Ondo INEC Fire Incident Is Plot To Rig, Say PDP, Jegede

Quote:The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State and its governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, have said that Thursday’s night fire incident at the Akure office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was a plot to rig the October 10 governorship election.

It said foul play could not be ruled out in the incident.

A press statement by state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kennedy Peretei, said the fire incident that burnt over 5000 card readers was disappointing.

Peretei cautioned that Ondo State people would not be taken for granted by the electoral body to resort to the use of manual device, as against the use of electronic card readers for the governorship polls.

According to the statement, “Indeed, we suspect collusion between some unscrupulous officials of the commission with some politicians to perfect the running plans to rig the October 10 governorship election.

“We do not want any politician, because of selfish political ambition, to take us back to the dark days of the 1983 political crisis that engulfed the old Ondo State.

“We are thus appealing to Eminent Nigerians, the civil rights community and other international bodies to wade in, and help prevent any move to subvert the will of the people in the coming Ondo governorship election.”

Jegede in a statement by the Director of Media of his campaign organization, Mr. Samuel Fasua, said his fate was now in the hands of God.

He urged INEC National Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, to order a thorough probe into the fire incident with a view to bringing perpetrators to book.

The PDP candidate called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to rise up to the test of integrity thrown up by the INEC fire incident and conduct sweeping investigations

According to the statement, “For a while now, our main rival in this race has been in the eye of the storm over accusation that it was using loan assistance decoy to collect the pin codes in the Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) of drivers, artisans and other professionals across the state.

“Telephone SMS was sent to them through the Ondo State Entrepreneurship Agency, that they should submit the code numbers on their PVCs latest September 2, 2020; that the state government wanted to grant them loans to boost their businesses.

“Here were loans that our people did not get for three and half years that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration has been in power; but now, the party is trying to use a loan offer as decoy to pervert the inalienable right of the people to elect the candidate of their choice.

“Now, shortly after the collection of innocent people’s PVCs through the backdoor, came the shocking news that the INEC office had been raised by fire and that over 5000 card readers had been burnt.

“We smell a rat in all of this, knowing that the next scene in what looks like a drama of the absurd may lead to steps that can tinker with the authentic INEC voters’ list, with yesterday’s fire incident as alibi.”

Spokesman for the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Alex Kalejaiye, said the party was taken aback over the INEC fire incident.

Kalejaiye in a press statement said the party was concerned that the incident occurred few weeks to the gubernatorial election.

“While the party declines to join the pontificating wagon to condemn and apportion blame on the unfortunate development, we believe strongly that the gravity of what has happened demands prompt action from the security agencies to immediately unravel what actually transpired, to forestall a recurrence.

“The chapter also calls on the national headquarters of INEC to do all it could to ensure the incident does not result in setbacks in its preparation for the governorship election in October.”

But Ondo Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Rufus Akeju, said the allegations were untrue.

Akeju stated that there was no basis to accused the electoral of using the fire to rig and queried whether the accusers knew what the card readers are used for.

No fewer than ten houses have collapsed and over 100 goats and cattle buried alive following a heavy downpour that rendered many people homeless in Angwar Quaza area of Gusau, Zamfara State capital.

DAILY POST reports that the houses collapsed in the wee hours of Thursday following an unexpected flood.
According to a resident of the area, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa who took our reporter to the reservoir where the goats and cattle were swept into, said that such flood had never occurred in the area.

” I can tell you authoritatively that the problem remains that in Gusau, as a capital of the state that was created in 1996, no single standard drainage has been constructed.

“Even the so-called standard roads constructed in the state by the immediate past administration led by former governor, Abdul Aziz Yari have no standard drainages to give the roads beautiful outlook.”

It could be recalled that since the rains started in Zamfara State, many people have lost their houses and farmlands and have remained homeless and jobless as they have no homes and farmlands due to the devastating effect of flood.

Our correspondent reports that on a daily basis, houses collapse and thousands of farmlands are washed away on the account of constant flooding in the state.

Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) says flood had killed 16 persons, destroyed 3,042 houses and several farmlands in the state.

Alhaji Shehu Ningi, the Permanent Secretary (PS) of SEMA told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Bauchi that 11 out of the 20 local government areas of the state were affected by the flood.

“The affected local government areas include Shira, Dambam, Katagum, Jammare, Warji, Itas, Alkaleri, Bauchi, Zaki Kirfi and Gamawa,” he said.
He said farmlands and crops including maize, millet, guinea corn and rice were destroyed as a result of the flood.

Ningi said the state government has directed the agency to provide relief materials to some affected communities in six local government areas.

He explained that relief materials provided to the victims include: assorted food items, medicine, beddings, canoes and temporary shelter.

“The affected victims have been temporarily relocated to various schools, mosques and relatives’ houses,” Ningi said.

Ningi added that the government was doing its best to avert the situation in other parts of the state.

“The Agency has embarked on a high level of sensitization to religious bodies and communities through jingles and other means of communication,” he said.

He urged the people to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse and erection of structures on the waterways.
Ningi stressed the need for government to expand drainage systems and engage in the construction of dams that would reduce the volume of water that goes into the communities.

Food prices in Nigeria are coming down- Garba Shehu

Garba Shehu, the Special Assistant on President Buhari on Media and Publicity, says contrary to public opinion, the prices of foodstuff across the country are coming down.

Garba said this when he appeared on Channels TV on Friday September 11, to discuss the recent directive President Buhari issued to the Central Bank of Nigeria to henceforth stop the release of forex for food and fertilizer importation.

A senior lecturer in the Department of Economics, University of Abuja, Dr Ahmed Adamu, faulted the directive of the President. According to him, it was a bad time to issue such a directive given that there is high inflation already in the economy.

Quote:“It is also a wrong time because we have not built the right infrastructure and not supplied the right agriculture facilities and we have not built the entire agriculture value chain.

We are also facing insecurity and a lot of farmers have been displaced from their farms and they cannot produce much. And now the government is discouraging cheap importation from other countries. It is going to create a lot of food scarcity in the country.

“Now we are seeing a high rise in the prices of food items in the country and this measure is going to increase the prices of food items further at a time when we just came out of COVID-19 lockdown.”Adamu said

While responding to the lecturer's position, Garba said

Quote:“To say the cost of food items is connected to the closure of the borders is absolutely wrong. And to say that the prices of food ain’t coming down, I think the scholar has detached himself from the market because we sat through the meeting of the National Food Security Council and we heard presentations by experts – people who had surveyed the markets.

As of yesterday (Thursday) in the morning of the meeting, go and check the index in markets. For instance in Kano, millets that had gone up to N24,000 has now gone down to N12,000, N13,000. Rice that had been N25,000 is now N20,000. Corn, maize is now N18,000 for the old stock and N14,000, N15,000 for the new stock.

So, to say that there is no change in the prices is to show one is completely detached from what is happening in the country.”

Responding to comments that his position is not the reality of many Nigerians, Garba said
Quote:“As the Germans say, if you want to get the best of the weather, open the windows. My suggestions to the journalists who sit and write all of these numbers is, send your correspondents to the streets, go to the markets and find out.

I didn’t say that all of the prices, the changes had crashed completely. They are coming down because the harvested items are coming into the market.

Prices are coming down, they will continue to go down as more and more food items are harvested. It’s a seasonal thing and we are going to see through this as well.”

Nigeria borrowed N18.89tn under Buhari – Report

 September 10, 2020

• Nigeria’s debt rises by N2.38tn, hits N31tn – DMO

• FG – N25.28tn, states – N5.73tn
• Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom post highest debts
Everest Amaefule, John Alechenu, Nike Popoola, ’Femi Asu and Okechukwu Nnodim
Nigeria’s debt public debt hit a total of N31.01tn at the end of June, the Debt Management Office announced on Wednesday.
This means that in the last five years under the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the country’s debt rose by N18.89tn.

As of the end of June 2015, one month after the present regime came into power, the country’s debt profile stood at N12.12tn.
This means that within a period of five years, the nation’s debt profile rose by N18.89tn.
It also means that the country’s debt profile has risen by 155.86 per cent within the five-year period.
Nigeria’s total public debt stock includes the debt stock of the Federal Government, the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

However, most of the debts were contracted by the Federal Government.
The Central Bank of Nigeria had on Tuesday released some data showing that the Federal Government’s component of the country’s debt stood at N24.52tn as of March 31.
A statement issued by the DMO on Wednesday indicated that the debt increased by N2.38tn within a space of three months.
For the country’s public debt stock as of June 30, 2020, the DMO said, “The data show that in naira terms, the total public debt stock which comprises the debt stock of the Federal Government, the 36 state governments and the FCT stood at N31.009tn or $85.897bn.

“The corresponding figures for March 31, 2020 were N28.628tn or $79.303bn.”

The debt office explained that the increase in the debt stock by N2.381tn or $6.59bn was accounted for by the $3.36bn budget support loan from the International Monetary Fund and new domestic borrowing to finance the revised 2020 Appropriation Act.
It said this includes the issuance of the N162.56bn Sukuk and promissory notes issued to settle claims of exporters.

The debt office said, “The DMO expects the public debt stock to grow as the balance of the new domestic borrowing is raised and expected disbursements are made by the World Bank, African Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank which were arranged to finance the 2020 Budget.

“Recall that the 2020 Appropriation Act had to be revised in the face of the adverse and severe impact of COVID-19 on government’s revenues and increased expenditure needs on health and economic stimulus, among others.”

It stated that additional promissory notes were expected to be issued in the course of the year.
This and new borrowings by state governments were also expected to increase the public debt stock, the DMO explained.

A breakdown of the country’s total debt showed that the external component amounted to N11.36tn or 36.65 per cent of the total debt.

This leaves N19.65tn or 63.35 per cent of the country’s debt portfolio as the domestic component.

