat) with the stomach. ‘This meant that the toothbrush had entered into the stomach.’

Dr Tayeng added that the patient was not feeling any pain after ingesting the toothbrush and was experiencing only minor discomfort in his upper abdomen.

He said: ‘As the toothbrush couldn’t be detected in the x-ray, I then decided to conduct an exploratory laparotomy process under general anaesthesia in the same sitting.

‘The brush could be easily felt in the stomach and was removed through a small incision in the stomach. This procedure took only about 30 minutes.

‘The very next day he started taking oral fluids, and had an uneventful recovery. He was discharged on September 21.’

Regina, who is a Ghanaian, said she got married to Fani-Kayode based on Ghanaian customs in 1997 and they subsequently tied the knot at the Apapa Registry in Lagos in 2002

She said, “We have a beautiful daughter called Oluwaremilekun and both she and I are very proud of him. He has been a wonderful father and caring husband and he has never subjected me to any form of domestic abuse or treated me badly.

“Reports in the media that we are divorced are fake and suggestions that I was treated in a bad way by him or subjected to any form of abuse at any time in the 23 years that we have been married are malicious and false.”

When asked if she was aware of Fani-Kayode’s relationship with Precious that produced four sons, she responded in the affirmative, adding that she approved of it.

Regina stated that she had relocated to Ghana and that a monogamous relationship would have been difficult for her husband hence she gave him her blessing to take another wife

She, however, said her husband did not commit bigamy as he did not marry Precious legally but traditionally.

Precious, who is a beauty queen, recently separated from Fani-Kayode amid rumours of domestic violence.

However, neither Precious nor Fani-Kayode has agreed to speak to the media on the matter.

India and China agree to stop sending troops to disputed Himalayan border

China and India have agreed to stop sending military troops to their disputed border in the Himalayas, following an escalation in tensions between the two nuclear powers.

Senior military commanders from India and China met on Monday to discuss stabilizing tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the demarcation line that separates the two military giants.

The Line of Actual Control, which marks the de facto border and passes through the lake, was established in the wake of the 1962 Sino-Indian war.  India and China do not agree on its precise location and regularly accuse each other of overstepping it.

Tensions have been rising in the Himalayas since a bloody clash between Indian and Chinese troops in June and efforts to deescalate in the wake of the violence appeared to be faltering.

At least 20 Indian soldiers were killed in that incident.

In a joint statement, both countries greed to strengthen communication on the ground to avoid misunderstandings or action "that may complicate the situation."
They also agreed to not take any unilateral action that would change the situation on the ground, according to the statement.

Another round of high-level military meetings will be held "as soon as possible," the statement said.

After the military confrontation between both countries inm Jund, meetings were immediately set up between enjoys of both countries.

Then early this month,  New Delhi and Beijing accused each other of illegally crossing into their territories.

A week later, China and India accused each other's troops of firing warning shots across the Sino-Indian border, Both sides blamed the other for violating bilateral agreements and taking "provocative" actions.

This is the first time in more than four decades that India and China have confronted each other. In 1996, the two countries signed an agreement which states that neither side shall open fire within 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) from the LAC to "prevent dangerous military activities."

Independence Day: IPOB orders sit-at-home on October 1

on
 September 23, 2020
[Image: biafra_ipob.jpg]

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday called on Nigerians from the Southeast to observe a sit-at-home on October 1, 2020.

IPOB said the sit-at-home order was aimed at expressing displeasure over the bad governance being experienced in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group called for total lockdown on October 1.

According to Powerful: “We, the global movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to announce to all Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom all over the world that Biafrans across the globe shall observe a sit-at-home in Biafraland and where permissible in the diaspora, join our Yoruba brethren agitating for Oduduwa Republic, in public protests to mark the October 1, 2020. We, therefore, enjoin all Biafrans and every conscious Nigerian, especially those ethnic nationalities reeling from the triple double blow of state sponsored terrorism, bad governance and economic annihilation, to boycott every government organised ceremony designed to eulogize the failure that Nigeria has become. This is the time to let the world know how disastrously intolerable human existence is in Nigeria today.

