A 57-year-old prophet, Ebenezer Ogunmefun, has been arrested and arraigned before an Ogun State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abeokuta for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl whose mother took to his church for spiritual cleansing.

While being arraigned on a one-count charge of sexual abuse, the police prosecutor, Inspector Moshood Hammed, told the court that the clergyman who resides at No. 1 Prof. Ajibo Toluca Pioneer Street, Olomore area, Abeokuta, told the victim’s mother that she was possessed by evil spirits and needed to be cleansed thoroughly. The clergyman allegedly made the victim swear by the bible never to tell anyone he raped her.

The police prosecutor said the offense contravened Section 33 of the Child Rights Law of Ogun State, 2006.

The clergyman pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Solomon Banwo, granted the clergyman bail in the sum N750,000 with two sureties in like sum. The Magistrate ordered that one of the sureties must be the defendant’s spouse and the other must be a community leader.

40-ft container of Tramadol intercepted in Lagos

A  40-ft container loaded with Tramadol and other banned medicines has been intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Brawal Terminal in Lagos.

NDLEA Chairman, Col. Muhammad Abdallah (Retd) confirmed the interception and further revealed that the drug which is one of the banned medicines in the country was taken to a bonded terminal in Apapa.

A joint examination revealed 255 cartons of different types of Tramadol and other banned medicines.

A statement released by NDLEA spokesperson Jonah Achema, read;

Quote: “Police detectives in Apapa Area Command of Lagos State intercepted a 40-foot container laden with drugs suspected to be Tramadol and codeine on August 6.

“The container was intercepted on water and taken to a bonded terminal in Apapa.
“NDLEA’s investigation further revealed another 40-foot container. This joint examination revealed 255 cartons of different types of Tramadol and other banned medicines.

“The NDLEA investigation further revealed that  the Tramadol is manufactured in Pakistan which is a new discovery to the agency because previous Tramadol was manufactured in India.

“This is of global interest. Drug trafficking is one of the vices fueling insecurity across the country.

“Abdallah observes that this investigation is a major breakthrough for the agency revealing the new route for movement of Tramadol into Nigeria which is from Pakistan via Europe (Hamburg) to Nigeria."

A lady identified as Mary Idris has been paraded by the Ekiti state police command for allegedly faking her kidnap on August 9, 2020, to extort money from her parents.

Mary was arrested alongside her accomplice Victor Olawuse in Akure, the Ondo State capital, shortly after her younger sister received a message conveying news of her alleged kidnap and demand for a ransom to be paid.

Ekiti state Commissioner of Police, Tunde Mobayo who was represented by the state Police Public Relations Officer Sunday Abutu during the parade, said;

Quote:" Mary’s mother came to our station and reported that her daughter, Mary Idris, left home on August 9, at about 4pm and never returned.
“She said all efforts to reach her daughter via phone calls proved abortive. After a while, the younger sister of the suspect received a message through her phone that Mary had been kidnapped and demanded ransom to be paid.
“The command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives tracked the phone number that sent the message to Akure, Ondo State, where Mary was arrested alongside her accomplice, Victor Olawuse."

Mary confessed to the crime and also revealed that she arranged the kidnap because her parents were not taking care of her.

She said;

Quote: “I arranged the kidnap to get money from my parents because they are not taking proper care of me.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY 20TH AUGUST.

IT’S A MATTER OF CHOICE

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17).

In life, there’ll be circumstances or even people that’ll try to frustrate your aspirations for a happy and joyful life. Nevertheless, everything still boils down to your choice. Yes, it’s a matter of choice!

If a man chooses to allow the disappointments of others or the damning effects of life’s unfavourable conditions stop him, then he’d most likely live a frustrated life, unable to fulfil God’s purpose for him.

Such a person would often vent his anger and frustration on others. He’d want to see everyone else unhappy because he finds no reason why they should be happy. This is the case with many people today.

However, based on the knowledge of God’s Word concerning you, your choice can, and should be different. Choose to live your life in the light of His truth and make up your mind that your joy and fulfilment in life would be independent of circumstances. Choose to take pleasure in every day and enjoy the moments of your life. It’s His will for you!

In Deuteronomy 30:19 TLB, the Lord said to the children of Israel, “…I have set before you life or death, blessing or curse. Oh, that you would choose life; that you and your children might live!” This is as touching as it is instructive.

He gave you the power to choose the life of blessings because that’s His desire for you—to live in blessings evermore.

Life to the full, divine health, supernatural insight and great amplitude of mind, prosperity and wealth, a life of glory and ever-increasing joy; these and more are your divine provisions in Christ. But you must make the choice to apprehend and appropriate these realities in your personal life. Choose to walk in God’s Word and glorify God in your life today.

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for giving me the life of blessings, full of joy and glory. I walk in divine health, supernatural insight and great amplitude of mind, prosperity and wealth. Thank you for your abundant grace and wisdom to rule my world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

I affirm that I am a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, holy and a peculiar treasure unto God.

I was born to reign and rule in life with the dominion of the Spirit. Through my words, I effect changes in the realm of the spirit, and cause circumstances and situations to align with God’s plan and purpose today.

I am a tree of righteousness, the planting of the Lord. I am in Christ, and I see all trials and challenges that come my way as bread.

No force has the ability to defeat me or throw me off balance because greater is He that lives in me than he that is in the world.

I am more than a conqueror, and I live with confidence, knowing that all of heaven and power of divinity are working for me, for my good.

No matter how strong the contrary winds blow, my life is unshakable, because I am firmly rooted in Christ. I’ll never be discouraged or disadvantaged because the Holy Spirit has made His abode in me.

The glory of God is risen upon me, and I manifest that glory everywhere. The power, beauty, and excellence of God reside in my spirit; and through me, His righteousness is established, and His grace and love are revealed to men.

Today, and always, I display the wonderful deeds and perfections of Him who has called me out of darkness into glory and virtue! I know who I am; I am the seed of Abraham!

The world belongs to me. I reign and rule over circumstances by the power of the greater One who lives in me!

He lives in my spirit, in my soul, and in my body! No failure for me, and no defeat on my path; I am moving from glory to glory, and from victory to victory. Glory to God. Hallelujah!

God bless you

#Islamization_Agenda: How The Plot To Control The Finance Of The Church Came About

#Islamization_Agenda: How The Plot To Control The Finance Of The Church Came About And Their Top Targets

The Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020 bill which President Buhari signed into law on August 7th, 2020 is geared toward enhancing the ease of doing business in the country. It was sponsored by an APC House of Representatives member  HON. YUSUF YAKUB, Hong/Gombi Federal Constituency.
Ab initio, it has nothing to do with the control of the finance of the church but because of the agenda against the church in Nigeria, the anti-Christian clause was introduced.

The Fulani led government of Nigeria has been exploring ways whereby they can bring the church under their control. A few years ago, they proposed a statutory age limit for General Overseers of churches and after public outcry from the Christian community it was discarded and they went back to the drawing board to strategize and that was how the idea of monitoring the finance of the church came up and using the Corporate Affair Commission to carry out their inimical plot was a perfect match.

The first thing they did was to amend the Companies and Allied Matters Act to accommodate the newly introduced section that empowers the CAC Registrar General the right to remove the trustees of the church, close the account of the church without recourse to the court.
The Fulani led government wanted to engage the services of former  Registrar General Mr. Bello Mahmud but because of his age and also his tenure had expired, they had to pause.

Lady Azuka Azinge from Anambra State took over the helms of affairs of the Commission as Acting Registrar-General on 9th October 2017. The Fulani led government was not comfortable with the person of Lady Azuka Azinge because she is a Christian and also her uncompromising stand was a concern for them so they looked for a way to oust her. President Buhari refused to confirm her as a substantive Registrar General because of his ulterior motive. On December 23, 2019, The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) ordered the suspension of the Acting Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Azinge Azuka. According to a statement made available, Ms. Azinge was placed on suspension pending the conclusion of her trial on charges bordering on the breach of the code of conduct for public officers. This was a setup aimed at bringing in a Northerner who would do the job for them. Alhaji Garba Abubakar from Bauchi took over and President Buhari hurriedly confirmed him on January 7th, 2020

It is on record that Alhaji Garba Abubakar worked with the committee that amended The Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA)

The main reason why the Fulani led government wants to attack the church is because of the prosperity of the church. They are envious and afraid of the colossal wealth some churches have amassed. That is why they want to have control of the finance of the church and it's operation so that in the case of war which is already looming, the church will be financially handicapped. Bear it in mind, if they succeed, the Registrar General may wake up one day and remove Rev Chris Oyakhilome from the Board of Trustees of Christ Embassy and replace him with a Northern Muslim.

The Fulani led government is capitalizing on the disunity in the body of Christ to carry out their evil scheme against the church. During the Covid-19 lockdown, the disunity in the body of Christ was brought to the fore.

Before I go further, the Muslim Rights Concern has been accused of collecting $200,000 from Boko Haram affiliate, Islamic State for West Africa Province, to destabilize the country. A former Intelligence Chief in Mali, San Louis Keita, made the allegation in Abidjan, the Cote d’Ivoire capital, at a news conference. The money is for the recruitment of  young Fulani men living in the South West of Nigeria to destabilize that part of the country. The Fulani led government of Nigeria overlooked the accusation because it's part of their plan. Dr. Obadiah Mailafia has been invited to DSS office twice over the startling revelation he made where he revealed that a governor in Nigeria is the commander-general of Boko Haram, they are looking for a way to jail the man for saying the truth.

Three days ago, the Supreme Council of Sharia in Nigeria told President Buhari that the execution of a Christian leader, Retired Major General Zamani Lekwot, and those of others found complicit  in the 1992 bloody riot in Zango-Kataf, would bring lasting peace to the killings in Southern Kaduna. An incident that happened 28 years ago where a tribunal set up by the Babangida government sentenced Lekwot and 16 others to death for alleged complicity in the killings, sentences eventually reduced to a short sentence and he later got a state pardon. It is evil to call for his execution when Gov El-Rufai is yet to show Nigerians those he paid money to stop killing.

Bishop David Oyedepo is the number one target of the Fulani led government who are bent on carrying out their Islamization agenda. The reason why they are after Papa Oyedepo is because of his constant criticism of this government and also his wealth frightens them. They know if they are able to capture Africa's wealthiest preacher, others will surrender easily, but God will not allow it. Papa Oyedepo is an institution. In 2018, he reacted to the media report that he is worth $150 million, he said 'I'm worth more than that' he further said that "I'm worth the riches of his Glory" the riches of God's Glory can't be measured. Papa Oyedepo can feed Nigeria for years and he won't feel it.

Pastor E.A Adeboye is the next on their list. Not him as a person but RCCG, the world's largest church with 40,000 parishes in Nigeria. RCCG parishes in Nigeria are more than all the Mosques in Nigeria. It's the church with the highest number of cheerful billionaires. During the construction of one of the tents at the campground, not the new one, someone singlehandedly roofed the tent with N25billion. RCCG equally plays a pivotal role in the elections of Nigeria thanks to the millions of members spread across Nigeria.