The external debt commitment of the Federal Government alone stood at N9.82tn or 31.68 per cent of the total debt profile.

On the other hand, the external debt commitment of the states and the FCT stood at N1.54tn or 4.96 per cent of the total debt commitment.
The domestic debt of the Federal Government only stood at N15.46tn or 49.84 per cent of the national total debt.

The states and the FCT, on the other hand, owe domestic debt of N4.19tn. This is equivalent of the 13.51 per cent of the nation’s total debt commitment.

On the whole, the Federal Government owe N25.28tn while the subnational governments owe N5.73tn.
In proportional terms, the Federal Government holds 81.52 per cent of the nation’s total public debt while the subnational governments hold 18.48 per cent of the country’s total debt.

The growing size of the nation’s debt profile can be seen in the growing size of the debt servicing commitment.

In the first six months of the year, the country spent N921.93bn on domestic debt servicing.

An analysis of the commitment shows that N251.35bn was paid on domestic debt servicing in January; N158.12bn in February; N199.66bn in March; N228.32bn in April; N37.87bn in May and N46.61bn in June.
The government had earlier indicated that a total of N1.57tn was spent on servicing both external and domestic debts in the first six months of the year.
Experts have recently been raising alarm on the high cost of debt servicing, especially when compared to expenses on capital projects and dwindling revenues.

Recently, the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Mr Clem Agba, highlighted the scenario when he said the nation spent a total of N1.57tn on debt servicing in the first six months.

He added that within the same timeframe, the Federal Government’s retained revenue was N1.81tn, or 68 per cent of prorated target.

The Director-General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Muda Yusuf, said the debt situation was not surprising having regard to the devastating impact of oil price plunge on revenue and foreign exchange earnings.

He said, “Ironically, not much changes have taken place in the area of cost reduction.

“Expenditure has been rather sticky. Reforms that could ease the expenditure burden have been slow in coming.

“What do you expect in a scenario of dwindling revenue and escalating costs?”
He said the outcome was a further complication of the debt situation.

Issues around the high governance cost needed to be addressed, he added.
Yusuf said the quality of government spending, the cost of borrowing and revenue optimisation issues deserved greater attention.

On the other hand, the Peoples Democratic Party said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and the regime he heads had placed Nigeria on auction in the international market.

National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, said this in response to inquiries over Nigeria’s rising debt profile.

He said “This administration has placed our nation in the international auction market.

“Any administration that toys with the sovereignty of our nation because of foreign loans will push our nation into reckless debt.

“This is what we have been going through under this administration that has nothing to show in the area of infrastructural development or economic wellbeing of our people in spite of these huge foreign loans.”

Former President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Dr Sam Nzekwe, said it was worrisome that such huge amount had been taken as loans.

“How will you be able to pay with dwindling revenue and rising cost of governance,” he asked.

“The foreign debts are paid in dollars and if sale of crude is increasing, we will have more dollars, if it is decreasing, we will have less dollars,” he added.

An economist and Chairman of the Foundation for Economic Research and Training, Prof. Akpan Ekpo, said the government should focus more on domestic resource mobilisation.
Ekpo, who is a former director-general, West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management, said, “The borrowing is getting too much. If you really need to borrow, you must justify it, and there should be transparency about what you are borrowing for.”
On alternatives to borrowing, he said the government could expand the tax base, not to increase the rate, so that more people can enter the tax net.

He said the government should do more public, private partnerships with respect to projects and encourage ministries, departments and agencies to partner with development partners for grants.
Ekpo also stressed the need for the government to reduce the cost of governance, which he described as ‘too high’.
Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom post highest debts
On domestic debt data for the 36 states and the FCT as of June 30, 2020, the DMO stated that Lagos had the highest debt stock of N493.3bn.

Rivers and Akwa Ibom states also posted high debt stock during the review period, as their domestic debt stocks were N266.9bn and N239.2bn respectively.
The DMO, however, pointed out that the domestic debt stock figures for Rivers were as of December 31, 2018.
Delta, Cross River, Imo and Bayelsa states also recorded high debts, as their debt stocks as of June 30 were N235.8bn, N165bn, N158.1bn and N150bn respectively.

States with the lowest debt stock during the period of review as captured by the DMO include Yobe, N29.2bn; Jigawa, N36bn; Ebonyi, N41bn; and Katsina, N44.4bn.

AMCON denies ‘rebranding’ Arik says it wants to create independent entity

11th September 2020

DESPITE all evidence to the contrary, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) says it is not rebranding any of the five airlines under its control but has approached the aviation authorities in the country seeking a license for an independent entity where all of its aviation assets would be transferred and efficiently managed.

A statement issued last night by Head, Corporate Communications Department, AMCON Mr. Jude Nwauzor in reaction to our story stated that AMCON’s aim is to support the sector and more importantly recover the huge debt owed the Corporation by these aviation entities.
However, with its response and the change of Arik Air’s livery and planned change of name, as well as seeking bulk licensing for all airlines under them; AMCON is yet to explain how what is being carried out is not a rebrand whether of one or all the airlines under it control.

The statement in trying to explain the rebranded Arik aircraft sited in Addis Ababa MRO while undergoing a livery change read:
“Following its mandate especially as it relates to the aviation sector of the Nigerian economy, it is public knowledge that the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) had approached the aviation authorities in the country seeking a license for an independent entity where all of its aviation assets would be transferred and efficiently managed in a synergetic manner.

“AMCON currently has more than five airlines in its aviation portfolio among other assets that are scattered all over.

The proposed new entity therefore has nothing to do with the rebranding any of the airlines within its portfolio as being speculated in several online publications.

“The objective of AMCON’s intervention in the aviation sector is targeted at supporting the sector, given its importance, save thousands of jobs, make the aviation sector a catalyst for the growth of the Nigerian economy and recover the huge debt owed the Corporation by these aviation entities,” it ended

HUSHED plans to rebrand Arik Air and rename the carrier, Nigeria Eagle ( NG Eagle) may have been concluded as Nigerianflightdeck have sighted one of the airline’s aircraft undergoing paint job with a new livery.

[Image: IMG_20200910_133317-scaled.jpg?resize=395%2C790&ssl=1]Nigeria Eagle prototype side view
In February, our reporter had gotten hold of a prototype of the livery which shows the new logo of an eagle branded on the aircraft’s engine, tail painted in green colour, with s touch of grey and the moniker NG Eagle boldly written on the starboard.

Insider sources also state that the Nigerian Eagle transform is been on the burner a while but is driven by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and since they control the airline they are calling the shots in that regard
Although efforts to reach AMCON spokesman Jude Nwauzor on when this is hsppening were abortive, it is on record that the AMCON chief Executive, Ahmed Kuru in recent times have called for Arik to be made a national carrier under the grounds that it is not only cheaper to government but has all it takes to set it up.

Kuru in 2019 made similar calls to the National Assembly and publicly when Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika started his national carrier drive argued that it would cost less
According to him, a new carrier would cost Federal Government a fortune, but Arik is already set and has enough aircraft and facilities that can be used to set up a new airline and if the government wants to.

[Image: IMG_20200910_133323-scaled.jpg?resize=395%2C790&ssl=1]Nigeria Eagle prototype top view
This plea has met immediate resistance
from the Sirika who had in 2017 laid the foundation for Nigeria Air, which is yet to get an Air Operators Certificate ( AOC) or take any concrete form despite promises that that would happen in 2018 by the former Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority ( NCAA) DG.

Arik Air is one of the few airlines including Aero Contractors and Afrijet which the asset managers control and this transformation may be a move to restrategize all of AMCONs investment in the aviation sub-sector.

The industry still awaits the big unveil for the airline which was a trail blazer when it was established.

Journalist Oluwatosin Adeshokan apologizes for  taking sexual advantage of teenagers but Nigerians call him out on the apology

Oluwatosin Adeshokan has apologized after a number of women came out to accuse him of taking advantage of them when they were teenagers.

The accusations of sexual misconduct started pouring in after his friend and fellow journalist, Kiki Mordi took to Twitter to call him out after she discovered what he had allegedly been doing to girls. He was accused of claiming to be a feminist only to use the opportunity to gain the trust of young girls in the feminist space and young female writers.

Some of the girls claim he starts out by telling them he loves how they write then he preys on them after gaining their confidence.

Hours after the accusations started, Oluwatosin apologized on Twitter, writing: "I'm sorry to everyone, I truly am. There's no explanation for what I've said and done but I'm honestly and truly sorry. I was idiotic and there's no explanation. I swear I am sorry for my actions. I don't know how to make this right but I want to. I really am sorry."

He added in another tweet: "I’m honestly and truly sorry for everything I did. I rationalised it in my head by thinking it was sexual banter. It wasn’t. I made people uncomfortable. I’m honestly and truly sorry. I know this it too little too late and I was caught and this seems like I’m trying to save face."

The tweet had a photo text that reads:

Quote:I’m sorry for making everybody feel uncomfortable. I will like to sincerely apologise to anyone and everyone that I have had inappropriate conversations with in the past. I’m particularly sorry because I had the trust of the women and my friends.

I take absolute responsibility for my behaviour. I was stupid and idiotic. I have honestly tried to do better as a person. I deeply deeply regret those conversations and hoped that with time, it would go away as I kept trying to be better.

I know that nobody owes me forgiveness or even the work that comes with me trying to do better. But, I really am honestly sorry and I am trying to do better.

I have been reaching out in private to some of the people I’ve been inappropriate with. I also understand that waiting until now to do this betrays what I’m saying.

I know nothing I ever say will make it right, but I promise to do better now and moving forward.

Asides apologizing on Twitter, it appears he had sent private messages to the women involved to apologize to them. This seemed to anger them even more as they claim he was sending them all the same message.

"You call this an apology?! Especially after copy pasting the same bs in all the women's dms" You're sick! You don't deserve any mercy!" One Twitter user wrote.