“If you want to see an end to terrorism and organised mediocrity, now is the time to register your anger by ensuring that you and your household sit at home on October 1, 2020. Do not risk the life and well-being of your children by allowing them to gather in groups in the open where terrorists may find it easier to blow them up or kidnap them. There is credible intelligence that terrorist groups are planning to slaughter our children should they venture out to celebrate or march on October 1st.

“This order is to highlight our position and resolve as Biafrans that we are no longer interested in propping up a crumbling terrorist state. The leadership of this great movement in conjunction with supporters of Biafra freedom across the globe have concluded every arrangement to let the whole world know and understand that we are no longer part of this shambolic monument to terrorism and failure.

As this long expired man made contraption marks her abused independence on October 1st this year, we IPOB will appropriately declare our intention towards the full and irreversible restoration of Biafra sovereignty and independence for all oppressed ethnic groups in Nigeria.

“Complete and total lockdown of Biafraland and other terror ravaged areas of the Middle Belt come 1st of October 2020 is sacrosanct, irreversible and non-negotiable! Wholesale slaughter of innocent Judeo-Christians and state sponsored ethnic cleansing cannot be going on in our land at the same time as fake jamborees are being organised by the same sponsors terror attacks,⁹ in order to deflect our attention away from the imminent danger we are all in.

“We, therefore, urge that all markets, schools and businesses in Biafraland and beyond be shut down as a mark of respect to all those who have died as a result of terrorism against innocent civilians especially Christians, ethnic cleansing in Southern Kaduna and elsewhere across the Middle Belt.

Everywhere in Biafraland must be under lock for Nigeria and the world to know that we are all united in our march toward total freedom. There should be no public events or ceremonies in Biafraland to avoid any needless loss of lives

NIDCOM denies reports claiming staff of the Nigerian embassy in Switzerland called the police on Nigerian citizens

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission. has denied claims made in a viral video that staff of the Nigerian Embassy in Switzerland called the police to arrest Nigerian citizens.

Recall that on Tuesday September 22, a video surfaced online in which a Nigerian man claimed the embassy staff sent in police officers to arrest them when they visited the embassy for some

documentation. Some of the Nigerians who were heard shouting on top of their voices, alleged that they had already made payments for their passports to be renewed but the embassy failed to fulfill the service they paid for.

Reacting to the video, the Head of Media at NIDCOM, Abdulrahman Balogun, denied claims.

In a statement released on Wednesday September 23, Balogun said the Nigerians came into the facility and when they started behaving unruly and ignoring the COVID-19 protocols of having only 10 persons in a room, the Embassy's protection unit were invited to restore order. He denied claims that police officers were invited to arrest the Nigerians

Read the statement below

Quote:VIDEO ON THE ALLEGED ARREST OF NIGERIANS AT THE EMBASSY IN SWITZERLAND- THE FACTS Abuja, Sept. 23, 2020:
In view of the above video it is imperative to state the facts.

In line with Covid-19 protocols, the Embassy in Bern. Switzerland is only allowed to attend to 10 applicants, however, the Mission made it possible to attend to a maximum of 20 daily, spacing out the appointments. But on this day, 64 Nigerians besieged the Nigerian mission in Bern. Only 10 of them were on scheduled appointment.

54 of them had no appointment for that day and had not made the mandatory online payment and majority of the applicants came from Italy and Spain .With no appointment with no online payment.

While the Nigerian Amb. Baba Madagu was addressing them, they barged in through the front door and overcrowded a hall that was meant to receive only 10 people at a time.

The mission did not call the Police as erroneously stated in the video but invited the Embassy Protection Unit to bring calm and decorum back to the hall.

The men of the Embassy protection unit addressed them and those on appointment as well as those who had made their online payments were attended to while others were advised to follow the due process, with an assurance that everyone will be attended to as long as the rules were followed.
We appeal to Nigerians abroad to be good ambassadors of Nigeria wherever they are and obey laws put in place.

The Nigerian mission in Bern is still attending to Nigerians who follow the process, pay online and book their appointments as stipulated.''