The third on the list is Rev Chris Oyakhilome who was recently gifted with late Archbishop Benson Idahosa's personal Bible and after that, the fiery preacher has become a thorn in the flesh of the enemies of the gospel in Nigeria. God has blessed Rev Chris so mightily that you can't quantify his wealth. During the lockdown, he was a voice for the church and he spoke against the government orders which were not right with the church. He is a threat to the Fulani led government and I believe he must have received the circular which was also sent to Papa Oyedepo

The fourth Kingdom giant that continuously gives the Fulani led government sleepless nights is Apostle Johnson Suleman. Nobody can silence the fiery preacher's voice. His life and what he stands for is reminiscent of the personality of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa. Apostle Suleman is someone you can't gag. He is a staunch defender of the body of Christ in Nigeria. Apart from being a threat to the Fulani led government, his wealth also intimidates them. He condemned the incessant killing of Christians in Southern Kaduna and just yesterday he told Gov El-Rufai to keep quiet and fix the mess in his state instead of looking for who to blame over the killings in the state which has turned Kaduna into a cesspool of blood. There has been plots by the government to bring Apostle Suleman down but they couldn't.

Another person that the Northerners are envious of is Dr. Paul Enenche of Dunamis. How he became prosperous is still a mystery to them. The multi-billion naira Glory Dome and his constant criticism of the ills in the country is what placed him in their book. Dr. Enenche is blessed beyond measure. The Fulani led government would want to make sure they decimate his influence in the North but God will not allow it.

Another Kingdom giant under the watch of the Fulani led government is Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries whose church building upon completion would cost over N50 billion. Though he is not a regular critic of the government like others but his wealth is frightening and remember, the main reason why the Fulani led government is after the church is because of the wealth, they want to financially incapacitate the church.

All the generals that I mentioned were all influenced by late Archbishop Benson Idahosa of blessed memory. If he were to be alive we know what he could do. With humility and sincerity of heart, I kindly ask our fathers in the faith to act now before they turn Nigeria to Turkey. The evil schemes of the Fulani led government are similar to what the Turkish Islamic fundamentals did that completely transformed Turkey into a 97% Islamic country. Recently, Hagia Sophia, a 1,500-year-old Orthodox Christian cathedral - was converted into a Mosque

Shock as 'dead' woman comes back to life and climbs off mortuary slab

An elderly woman who was pronounced dead came back to life after a night in a hospital morgue in Russia.

Zinaida Kononova, 81, was pronounced dead after surgery in Russia to remove an intestinal obstruction.

Her family was informed and began planning her funeral. She was taken to the morgue in Gorshechensky central district hospital at 1:10am on 14 August.

Almost seven hours later at 8am a female morgue worker "got the shock of her life" when she found the grandmother sprawled on the floor.

The morgue

The woman had fallen as she attempted to climb off the morgue table and escape.

An ambulance driver overheard the commotion as he entered the building, and says the "frightened" morgue worker was saying "Grandma, lie down, granny, be quiet."

The paramedic thought the morgue employee had gone "crazy" and was talking to the dead. But then he saw how the pensioner grabbed the woman's hand pleading for help.

Zinaida was covered in blankets and rushed to intensive care.

The hospital called her niece Tatiana and a senior doctor told her: "We have an unusual situation. She is alive!"

She rushed to the hospital as a team of medics from regional capital Kursk were sent to treat Zinaida. Tatiana was delighted her aunt was alive, but asked the doctors: "How could this happen?"

She was told Zinaida had been registered as clinically dead for 15 minutes — and was "literally pulled back from the other world".

"She initially did not recognise me or recall that she had a surgery," Tatiana said. "But she talked about her old knee problem."

Later she came to her senses.

A doctor and anaesthetist later confessed to the family that they had sent Zinaida to the morgue one hour and 20 minutes after she died, instead of two hours as rules dictate.

Acting hospital head Alexander Vlasov said: "For 30 minutes the patient underwent resuscitation measures" but didn't respond.

The elderly pensioner who came back to life has been transferred to Kursk for further treatment.

Roman Kondratenko, chief doctor of Gorshechensky central district hospital, has been suspended pending an investigation. Relatives are planning to sue the hospital, according to reports.

Leaked Video Shows Late Kashamu Begging Lotto Business Rival ‘Baba Ijebu’ For Forgiveness Before He Died

Quote:Igbere TV just obtained a video of late Senator Buruji Kashamu begging Billionaire Businessman, Chief Adebutu Kessignton from his sick bed.

This is coming days after the late controversial senator died of Coronavirus while receiving treatment at the First Cardiology hospital.

According to report gathered by Igbere TV , the late Senator was found to have underlying chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart and lung diseases and high blood pressure that were fast weakening his immune system before he gave up.

In the video which had gone viral, the late Senator and controversial politician can be heard begging the father of Ladi Adebutu, an aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019 Ogun state guber election, Chief Adebutu Kessignton during a phone conversation between the duo.

Appealing to the father of the PDP Ogun guber aspirant in 2019, Late Senator Kashamu repeatedly mentioned the name of another top socialite simply identified as Segun.

Late Senator Kashamu revealed that he called Segun after he returned from Ghana and gave him a document to handover to you and also told him that he is ready to follow and submit to you (Kessignton) as a leader but Segun declined.

The late Ogun politician also revealed that when he started legal battle with Betnaija, a popular sports betting scheme, it was Segun who requested him to start the fight so that it will not spoil Chief Kessington’s pool business but he was later disappointed by Segun and the people he supported.

When Chief Kessington interrupted that Kashamu waged war against him, late Senator Buruji Kashamu said he did all that because he does not want government to lie against him.

While affirming that he (Late Senator Kashamu) can not wage war against Chief Kessington, he stated that he will not fight him on lotto-business again and he will accept any percentage given to him.

Late Senator Kashamu vowed to order his staff to bring agreements and necessary documents to Chief Kessington.

When asked to withdraw his court cases to prove his sincerity, Late Senator Kashamu promised to discuss it with one Segun and seek withdrawal of the cases.

Killings In Southern Kaduna Must Stop Now –MSSN

Quote:The Amir (President) of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, MSSN, Lagos State Area Unit, Miftahudeen Thanni has expressed concern over the continued killings in Southern Kaduna and called for an immediate end to the “acts of cruelty.”

Thanni who recently took over as the President of the society made the remarks, on Tuesday, at a media briefing by MSSN to address some national issues, held in Alausa, Ikeja,

He called on the government to check whoever is perpetrating the evil going on in Southern Kaduna and put an end to it.

“One of the primary responsibilities of government is to secure the citizens and the properties of the citizens.

“Security is key, so because of this we still implore the government to do the needful, the government is trying but they have not done their best if they can do better I think this will be a forgotten issue.

“I also want to implore citizens and indigenes of Kaduna state especially Southern Kaduna in particular to sue for peace, to embrace peace at all times, not only by speech but by all their activities.

“They should exhibit peace at all times with each other, they should be tolerant at all time”, adding that if they can do all the recommendations, “there will be enduring peace in Kaduna at all times.”

Thanni, also, called on both the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government to reach a consensus on the controversy surrounding the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

MSSN said the controversy is saddening and weakens the hope in the reformation of the education sector, “It will be unfair for the resolvable difference to affect the resumption of millions of Nigerian students at the end of the coronavirus lockdown,” he said.

Daud Olatunji, Abeokuta

Quote:Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has said he wished to live beyond 100 so as to have more opportunities to celebrate with the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Sabur Bakare, Jamolu II.

Obasanjo was part of the dignitaries present at the first anniversary of the monarch held in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Oba Bakare received the staff of office from former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on May 21, 2019, as the 9th Agura of Gbagura in Egbaland.

The monarch while commemorating his anniversary held interdenominational service with believers of all faiths and commissioned a borehole for the community.

Obasanjo, who clocked 83 this year, while speaking at the interdenominational service, said he wished to be at the 20th anniversary of the monarch.

He said, “I will be here to celebrate your 20 years anniversary with you whether I am invited or not.

“By the time I also partake in celebrating your 20th anniversary with you, if God wishes, He can call me to come and meet Him in heaven because I know by that time, I will be above 100 or more .”

The former president, however, advised the monarch to propagate unity among traditional rules in Yorubaland.

There are times that Kabiyesi don’t listen to words and there are times he does listen to words. If we are united, there is nothing we can’t do in Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole,” Obasanjo added.

In his remarks, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, noted that the past one year of the reign of Oba Bakare had been characterised by direct engagement of Egba monarchs, leaders, and other stakeholders for social cohesion and unity of purpose.

Alake expressed that the entire Egba Traditional Council was satisfied with the all-inclusive leadership of the Agura monarch and congratulated him for a successful anniversary.

The Agura appreciated his guests, adding that the unity and love among the Egbas would continue to wax stronger.

Quote:FG to move cargo by barges to Onitsha

Heads of maritime agencies in Nigeria have agreed to work on modalities for the movement of cargo by barges from Lagos ports to Onitsha, in Anambra state so as to ease traffic in Apapa.

Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, disclosed this at a recent meeting of all heads of maritime agencies in Lagos

Jamoh said the meeting constituted a committee to produce a work plan for the 24-hour port system, and agreed to carry communities around the port environments along in order to ensure safe operations within the port vicinities and beyond.

We also agreed to work with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on how movement of cargoes from the ports can be done by rail to reduce the pressure on our roads.

“Our focus is also to ensure containers are moved by barges to dry ports outside the port environments. All these would help in the efficiency and effectiveness of our ports.”

Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, also emphasised the need for an intermodal transport system in and around the port environments. Usman said Nigeria must prioritise intermodal transportation to reap the benefits of shipping and port activities.

She said the heads of maritime agencies agreed to work with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to facilitate movement of cargo from the ports by rail.

Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr. George Moghalu, said safety formed a major part of the discussion.

774,000 Jobs: PDP Lawmakers Reject 30 Slots Offer
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:774,000 Jobs: APC Mum As PDP Lawmakers Reject 30 Slots Offer

The Minority Caucus, dominated by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, yesterday, rejected a federal government’s offer of 30 slots for each member.

Under the programme tagged Extended Special Public Works (ESPW), a total of 774,000 persons are to be engaged for three months by the federal government. The programme is expected to commence in October 2020.

But the opposition lawmakers alleged that the allotment was made to favour certain interests in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the expense of the majority of other Nigerians.

The House Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, said the allotment of 30 out of the 1000 slots per local government was unfair and unacceptable by Nigerians and the lawmakers who, he added, are the true representatives of the people.

He said there must be transparency and called for the review of the criteria used for the allotment, insisting that the 30 person’s allotment to be supervised by a member in each of the local government areas cannot be a true representation of the people they are mandated to represent.