Other Twitter users also found faults with his apology and they called him out.

Oluwatosin has now gone private on Twitter following the outrage.

Mass Actions Against Fuel Price Hike Begin Next Week
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 09-11-2020, 12:33 PM - No Replies

Quote:The society group, Joint Action Front (JAF), in conjunction with hundreds of other organisations, has started a national mobilization, asking Nigerians to prepare for mass actions against the recent fuel price hike and increase in electricity tariff.

The group has fixed Wednesday September 16th for the commencement of the mass actions to demand the “immediate and unconditional reversal of the hike in petrol price from the N160 to the N86.50.”

Chairperson of JAF, Dr. Dipo Fashina, and Secretary of JAF, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, stated this in a briefing on the outcome of the national consultation with civil society organisations and some trade unions.

This is just as hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Lagos on Thursday to demand the reversal of the fuel price hike and electricity tariff.

However, the protest staged by the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN), was disrupted by security agencies which also arrested some of the protesters, including journalists fueling condemnation from the International Press Centre (IPC).

Aremu, who briefed the press on the proposed mass actions, described the latest increase in fuel price from N150 to N162 as “wicked”.

“We, thereby, condemn and reject the latest wicked increases in prices of fuel, electricity tariffs and value added tax (VAT), and contended that it is a product of the capitalist neoliberal policies of Privatisation and Deregulation,” he said.

They called on the “Nigerian working people, the oppressed poor masses, students, traders, professionals, women, unemployed youth, farmers, artisans, Muslims, Christians and faith based organisations to prepare to use mass actions to reject, resist and defeat the latest imposition of hardships by the deceptive and anti-poor people Buhari regime on Nigerians, which if not resisted and defeated, would compound the miserable existence of the vast majority of Nigerians, who are still groaning with the attacks of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The meeting urged Nigerians across the country to hold mass meetings and sensitisation rallies to reject the latest hikes and to struggle to defeat it, preparatory to the commencement of mass actions, which we agreed should commence Wednesday, September 16, 2020,” he said.

Deputy Chairperson of JAF, Comrade Achike Jude, in a chat with our correspondent, said: “This government came to power on the back of the promises they made to people to right all the wrongs of the previous administration.

“We cannot continue to provide excuses for their monumental failure.

“The unfortunate thing is that government officials, who are enjoying all the privileges and appurtenances of office, would come on air to tell us how expensive petroleum products are in other parts of West Africa.

“Nigeria is Nigeria, an independent nation that produces crude oil, sends it out of the country, and brings it back to sell to citizens at prices they cannot afford.

“The implication is that already the inflation rate has been exceedingly very high and Nigerians cannot afford it.

“The minimum wage of N30,000 which is a scandal that you promised Nigerian workers, they are not getting it.

“Even if they get it, they still cannot do anything meaningful with it if you have a family of three.

“How can a government who knows that about 110m of its citizens are operating on less than two dollars a day, impose this kind of hardship on the Nigerian people?

“Is it because those that are in government are so privileged that they are outside the suffering of the Nigerian people and they do not face the realities that Nigerians face every single day.

“This is a clarion call to Nigerians who are being marginalized and oppressed in their own country.”

Earlier in the day, the protest against fuel price hike in parts of Lagos was disrupted by security agents.

Daily Trust reports that the protest organised by the SPN started from Yaba with protesters marching towards Surulere and Ojuelegba.

But the protesters met stiff resistance from the Police and officers of the Department of State Security (DSS) who allegedly arrested some of them including journalists covering the protest.

A member of the SPN who was part of the protest said about 30 security vehicles were mobilised at Yaba to disperse the protesters.

As of the time of filing this report, the arrested protesters were still in custody of the police.

PDP reacts as Fayose warns Gov Makinde not to come to Ekiti

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, lacked the moral right to complain about the leadership of the party in the South West.

The party spoke against the backdrop of media reports that Fayose on Wednesday, warned the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to steer clear of the leadership of the party in Ekiti and other South West states.

A statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday by the Chairman of the party in Ogun State, Hon. Samson Bamgbose, quoted him as saying that it was an irony of fate that Fayose who refused to allow legally-recognised Ogun State PDP Exco to function since 2016 could be complaining of interference.

“We are surprised that Mr. Fayose could be talking of the need to allow some persons to complete their terms and run the party in their states, whereas he is the master of impunity and meddlesomeness.

“He is the brain behind the impostors that he has been associating with in Ogun State. He has been supporting them against the Rule of Law since his days as governor of Ekiti State.

“He truncated the tenure of the South West Zonal Exco as well as that of Prof. Wale Oladipo and the late Alhaji Fatai Adeyanju as National Secretary and National Auditor. He ran the party like his personal business when he was the only PDP governor in the South West.”

The statement reads further, “We have been following Mr. Fayose’s forlorn dream to be the imperial leader of the PDP in the South West in spite of the fact that he is not the only former governor of the PDP in the zone.
“We do not know what he stands to gain in undermining notable leaders and elders of the PDP in the South West, especially the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who God has chosen to be the new leader of the PDP in the South West.

“It is high time Mr. Fayose woke up from his dream and faced the reality that his time has passed and a new leader has emerged; and we must genuinely accept Engr. Makinde without any dispute as the one who has been anointed by the Almighty God to lead us in the South West PDP at this point in time.

“When Mr. Fayose held sway as the Governor of Ekiti State, he never allowed anyone to challenge him. He bamboozled and suppressed everyone as governor even when we had the more experienced and mature Dr. Olusegun Mimiko as governor of Ondo State.”

The party appealed to notable leaders and elders of the PDP like Chief Bode George, Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedokun, Senator Abiodun Olujinmi and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, among others, to rally round Makinde to take PDP to greater heights.

It wondered why Fayose enjoys destroying other people’s legacies while protecting his own.

“Mr. Fayose takes delight in betraying his friends because of his selfish interest. After our beloved leader, the late Senator Buruji Kashamu supported him to emerge as the Governor of Ekiti State in 2014, he betrayed him and nearly drove him out of the PDP.

“He worked against the PDP and Senator Olujinmi’s re-election but God disappointed him.

“We would have thought that that would have taught him a lesson. But no, he continues with his unbridled arrogance and bloated ego,” the party added.

“It urged the Governors and other national leaders of the PDP “to call Mr. Fayose to order before he plunges the PDP in the South West into another round of avoidable crisis because of his unbridled ambition and insatiable hunger for power.”

‘You can’t lift anyone out of poverty, stop false hope’ – NNPP chieftain, Bamgbose attacks Buhari

on
 September 11, 2020

A Chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Olusegun Bamgbose, has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty as pure fallacy, unrealistic and tantamount to giving false hope to the people.

Recall that Buhari, in his recent address, at the retreat for Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and other top government officials, informed Nigerians of his administration’s readiness to lift 100 million citizens out of poverty in the next 10 years.

“This is pure fallacy. It’s basically unrealistic. It’s tantamount to giving Nigerians false hope,” the senior lawyer said in a chat with DAILY POST on Friday.

“One of his Ministers once told us that about 90 million Nigerians are living in poverty, how come the President tells us now that he will lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty?

“How did he get the additional 10 million Nigerians?” He wondered.

Bamgbose said that this was an indication that the statement lacked merit but was just politically motivated to deceive innocent Nigerians and give them false hope of a better future, when there is absolutely no concrete plan to achieve it.

He wondered how many Nigerians the administration can boast of lifting out of poverty in the last five years, while cautioning the President to desist from giving Nigerians false hope.

“Nigerians can’t be fooled any longer. In the same retreat, the President urged his Ministers to blow their trumpets, that they have achieved much,” he added.

“This is laughable, because there is no trumpet to blow, except that of hardship, poverty and sufferings. Poor masses are in pains as a result of the hike in electricity tariffs and fuel pump price.

“Poverty is on the increase. Unemployment is yet to be decisively tackled, insecurity everywhere. Which trumpet will the Ministers blow?

“The most appropriate thing for him to do is to sack them, it’s overdue. The statement credited to President Buhari at the retreat, ‘I have to charge all of you to defend the government vigorously and not to allow any IRRESPONSIBLE and politically motivated statements….’

“To say the least, this statement is unpresidential. The President calling critics, irresponsible, is unjustifiable.
“Critics deserve apology for this. In May 2013, Buhari asked Jonathan to resign and give way to a competent hand to govern the country.

“In 2012, Buhari was quoted to have said, ‘the dog and baboon would all be soaked in blood’ if the election was rigged.

“He expressed himself freely without anyone calling him irresponsible, why then should he now refer to his critics as irresponsible.

“This is not justifiable on any ground. He has to apologize to the critics. President Buhari should be informed that he is democratically elected as President of Nigeria and he swore to defend the constitution.

“The constitution guarantees freedom of speech and expression. This is never a military regime. Nigerians should be free to express themselves without any fear of molestation and harassment whatsoever. I call on the President to be cautious in addressing his fellow citizens,” he stated.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

 FRIDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER

MANIFESTING HIS VIRTUES AND EXCELLENCE

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9 AMPC).

As God’s children, we’re called to display the virtues and perfections of Christ; this is our ministry; this is our life. Jesus said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches…” (John 15:5). The branches are the fruit-bearing part of the vine. We bear His fruits, His virtues.

Hatred, bitterness, rage, lying, and the likes aren’t God’s virtues. Therefore, they aren’t part of the makeup or features of your recreated spirit. Rather, you’re to display God’s kindness, love, compassion, patience, meekness, gentleness, wisdom and excellence. Exude excellence in your home, school, place of work, and everywhere. Let it show in everything about you.

Furthermore, display His virtues and perfections through your gracious, soul-lifting and faith-inspiring words, full of life and power, converting the soul.