“The 30 persons allotment per local government for lawmakers is grossly unfair, inadequate and unacceptable to Nigerians. As the representatives of the people, we are closer to them and they directly interact with us, irrespective of religion, class and political affiliations.

“All Nigerians living in our constituencies are our constituents, irrespective of political leanings. We have a responsibility to protect their interests at all times. As such lawmakers ought to have been carried along on the allotment.

“Moreover, the questions are, what criteria are being used in the job allotments? Given the 30 persons out of 1000 per local government area allotted to federal lawmakers, what happens to the remaining 970? What answers do we give Nigerians? How do we ensure that the programme benefits Nigerians and is not enmeshed in allegations of sharp practices as witnessed in the COVID-19 palliative distribution?” he queried.

The caucus also charged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately order a review of the implementation process to ensure that the targeted citizens benefit from the programme as intended.

When contacted to speak on the matter, the House Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, did not pick his calls or respond to a text message sent to him by our reporter.

The Minister of State Labour and Employment Festus Keyamo when contacted said, “We are in the process of gathering the reports from the field. We will do a comprehensive press conference very soon; we don’t want to do it like this – one-one reporter."

North Korea Has 60 Nuclear Weapons & Could Launch Smallpox On Missile - US Army
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 08-19-2020, 12:05 PM - No Replies

Quote:North Korea has up to 60 nuclear weapons and a 5,000-tonne stockpile of chemical weapons, according to the US Army.

The calculations were made last month in a report by the US Department of the Army, called North Korean tactics.

Sections warn Kim Jong-un’s regime may be able to obtain 100 such weapons by the end of this year, South Korean news agency Yonhap reports.

It reads: “Estimates for North Korean nuclear weapons range from 20-60 bombs, with the capability to produce 6 new devices each year.

North Korea is supposedly the third biggest possessor of chemical agents, with 2,500-5,000 tonnes and 20 different types, the research adds.

The authors say that Kim’s scientists have been working on weaponising anthrax or smallpox, and potentially mounting them on missiles to use against South Korea or the US.

It is believed the hermit kingdom also has an army of more than 6,000 hackers who are operating in countries such as China, India and Russia.

The report warns they can “reach targeted computers anywhere in the world”.

It also states that Kim does not want to end up like former Libyan ruler Muammar Gadaffi, who was killed by rebel forces after a NATO airstrike on his convoy.

Kim met with US President Donald Trump for the first time in Singapore in 2018, but talks on denuclearisation have since stalled.

Their second summit, held in Vietnam in early 2019, fell apart.

Trump and Kim met again at the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas in June 2019 and agreed to restart negotiations.

However, working-level talks between the two sides in Sweden in October were broken off.

Trump’s former national security adviser, John Bolton, told reporters in New York last week that the president might seek another summit with Kim as an “October Surprise” ahead of the election.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo later said Trump would only agree to talks if there was a likelihood of real progress.

Nigeria’s Foreign Assets At Risk As Enron Seeks To Enforce $22m Arbitration

Nigeria’s foreign assets at risk as Enron seeks to enforce $22m arbitration award

Quote:Nigeria is making frantic efforts to stop Enron Nigeria Power Holding (ENPH) from enforcing a $22 million arbitration award that could risk the country’s assets in the US, TheCable can report.

ENPH, an incorporation of the defunct Enron International, is seeking a turnover of Nigeria’s claim to proceeds from an $80 million mega yacht that was sold in the US.

In 2019, a US federal court had given Nigeria approval to sell the yacht, named “Galactica Star”, as part of an ongoing corruption case against Kola Aluko, Nigerian businessman who allegedly acquired it with diverted profits from oil sales in Nigeria.

The yacht has been sold for $37 million and ENPH is trying to lay claim to part of the proceeds in enforcing its $22 million arbitration award.

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, is now seeking approval from President Muhammadu Buhari to negotiate the award to protect the country’s assets, TheCable can report.

He told the president that ENPH could further target the country’s assets in California, New York and other states in America.

ROAD TO CONTRACT BREACH

On December 6, 1999, ENPH had entered a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Lagos state government, guaranteed by the federal government through the now-defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), later named Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

ENPH was to build, arrange, finance and run electricity generating plants and natural gas pipelines in Lagos state.

NEPA suspended the PPA on December 15, 1999 for renegotiation.

However, construction continued on the different phases of the porject.

By September 30, 2000, phases one and three of the contract were completed while negotiation for phase two of the construction failed.

At the time, Enron International had gone bankrupt, but it wrote to the federal government that this would not affect ENPH, the Nigeria arm, in carrying out its own part under the contract.

After several failed attempts at negotiating, ENPH commenced an arbitration against Nigeria on June 13, 2006 at the international chambers of commerce court of arbitration in London, accusing the government of breach of contractual agreement.

Six years later, on November 12, 2012, a final award (“Quantum”) was given against Nigeria in the sum of $11.22 million, with 2 per cent interest from June 13, 2006, and also expenses for legal services.

Attempts by the Nigerian government to negotiate the settlement failed.

ENRON SEEKS ENFORCEMENT

On July 19, 2013, ENPH, under the convention on the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards which Nigeria is also a signatory, approached the US court in the southern district of Texas to seek enforcement of the award.

The court granted ENPH the motion for confirmation of the award on October 16, 2015, prompting Nigeria government to appeal the judgement at the US district of Columbia circuit.

ENPH had also argued that Nigeria, following the contract, had waived its rights to challenge the award.

Nigeria’s appeal was subsequently dismissed, and the court affirmed the order to confirm the award.

In an interesting approach, ENPH also sought from the court a writ of garnishment to be issued against the JP Morgan Chase Bank on the ground that it has in its possession commercial assets belonging to Nigeria which could be garnished in satisfaction of the judgement in favour of ENPH.

The company’s prayer was, however, denied.

And in a fresh move on March 9, 2020, ENPH filed an amended application and this time asking the court for the turnover on the Galactica Star Nigerian assets.

The US department of justice (DoJ) and counsel to the Nigerian government again challenged the application, and on May 21, 2020, the court denied ENPH’s request.

ENPH, however, secured another order on July 15, 2020 to file an appeal.

MALAMI SEEKS BUHARI’S APPROVAL TO NEGOTIATE

In a letter dated July 28, 2020, Malami sought Buhari’s approval to negotiate the arbitration award against Nigeria in the failed power project.

Without a settlement, the AGF said, ENPH will continue to cause problems for Nigeria with different litigation which may put the Galactica case at risk.

“Without conceding, should ENPH succeed in attaching the USA v Galactica funds by deducting $22 million all that will be left for FGN will be about $5.4 million which may be less after deduction of the 3% success fee accruable to BCR,” Malami wrote in a letter seen by TheCable.

“The resultant implication would mean FGN will lose an asset it is rightfully entitled to, loss of revenue to FGN, loss of revenue as regards the huge litigation cost that has been paid to FGN counsel (disbursement and retainership fees) etc.

“In other to avoid unwarranted delay and ENPH further intervention,, it has been advised that is is in FRN’s interest to deal expeditiously with the intrusion of an unrelated issue (ENPH issue) in the repatriation of funds in the ongoing USA v Galactica case.”

Malami said without a settlement, ENPH will definitely hold up the earlier repatriation of the Galactica funds for a year or more.

The AGF asked the president to approve for Berliner Corcoran & Rowe (BCR), Nigeria’s counsel, in collaboration with the ministry of justice designated officers to proceed to engage in negotiation and settlement meeting with ENPH.

He argued that a negotiation may halt ENPH’s consideration of further action.

He also added that it may reduce the present amount being claimed by the company.

Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to the president, in another letter dated August 13, 2020, directed Saleh Mamman, minister of power, and Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, to review the matter and revert with “considered views to inform Mr President’s further directives”.

The development comes at a time government is also trying to get an upturn over the $9.6 billion awarded P&ID Ltd, an Irish firm, in arbitration against Nigeria.

SEC under-remits over N4.721b in three years
August 19, 2020

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under remitted N4.721billion over three years into the coffers of the Federal Government, it was gathered yesterday.

This was the discovery of the Hon James Faleke-headed House of Representatives joint committee on Appropriations, Finance, Aids, Loans & Debt Management and National Planning, during the interactive session on the 2021-2023 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP). SEC remitted N116,835,713, 04 over three years.

This is short of N4,721,809,362, which is the cash that should have been added to the amount remitted (that is N110 million) being the total of the 25 per cent the organisation should have remitted by law into the coffers of the Federal Government.

According to the records presented to the joint committee, by the Director-General of SEC, Mr. Lamido Yuguda, the organisation remitted N30 million (receipt no. G003071026 for the year 2018.

Also, N30,000,157.50  (receipt no. G003244118) was remitted as part of 2019 surplus.

And another cash of N56, 835, 555.54 was remitted as part of the 2019 surplus (receipt no. G003254018).

For 2018, SEC projected a total of N9,143,905,000 (N9.143 billion) and got N8,083,462,142.36 (N8.083 billion); while in 2019, N12,001,375,313.00 (N12.001 billion) was projected, while N8,533,086,139.32 (N8.533 billion was garnered.

But for this year, as at the date of rendering report to the joint committee, only N2,739,032,017.99 (N2.739 billion) has been received out of a projected N12, 318,700,000 for the year.

SEC is not a treasury-funded organisation, but is expected to remit 25 per cent of its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), or 80 per cent of its operating surplus (depending on which is higher) to the coffers of the Federal Government.

Naira weakens to N480/$1 on plans to re-start international flights
August 19, 2020

The naira on Tuesday fell 1.04 per cent to N480 to dollar on the black market after the Federal Government said it would reopen airports for international travel in two weeks, a move that could increase dollar demand, traders said.

The naira had been stable for over a week on the black market at N475 per dollar, where it trades at more than 20 per cent weaker to the official over-the-counter spot market.

With the price of oil, Nigeria’s main export, depressed and foreign exchange reserves dwindling, its central bank is hanging on to dollars to support the naira – leaving a shortage of hard currency supply for investors and importers.

Currency markets anticipate an increase in demand with airports having been closed since March 23 to all but essential international flights as part of efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

In March, the central bank suspended forex sales to retail currency bureaus that resell hard currency to individual users with medical bills and school fees abroad.

As international travel resumes from August 29, traders anticipate a surge in dollar demand, likely heightening pressure on a currency that has been devalued twice so far, and stretching the central bank’s ability to defend the naira.

ECOWAS Suspends Mali, To Impose Sanctions

Quote:The West Africa bloc ECOWAS on Tuesday condemned a military putsch in Mali and pledged a range of retaliatory actions, including financial sanctions.

Rebel soldiers arrested Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse on Tuesday afternoon following weeks of political tension in the country.

The dramatic move followed the seizure of an army base near the capital Bamako that morning.

In a statement, the Economic Community for West African States said that its members would close land and air borders to Mali and pledged to demand sanctions against “all the putschists and their partners and collaborators”.

The 15-nation bloc – which includes Mali – also said that it would suspend the country from its internal decision-making bodies.

“ECOWAS has noted with great concern the seizure of power by Malian military putschists,” said the statement, which was originally published in French.

Mali has been in the grip of a deep political impasse since June, with President Keita facing increasingly strident demands for his resignation.

The opposition June 5 Movement, named for the date of its first protest, has been channelling deep anger over a dire economy, perceived government corruption and a brutal jihadist conflict.

The opposition alliance’s anti-Keita campaign veered into crisis last month when at least 11 people were killed over three days of unrest that followed a protest.

In an effort to avoid chaos in notoriously unstable Mali, ECOWAS then stepped in to mediate.
The bloc suggested the formation of a unity government and other measures late last month, but stuck by Keita.

But the June 5 Movement has repeatedly spurned compromise proposals, and has continued to demand Keita’s departure.

The political opposition declared a new phase of anti-government rallies on Monday.

Keita, 75, is currently being held by rebel soldiers outside of the capital.

Former South African President, Jacob Zuma sued by third wife over maintenance money

Former South African President Jacob Zuma was on Tuesday August 18, represented in court by his advocate Nqabayethu Buthelezi after being sued by his third wife, Tobeka Madiba over maintenance money for her and her schoolgoing daughter.

Zuma was dragged to the Durban Magistrate’s Court by Tobeka, who is demanding a monthly maintenance fee of R14 000 for the upkeep of their 14-year-old daughter.

Arguing at the Durban Magistrate Court, head of Zuma's legal team Eric Mabuza denied claim of him not paying for the upkeep of his 14-year-old daughter.

Mabuza who countered claim of the former President not supporting his daughter since his split from his wife earlier this year, also pointed out that Tobeka has not worked since the child was born.

The hearing however ended without a final settlement. After the hearing which was held in-camera, Zuma’s legal representatives - Advocate Nqaba Buthelezi and Advocate Rudolph Mbalula refused to comment.

Tobeka also did not comment after the hearing as she was whisked away by members of the presidential protection unit, using a back exit.

The maintenance prosecutor, Thulasizwe Mahlobo said he could only divulge that the process was a mere mediation which need hearing from both sides and not a court case. He said;

Quote:“It was just a mediation process of certain issues that were happening and then we were just trying to find amicable ground… I was only facilitating.
“I was only facilitating and I actually don’t have the right to give out all the information at the moment up until the attorneys are happy with both sides and whatever that we agreed upon."

Mahlobo added that both parties will come back to the court in the near future for further deliberations in his presence.

He said;

Quote:“They are still going to come back. Both sides are still going to try and consult with their parties (Zuma and Madiba), then they will come back to me. Then we will finalise everything that we did with them and what actually transpired at the meeting.

“Mind you, there was nothing that was discussed before but currently, both parties were supposed to put their sides of the story so that we find amicable ground. You see, this is what the meeting was all about."

World Bank delays approval for Nigeria’s $1.5bn loan over Naira reform

The World Bank is delaying approval of Nigeria’s request for a $1.5 billion loan due to concerns over desired reforms, Reuters reports.

Unidentified sources told Reuters that the main concern being expressed by the World Bank was Naira reform.

Both the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, IMF, have, in the past, advised Nigeria to float its currency and allow market forces to determine the value of the naira.

According to the report, the World Bank had aimed to bring the loan request to its board for approval this August but the approval will now be delayed till October.

“They are not convinced about the reforms,” Reuters quoted a source close to the government to have said.

Although the World Bank has not outlined any demands, fuel subsidies and electricity tariffs were also said to be a part of the discussions.

The CBN has devalued the naira twice in 2020 and the Federal Executive Council in July, approved the removal of petrol subsidy.

The finance ministry was reported to have directed queries to the World Bank and while the Bretton Wood institution said discussions had reached an advanced stage, it confirmed that the loan request had not been presented to its board.

“Of particular importance are the steps the government is taking to marshal the needed fiscal resources for a pro-poor response to the crisis and undertake the reforms that will help ensure a robust recovery,” Reuters quoted a statement by the World Bank to have read.

The World Bank has already projected that Nigeria is heading for its worst recession in 40 years, which the Finance Minister, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, reiterated last week.

To meet budgetary obligations, the Nigerian government requested for loans worth $6.9 billion from the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and African Development Bank.

The IMF approved a $3.4 billion loan for Nigeria in April.

Nigerian oil mogul, Abdulrahman Bashir jailed in UK

Abdulrahman Bashir, the Chief Executive Officer of Rahamaniyya Oil and Gas Limited has been jailed in the United Kingdom.

Justice Butcher of England and Wales High Court sentenced the Nigerian oil mogul after he was found guilty of breaching multiple orders of the court in a pending suit instituted by Sahara Energy Resources Ltd.

Bashir who was handed a 10 months jail sentence, had been ordered to comply with requests for the release of 6,400.69 metric tonnes gas oil to Sahara Energy Resource Ltd or its agent from Rahamaniyya Oil and Gas Ltd, Jetty 6.436181, Ibafon, Kirikiri Waterfront, of Aero Maritime Street, Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria (“the Terminal”).

This was in line with the deal Ultimate Oil and Gas, the trading arm of Rahamaniyya Oil in the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), entered into a deal with Sahara Energy in 2018. In the signed contract, Ultimate agreed to buy, and Sahara agreed to sell 15,000 metric tonnes in the Vacuum of Gas Oil.

A Collateral Management Agreement (CMA) containing a London arbitration clause was entered into on July 8, 2018 between the two parties and it was further learnt that Rahamaniyya agreed to store the gas oil at its terminal pending payment by Ultimate.

Premium Times reported that Sahara delivered a total of 14,967.159 metric tonnes of gas oil to Rahamaniyya’s terminal in Nigeria and also issued invoices for the gas oil on October 26, 2018 for USD 10,760,728.77. The payment should have been made by August 29, 2019 but Ultimate defaulted in making necessary payments.

In December 2018, Ultimate and Sahara entered into a settlement agreement in which Ultimate confirmed that the value of gas oil that had been delivered was USD 10,760,728.77, and agreed to make a series of monthly payments for it.

Court records showed that some payments were made, in consequence of which some 8,566.469 metric tonnes of gas oil was released to Ultimate. Ultimate, however reneged in performing the terms of the settlement agreement in full by making all the payments due. After various warnings, on May 10, 2019, Sahara terminated the settlement agreement, notifying Ultimate that its agent, Asharami Synergy Plc would take delivery of part of the remaining gas oil from the terminal.

Various attempts made by Sahara to obtain delivery of the gas oil were futile, leading to the lawsuit which was filed both in Lagos and in the United Kingdom.

Justice Butcher who delivered the third order following a contempt of court judgement;

Quote:“The basis of the sentence was that Mr Bashir had committed continuing breaches of the order of Mr Justice Robin Knowles of 1 August 2019 and of the order of Mr Justice Bryan of 6 September 2019."

There was also a binding indication that the sentence could be reduced to six months if Mr Bashir complies with the relevant order which had previously been breached. He was also fined £500,000 while Adebowale Aderemi, its manager, was fined £10,000.

Ibrahim Boubacar Keita Resigns As Mali's President Resigns Amid Coup
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 08-19-2020, 09:36 AM - No Replies

Quote:Mali's President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta has resigned, after being detained by soldiers on Tuesday,

In a televised address, Mr Keïta said he was also dissolving the government and parliament.

"I want no blood to be spilled to keep me in power," he added.

It comes hours after he and Prime Minister Boubou Cissé were taken to a military camp near the capital Bamako, drawing condemnation from regional powers and France.

"If today, certain elements of our armed forces want this to end through their intervention, do I really have a choice?" said Mr Keïta.

"I hold no hatred towards anyone, my love of my country does not allow me to," he added. "May God save us."

Earlier, the mutinying soldiers took control of the Kati camp.

There has been anger among troops about pay and over a continuing conflict with jihadists - as well as widespread discontent with the former president.

Mr Keïta won a second term in elections in 2018, but there has been anger over corruption, the mismanagement of the economy and the rise of communal violence in areas of the country.

It has prompted several large protests in recent months. A new opposition coalition led by the conservative Imam, Mahmoud Dicko, has called for reforms after rejecting concessions from Mr Keïta, including the formation of a unity government.

It was led by Col Malick Diaw - deputy head of the Kati camp - and another commander, Gen Sadio Camara.

After taking over the camp, about 15km (nine miles) from Bamako, the mutineers marched on the capital, where they were cheered by crowds who had gathered to demand Mr Keïta's resignation.

On Tuesday afternoon they stormed his residence and arrested the president and his prime minister - who were both there.

The president's son, the speaker of the National Assembly, the foreign and finance ministers were reported to be among the other officials detained.

The number of soldiers taking part in the mutiny is unclear.

Kati camp was also the focus of a mutiny in 2012 by soldiers angry at the inability of the senior commanders to stop jihadists and Tuareg rebels taking control of northern Mali.

Garba Shehu Reacts To Oshiomhole & Gambari 'Arrest' Video

Quote:Edo Polls: Presidency Reacts To Viral Arrest Video

The Presidency has dismissed as a “patched work of mischief,” a viral video where the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, was heard telling the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, about “arrests” concerning the Edo state governorship election.

This followed the allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the presidential villa meeting may be a prelude to the arrest of unnamed opposition politicians and critics in the state before the September 19 election.

A statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, on Tuesday night, said that Gambari and Oshiomhole will never work against their values of protecting Nigerians.

It also stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s position that election must reflect the will of the people.

The statement read: “It is very important to strongly dispel misguided messaging amongst commentators, rights activists, advocates and journalists who have been reacting to a trending short video clip, alleging that the Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari and Chief Adams Oshiomhole, the former All Progressives Congress, APC chairman had hatched a plan to arrest opposition individuals ahead of the September, the election in Edo State.

“Firstly, it is important to state that the video was an ingenious patchwork of mischief, extracted from an innocent conversation focused on the emerging incidents of violence in the run-up to the election.”

EFCC Probes Akpabio, Pondie Over Diversion Of Public Funds Allegations
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 08-19-2020, 09:24 AM - No Replies

Quote:The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced an investigation into allegations of diversion of public funds against the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Professor Daniel Pondei.

Akpabio and Pondie had been accused of alleged N40 billion corruption in NDDC.

The position of the EFCC was contained in an acknowledgement letter in response to a petition it received from the foundation for true freedom and good governance.

The petition signed by the convener of the foundation Deji Adeyanju requested the commission to investigate the allegations against the Minister and the NDDC boss respectively.

The acknowledgement signed by EFCC head, Economic Governance, Adebayo Adeniyi reads: “We write to acknowledge the receipt of your petition dated 3rd August 2020 in respect of the above subject and to inform you that investigation into the case has commenced”

“In view of the above you are kindly requested to attend an interview with the undersigned through O/C team 6 on Thursday, August 20th at the EFCC headquarters, Jabi, Abuja.”