He’s made us wonders in this world; vessels to show forth His glory and righteousness. Through you, He expresses His love to others, establishing His Kingdom in the hearts of men. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I live a life of glory, power, success and influence. I’m His workmanship, fashioned in Christ Jesus to display His wonderful deeds, virtues, perfections, excellence and wisdom in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

I affirm that this is the morning of my life, and I am filled with the fullness of God! I’ve been called into fellowship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

I live a successful and inspiring life because I function in, and live by the Name of Jesus! I am energized and aglow with the anointing today; and the grace and peace

of God are multiplied to me through the knowledge of God, as I walk in and with the Spirit to impact my world with the Gospel. I function daily by the principles of the Kingdom.

I experience the refreshing of the Spirit as I speak in other tongues; my life is transformed, and my spirit is conditioned for success, dominion, and victory.

The eyes of my understanding are enlightened and I know the next steps to take. I do not walk in confusion or darkness because greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. I walk in victory, dominion, and righteousness.

No weapon fashioned against me prospers because I am born of God, and my life is hid with Christ in God. Christ is my address and I am making progress by the Spirit, and moving forward from one level of glory to an even higher realm of glory, and my success is apparent to all. Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

Read some of the 'Love Letters' Donald Trump traded with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un

American Journalist, Bob Woodward’s latest Donald Trump book, which is trending after excerpts detailed Trump's candid thoughts about the true threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, has now revealed that the US president shared about 27 letters between himself and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Trump, 74, is a 'friend' of the 36 year old authoritarian leader and has previously revealed that he and Kim have shared 'love letters' before.

According to CNN, Woodward, saw some of the letters while working on his book Rage, set for release next week, and he recorded transcripts into his audio recorder.

The Trump-Kim letters, two of which Trump has already tweeted, one from him and one from Kim — further detail what the North Korean leader reportedly described as “a special friendship” that has grown since they surprisingly held a historic face-to-face meeting in Singapore in June 2018, the first of it's kind between a US and North Korean leader.

They now met a second time on Feb. 28, 2019, in Vietnam, and a third time inside the Korean Demilitarized Zone between North Korea and South Korea on June 30 later that year. At their third meeting, Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to step foot into North Korea when he took 20 steps into the country.

In some of the letters Kim referred to Trump as "Your Excellency." and the letters give an insight into the weird unorthodox relationship both leaders shared.

According to CNN, who obtained audio excerpts of the letters from Woodward, Kim wrote a letter to Trump reminiscing about their Singapore meeting on Christmas night in 2018 .

Kim wrote: "Even now I cannot forget that moment of history when I firmly held Your Excellency's hand at the beautiful and sacred location as the whole world watched with great interest and hope to relive the honor of that day."
"As we enter the new year the whole world will certainly once again come to see, not so far in the future, another historic meeting between myself and Your Excellency reminiscent of a scene from a fantasy film," Kim continued.

Trump then replied three days later, in a more standard response: "Like you, I have no doubt that a great result will be accomplished between our two countries, and that the only two leaders who can do it are you and me."

In another letter from Trump to Kim in May 2018, before the Singapore summit, the president wrote:
"I felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me" but he nonetheless cautioned Kim against "open hostility."

In June 2019,  Trump wrote another letter to Kim saying they "have a unique style and a special friendship" and that only their partnership "can resolve the issues between our two counties and end nearly 70 years of hostility, bringing an era of prosperity to the Korean Peninsula that will exceed all our greatest expectations."
"You will be the one to lead," Trump wrote. "It will be historic!"

In June 10, 2019, Kim responded that he believes the two leaders have a “deep and special friendship between us that will work as a magical force,”

Kim also wished Trump a happy 73rd birthday.

Remember as early as 2017, while speaking with reporters at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club, Trump threatened Kim, saying, “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States” or else “they will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.

He also repeatedly referred to Kim as “Little Rocket Man”

Quote:Fire gutted the Ondo State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday, destroying Smart Card Readers.

This came barely one month to the governorship election in the state.

The cause of the inferno was unknown as of the time of filing this report.

The PUNCH gathered that the fire also destroyed some items in a section of the office.

When one of our correspondents visited the scene, security operatives cordoned off the premises.

The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, confirmed the incident in a short statement titled ‘Fire at INEC office in Akure’.

He noted that the commission would commence an immediate investigation into the cause of the fire.

He said, “Fire broke out today (Thursday) September 10, 2020, at the Ondo State Head Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Akure.

“The inferno, which gutted the container housing Smart Card Readers, started at 7.30 pm. Men of the Fire Service are however currently containing the fire.

“INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, who is in Ondo State in connection with preparations for the Ondo State Governorship election scheduled for October 10, 2020, rushed to the office about 8 pm.

Quote:The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended the nationwide industrial action.

Dr Aliyu Sokumba who is the President of NARD confirmed this to Channels Television on Thursday evening.

Dr Sokumba disclosed that the union will review the progress made in talks with the Federal Government in two weeks.

On Wednesday, the Federal Government and the doctors reached an agreement in a bid to end the industrial action.

During the meeting which almost took the entire day, NARD had disclosed that it will liaise with the executive council with a view to calling off the strike.

Both parties had been in talks to resolve the issues which led to NARD declaring an end to the country-wide strike.

After the meeting, the Federal said an additional N8.9 billion has been approved to pay up a large chunk of the June 2020 COVID-19 allowance to all health workers across the nation,

This was revealed by Senator Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Ngige stated that the implementation of the payment of the Special Hazard and Inducement Allowance has been concluded, stressing that this has been cash-backed and the mandate sent to the Central Bank of Nigeria for payments to start with effect from September 9.

According to him, this will bring the total disbursement to about N288 billion.

The doctors embarked on the strike to resolve issues bothering on group life insurance for doctors and other health care workers, payment of death-in-service benefit to next of kin/beneficiaries, universal implementation of the medical Residency Training Act in all Federal and state hospitals, immediate review of the hazard allowance of healthcare workers and payment of the COVID-19 inducement allowance

‘Fed Govt, states, councils shared N3.88tr in six months’
• Shared N1.93tr in Q2
September 9, 2020

THE Federation Accounts AllocationCommittee (FAAC) has shared N3.879 trillion to the Federal Government, states, local government areas and other statutory recipients in the first half of this year.

A breakdown of the disbursements showed that N1.53 trillion went to the Federal Government, while the states got N1.29 trillion and the 774 local government areas received N771.34 billion

The information and data are contained in the latest edition of the quarterly review of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) released yesterday in Abuja.

Its Director, Communications and Advocacy, Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, in a statement said the “NEITI Quarterly Review reports that the N1.53trillion received by the FG in H1 2020 was 4.28per cent lower than the N1.599 trillion it got in the first half of 2019 and 7.36per cent lower than the N1.652 trillion it received in the first half of 2018.”

The story is the same for the states and local government areas. “For states, a total of N1.298 trillion was disbursed in the first half of 2020. This was 2.8per cent lower than the N1.35 trillion disbursed in the first half of 2019, and 5.6per cent lower than the N1.375 trillion disbursed in the first half of 2020,” the report stated.

For local government areas, the first half disbursements were 2.64per cent and 3.04per cent lower than the corresponding disbursements for 2019 and 2018.

The report, however, notes that disbursements in Q2 2020 were 1.09per cent higher than total disbursements in Q2 2019 and 3.66per cent lower than the one for Q2 2018.

FAAC disbursements in the second quarter of 2020 stood at N1.934 trillion. This was made up of N739.2 billion to the Federal Government, N629.3 billion to state governments, and N375.4 billion to the 774 local government areas.

The report pointed out that the total FAAC disbursements in the second quarter of 2020 was slightly lower than the N1.945 trillion disbursed in the first quarter of 2020. This aligned with the projections made in the previous issue of the NEITI Quarterly Review, which projected lower FAAC disbursement in the second quarter.

The NEITI report attributed the 0.55per cent decrease in Q2 2020 to a couple of factors, namely: “Rebound in oil prices in the second quarter as a result of ease of lockdowns by countries across the world and the adjustment of the official exchange rate by the CBN from N307/$1 to N360/$1 in March resulting in higher naira disbursements.”

The report also said FAAC disbursements in the first and second quarters of 2020 were very volatile, with the difference in total disbursements between months ranging between N58.9 billion and N199.3 billion.

Nigeria’s debt hits N31tr
September 10, 2020

Nigeria’s total debt stock has risen in the last three months to N31.009 trillion ($85.897 billion), from N28.628 trillion ($79.303billion), according to the Debt Management Office (DMO).

DMO yesterday in Abuja new total debt figure comprises the debt stock of the Federal Government, the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The N2.381trillion (or $6.593 billion) increase recorded in the debt Stock, the DMO said, “was accounted for by the $3.36 billion Budget Support Loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).”

Other contributors to the nation’s growing debt profile include “New Domestic Borrowing to finance the Revised 2020 Appropriation Act, the issuance of the N162.557 billion Sukuk and Promissory Notes issued to settle Claims of Exporters”.

The DMO has also warned that it expects the Public Debt Stock to grow. “The nation’s debt will grow because of “the balance of the New Domestic Borrowing and expected disbursements are made by the World Bank, African Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank, which were arranged to finance the 2020 Budget”.

The DMO said more Promissory Notes would be issued later, adding: “This and new borrowings by state governments are also expected to increase the Public Debt Stock”.

It will be recalled that the 2020 Appropriation Act had to be revised in the face of the adverse and severe impact of COVID-19 on Government’s Revenues and increased expenditure needs on health and economic stimulus, amongst others.

As a result of these borrowings from multilateral financial institutions, the federal government will be compelled to meet some stringent conditionalities like the removal petroleum products subsidy, adjusted electricity tariffs, currency value adjustments and the IMF auditing of the books of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Family cries out as man dies in police custody in Lagos

A 38-year-old man, who was arrested for allegedly planning to abduct the monarch of Isiu in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, has died in the custody of the Zone 2 police command and his family wants answers.