Akpabio had in a statement declared that he was ready to face any probe instituted to investigate his activities as Minister in charge of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

This declaration was contained in a press statement by Anietie Ekong, Chief Press Secretary to the Minister, issued in Abuja

According to Aniete, Akpabio was upbeat about the plan to probe the NDDC as he has no skeleton in his cupboard, adding: “In fact, he will welcome a public hearing beamed live for all Nigerians to see”

He continued: “The probe of the Commission along with the ongoing forensic audit will expose those who have used their exalted positions over the years to fleece the NDDC through fully paid contracts which were never executed and other forms of contact racketeering”

“While we await the probe if carried through, we find it extremely insulting for Senator Akpabio’s name to be dragged into what is obviously a smear campaign”

“The general public should not be misled by spurious claims. The NDDC under the supervision of Senator Akpabio will not be distracted neither will the ongoing forensic audit of the Commission be derailed through blackmail and intimidation”

“The Minister will remain focused on the mandate of President Muhammadu Buhari to reposition the Commission for sustainable development of the Niger Delta region”

Statement reads in part: “The attention of the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has been drawn to sensational headlines about an alleged N40 billion corruption in NDDC”

‘We wish to state categorically that under the supervision of Senator Akpabio, there has been no corruption in the NDDC”

“It is obvious that there has been an upsurge in attacks on the Commission, the Interim Management Committee and the Honourable Minister through spurious and unsubstantiated allegations since the commencement of forensic audit of the Commission. Unfortunately, these phantom allegations have found their ways into the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly”

‘In response to the campaign of calumny, the Commission had explained that the Interim Management Committee has only approved the total payment of Eighteen Billion Naira (N18, 000,000, 000) for contractual claims”

“The payments to contractors are all payments for contracts awarded by previous administrations, especially the payment for contracts below N50 million. The present management has not awarded any single contract. So where is the bogey N40 billion coming from?

“It is instructive that the Commission under the supervision of Senator Akpabio has devised a strategy by which only duly verified and inspected contracts with photo and video evidences are recommended and approved for payments. The Interim Management Committee has been very prudent in managing the affairs of the interventionist agency”

“The interest of Senator Akpabio has been to make sure that the NDDC completes its headquarters building, started since the days of the defunct Oil Minerals Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC), the contract of which was awarded with approval of the Federal Executive Council many years before Senator Akpabio became the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs’

“Following the recent Presidential approval, the NDDC is also providing intervention support to complement efforts of the Federal and State governments against further spread of COVID 19 in the nine states of the Niger Delta.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY 19TH AUGUST.

GIVE CARE AND ATTENTION TO OTHERS

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me (Matthew 25:40).

God’s desire is for you to be highly successful and happy, so you can reach out to help others who are despondent, for He said: “…I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2).

Instead of seeking attention and expecting someone to make you happy, He wants you to be the one offering care to others.

There’re those who get frustrated because they think others don’t care about them. The more they crave attention, the more it seems they’re ignored, and this upsets them. Philippians 2:4 TLB says, “Don’t just think about your own affairs, but be interested in others too….” Even in prayer, don’t be self-centred, conscious of your needs only; be conscious of the needs of others.

I remember a dear brother who was brought in for one of our meetings, sick and so weak. While he was still trying to keep his broken body stable on the chair, another sick person in a more terrible state was brought in and laid beside him. His debilitating condition moved this brother to tears, and he later said when he saw this sick man and how dire his state was, he forgot about himself and began praying for him to be healed. The man received his healing and he also was healed!

When you get concerned about others, God will take care of your own desires. Maybe you’ve been praying and asking God for a new job for a while now, why don’t you pray for others who are out of jobs too? Rather than being overwhelmed by the issues in your family, begin to pray for other families around you. When you live with this consciousness, miracles will happen in your life without your having to ask. Hallelujah!

Always be gracious enough to help others, and loving enough to care about them. You’re God’s outstretched arm of blessings, love and care to your world. Think this of yourself today, because it’s God’s perception of you.

CONFESSION

God is able to make all grace—every favour and earthly blessing—come to me in abundance, so that I may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient, possessing enough to require no aid or support, and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation. Glory to God!

Affimationtrain

Leaked Video: PDP Calls Out Presidency Over Oshiomhole’s Arrest Comment

…Charges Buhari to question Gambari

Quote:By Dirisu Yakubu

The Peoples Democratic Party national campaign council for Edo Governorship Election has called out the Buhari Presidency over a trending video allegedly showing former All Progressives Congress, APC, national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari discussing the “arrest” of unnamed persons.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC5oZ5MIYR4

The amateur video showed Oshiomhole walking briskly alongside Gambari, with the former Edo state governor saying, “Arrest…deal with and the whole will change,” while Gambari responded saying “we will go beyond…”

Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday, national publicity secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan said the arresting comment may not be unconnected with the September 19 governorship election in Edo state.

He said: “Nigerians were alarmed by the video in which Oshiomhole was seen emphatically urging the Chief of Staff to Mr President on the need to clampdown on certain unnamed Nigerians to achieve political suppression and submission ahead of the Edo election.

“Our national campaign holds that the presence and involvement of the Chief of Staff to the President and the fact that the discussion held within the precincts of the Presidential Villa has made the Presidency complicit and place a huge burden on President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Already, there is anxiety in the public space that the discussion between Oshiomhole and Prof. Gambari as captured in the video is an extension of discussions that must have held behind closed doors in the Presidential villa.

“The video has validated earlier revelations of plots by Oshiomhole and the APC governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to use compromised security operatives being mobilized by certain individuals in the Presidency, to arrest innocent Nigerians, including traditional, faith-based and community leaders on trumped-up charges, ahead of the Edo election.”

Ologbondiyan who doubled as the secretary, publicity sub-committee of the campaign council, further said the people of Edo state now know who to blame should things go wrong in the governorship poll.

“Nigerians and the people of Edo state now know those to hold responsible should there be cases of illegal arrests, assassinations and unexplained killings, sudden disappearances of prominent people, accidental discharge by federal security operatives and mysterious accidents in the course of this Edo governorship election.

“The PDP national campaign council on Edo governorship election charges President Buhari to reassure Nigerians by immediately ordering that Adams Oshiomhole and Prof. Gambari be pulled in for questioning over the video.

“Anything short of decisive action on this matter will further indict the Buhari Presidency especially coming on the heels of public anxiety over Mr President’s widely condemned comment on the use of security forces for elections.

“Our campaign, however, wants the APC and Oshiomhole to know that their ignoble plots against the people of Edo state have come to nought as the people are at alert and will use every legitimate means available to defend they’re already expressed will in support of the candidate of our party, the PDP, Governor Obaseki in this election,” he added.

Vanguard could not verify the authenticity of the eight seconds video at the time of filing this report.

Video shows police officer placing a knee on boy's neck during arrest in Germany

Authorities in Germany have opened an investigation after Dusseldorf Police officers were filmed pinning a boy to the ground and kneeling on his neck as they tried to arrest him.

The incident happened at around 7.30 pm in Dusseldorf's Old Town on August 15.

Video footage shared online shows one officer pinning the boy's hands behind his back and the other kneeling on his neck, in the same position that led to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis back in May.

Officials in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia are now investigating the incident as a case of possible police misconduct

The four Dusseldorf Police officers involved are being probed by Duisburg Police for "reasons of neutrality", the force said in a statement.

Officers were originally called to a restaurant in Dusseldorf to reports of 10 people rioting, German police said.

Dusseldorf police said the suspect resisted arrest and assaulted the officers. He was subsequently taken to a police station for questioning but was then handed back to his legal guardians.

The incident will be investigated by a different police department to ensure neutrality, officials said.

"We take this video very seriously," a spokesman for the state's Interior Ministry said. The spokesman added that if misconduct is found, prosecutors will take the necessary measures to address it.

  Ize-iyamu Can’t Defeat Me - Obaseki
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), spoke with reporters in Lagos on why he should be re-elected on September 19. EMMANUEL OLADESU was there

There seems to be strong opposition to your second term bid. Are you ready to play the Nigerian brand of politics to ensure that you return to power?

This notion of Nigerian brand of politics is one that is creating different themes. Does it mean that I should have accumulated money meant to work for the people of Edo State? Does it mean that because it is election time, I should begin to brand my own story; who I am and what I am not? I will tell you that Edo State has always been a PDP state because it has always won national elections, while All Progressives Congress (APC) had only won local elections. So, in terms of the political configuration of the state, at best, you can say it was 50/50.

Who is APC? APC is the state and the state governor, and in that fight, Adams Oshiomhole did not have control of the state structure of the party. I had it and I have it. All the local chairmen are with me; all the members of the state House of Assembly are with me except the ones he procured but whom I threw out. I also have all the councilors. So, in terms of political structure, I believe I have more than 75 per cent of the APC. With 75 per cent of the APC and 50 per cent of the PDP in the new configuration, if that structure cannot win the election, I don’t know what can win.

Then, coming to the people; yes, politicians can make noise during campaigns but the reality is that voter turnout had always been low in Nigeria because for most people, they don’t have a stake except what they are given on election day for them to go and vote. There is very limited connection between the people and the government, so why go and vote or participate in the process. As a result of this, only the politicians participate in the political system. But what we had done in Edo State in the past four years, which is remarkable, is provision of services to the people and they now have a connection with the government.

I have 300,000 children in my school system and we spend about N16,000 on each of them in Edo Best. The parents who are poor have seen a difference in their children. In this era of COVID-19; they see the teachers calling to give lessons. Are you saying that the parents of this 16,000 school children doesn’t matter? They are getting something and there is a connection between them and the government. So, will they not participate in the process because I keep reminding them that if I am not there, the benefits will go because they will take the money meant for such programmes?

What about the pensioners and the civil servants, who knew what their situation was before now. Do you think they will just keep quiet and allow the state to return to bad old days? In Edo, what I did was to set up Ward Development Committees, where in every of the 192 wards, there are about 15 to 17 men and women who live in their communities constitute themselves into a committee and they meet regularly and I empower them to talk about and bring up issues that affect their respective wards because the local governments are not strong. So, they let me know what their priorities are. What about my School Based Management Committees in all the communities of Edo State?

In summary, what I am explaining about the politics of Edo State at the moment is that I am now in PDP and the party is not a pushover. There is a structure and the party has always won elections. Do they want to retain me in government house? I believe so. In the APC, there are those who are there and are with me today. Do they have a vested interest? I believe so. The question then is: Who is the opposition? The opposition is the tiny army of Oshiomhole’s thugs, not any major reputable political player.

Are you capable of challenging that “tiny army of political thugs?”

I will not talk about that, but I will tell you that nobody has the monopoly of violence.

Are you confident that the votes of Edo people will count given other factors that come to play during elections?

There is this factor which they have been banking on; what they call federal might and force. But the fact remains that if we really want our democracy to survive; they should not play with the Edo State governorship election. This is not a general election, it is an off season election. So, everybody would be watching. Again, if there is anything we need in Nigeria of today, it is credibility. So, I don’t believe that the people in Abuja are that dumb and crazy not to understand the crisis and danger we will face, if they don’t allow the votes of Edo people to count. In any case, my feedback from Abuja is: Why should they do it? It is not that I willingly left APC; Oshiomhole donated Edo to PDP, so they should not come and fight us. They should quarrel and fight the man, who decided to give away the state.

Does it mean that you are ruling out the use of force during the election?

As a governor and statesman, I don’t want to talk about use of force and thuggery to subvert the will of the people. But, I am insisting that they should not try it because if they do so, any crisis that starts from Edo, which is in the middle of the country, will have a major effect on the rest of the country.

What are some of those things you have done in last four years, which you believe, will see you back to power because the opposition is saying that you’ve done nothing. This is as they also raised issues about your certificate…

How can they talk about my certificate when the university that issued it has come out to say that it did so? They claim that I have done nothing, but some of you have come to Edo and they will testify that there is something on ground. How can they say that there is nothing on ground when the World Bank and the Teachers Union are saying ‘well done, you are transforming education in Nigeria?’

It is the old politic; just tell the lies for a long time and it will become the truth but they have failed to realize that this country is different now; it is about getting more stakeholders on the table. So, that old politics of telling the lies with the belief that it will turn to truth in the age of technology is stupid.

Nigeria is the way it is today because some people don’t understand the changes that have occurred. Before now. People will not bother about the process, but now it matters to them. You cannot continue to choke a whole population and think that things will still be the way they used to be. So, I think that we have to change the narratives otherwise all of us would be consumed.

Your major challenger, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu said you promised 200,000 jobs but have not created any. How would you respond to that?

My opponent is Oshiomhole and not Ize-Iyamu because in Edo today, nobody will touch him. But answering your question, I didn’t say that jobs creation will be all about employing people into the civil service. I did say that I will create the enabling environment that will bring in the industries and business that will create the jobs. The plantations alone between Okomu and PRESCO, since I came in have more than doubled their employments. In fact, this is their harvest season but they can’t find enough people to come and harvest for them.

In terms of infrastructure; the number of contractors that have come in, what they are doing and the people they have employed cannot be imagined. So, we can say that over 150,000 have been tracked and the documents are there for anyone to verify.

The clash between PDP and APC supporters during the flag-off of your campaign; is it a sign of what might play out ahead of the September 19 election?

They know that they will not win the election and that is clear to them.

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria has asked the Kano state government to execute 22-year-old singer Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, who was found guilty of blasphemy few weeks ago.

The council in a statement released by its secretary Nafi’u Baba-Ahmad, berated those asking for the convict to be pardoned.

It added that the case is purely an Islamic affair and in consonance with the religion, culture and wishes of not only the people of Kano but the majority of the population of Nigeria who are Muslims.

The statement read;

Quote:“The calls by some so-called human rights groups to pardon the culprit should not deter the state government from doing the right thing.

“This case is purely an Islamic affair, in consonance with the religion, culture and wishes of not only the people of Kano, but the majority of the population of Nigeria who are Muslims.

“The council further wishes to emphatically remind all Nigerians especially the secular human rights groups that the judgement is in line with the Supreme Court judgement.”

Nigerian scholarship students living from "hand-to-mouth" abroad

Nigerian scholarship students living from "hand-to-mouth" abroad as their funds have still not arrived 12 months later

More than 200 students who got a scholarship through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in 2019 are still stranded as their scholarship funds have still not arrived 12 months later.

Back in July, some of the Nigerian scholarship students protested at Nigeria's High Commission's office. They revealed that they've been forced to do odd jobs to survive.

CNN interviewed some of the affected students and they narrated how they've been sending emails to the awarding body without receiving a positive response.

Mercy Eyo is one of those affected. Mercy, from Bonny Island, Rivers State, was awarded a foreign postgraduate scholarship in July 2019.

She had just lost her father at the time. A year earlier, her mother had passed away.

She was elated about the prospect of starting a master's degree in global health care management at Coventry University, in the United Kingdom, with a scholarship from a Nigerian government agency.

"I was super excited ... I felt it was a consolation that would change my life forever," Eyo said.

"It was that one little time I had hope in the Nigerian dream," she told CNN, "because I wanted to return home afterward to offer what I had to the society."

However, that dream has turned into a nightmare for Eyo who couldn't travel despite selling most of her possessions to raise the money when NDDC didn't fulfil their promise,

CNN has seen a scholarship letter dated July 29, email exchanges between Mercy Eyo and the awarding body and scanned copies of the letters she sent to the NDDC in December 2019 requesting funds to process her travel arrangements.

She was told to make her way abroad and the money would later follow, but despite selling her laptops, phones and other valuable properties, Eyo wasn't able to raise her travel funds and visa processing fees and lost her place at the UK's Coventry University.

She remains in Nigeria with no signs of the funds promised to her.

"These are things that make me cry sometimes or feel depressed," Eyo told CNN.

Other scholarship students from Nigeria that CNN spoke to were able to make their way abroad. But they are also still waiting for the promised funds.

They told CNN that their emails and correspondence with the agency have been mostly ignored since September 2019.

The scholars are scattered in various universities across the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.

Another student, Andrew Saba is studying for a master's degree in public health at the University of Aberdeen.

"I don't know the worth of a Nigerian life to the people in power. I feel betrayed by Nigeria ... I can't understand how a country can abandon her brightest of minds in a foreign land. I can't relate to priorities of the country," said Saba.

"I am disappointed. It is supposed to be a joyful thing to get a scholarship from your country. Numerous countries give their citizens scholarship... but ours require extra activism to work. This is not how it should be."

The students said they are going through a lot of hardship due to a lack of funds and are unable to engage in menial jobs to survive because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Each masters' scholar is owed $30,000, while the PhD students are owed $90,000, which runs for the duration of their three-year program.

Others say they live on charity from family at home and friends abroad, while looking for new jobs to start paying their debts and bills.

Some of them have been told by their universities that their graduation isn't possible until their debts are paid.

In May, after growing pressure, the agency paid a "take-off" grant of around $1,290. This was an initial payment that was supposed to help the students with their initial visa processing and travelling costs last year.

Some of the students recently held protests at the Nigerian High Commission Office in London. The protesters caught the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari who, on August 4, ordered the NDDC to immediately pay the outstanding sums owed to the students stranded across the globe.

The NDDC promised to pay the fees by the end of that week, adding that the death of the executive director of finance as well as the coronavirus pandemic was responsible for the delay in paying their fees.

However, none of the students CNN spoke to has received their outstanding payment.

CNN has contacted NDDC to find out why the payments to the students have still not been made two weeks after the President's order. The report says the NDDC has not yet responded to the request for comment.

Former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said that Nigerian leaders have allowed international flights to resume only because it was time for their children and wards to return to schools abroad.

Sowore, the Publisher of SaharaReporters, said the government does not care about the people.
Recall that the Federal Government had yesterday approved the resumption of international flights with effect from August 29, 2020.

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, made this known, saying, “Glad to announce the resumption of international flights from the 29th of August, 2020.”

Reacting to the development, Sowore said, “They are happy to announce commencement of international flights because it is time for their children/wards to return to schools abroad, September is the resumption date for most schools abroad! Nobody is willing or happy to reopen schools here. #Theydontcareaboutus #RevolutionNow.”

Recall that the Federal government had in March banned international flights as one of its measures to tackle the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Ajaokuta Is 90 Percent Complete, May Be Functional Early 2023 – Minister
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 08-18-2020, 04:13 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Minister of Mines and Steel, Olamilekan Adegbite, on Monday, said the Ajeokuta Steel Mill is 90 percent complete and may be functional by early 2023.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj5uqAk8byc

Adegbite made the remarks while making an appearance on Channels Television’s breakfast show, Sunrise Daily.

The development of the steel mill was started in the 1970s but has evaded completion several decades after.

The Minister, on Monday, said the current revitalisation plan for the steel mill was kick-started in October 2019, when a Nigerian delegation, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, attended the Russia-Africa summit in Sochi, Russia.

In Sochi, President Buhari invited the Russians to help complete the steel mill on a Build-Operate-Transfer model, Adegbite said.

The Russians agreed and were set to arrive in Nigeria in March 2020, with the project to last for about two years.

However, the coronavirus pandemic threw a spanner into the wheels as the countries closed their borders to halt the virus and the Russians were unable to fly into Nigeria for an on-site audit.

Adegbite said once international borders are open, the process will resume and Ajaokuta may become operation between late 2022 and early 2023.

What the Minister Said?

“I came into office last year and the process to actually kickstart Ajaokuta this time around started in October last year. I was privileged to be with Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari at the Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi, Russia. And, of course, on the sidelines of that summit, we had a bilateral (agreement) with the Russian government).

“And one of the things President Buhari presented as our requests, was for the Russians to come and help to complete Ajaokuta on a build-operate-transfer basis, so Ajaokuta will not be a burden to government again. And, of course, it was accepted.

“Don’t forget that Ajaokuta itself was built by the Russians and Ukrainians under the Soviet Union. So we’ve gone back to the original builder and said, look there’s just a little bit to complete this – some will tell you it was 95 percent completed, 90 percent, depending on what sector you are looking at. But Ajaokuta is advanced. Overall, if you look at the whole complex, it’s about 90 percent completed.

Adegbite, made an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on August 17, 2020.

“So we said let the Russians come in, complete it, operate it for a while to recoup the money that’s going to be used to complete it and, of course make their profit, and transfer ownership back to Nigeria. That is the basis, on a government-to-government basis. And that was the proposal which we gave to the Russians and they accepted. And we are in that process.

“Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed things down. We would have moved further than we are now. The plan was for the Russians – after the exchange of some papers and of course a few meetings (we had a meeting in Cairo) – the Russians were supposed to come down sometime in March to do what you call evaluation; that’s the technical audit of the complex itself. They need to look at the machinery, the complex, everything and say, look for us to kickstart this thing and bring it to a working condition, it’s going to cost x amount. That’s what the technical audit is all about. After negotiation of that bill that will be submitted, then the Russians will move in.

“The audit itself was supposed to take three months. If they had come in March, perhaps we would have had the engineers working on-site by now. Unfortunately because of the pandemic, this is August, they are yet to come for the audit. The audit has to be done physically.

“So we are looking at – as soon as the international border restrictions are lifted, they will come in and do the audit.

“The whole thing was supposed to take about two years, for them to complete and start operations. This, of course, has been delayed a little. So 2020 was not in the reckoning. If they had started in 2020, we would be looking at 2022. We are hoping that we can still be on track, fast track a few things and, of course, still be able to do maybe the last quarter of 2022 or early 2023 for Ajaokuta to come onstream.”