Yemi Taiwo, a land Agent, was arrested alongside one of his friends, Femi Animashaun, by a combined team of local vigilante members in Ikorodu, popularly known as Onyabo, and some palace thugs known as Tobalase in Isiu community.

In a video made available to newsmen, the two accused persons were stripped and tortured in the premises of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area.

The wife of the deceased, Olabisi Taiwo, said her husband left home in the Gberigbe area of Ikorodu for Isiu, where he bought some plots of land, and was arrested.

She said in tears: "He told me that he would first stop at his boss's office before going to site but he never came back to meet his two children and wife.

"Around 11.pm on the fateful day, his younger brother, Deji, who is staying with us, rushed home and told me that he heard that his brother had been killed."

She continued: "I was very distraught and quickly lost my senses but after some hours, they called back that he was not dead but that he had been arrested with some people who are planning to abduct the monarch of Isiu.

"We didn't hear anything until late in the evening on Friday when I was told that he had been taken to the annex of Zonal Investigative Bureau in Ladegboye area, Ikorodu by some policemen, who were invited.

"I went there on that same day. I was not allowed to see him by the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) who was identified as Lati. We were told that he was not there.

"I went there again on Saturday and Sunday and was still not allowed to see him, but on that Sunday, one of his brothers, Awobajo, who went there to see him, was also detained by the policemen.

"Awobajo was later released on Monday and he told me that the IPO asked him the location of my husband's properties and that he would sell them off because we don't know the gravity of our offence.

"Early on Tuesday morning, the policemen brought my husband and Femi out of the cell and they were tortured in preparation for their transfer to Zone 2 headquarters in Onikan.

"I was told that on their way to Onikan, some land thugs sprinkled some water on them on the road. I learnt that, when my husband and Femi were brought to Zone 2, when the superior officer saw the condition of my husband and his friend with injuries all over their bodies, he rejected them and told the IPO to go and treat them first before he can allow them into the cell.

"It was while they were returning them back to their annex at Ikorodu that my husband died and the IPO is now saying that he does not know what to do again. He does not want to release the body of my husband to me.

"I am appealing to the Inspector General of Police to come to my aid. Those who connived with the police to kill my husband are bragging to have the support of powerful monarchs and the Lagos State Government. I don't want my husband to die in vain."

The Zone 2, Command spokesperson, DSP Hauwa Idris declined to comment on the incident, stating simply: "I cannot confirm any story now, I am busy, we are hosting a GOC, call me later."

He said members of the local vigilante group were overwhelmed.

“We didn’t sleep throughout the night. It’s this morning that the vigilantes told us about 20 people were abducted,” he said.

The attack is coming weeks after reports suggested that members of the extremist group, Boko Haram, had infiltrated the federal capital.

Fire At Beirut Port, Lebanon, One Month After Lebanon Explosion
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Huge fire breaks out at Beirut port a month after explosion

BEIRUT -- A huge fire broke out Thursday at the Port of Beirut, sending up a thick column of black smoke and raising new panic among traumatized residents after last month's catastrophic blast at the same site killed nearly 200 people.

It was unclear what caused the blaze at the facility, which was decimated by the Aug. 4 explosion when nearly 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate blew up and sent out a shock wave that caused widespread damage and was felt as far away as the island of Cyprus.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5yK-jCZjZc

Dark smoke covered the capital on Thursday as army helicopters sprayed water over the orange flames leaping from the ground.

The Lebanese army said the fire started in the port's duty free zone at a warehouse with containers of tires, oil and other flammable materials.

Panicked residents — still struggling to recover from last month’s explosion — cracked open windows and called and texted each other to warn them of the new danger. Local TV stations said companies that have offices near the port asked employees to leave the area.

Some hid in bathrooms, while others dropped what they were doing and rushed home.

“We opened all windows and are in the corridor right now,” said Dana Awad, a mother of two girls in a Beirut neighborhood, recalling the tremor that preceded the earlier explosion. “I am still feeling the earth shake. Living a flashback.”

A video on social media showed port employees running in fear from the fire, a chilling reminder of the dozens of workers and 10 firefighters who were killed in the blast. Lebanese troops closed the major road near the port, rerouting traffic to other areas.

The Aug. 4 explosion killed 191 people, injured about 6,500 and damaged thousands of buildings. The explosion, the single most destructive blast in Lebanon's history, is blamed on government negligence and mismanagement.

Oyo traditional worshippers stage protest against discrimination, demand 5 public holidays

The Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter, on Tuesday, morning, September 8, staged a peaceful protest to express their grievance over discrimination against deities worshippers.

The Traditional Worshippers who stormed the Oyo State Government secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan at about 11:00 am were seen with different placards asking the state government to stop the marginalization and neglect of the association.

According to Oyo Affairs News correspondent, the traditional Religion worshippers demanded for five holidays. One of the placards reads,

"Orisa devotees are also citizens of Oyo State"

Addressing newsmen, the General Secretary, Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association of Nigeria, Dr. Ifayemi Ifakayode, said the protest was a sequel to the discrimination suffered in the hands of the Oyo state government and the refusal of governor Seyi Makinde to give them an audience and approve public holidays for the traditional worshippers.

Also speaking, the President General, Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter, chief Olukunmi Egbelade, charged governor Seyi Makinde to give necessary regards to the traditional religion worshippers and also rehabilitate tourist Centers across the state.

While receiving the traditional worshipers on behalf of governor Seyi Makinde, the executive assistant to the governor on Security matters, retired CP Sunday Odukoya, appealed to the protesters to be civil in their agitation and assured that he will deliver their messages to the governor.

It is wrong for courts to decide elections – Jonathan

on
 September 10, 2020

Former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has said that the outcome of elections must be decided by ballots and not by courts.

Jonathan stated this while speaking on The Osasu Show Symposium 2020.

According to him, electronic voting is the only way to get to credible elections in Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

“For elections to be democratic, that means that the outcome of the elections must depend on the ballot, not any other institution, not even the court.

“If the ballots don’t decide who wins, then we are not practicing democracy.

“And if we are now in a situation where people use force of arms and thugs to win elections, then we can’t say we are practicing democracy,” he said.

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has berated former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, for failing to stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at the Coronation of the Oniru of Iruland in Lagos state on Sunday, September 6.

The Ooni of Ife had arrived at the event and was walking to the high table when he stopped by to greet Tinubu.

Some Nigerians took to social media to bash Tinubu for failing to accord the monarch his respect by standing up to greet him. Others have also condemned the monarch for stopping to greet Tinubu.

In a tweet posted this morning, FFK says it was "insulting and shameful" for Tinubu to have refused to stand up to greet the monarch.

Quote:''That the Asiwaju of Bourdillon refused to stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife speaks volumes. This was not only deeply insulting to every Ife & indeed son & daughter of Odua but it is also a crying shame. Would a northern pol. leader refuse to stand up for his traditional ruler?''his tweet reads

At least 264 Nigerians have committed suicide in the last 4 years

No fewer than 264 suicide cases were recorded in Nigeria within the last 4 years.

The victims, comprising males and females, took their lives between January 2017 and August 2020, according to an investigation by Daily Trust to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, which is today, September 10.

The theme of this year’s World Suicide Prevention Day is "Working Together to Prevent Suicide”.

The number of recorded cases of suicide in Nigeria was arrived at by reviewing newspaper reports within the period.

This figure excluded numerous suicide cases that have not been reported by the media.

Nigeria is ranked 10th African country with higher rates of suicide.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that close to 800, 000 people die due to suicide every year.

This means at least one person kills self every 40 seconds.

The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) said suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29-year olds globally.

JSS 3 student knocked down, seriously injured as illegal task force and cab driver drag steering wheel in Rivers State

A young boy said to be a JSS 3 student sustained life threatening injuries after he was allegedly knocked down by some disbanded members of Rivers Task force while trying to wrest control of the streering wheel following an argument with a cab driver in  Rivers State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon, September 9, at Ozuoba in Obi/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The boy was rushed to the nearest hospital while an angry mob succeeded in arresting one of the fake task force members and handed him over to Ozuoba Police Station.

Narrating how the incident happened, the victim's teacher, Goldy Ude, said that the boy was returning from a WAEC French exam when the vehicle knocked him down. He lost most of his teeth while his face was mutilated.

Ude wrote;
"The above pictures shows details of a very disheartening story of task force boys who though disbanded by the government still do their illegal job,"
"This afternoon one of my students, a JSS 3 boy who was returning from a French exam was knocked down by a Siena bus whose steering was seized by the hooligans. The vehicle totally left the main road and lifted the poor boy from the pedestrian walkway. one of them was caught and handed over to the police in Ozuoba,"

"The boy was rushed unconscious to hospital. He lost most of his upper teeth. His jaw and part of his face was mutilated I couldn’t hold my tears to see a boy that left me less than an hour earlier in this state. His situation was bad I thank God for his life. He made it out of the theater but will need a set of artificial upper teeth,"

" He is lying down in excruciating pain in hospital now. He did nothing wrong. He was on the walkway. He absolutely didn’t deserve this yet these untamed task force boys disfigured him in his prime,"
"Our Governor needs to hear this, and do something about these boys.please keep posting until the people in authority rise to do the right thing. He is my son ooo, oh God my heart is broken I haven't sleep since yesterday, River state government please come to our aid."

Married teacher who allegedly had s3x with 15-year-old student nabbed through google search

A 35-year-old teacher identified as Kandice Barber is currently facing trial for allegedly having sex with her 15-year-old student.

Following her arraignment in court, the teacher from Wendover, Buckinghamshire, denied the child sex offences and also told jurors the boy had pestered her after she gave him her phone number so he could discuss a problem he had with another student.