Boko Haram Invades Borno, Destroys Telecom Mast, Other Facilities

Quote:Heavily armed Boko Haram terrorists on Monday invaded Magumeri Local Government Headquarters of Borno state and firstly razed down the only functional Telecommunications mast before setting ablaze other infrastructural facilities.

Just last week, some terrorists invaded surrounding communities of Magumeri and displaced hundreds of farmers and herders, after killing 6 other with an unspecified number of fleeing residents sustained gunshot injuries.

Magumeri is north and about 40km drive from Maiduguri the state capital which has witnessed series of Boko Haram attacks including the abduction of Oil Exploration Workers and staff from the Department of Geology, University of Maiduguri, on a mission around the shores of the Lake Chad Basin.

Vanguard Correspondent gathered from fleeing residents that the insurgents invaded the community at about 4 pm, while the military airstrike engaged them, but to no avail, as the insurgents succeeded and infiltrated the Council Headquarters which make it difficult for the airstrike to engage the terrorists amidst innocent civilians.

Member Representing Magumeri, Gubio and Kaga federal constituency, Hon Usman Zannah, in a telephone call confirmed the fresh infiltration of Boko Haram in Magumeri Council.

He said, “Yes I can confirm to you that at about 4 pm today (Monday), some heavily armed Boko Haram terrorists attacked our communities in Magumeri, and when the military airstrike was deployed to repel the attack, the insurgents succeeded and infiltrated the Council Headquarters.

“It is unfortunate that I don’t have details of the attacks, because, the terrorists razed down the only functional Telecommunications Mast which made it difficult to communicate with my people.

“My prayer is that Allah (God) in His infinite mercy will protect our innocent civilians against any harmful attacks from the insurgents.

“Just last week, many of my people living in surrounding villages of Magumeri Council Area were attacked and now displaced, after looting their foodstuff and domestic animals.

“In last week attacks, we also lost many of our people who were killed by the insurgents, as others sustained various degrees of injuries,” Hon Zannah stated.

Portuguese President Marcelo Helps Rescue Two Women At Sea
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 08-18-2020, 04:01 PM - No Replies

Quote:Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has helped rescue two women who came into difficulty at an Algarve beach when their kayak capsized.

The president, 71, was pictured on Saturday swimming over to the kayakers who were struggling in the water. He later told reporters that the women had been swept by currents from a neighbouring beach into the bay. President Rebelo de Sousa is currently on holiday in the Algarve in a bid to promote tourism there.

Portugal's economy relies heavily on its tourism industry, which has been hugely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
The president had just spoken to journalists at Praia do Alvor beach when he noticed the women struggling.

Video footage caught the moment he swam into the sea to assist them. Another man was already there, trying to help turn the kayak over while a person on a jet ski also approached to offer help.

The man on the jet ski then managed to tow the kayak back to the shore.

After assisting the women, President Rebelo de Sousa told journalists that the women had come from another beach.
"As there is a very large west current, they were dragged out, turned around, swallowed a lot of water and were not even able to turn [the kayak], nor to climb [on it], or swim, such is the strength of the current," he told local media. The president said he was helped by another "patriot" on the jet ski.

He warned that the women should be careful in future.
According to broadcaster 20 Minutos, the president is spending his holidays visiting different areas of the country to promote tourism.

Portugal remains off the list of countries that the UK government has exempted from quarantine restrictions.
The country is incredibly popular with British holidaymakers, with almost three million UK visitors a year. More tourists from the UK head to the Algarve each summer than from any other country.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday received his immediate predecessor in office, Goodluck Jonathan, at the State House, Abuja.

Jonathan is the ECOWAS Special Envoy to the Republic of Mali.
He briefed the president on the political situation in the West African country.

The meeting coincides with the reports of soldiers’ arrest of senior officers in an apparent mutiny.
Buhari and other ECOWAS leaders had visited Bamako, Mali, last month.
Jonathan, who was in Mali from Monday to Thursday last week, recounted his meetings with the stakeholders.

They include political and religious leaders, Ambassadors of US, France, Russia, Germany, European Union.

M5-RFP, the main opposition group, insists on the resignation of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
But ECOWAS insists it cannot order a sitting president to vacate office.

“We told them that no international organization, including the African Union, United Nations and others, would agree with their position. We continued to emphasize the need for dialogue,” Jonathan stressed.

Buhari thanked Jonathan for “the stamina you have displayed” on the Mali issue.

He counseled further consultations with the Chairman of ECOWAS, President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger Republic.

NBA Conference: Lawyers Deregister, Query El-rufai’s Inclusion As Key Speaker
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 08-18-2020, 03:18 PM - No Replies

Quote:With nine days to the 60th annual Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Conference, some lawyers on social media have queried the inclusion of Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai as one of the key speakers in the forthcoming virtual conference

NBA had on May 12, 2020, stated that it will hold its Annual General Conference (AGC) slated for August virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Paul Usoro (SAN) who was then president of the association, the decision became necessary following a meeting with the Technical Committee on Conference Planning (TCCP) led by Professor Konyinsola Ajayi (SAN), where it was decided that the 2020 AGC would be held virtually.

The conference is expected to commence from 26th through 29th August 2020.

Speakers at the event include the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, Speaker, Federal House of Assembly, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon Justice Tanko Mohammed.

Other key speakers include former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, Former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), Brian Speers and Director of Training at the Judicial Institute for Africa; Hon Dame Linda, Dobbs

Reacting to the inclusion of governor El-Rufai’s name on the list of key speakers, one of the lawyers identified as Itong Washington who deregistered from being part of the virtual conference wrote on Twitter “Dear @NigBarAssoc, I just ran through the list of speakers in the forthcoming virtual conference and Gov. El-Rufai’s name is on the list. I’ll be withdrawing my attendance and cancelling my registration for the conference. Thank you”.

The lawyer, however, did not state the reason behind his action after seeing El-Rufai’s name on the list and NBA was yet to react to the development as at the time of filing this report.

Also, the convener of Open Bar Initiative, Silas Joseph Onu while condemning the inclusion of El-Rufai’s name on the list of speakers, in a statement on Tuesday made available to Vanguard said “We have observed, with grave disappointment, the inclusion of Governor Nasir El’rufai as one of the speakers in the 2020 Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association.

“It is sad that at a time when El’rufai is playing ostrich with the senseless killings in Kaduna, the Bar Association is giving him our collective platform to speak. One can be sure that he will also use the given platform to advance his conflated narrative, designed to deceive and confuse the nation on the real causes of the killings.

“The Kaduna killings cannot be justified as a reprisal by the Governor, using our platform. Reprisal killing is also a criminal offence. However, this Governor makes it appear like a justified cause.

“We are, therefore, calling on the organisers of this conference to immediately remove El’rufai from the list of speakers as not doing so will mean that the NBA is condoning his tactics of wilful maladministration regarding Kaduna South security situation”

Silas further stated that should the NBA Conference Planning Committee and the President of the Bar insist on proceeding with El’rufai as a speaker, the initiative will encourage Nigerian Lawyers to boycott the virtual conference.

As at the time of filing this report, over 15,012 participants have registered for the forthcoming virtual conference.

Ex-Imo state governor, Ikedi Ohakim and rumored mistress allegedly fight dirty; police step in

Former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, is reportedly at loggerheads with a lady who he allegedly had a romantic relationship with and is now reportedly threatening his life.

According to a report by Premiumtimes, Ohakim who was in office from 2007 to 2011, was allegedly in a relationship with one Chinyere Amuchienwa who lives in Lagos and deals in luxury items.

Their alleged relationship turned sour and the governor is allegedly claiming Ms Amuchienwa is threatening to blackmail him and has involved the police. The lady in question alleged that the former governor gave her a fake diamond ring as an engagement ring.

Ohakim, 63, has been married to his wife, Chioma, for 39 years and they have five children and many grandchildren.

Read the report below

Quote:A former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, is involved in a dirty fight with a Nigerian woman he had a romantic relationship with, and at some point told the police the woman assaulted him inside a hotel room in Abuja.

The woman, whose name is Chinyere Amuchienwa, is from Imo State. She lives in Lagos where she deals in luxury items.
Mr Ohakim, 63, was governor from 2007 to 2011. He lost the election in 2019 when he contested again for the seat in Nigeria’s South-East.

He has been married for 39 years to Chioma Ohakim, a lawyer. They have five children and grandchildren.

In a petition dated January 20, which he sent to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, Mr Ohakim said, “On Saturday, January 18, 2020, Miss Chinyere physically assaulted me. She deceived me and lured me with a meeting request. I subsequently invited her to my hotel room at BON Hotel, Asokoro and she arrived at about 20:15 p.m.

“Directly I opened the door quite innocently, pandemonium took over, she bounced on me grabbing me by my shirt with all her strength and gave me a violent push.”

Mr Ohakim continued, “As I staggered to recover, she rushed for my phone on the table and a struggle ensured (sic). Directly I retrieved the phones from her she immediately rushed to grab something from her bag which I strongly suspected to be a gun.”

Mr Ohakim said he ran outside his room, shouting for help.

The incident, he said to the police, could be confirmed from the hotel’s CCTV.

He said he “immediately” filed a complaint at a police station in Asokoro against his estranged mistress.
The former governor told the police that Ms Amuchienwa is a 56-year-old divorcee.

He said Ms Amuchienwa has been his friend whom he “lavishly extended a lot of favour to” and that she was even involved in his failed 2019 governorship election campaign, but that the relationship went sour and since then she has been threatening to “blackmail” and “destroy” him.

He said he was “completely terrified” and wanted the police chief, Mr Adamu, to intervene in the case.

He promised in his petition to provide specific evidence to the police to back up his allegations against Ms Amuchienwa.

Mr Ohakim described himself to the police as one who holds the traditional titles of “Ogbujingidi of Igbo land and the Otumba Tomitope of Yoruba land”, including “other 51 chieftaincy titles across Nigeria,” besides being a former governor of Imo state, a businessman and a “defence and security contractor.”

The police responded to Mr Ohakim’s petition and asked him to report at the force CID for an interview on June 1.

They requested him to bring along specific evidence he said he had, including any other useful information that could help in the police investigation.
The police letter was signed by Abdulkadir Jimoh, a commissioner of police.

The former governor and his estranged mistress reported at the force headquarters and were both interviewed by the assistant inspector-general of police in-charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau.

Ms Amuchienwa told PREMIUM TIMES, Saturday, that Mr Ohakim did not tender any supporting evidence or call any witness during the police interview, an assertion this newspaper could not verify.

Mr Ohakim’s phone number returned “cannot receive call at the moment” when this newspaper tried repeatedly to reach the former governor over the weekend.

A text message sent to his phone line was also not delivered at the time of filing this report.

PREMIUM TIMES, Saturday, contacted Emmanuel Ohakim, a brother to the former governor, but the call was switched off immediately our reporter finished introducing himself. He did not call back or pick subsequent calls from the reporter.