Aylesbury Crown Court however heard earlier that Ms Barber was a cover supervisor at Princes Risborough School and was bound by the same rules as teaching staff to not contact students outside school without the head's permission. It was alleged that she had sex with the teenager in a field and sent topless pictures to him on Snapchat between September and October 2018, a claim she countered by saying her account was hacked.

Barber is accused of meeting up with the pupil for sex on three occasions late in 2018 in a field, in woodland and in her 4x4.

The court  also heard the boy admitted sex with Ms Barber after initially denying it when rumours of his alleged relationship with her were put to him by the head teacher in January 2019.

On Wednesday September 9, the jury heard that on September 30 2018 she searched "what is the name of someone you are having an affair with?" and the word "alibi" before Googling seconds later "when you have a plan of where you have been."

She also searched "a lie of where you have been" before later looking up "good secluded areas," and "Holiday Inn, Wycombe."

Giving explanation for her actions, Ms Barber said;

Quote:"I was up at 5am as my mum and I were going to set up a car boot sale.
"On the way there was a name of a film that was bugging me,  so I Googled those words. We were trying to remember the film name.
"I thought the name had something to do with adultery but it turned out to be the film Fatal Attraction."

She added that she had Googled the hotel for her son’s father to stay in while he visited and "good secluded areas" was in relation to wanting to take her dog for a walk off the lead as he "absolutely loves lakes."

When Judge Francis Sheridan told Barber that though the boy called her three times, the majority of phone calls had been started by her, she responded by saying;

Quote: "A lot of the time I am calling because he has contacted me on Snapchat saying ‘call me, call me.’
"Now I think he was clearly infatuated and obsessed with me. For me it was all perfectly innocent conversation."

It was also alleged that the teacher begged the boy to delete the messages between them following rumours that had floated around in school and at a meeting with the headteacher. Reacting to this, Barber said;

Quote: "At one point I asked the boy to delete messages between us because I was concerned about losing my job.
"My eldest son had got wind of the rumours, he is the type of person who would ask to see my phone.”

She added that after she told the boy she was uncomfortable with the calls and refused further contact, he sent her a message which read;

Quote:"Watch what's going to happen, you're going to lose your job, you're going to lose your family."

Ms Barber denied three counts of causing or inciting a child aged under 16 to engage in a sexual act, one count of sexual communication with a child, one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activities while in a position of trust, and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act by a person in a position of trust.

The hearing continues.

Ex-Nigeria scrabble captain Paul Sodje allegedly killed while taking ransom money to suspected herdsmen who kidnapped his brother in Ondo

A one-time captain of the Nigeria Scrabble national team, Paul Sodje, has died after he was reportedly abducted by suspected herdsmen in Ondo State.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, Publicity Committee, Akintunde Akinsemola, who confirmed this to Punch, said the late Sodje’s body was found inside the bush in Idoani, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday, September 1.

According to Akinsemola, Sodje had gone to the bush to give ransom money to some kidnappers who had abducted his brother, Chris, four days earlier.

Quote:“Chris was going for his uncle’s funeral in Okwagbe, Delta State on August 28, when he was kidnapped at Ifon, Ondo State. The Fulani men demanded N100m but later reduced it to N1m.  His wife Flora and friends rallied round to raise the ransom.

Then his elder brother Paul and a friend took the ransom to them, yet the Fulani men murdered the two of them. Chris has not been found and the kidnappers have stopped communicating with the family.

Idoani elders led by Otunba Oladele Olapeju, who were searching for their kinsmen, who were also kidnapped, saw Paul Sodje’s body and that of the man that accompanied him to the herders rendezvous.

They took the bodies to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo'' he said

The late Sodje, who would have been 55 on Wednesday September 9, captained Nigeria to the African Scrabble Championship in Zambia, 2012.

His colleagues in the scrabble federation have taken to social media to mourn his death.

Ben Akabueze Replies Daddy Freeze: "You Are Wrong"
User Avatar Forum: News

Quote:DADDY FREEZE IS WRONG" - BEN AKABUEZE

It is Biblical for A wife to submit to her husband

Director-General of the Budget Office and a Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has tackled On Air Personality, Daddy Freeze on his comments concerning the role of a wife in marriage.

Freeze had argued that a wife needs not be submissive to her husband, Akabueze disagrees, stating that Freeze is very wrong and is turning the scripture on its head.

Akabueze made his feelings known in a facebook post...

Daddy Freeze has a penchant for using his eloquence and media reach to peddle wrong interpretations of scriptures, as he has done in this case. My fear is that many are thereby being led astray, and that is why occasionally I intervene to point out his error.

Apostle Paul likened the relationship between a wife and her husband to that between the church and Christ. Freeze’s argument about mutual submission would therefore imply that the church and Christ are also to submit to one another! This cannot be. Only the church is to submit to Christ, and not vice-versa.

Christ loved the church (ie, the people), and gave His life for it, even before it submitted to Him, and continues to love it regardless. Therefore, a husband is not to make submission a pre-condition for loving his wife. Neither should the wife make her husband loving her a precondition to submit to him (as Freeze preaches). Husband and wife will each be judged separately when they die, and none can excuse his/her own disobedience to God’s word by the other person’s failures.

A woman who truly desires the best out of her marriage should embrace the scriptural injunction to submit to her husband. This is what Apostle Peter wrote one the same subject – 1 Peter 3:1-2 AMPC

[1] In like manner, you married women, be submissive to your own husbands [subordinate yourselves as being secondary to and dependent on them, and adapt yourselves to them], so that even if any do not obey the Word [of God], they may be won over not by discussion but by the [godly] lives of their wives,

[2] When they observe the pure and modest way in which you conduct yourselves, together with your reverence [for your husband; you are to feel for him all that reverence includes: to respect, defer to, revere him-to honor, esteem, appreciate, prize, and, in the human sense, to adore him, that is, to admire, praise, be devoted to, deeply love, and enjoy your husband].

Submission is not a dirty word. It does not make the woman inferior to the man in any way, after-all they were both created in God’s image – Genesis 1:27 AMPC [27] So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.

However, for good order sake, God has ordained that the husband be the head of the household. Remember the saying that there cannot be two captains in one ship?

If Freeze were to study Ephesians 5 in some other versions of the Bible than the one he read from, he would find that verse 18 to 21 is one continuous sentence, in which Paul was addressing the entire church. The injunctions for husband and wife then begin from verse 22 and end at verse 33.

I strongly recommend the following passage of scriptures to Daddy Freeze:
2 Timothy 2:15-19 AMPC [15] Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth. [16] But avoid all empty (vain, useless, idle) talk, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness. [17] And their teaching [will devour; it] will eat its way like cancer or spread like gangrene. So it is with Hymenaeus and Philetus, [18] Who have missed the mark and swerved from the truth by arguing that the resurrection has already taken place. They are undermining the faith of some. [19] But the firm foundation of (laid by) God stands, sure and unshaken, bearing this seal (inscription): The Lord knows those who are His, and, Let everyone who names [himself by] the name of the Lord give up all iniquity and stand aloof from it.

Don’t come to Ekiti – Fayose warns Gov Makinde

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has warned the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, to steer clear of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti and other South West States.
Fayose made this known on Wednesday during a meeting of the National delegates of the PDP in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The meeting, which had in attendance, chairmen of the party in Ekiti, Osun, Lagos and Ogun, was held at the Ogun PDP secretariat, which was recently taken over by loyalists of Ladi Adebutu from those of late Buruji Kashamu.

Speaking at the South West zonal meeting, Fayose maintained that Makinde had no right to dabble into the local politics in each State of the South West.

The Ekiti ex-Governor acknowledged that Makinde is presently the only PDP governor in the South West, saying, however, that he should give every State the freedom to be governed by its local leaders.

Fayose said he will be ready to fight anyone who plans to take over the structure of the Ekiti PDP from him.

He revealed that there has been a cold war of who become(s) the executive members of the zone.
He alleged that Makinde demanded that the zonal executive should be dissolved for a caretaker committee, adding that since the caretaker committee came on board, Makinde “has not allowed them to function because he produced the chairman.”

While stressing that he would continue to respect the Oyo State Governor as a brother whom he loves, Fayose stated that being a sitting governor does not give Makinde the right to go to another man’s State.

He said, “Nobody should come to my State; if you come to my State, I will face you squarely.”
The meeting, DAILY POST reports, was attended by Engr Deji Doherty, Sikirullahi Ogundele, Sunday Olatunde Akanfe and Bisi Kolawole – the PDP Chairmen for Lagos, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti states respectively.

In a communique signed after the meeting, the PDP in the South West resolved that no State chapter of the party should be ruled by another.

The PDP Chairmen said the existing zoning formula for the zonal executives of the party should not be tampered with.

They concluded that, “the Eddy Olafeso-led zonal executive only spent two years from November 2017 till date and should be allowed to complete the very credible job they’ve commenced in the South West.”
They emphasised that “the team must be allowed to complete its tenure.”

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a 33% increase for all state pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme (Pay as You Go) with effect from January 1, 2020.

He has also approved the payment of a balance of 25% rent allowance for officers on Grade Level 07 and above, whose retirement took place between May 2000 and August 2004.

The disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs Ajibola Ponnle, during a recent meeting with the members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners.

She affirmed that both the increase and payment of the arrears would take effect from September 2020, in a bid to meet up with the harmonization exercise for the pensioners. She noted that since Sanwo-Olu’s assumption of office, he has paid a total sum of N1.893 billion to pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme, while also adding that all monthly pensions are paid as at when due without exception.

The commissioner maintained that all retirement bond certificates for June 2020 had been released to the Pension Fund Administrators for onward transmission to beneficiaries. She reiterated that Lagos State Government is determined to ensure that pensioners’ rights are paid promptly, while beneficiaries will continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy in the state.

Ponnle emphasized that the present administration is passionate about retirees’ welfare and will continue to acknowledge their service to the state, hence the reason for the approval which is also geared towards cushioning the effects of the pandemic.

Pipeline Repairs Cost NNPC N41.98 Billion In Six Months
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 09-10-2020, 08:14 AM - No Replies

Quote:The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has said it spent a total of N41.98bn on pipeline repairs and management cost in the first half of this year.

The NNPC disclosed this in its latest monthly oil report, saying, “Products theft and vandalism have continued to destroy value and put NNPC at disadvantaged competitive position.”

A total of 1,067 vandalised points were recorded between June 2019 and June 2020, according to the corporation.

It said a total of 33 pipeline points were vandalised in June 2020, representing about 11 per cent decrease from the 37 points recorded in May.

The NNPC said, “Mosimi-Ibadan accounted for 33 per cent while ATC-Mosimi and Warri-River Niger recorded 27 per cent of the breaks each; other locations make up for the remaining 13 per cent.

“NNPC in collaboration with the local communities and other stakeholders continuously strive to reduce and eventually eliminate this menace.”

In August, the NNPC called on investors to bid for the repairs of pipelines and depots across the country, adding that the rehabilitation of the facilities would be done through a build, operate and transfer model.

Poor maintenance and vandalism have left many of the depots and pipelines idle for years, with the number of fuel tankers on the roads increasing and wreaking havoc.

The corporation spent N5.48bn on pipeline repairs and management cost in January; N6.74bn in February; N7.69bn in March; N7.84bn in April; N7.99bn in May and N6.24bn in June.

The corporation noted that over the years, the pipeline network had suffered incessant unauthorised interference, adding that this was one of the strongest drivers for the introduction of horizontal directional drilling to the scope of the project.

It said the new pipelines would have intrusion detection and cathode protection systems to complement the deep burial.

“In addition, these facilities have aged over the years giving rise to frequent failures and consequent operational downtimes, high maintenance cost and revenue losses,” the NNPC added.

Between 1976 and 1989, the government, through the NNPC, built three refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna, in addition to an existing one in Port Harcourt, which was built by Shell and BP in 1965 (later bought over by the NNPC).

The NNPC installed a network of pipelines across the country, totalling over 5,000 kilometres in length, to facilitate crude supply to the refineries and products evacuation from them.

The network consists of 4,315 km of multi-product pipelines and 701km of crude oil pipelines, inter-connecting 22 fuel depots, the four refineries, and the jetties at Atlas Cove and Warri.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER.

ADDRESS THEM BY NAME

When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him (Mark 9:25).

If you ever wanted to know how to cast out devils, Jesus demonstrated it clearly in the verse above. He addressed the spirit responsible for the condition. He said, “...Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.” He didn’t just say, “I rebuke you”; He said something that was the rebuke. He addressed the particular devil by name: dumb and deaf spirit. And of course, the devil went out.

It’s not enough to say, “Satan, I bind you.” Satan is a generic name for the devil. What’s the particular devil or demon you’re dealing with at that particular time? You can know by the type of affliction, problem, or else, by the Holy Spirit revealing it to you.

In carrying out their work, demons manifest the character of their being, and this can help you identify them and address them appropriately. Through the manifested character of a devil, you can know what his name is, because a name is a description of character. Demons are named according to their character, as seen in the Scriptures.

For example, if you identify an unclean spirit, then you don’t need to be wondering what the name of that demon spirit is. You address him by that name and say, “You unclean spirit, I command you to come out in the Name of Jesus!” No devil can resist when you order them out in the Name of Jesus.

The Bible says, “…at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth” (Philippians 2:10). Mark 6:7 says He gave us power over unclean spirits to cast them out. In Matthew 10:8, He was emphatic when He said, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils....” Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I’m grateful for the authority given me to use the all-powerful Name of Jesus to cast out devils. Satan has no place in my life, or in my home or in the lives of my loved ones. I walk in continuous victory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#TALKINGSESSION

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Heaven Father, I thank You for the power of the Holy Spirit that resides and is fully operational in me.

When I show up, burdens are lifted, and yokes destroyed. I am a God-carrying vessel and a dispenser of eternal verities.

I am a big-time financier of the Gospel, and doors of opportunity are open unto me right now in different parts of the earth.

I thank You for the privilege to use and live in the Name of Jesus. I’m always assured of answers, knowing that the Holy Spirit immediately goes to work on my behalf!

Thank you for this wonderful blessing. Hallelujah! I am not helpless but empowered to effect changes in the circumstances of life by faith and in the Name of Jesus.

My faith in God and in the power of His Word prevails today, and always, and I rejoice, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Nothing is impossible unto me, and no level of success, victory, and progress are unattainable for me because I live by faith in the Word. Hallelujah!

I am alive unto God; excellence, glory, virtue, and success are the hallmarks of my life because the grace of God is superabundant upon me.

I grow in grace and in the knowledge of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The beauty of God in my spirit is showing forth on the outside, evidently, manifest for all to see! Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

God bless you

Joseph Ikpea Resigns As Edo Commissioner For Minerals, Oil And Gas
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Barely 10 d‎ays to the Edo State governorship election, the state Commissioner for Minerals, Oil and Gas, Mr Joseph Ikpea‎, yesterday, resigned his appointment from the cabinet of Governor Godwin Obaseki.‎

In his letter of resignation, dated September 9 and addressed to the governor, Ikpea cited reason of trust, respect and interest for his resignation.

Besides, he said he cannot abandon the All Progressives Congress (APC) he has helped to nurture in his council area and the state in general.

“Politics is all about interest, trust and respect for one another, but I have never seen any of this till date, and am also not sure of it even if I am there till tomorrow.

“Moreover, the party that is known today as APC was brought to Esan South East by me and over 90 percent of my supporters are APC members till date.

“So, it is difficult for me to leave the house that I built. Considering also that this administration didn’t recognise my leadership role”, he said.
Ikpea, however, said he would always be available to provide support to the government whenever called upon to do so.

Recall that two Commissioners had earlier resigned their appointments from the Obaseki’s government to support the candidate of the APC, Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Nigeria overtakes India as world capital for under-five deaths
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 09-09-2020, 09:57 PM - Replies (1)

Quote:Nigeria has taken over from India as the world capital for under-five deaths, according to the 2020 mortality estimates released by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The development comes two years earlier than the World Bank projected.

The global bank had said in 2018 that Nigeria will take over India as the world capital for deaths of children under the age of five by 2021.

According to World Bank figures, India recorded an estimated 989,000 under-five deaths in 2017, while Nigeria recorded 714,000 deaths in the same year.

UNICEF, in the report titled Levels and Trends in Child Mortality, said Nigeria recorded an estimated average of 858,000 under-five deaths in 2019 as against India which ranked second with 824,000 deaths out of 5.2 million under-five deaths globally.

The report, which covered a period of three decades–1990 to 2019–added that 49 percent of all under-five deaths in 2019 occurred in just five countries: Nigeria, India, Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ethiopia.

“Nigeria and India alone account for almost a third,” it said.

The report said under-five mortality rates have declined by almost 60 percent since 1990. However, the UN expressed concerns that “the potential of a mortality crisis in 2020 threatens years of remarkable improvement in child and adolescent survival”.

“While the extent and severity of the mortality impact of COVID-19 on children and youth is still unknown, the potential of a mortality crisis in 2020 threatens years of remarkable improvement in child and adolescent survival from 1990 to 2019, the period covered in this report,” it read.

“The global under-five mortality rate declined by almost 60 per cent from 93 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1990 to 38 deaths in 2019. Meanwhile, mortality among adolescents aged 10–19 fell from 13 deaths per 1,000 adolescents aged 10 in 1990 to 8 deaths in 2019—a 39 per cent decrease.

“Even with that progress, some 5.2 million children died before reaching their fifth birthday in 2019 alone. Tragically, many of those children died of preventable or treatable conditions.”

NIGERIA’S NEONATAL DEATHS UP BY 61,000 SINCE 1990
According to the data in the report, Nigeria recorded 209,000 neonatal deaths in 1990– a 61,000 increase compared to 270,000 deaths in 2019.

The figures for number of deaths among children aged five to fourteen also increased from 104,000 in 1990 to 119,000 in 2019.

Nigeria’s population has doubled since 1990, which means the percentage of neonatal deaths in the country has reduced, but the absolute numbers are higher.

53% OF UNDER-FIVE CHILD DEATHS IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA
The report further said that while child deaths are uneven across regions, the situation is worse in sub-Saharan Africa and Central and Southern Asia.

“In 2019, sub-Saharan Africa carried more than half of that burden with 2.8 million under- five deaths (53 per cent), followed by Central and Southern Asia with 1.5 million (28 per cent),” it read.

“The regions of Australia and New Zealand, Eastern and South-Eastern Asia, Northern Africa and Western Asia, Europe and Northern America, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand) account for the remaining 19 per cent of under-five deaths.

“Sub-Saharan Africa also bears the brunt of deaths among children and young people older than age 5, accounting for 44 per cent of deaths age 5–24.”

CHILD MORTALITY VS COVID-19
The report added that while the pandemic has limited direct impact on child mortality, countries worldwide are now experiencing disruptions in child and maternal health services due to resource constraints and a general uneasiness with using health services due to a fear of contracting COVID-19.

“While current evidence indicates the direct impact of COVID-19 on child and youth mortality is limited, indirect effects stemming from strained and under-resourced health systems; limitations on care-seeking and preventative measures like vaccination and nutrition supplements; socioeconomic strain on parents and households resulting from job loss or economic downturns; and stress to children and parents associated with abrupt societal shifts may be substantial and widespread, ” it read.

“Moreover, many of these indirect effects may not be apparent for some time after the pandemic recedes and may reverberate for an extended period following the pandemic.