Ms Amuchienwa, on her part, tendered some documents to the police to counter Mr Ohakim’s claims.

Mr Ohakim, through his lawyers, J. N. Egwuonwu & Co., wrote to the inspector-general of police on July 20 requesting copies of the documents tendered by Ms Amuchienwa, including her account statement with Access Bank, which the lawyers said she claimed she used to transfer some money to Mr Ohakim.

Patrick Agu, a lawyer in the chambers, promised to get back to PREMIUM TIMES on the status of the case and to also let the paper know if the documents tendered by Ms Amuchienwa were released to them. But he did not call back. He did not also pick subsequent calls from the reporter.

Ms Amuchienwa, in her response to PREMIUM TIMES’ questions, admitted she was in a relationship with the former governor.

“I am an adult and I am entitled to date anybody I choose to,” she said.
Ms Amuchienwa, however, said the quarrel between her and Mr Ohakim was about some money she said the former governor took from her and was yet to pay back.

She also said Mr Ohakim visited her shop in Lagos and carted away designer’s suitcase, bags, shoes, and other luxury goods, which he has allegedly refused to pay for.

Mr Ohakim, in his petition, addressed this claim by Ms Amuchienwa. He said he got the items as gifts from her.

“Two or three times she travelled out, she bought some gift items for me purely unsolicited and in reciprocal to mine. Items such as coffee, perfume, bag and shirt,” he said.

Those were not gifts, but things Mr Ohakim picked on credit, Ms Amuchienwa said.

Ms Amuchienwa, during her interview with PREMIUM TIMES, called Mr Ohakim a “scammer”.

“I kept asking (Ohakim) every day, ‘What do you do for a living?’ The day I knew he was a scammer was the day he made a voice note and mentioned that he took my $200,000.”

Ms Amuchienwa sent the voice note to PREMIUM TIMES via WhatsApp, but this newspaper has not been able to verify if the voice is that of Mr Ohakim.
On the incident at BON Hotel, Abuja, Ms Amuchienwa disputed the claims by Mr Ohakim.

She said she was invited to the hotel by the former governor and that she accepted the invitation because she thought it was about the money he was allegedly owing her.

“I was invited to the hotel, the appointment was made (since) last year when I said I would not see him anymore…. And it’s still based on the money Ohakim is owing me. We don’t have any reason to meet anymore, we don’t even have any communication anymore.”

Ms Amuchienwa said Mr Ohakim snatched her phone, ran out of the hotel room with it when she declined to sit down with him.

She said she walked down the stairs to the hotel reception and reported the incident to the hotel officials.

Shortly after, police officers from the Asokoro police station visited BON Hotel on Mr Ohakim’s prompting.

All the items in her handbag, she said, were poured out at the reception and no gun was found as alleged by Mr Ohakim.

Both Mr Ohakim and Ms Amuchienwa were subsequently interviewed at the Asokoro police station over the incident.
Ms Amuchienwa said she declined a ride from the former governor when both of them were done and were about leaving the station.

Mr Ohakim in his petition to the police chief, Mr Adamu, said Ms Amuchienwa, accompanied by people he suspected to be hired thugs, used a vehicle to barricade the entrance to his residence in Abuja in May last year.

Ms Amuchienwa told PREMIUM TIMES the allegation was false.

She said she went only with a driver to Mr Ohakim’s residence, met with his orderly and peacefully asked if he (Ohakim) had left her money with him.

Ms Amuchienwa also responded to Mr Ohakim’s allegation that she could not account for over N100 million she received from him for the prosecution of the 2019 governorship election campaign in Ideato North Local Government Area, Imo state, where she was the co-ordinator.

She said the former governor could not provide any evidence or witness to substantiate the allegation when the police at the force headquarters requested him to do so.

“They asked him (Ohakim), ‘you said you gave her N100 million, how did you give it to her?’ He said he was the one who carried it (in cash) to her. Nobody was there? No signature?” Ms Amuchienwa told PREMIUM TIMES.

“I have never asked him for N700 million (as he is claiming in his petition),” she said. “I don’t blackmail. All I want is for Ikedi Ohakim to give me back my money.”
She, however, declined to mention the total money Mr Ohakim was owing her.

“Ikedi (Ohakim) brought land document and showed to me, he said the land belonged to him.

The land is on the airport road in Lagos, he even took us there. He said he was waiting for payment from the buyer of the land and that when they pay him he would be able to pay (me my money).

“It was when this trouble started that we discovered the land didn’t belong to Ikedi Ohakim. It is this land he has been using to scam me.

“The witnesses who are aware that I gave him money have volunteered their statement to the police,” Ms Amuchienwa said.

PREMIUM TIMES asked Ms Amuchienwa if she did not consider that Mr Ohakim’s wife could have been at home when she went to meet Mr Ohakim’s orderly.

“Is he married? Why do you people want me to get into that point? Is Ikedi Ohakim married?” she responded.
Ms Amuchienwa said Mr Ohakim gave her a “fake diamond ring” as an engagement ring.

The former governor, in his petition to the police, confirmed he bought a “very expensive diamond ring” for Ms Amuchienwa. He, however, said the ring was just a gift to her and that he bought it in response to a request from her.

I fought godfathers for Obaseki – Oshiomhole

 August 18, 2020

The former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has claimed he fought off godfathers to ensure Governor Godwin Obaseki’s emergence in Edo State.

Oshiomhole stated this on Monday, while speaking with state house correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock, Abuja.

“There is no village I go to that people do not know me.
“It is this that I used to override the godfathers in Edo State for two consecutive terms and even got the governor elected through elections,” he said.

Obaseki has previously claimed Oshiomhole had no money when he contested to become Edo state governor in 2007.

Oshiomhole, who was a former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), contested under the Action Congress (AC) and lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oserheimen Osunbor.

However, he challenged the outcome of the election in court and was declared winner a year later.

US incumbent President, Donald Trump, has declared that the only way he would lose the November presidential election was if it is rigged.

The latest polls survey show Joe Biden maintains lead over President Donald Trump ahead of the election.
According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey released Sunday, Biden was up by 9 percentage points.
He leads in 11 combined battleground states – Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Biden is ahead in three Midwest states that voted for Trump in 2016 – Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

However, the incumbent President is building a narrative of widespread voter fraud and a “silent majority” that will give him the needed backing in November.

Trump said the “Only way we’re going to lose this election is if the election is rigged.”
“The only way they’re gonna win is that way,” as quoted by UK Independent

FG Reacts To Closure Of Nigerian Traders' Shops In Ghana

Quote:The Federal government has decried the closure of Nigerian Traders shops in Ghana saying urgent steps would be taken to address the issue.

The Ghanian authorities had explained that the closure of the shops belonging to Nigerian traders was premised on their ‘failure’ to pay the Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC) registration fees.

The requirement for GIPC registration is $1 million minimum foreign equity, while registration fee is 31,500 cedis.

While reacting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama described the closure of the shops as painful.

“Nigerian Government has watched with dismay the painful videos of the forceful closure of the shops of Nigerian traders in #Ghana. Urgent steps will be taken.” he twitted.

The president of Nigerian Traders Union in Ghana, Mr Chukwuemeka Nnaji, had in an interview decried the closure of shops owned by Nigerians, saying the Ghanaian authorities demanded cash payment of $1million from them before the shops would be opened.

He said an inter-ministerial task force went round on August 10 to identify shops owned by Nigerian traders and requested for registration of business taxes, resident permit, standard control and Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC) registration.

Nnaji, added that the humiliation of Nigerians in Ghana, “is getting out of hands” just as he called for the intervention of the Nigerian government.

Reacting to the murder of her daughter, Rubio said during an interview with Telemundo: "Losing a child is like having your heart ripped out.

"I feel very sad for what they did to my daughter. How they left her is what pains me. The pain that my daughter went through there at that time is what pains me."

COVID-19: Wike Reopens Markets In Rivers State
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 08-18-2020, 09:39 AM - No Replies

Quote:Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has announced the re-opening of all markets in the State with effect from today, from 7a.m and close at 6p.m daily.

Governor Wike announced this yesterday, in a state-wide broadcast, saying that Rumukwurushe (Oil Mill) and Oginiba Slaughter Markets still remain closed.

He stated that as the markets resume business, they must operate in strict compliance with the established protocols on wearing of face masks, washing of hands and maintaining social distancing.

The governor said government lifted the ban placed on markets to increase the tempo of economic activities in the State.

He said: “Market managers must provide for hand washing and use of sanitizers for everyone at the entrance of every market, ensure wearing of face mask and maintaining social distancing.

“Any market that opens to the public and fails to comply strictly with these protocols shall be closed down. The market managers shall be prosecuted while the contravening shops shall be forfeited to the State Government without notice.

“Similarly, churches can now hold services with 50 percent of their hall capacity provided the leadership can enforce wearing of face masks and washing of hands at the entrance by worshippers.

“The ban on outdoor sports activities at the Port Harcourt Club, Golf Club and the Port Harcourt Polo Club is also lifted.

“Members of these clubs must also comply with the established COVID-19 protocols or risk another closure.

“In addition, all night clubs, cinemas, bars and in-service restaurants remain banned until further notice. The established restrictions on public burials and weddings are also still in force.

“All local government chairmen are hereby directed to ensure strict compliance with the protocols in their respective Local Government Areas”, he announced.

Governor Wike also called on security agencies to support the State Government to fight against the spread of COVID-19 by enforcing the wearing of face mask in public places and maintenance of physical distancing throughout the state.

He disclosed: “Government has increased the State’s capacity for surveillance, contact tracing, testing and treatment of positive cases in line with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), oil and gas companies that provided PCR laboratories.

“We are also considering the request for approval and certification by some private laboratories to provide sample collection and testing services,” he said.

Governor Wike stated that with the available data on COVID-19 cases, the measures put in place by the State Government were impacting positively on the efforts to control the spread of the virus.

He stated that even though the State presently stands as the fifth most impacted State in the country, there has been a steady drop on the number of new positive cases within the last seven weeks.

According to the governor, the State can move to a higher level of increased spread if residents do not change their deviant behaviours.

“The deviant behaviour of residents and visitors to the State to comply with the basic COVID-19 rules inspite of repeated appeals from me, NCDC and other well-meaning persons is quite unfortunate.

“We, therefore, appeal to all residents to exercise due sense of responsibility by complying with the established protocols on wearing of face mask, use of hand sanitizers and maintaining social distancing,” he said.

Governor Wike commended the medical personnel and volunteers who have continued to render selfless services to check the spread of the virus.

He also thanked individual and corporate donors who have supported the state and said their names would be published soon.

On the dissolution of the Taskforce on Illegal Motor Parks and Street Trading, the Governor said the decision was taken because the members took the laws into their hands.

While urging motorists and traders not to go back to their old ways, the Governor announced that a disciplined Taskforce would soon be reconstituted.