Henrietta Fore, UNICEF director, said: “The global community has come too far towards eliminating preventable child deaths to allow the COVID-19 pandemic to stop us in our tracks.

THE WAY TO GO
UNICEF said: “If the child survival targets are to be met on time, resources and policy must be geared toward not only sustaining current rates of decline but also accelerating progress, which would save millions of lives. If the trends from 2010 to 2019 continue, 53 countries will not meet the SDG target on under-five mortality on time—if all countries were to meet that target, 11 million under-five deaths would be averted from 2020 to 2030.

“Achieving the child survival goals and heading off a reversal of progress in child survival in 2020 will require universal access to effective, high-quality and affordable care and the continued, safe provision of life-saving interventions for women, children, and young people.

“If all countries reach the SDG child survival targets by 2030, 11 million lives under age 5 will be saved—more than half of them in sub-Saharan
Africa.”

  Nigeria’s Debt Hits N31trn – DMO
User Avatar Forum: Market Place

Quote:Nigeria’s debt rises by N2.3trn, hits N31trn – DMO

The Debt Management Office on Wednesday released Nigeria’s total public debt stock as of June 30, 2020, and put the country’s entire debt at N31trn, indicating an increase of N2.38trn within a space of three months.

Nigeria’s total public debt stock includes the debt stock of the Federal Government, the 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Just as the country’s public debt stock, the DMO also released reports on Nigeria’s Actual External Debt Service Payments in Second Quarter, 2020, as well as Nigeria’s External Debt Stock as of June 30, 2020.

For the country’s public debt stock as of June 30, 2020, the DMO said, “The data shows that in naira terms, the total public debt stock which comprises the debt stock of the Federal Government, the 36 state governments and the FCT stood at N31.009trn or $85.897bn.

“The corresponding figures for March 31, 2020, were N28.628trn or $79.303bn.”

The debt office explained that the increase in the debt stock by N2.381trn or $6.593bn was accounted for by the $3.36bn budget support loan from the International Monetary Fund, new domestic borrowing to finance the revised 2020 Appropriation Act.

It said this includes the issuance of the N162.557bn Sukuk, and promissory notes issued to settle claims of exporters.

The debt office added, “The DMO expects the public debt stock to grow as the balance of the new domestic borrowing is raised and expected disbursements are made by the World Bank, African Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank which were arranged to finance the 2020 Budget.

I am getting married next year and I was looking for my perfect dream dress. Everywhere I went seemed to have very similar things. The same brands, fits, styles, everything. I wanted something different so I took to looking online. I came across Castle Couture. They had so many different brands and styles to choose from and I am so happy I found it. Now I know I really will be wearing something special on my big day. Has anyone else checked out or used Castle Couture? Or have any photos of them in their dress?

Four Nigerians Arrested In Philippines For Hacking Bank’s System (Video)

A video has emerged of the Philippines National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday parading 4 Nigerian nationals in Muntinlupa City for alleged involvement in an international syndicate that hacks and siphons funds from banks, ABS-CBN Philippines reports.

Quote:In a statement on Tuesday by the National Bureau of Investigation's Cybercrime Division chief, Vic Lorenzo, it was alleged that the four Nigerians violated the Access Device Law, Anti-Cybercrime law, and falsification of public documents.

The statement reads, “The fraudsters’ – Nigerians – transactions were traced when they hacked a system of one Philippines bank, where at least P100 million were transferred and funneled into a different account. The international syndicate is complicated to the point that they study the system’s flaws. Once they see a weakness, they will take advantage of that.

“One of the suspects’ Filipina girlfriend admitted to having used her account to deposit and withdraw money amounting to at least P2 million, which was supposedly for tuition. Blank ATM cards and bank receipts were confiscated from the suspects.”

However, the Nigerians denied the allegations, saying they were in Philippines to study and they “know nothing about the hacking incident”.

The incident took place outside the 27-year-old woman’s workplace at the Navy Federal Credit Union, near the Mall at Millenia in Orlando, on Tuesday 8th September 2020.

Barbara was shot by Sylvester, near the business’ front doors on the 4600 block of Gardens Park Boulevard just before 9 a.m., an Orlando Police Department spokesperson said.

Tommey was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center shortly after she was rushed there for medical attention.

Ofori, 35, was taken into custody at his apartment Tuesday evening, the OPD spokesperson said. He is being held at the Orange County Jail without bond on a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm.

During a press conference Tuesday morning, Chief Orlando Rolón said the shooting was captured on CCTV.

“You can tell that she was surprised by what was happening,” he said.

The Navy Federal Credit Union released a statement on the shooting.

The statement reads: "This morning, a team member was fatally injured during an act of violence outside our Millenia branch, by a man she knew, according to the police.

"Our thoughts are with our team member’s family. Our number one priority is keeping both our members and team members safe. We will ensure all team members at the branch are provided with the support they need during this time. Any further information can be provided by the Orlando Police Department."

Pastor Sylvester has reportedly been abusing his wife for a long time. Due to the abuse, Barbara was persuaded by her family to leave him. But Sylvester tracked her to her workplace yesterday and shot her 7 times.

A woman named Lisa, who witnessed the shooting, said: "I’m shaken up right now, I’m still shaken up."

She said she saw Barbara come outside to move her car before she was shot.

“The next thing I knew, he raised his hand with the gun in it, and he shot her,” she said.

“The guy was walking behind her. I don’t know if she knew he was there or not. I started running and as I’m running, I hear three or four more shots.”

Lisa spoke highly of the deceased woman.

She said: “She was always very nice when I came into the bank. She’s very nice, very nice."

Buhari: Trump Accused Me Of Killing Christians

Quote:What I Told United States President, Trump, When He Accused Me Of Killing Christians —Buhari

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKSEP 08, 2020

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he was pained when United States President, Donald Trump, called him into his office at the White House and asked him, “Why are you killing Christians?”

Buhari said he took his time to explain to his US counterpart that the killings of Christians in Nigeria had nothing to do with ethnicity or religion.

The President disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at the First Ministerial Performance Review Retreat of his second term.

Buhari said, “I believe I was about the only African among the less developed countries the President of United States invited and when I was in his office only myself and himself, only God is my witness, he looked at me in the face, he said why are you killing Christians. I wonder, if you were the person how you would react. I hope what I was feeling inside did not betray my emotion, so I told him that the problem between the cattle rearers and stagnant farmers I know is older than me not to talk of him. I think I am a couple of years older than him.

“So, I tried and explained to him, this has got nothing to do with ethnicity or religion. It is a cultural thing which was failing the nation.

“The next problem I want to tell you is how we found ourselves when I say us, I mean members of the APC. When we promised three things, security, economy and fighting corruption, we repeated the same thing last year. But I want the Nigerian elite to please encourage and judge us fairly when we came. Between 1999 and 2014, I will like you to please check the average production was 2.1m barrels per day, the average cost was $100 per barrel.

“When we came, it collapsed to $37 to $38 per barrel and the militants were unleashed on the administration, the production went down. I want you to please reflect what was the condition of the infrastructure then in spite the earnings, the roads, there was no power and up to now there is no power, where did the money go.

“So, please encourage your friends, the elites, to reflect on what this administration has done, what APC has done and what we have achieved. Well I am doing my best, God has given me two chances.”

Niger now exports fuel to Nigeria

Niger Republic, a country that started commercial oil production in 2011, now exports petroleum products to Nigeria.

For decades, Nigeria’s three major refineries have been grounded to near-zero capacity utilisation with all of its refined fuel imported from other countries. According to Guardian, data obtained from the African Refiners & Distributors Association (ARA) revealed that strong refinery performance in neighbouring Niger Republic meets local fuel demand, and the excess production is exported to Nigeria, Mali and Burkina Faso.

As Nigeria struggles to get its refineries working and to attract foreign investment to the downstream sector of the oil industry, Niger has built a single 20,000-barrel per day refinery with configuration for local market. The facility is currently turning out liquefied petroleum gas, 7 per cent; gasoline, 32 per cent; and diesel, 61 per cent, to enable it optimise stranded crude supply.

Niger built its refineries in less than three years, pushing utilisation from zero to about 90 per cent in 2019.

Teenager is bitten on the pen!s by a python while sitting on the toilet

A Thai teenager was rushed to the hospital after a python bit his penis as he sat on the toilet.

Siraphop Masukarat, 18, went to the toilet on Tuesday evening, September 8, when he felt a sudden sharp pain in his male member.

He looked down and saw the python with its jaws clamped around the tip of his penis. It quickly let go as blood spurted around the toilet bowl.

Siraphop ran out of the toilet with his pants around his ankles in Nonthaburi, central Thailand, around 13 miles north of Bangkok.

His mother called paramedics who rushed the teen to the nearby Bang Yai Hospital to have his wounded penis treated.

Doctors gave Siraphop three stitches in the glands at the tip of the penis and treated the bite wound with antibiotic wash, to kill any bacteria from the python's fangs.

Naratting his ordeal, Siraphop said:"I was using the toilet but a few moments after I sat down, I suddenly felt pain in my penis. I looked down and saw there was a snake hanging in the toilet. Then there was blood everywhere.

"It was only a small snake but its bite was so strong. I hope that my penis can recover."

Animal handlers arrived at the two-storey home and found the snake still coiled up in the toilet bowl.

They used snake catching equipment to snare the python and put it into a sack before releasing it back into woodland.

Siraphop's terrified mother, Sutapath, said she was still in shock about the incident as she wondered how the snake got into the house.

She said: "I don't know how the snake got into my house. It could have been through the drain connected to the toilet.

"I know the snake really hurt my son but I'm relieved it was only a non-venomous python. If it was a cobra, he would be dead.

"He will be scared every time he goes to toilet. But he's recovering well at the hospital and I'm thankful to the rescue volunteers for catching the snake."
